Let me just start off by saying that I never write reviews and this would be my first. But I am so beyond obsessed with Lior that I can't imagine not raving about it to everyone!! He is the God of all Hair Gods and really, just a magical blonde whisperer. I found out about him through a friend/coworker who's hair always looked like it cost a million dollars. And being a blonde I am so particular about how I want my hair to look... expensive! And gorgeous!! And whenever I get it done by Lior, I can't tell you the amount of people stop me on the street to ask me about my color. But I write this review because I made the mistake of going to someone else and she did a horrible job with highlights and tried to fix it by lifting my base and turning my hair orange with blue/grey highlights. It was such a nightmare that I was embarrassed to go out of the house, contemplating if I should cut it all off. With my tail between my legs I called Lior. And guess what... He sat me down and gave me my options and weighed the pros and cons with me and what he would do, given my desired outcome. I loved that so much! But what I loved more is how my hair turned out!! Bombshell Fu*#$ing Perfect!! My only regret is not going to him in the first place. So if you too are struggling to find your perfect colorist... please please please do yourself a favor and just go see Lior! P.s. Ian is truly an artist, but more importantly he listens and really strives to make the client happy. Where do I begin with Lior? He is magical. His hands will work wonders on your hair. You will become addicted as I am. He will become like family. The first time I went to see Lior I was unsatisfied with my color. Although my color was not bad, as I has spend a lot of time researching a hair colorist and he did ok work but it simply was not great. I usually find that the longer you spend with one colorist, for some reason they get complacent and your hair suffers for it. So I yelped and found Lior. He instantly worked his magic and gave my color a pop than came the pièce de résistance, The Blow Dry! I came out looking and feeling like a runway model with bouncy beautiful hair. On my walk back to my office at 5th and 18th, I literally caused a raucous with the men I passed on the street. A few weeks later I needed to take an updated picture for my work (DJK Residential real estate agent) so of course I had Lior once again transform my hair into a splendid lion's mane. I could not believe when I received the picture back (my yelp pic) how much younger my awesome hair made me look. Found this salon after my hair stylist of almost a decade, Sam Alter, started working here. Amazing! The place itself is on the sixth floor of a really nice building in the flatiron district. Everyone here is great, from the receptionist to the other stylists. Sam does my cut, color (blonde partial highlights), and extensions. He always tops everything off with a great styling job, and I leave there feeling like a celebrity. He is truly an artist at what he does. Have been going to Lior for almost two years now for cuts and single process and highlights. If you're like me, you always want to switch up your color a bit, and Lior always has great ideas on how to tweak the color to be what you want. Very up to date on latest hair trends (balayage, subtle ombré, bronde color, etc) My color is very natural and Lior leaves a bit of the base color showing at the top so that as highlights grow out, roots are less noticeable. I went to Ian last night to get a balayage for the first time. I wanted a look for my upcoming wedding that was close to my natural color, but spruced up and lightened a bit for the summer. In short, I HIGHLY recommend Lior Malka. I moved to NYC a few months ago from Colorado, and a stylist in Denver gave me a list of salons near my new apartment that used the same brand of extensions I had been using. Lior Malka's website caught my eye, so I decided to give them a go. I am SO happy that I did. The salon is clean, professional, and has a nice view of the Empire State Building. What puts this salon over the top (other than Ian's undeniable talent, discussed below) is the staff. They are extremely respectful not only to the clients, but also to each other. There is no hierarchy or "I'm better than you" attitude. In this industry, I think this level of respect is rare, and even harder to find in New York City. Ian is an absolute Godsend. He is a magician with color and extensions, and I can honestly say my hair has never looked better. I came to him with zebra-striped highlights, ratchet extensions, and damaged hair. Ian has truly transformed my hair and subsequently, my confidence. He listens to what his clients want, and makes it come to life. I've been seeing him since September and even my natural hair is healthier and growing. Moving from Denver, I was a bit hesitant because of the much higher NYC prices, but he is honestly worth every penny. He's also an insanely beautiful human, so there's that, too. In terms of the other individuals, Ben is a master at creating the perfect "Victoria's Secret model" loose curl. The receptionist, Biri, always works with my difficult work schedule to get me an appointment that works for me. She also has gone out of her way to make me comfortable, one time even making a fresh pot of coffee at 6pm without the slightest complaint. And although I have never had my hair colored by Lior, his work always looks flawless from across the salon. I just finished with my first visit to Lior Malka and I am SO glad I found it on Yelp! I moved to NYC a year ago from SoCal and have been scared to let anyone touch my blonde locks as I've been seeing my hair stylist back home for almost 5 years. As my next trip home is not on the horizon and the last time I had my hair done was over Christmas, I knew I needed to bite the bullet and begin the NYC stylist search. Trust me, your search is over. I was treated by Ian Fland and he did an absolutely incredible job. I gave barely any direction as I trusted his experience and really he took the words out of my mouth: he could tell right away that I already had a light blonde hair color naturally on the root so he didn't need to use a heavy bleach and could tell I liked a more natural look. He gave me bright blonde while still maintaining a natural look and finish. He used a gloss to blend in his color with the highlights previously in my hair. As an added bonus to the blow dry he did some beachy waves as my hair is really thin and he wanted to show me ways to play with it to make it look thicker. I am definitely a repeat client and I feel I need to share him for any NYC blondes searching for a stylist and colorist. My whole salon experience was lovely. I was immediately offered water and tea and everyone was so kind. Lior introduced himself right away to my boyfriend and I. I have been going to Líor Malka for about a year now and I can't stress enough how awesome this place is. Ian Fland who is one of the hairdressers is phenomenal. I walked in with red ombré and requested to be blonde! What a request right?! But Ian is the hair master and I legit walked out with exactly what I wanted. He is honest and if he feels it won't work he will let you know but he will request something else that will leave you happy and feeling sexy! Ladies, I hate to write negative reviews but I felt compelled to warn you. After a lot of research I thought I finally found a great salon. If your looking for a salon that will give you the WORST haircut of your life then this is the place for you. I came in for a haircut with very long hair and got the absolute worst haircut of my life! I showed the stylist a picture of long beautiful layers and ended up with a VERY short shapeless cut! I just wanted a trim and some volume. I was absolutely mortified! Everyone hated it! I realized something was wrong after questioning him and realized he had studied business instead of cosmetology, but it was to late. My long locks where diminished to a disgusting short bob! Not what I asked for or wanted! He kept saying don't worry I will fix it when it's dry, but it only got much much worse! No shape and lifeless! I would NOT come back! The hair dresser, Sebastian, asked me if my hair was relaxed because "it was easy to blow dry". That's offensive! I've NEVER had someone describe my hair as unmanageable because my hair is very soft and versatile! Is it because of my tan complexion and thick hair? I felt disrespected and completely CLUELESS why he would even assume that. It never crossed my mind to ever relax my hair because I just don't need to. I gave this salon some stars because I did like how my hair came out. I went from a very dark color to a blonde ombré and I get many compliments from friends and strangers. I am incredibly picky about who does my hair and after 2 years of looking for a colorist/stylist that I love in NYC, I FINALLY found Lior! He has cut and colored my hair three times now and each time, it looks amazing. My cut is great - exactly what I want and I am ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE with the color and the highlights he's added to my dark brown hair. I came to Lior Malka salon because I was very interested in getting tape in extensions. I have fine/thin hair and I usually wear clip ins but I wanted a more permanent solution. I found this salon thru a YouTube review (I saw a women's who got tape ins from here and they looked extremely blended and beautiful so I thought "why not?" When it comes to quality, I don't skimp on anything. I love everything classy and perfect. My nails have to be beautiful, my makeup has to be on point when going out, my eyebrows need to be on fleek, and my hair.... My hair is the ultimate deal breaker for me. I was recommend by the girl on YouTube to go see a stylist who works at this salon by the name of Ian. I'm never looking back. Ian is a GOD send when it comes to extensions (AND color). He's super sweet and really funny too! He's someone you can get along with very easily. He knows his craft and is all about perfection. He blended my tape in extensions SO well and placed them perfectly all over my head making sure it was comfortable (still giving me HUGE bombshell voluminous long hair) he also did an ombré to my hair to match the extensions and the ombré was ABSOLUTELY perfect. The color was SPOT on. He is so talented. He also gave me a beautiful layered cut! I went from short hair to long ombré hair in under 2 hours. I am so happy I found Lior Malka salon and I am so happy I have Ian in my life. I've been to many hair color "experts" before and.... there's nobody like Ian. I found lior on yelp. Was on the hunt for the best blonde highlights in town. I emailed in advance a picture of what I was wanting and a current pic of my hair and showed it again in the appointment. I ended up getting a cut as well while I was there which was just straight across blunt to my shoulders. I had to get it cut again two days later elsewhere because it was a terrible fit for me and mega boring, especially with the color. The highlights I prefer to let grow out a little before fixing. They turned out a muted and musky blondish and highlights were bizarrely heavy on one side of my part and not the other so I've since had to change where I'm parting my hair to mask it. He's super friendly and told me I could call if I needed anything fixed. I guessed he sensed my disappointment that I hadn't fully processed myself. I didn't take him up on the offer. read more

Greatest salon in flatiron, actually in New York City! I've been searching for almost 2 years since I've moved to New York for a top notch stylist. I have been doing highlights since I was 15 so the maintenance and up keep is difficult. You need a stylist who can blend and brighten the highlights without having them look streaky. I called the salon and Amber the Manager was very professional and took my concerns very seriously. No early appointments were available at the time, however, she went above and beyond to try to assist/accommodate me. The same day that I called I was offered to come in to see Ben. I was hopeless when I first came in the salon thinking that not much was possible to do but figured at that point I had nothing to lose.
