We came out to see which food trucks and stalls were out, as well, and we all had good meals. The variety was impressive! The meh: our 2022 Zinfandel. It was effervescent, which was weird and not supposed to happen, I don't think? Flavor was okay but if I wanted a carbonated drink I'd have ordered a soda or champagne! I met up with a friend who lives in the area so we decided to do some wine tasting after dinner. I tasted the 2015 Big Joe Red, the 2017 Tres Viñas, the 2016 Five Estates, the 2017 Velluto, and the 2015 Tempranillo. Each wine had its own unique flavor profile and characteristics that made it stand out from the rest. 2015 Tempranillo was my top wine, rich and full-bodied with a subtle fruity flavor. Ruby red with black cherry and plum aroma, complex taste, and smooth finish. As you make your way through the winery, it's easy to get lost in the beauty of the antiques on display. From vintage furniture to old-fashioned tools and equipment, every inch of the winery showcases a piece of history. It's like taking a step back in time to a bygone era. One of the most impressive features of the winery was the attention to detail in how the antiques were presented. What I can tell you about this establishment is that , it's local in Rancho Cucamonga close to North Fontana in the Inland Empire ( Southern California) off the 15 Freeway exit Baseline Rd. Ample parking spaces , pricing are comparable to other wine companies. Great discounts if you join their Free! Membership. I do highly recommend it even if you don't drink like myself. Makes for great gifting these bottle of wines. They also offer wine tasting tours . Saw some wedding pamphlets as well . I am 100% Hispanic and if you visit the winery on ANY day you will find an incredibly racially diverse group of folks tasting wine and many are in the wine club. In fact, at least two of my regular friends there are Black females. People at wineries constantly cheat and lie, anything to get a freebee. I know that from my experience in the wine business. Go to Temecula and pay twice as much for anything and enjoy and fight the crowds. This is an iconic winery that has weathered and flourished through everything imaginable. The incredible amount of work, risk, art, planning, and teamwork that it takes would make you dizzy on day 1 if you worked there instead of that government job. It is true that in today's world that sometimes employees at any business lack situational awareness or interpersonal skills, but I find that more common at your employers than at anywhere else. If you want to be treated like queens in any business, good luck. And you will pay for inconsistent service. Perfection does not exist without high cost ($$$). Crying racism is libelous and sick. When all else fails and you are caught being wrong or being a cry baby, pull the racism card. The atmosphere here is historical, authentic, friendly, and incredibly relaxing. It is an iconic respite in an upscale urban development area. Take a class at WSET at you will educate yourself on the complexity in the wine buiness. You offended many of us, but most importantly you tread on dangerous grounds with your claims of racism. This business has been around for over 100 years. What does that say. Again, I am Hispanic, and if I am not mistaken, the owners also have not only Italian, but Hispanic ancestors. Our server was so good and personable! her name is Ginger I wish i can remember the other lady name both were excellent and welcoming, absolutely lovely service. the place is nice and clean. This was my first visit so here is my honest review and I'm giving a 5* review because of the service and good wine. -The entrance of the winery needs some work or decor, doesnt look inviting. -This winery does nto have outside seating area if you like to enjoy a glass of wine you cant seat outside there are no seats or benches to enjoy a glass of wine out doors. - You can buy crackers there but I will suggest bring your own cheese and crackers , you can order and have food deliver if you like , they have that option but this place DO NOT OFFER FOOD only wine tasting. -the tasting bar area there are no bar stools to seat you have to stand up the entire time. there is a big couch you can seat there , but I will hope this place will have bar stools for customer to seat it will be nice to be able to seat or small tables with chairs that will be nice specially if you are on a date or bringing company over for wine tasting. About 3 weeks ago we went to this winery to celebrate a friend's birthday. It was Taco Tuesday and the food was great, however, we came across a rude manager by the name of Madison. She was literally trying to kick us out at 7:30 PM ( I had called the winery earlier and I was told they close at 8:00 p.m.) We were a party of 8 and she literally stood at our table and told us to get out and she wouldn't move until we got up and left the table. The average age of the attendees were 60 + years old. We were not being loud or obnoxious, instead we were adding profit to their bottom line. Apparently Madison wanted to go home early and she pulled this stunt. This person needs to take a course in customer relations and hospitality. I left and didn't finish the tasting because I was completely ignored during the wine tasting. I saw him chit chat and pour more frequently with all the older white patrons. I am quite sure it was racism as the older white wine tender was repeatedly pouring for white patrons and people who just arrived. I watched it all happen in front of me. Do not visit if you look young and Asian or you are not old and white. It is not worth it to feel the discrimination. The grounds are not even beautiful and worth a visit. I've done tastings at wineries throughout California, Oregon, Texas, France, Hungary, and the Hunter Valley in Australia and this is a first -- well maybe one snooty winery I visited in Santa Barbara when I was in my early 20s. I recently visited JFW to sample their wines and their Taco Tuesday menu. My hour-long trek there was well worth it. JSW has been around since 1922 and on Taco Tuesdays, Chef Felipe Delapiedra caters an exciting menu of tasty culinary treats at a reasonable price. Served from 5-8 pm, the specialty item on my visit was Cochinita Pibil, a traditional slow roasted pork delicacy from the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Other taco choices included Mushrooms, Carnitas, Al Pastor, Carne Asada, and Chicken Mole. The Cochinita Pibil tacos were prepared perfectly and served with delicious red onions, rice and beans. I also tried the chicken mole nachos, and it was a mountain size amount of mouthwatering chicken, mole, cheese, and chips. Looking at other plates being served, the portions were very generous, and the food is excellent. A burrito plate being served next to me was humongous and could easily two people. The ambiance at JFW is casual, friendly and comforting. I purchased a bottle of JSW Merlot, and I really enjoyed it. There is a free parking lot surrounding the winery and a beautiful picnic area. There is an outdoor patio area and indoor dining options. The customer service was exceptional. Came out of the Friday night food truck event. Love all the options, especially the Cousins Maine Lobster. They are out from LA and never disappoint. So many types of foods, something for everyone. They have a movie on a blow up screen for families and a lot of space to picnic for the evening. Most of the vendors are really nice, but beware they close immediately at 8:30 to clean up regardless of who is there or trying to order. After having driven past this winery multiple times over the years and being intrigued by it, I finally decided to check it out over the weekend. My significant other and I decided to do a tasting so we could try the different wines. When we got there, we loved seeing the sign that masks were required... honestly, having seen on Yelp that they were being safe was what made us want to go there over going to a brewery that day. The staff was mostly wearing masks, but they would take them off at times to talk to people, which made no sense, but again, they mostly kept them on, so I won't be super harsh. Despite the signs on the counter that tastings shouldn't take place there, and us being told that we should take each tasting and grab a seat, there were still three to four groups of people doing their entire tasting rounds at the counter. As far as service, initially the man pouring our tastings was very nice and super informative, but then he completely switched. Maybe I annoyed him when he poured me the wrong wine, and I took a sip to give it a shot anyway, but then went back to pour it and informed another person that was at the counter (as he was busy with a group) that I was served the wrong one and didn't care for it. After that, he completely ignored us, which was really weird. The wines that we tried were really good. I wanted to buy some bottles, but decided against it due to being completely ignored. My significant other does not want to go back, but I like the wine enough that I might still give it another chance. Also, they're dog friendly, so that wins bonus points with me! read more

The J. Filippi Winery is not only a cherished part of the community, but it is an integral part of the soul of Rancho Cucamonga. The only reason that's the case is because the Filippi's themselves are some of the most wholesome human beings you'll ever cross paths with. I've been to the Filippi winery with a vast array of friends and family members from all walks of life and of many different shades and not a single one of them has been illtreated by any member of the staff. Walk into the winery on any given day for a tasting and you're more than likely to see more latino, asian and black wine lovers there than caucasians, but that shouldn't even matter anway! In fact, I've never seen the staff be rude or uncivil to some people they rightfully could've been tougher with. I can't speak to the motives of the extremely dubious Daisy P or Anne A, but to hurl an accusation of racism toward anybody--particularly when the self account, even if true, lacks any evidence for it--is an obscene display of either malice, a flaw in their racism detector, or simply a lack of brain cells. As for the wine, it's been a few months since I've had their offerings since I usually just pick up a few bottles when I'm in town, but they're definitely worth a try--particularly the zins. read more

This place deserves zero stars!!! My friend and I came in to see if they would honor some wine tasting cards that she received a while back when hosting a bridal shower for a friend of ours. Immediately, the event coordinator stated that she would need to get the owners approval to honor them, which was no big deal. We asked if we can begin our wine tasting and if the owner doesn't approve the cards we'd simply pay for the tasting that we were sharing (mind you, a whopping $16). After beginning our wine tasting, the event coordinator came to us and accused us of manufacturing these cards... wait, huh? She stated that these cards were never produced by their establishment and that the signature on the card was not that of the owners. Ok, so let me get this straight. Someone would take the time to falsely make cards (pay for paper, ink and time for a $16 tasting?) If you're that stressed about a $16 wine tasting card your business is clearly failing. Anyhow, we were interrogated on who gave the cards to us. I made it very clear that these cards were given to us a few years back when hosting the bridal shower at the winery. We advised the lady that we didn't appreciate being accused of such and it would be no problem paying for our tastings. A few minutes later, she came back to apologize and said that the tasting would be on the house. It didn't matter at this point as we were going to pay for the tasting anyways. We didn't want to be bothered at this point and simply wanted to pay and leave. Fast forward a few minutes later, the owner, simply put a disrespectful, racist, disgrace to human race came to us yelling and asking if we had a complaint. No one asked to speak to him, but ok. Without allowing us to get a word in, he was YELLING at us and told us to leave his f*$&*%# property. So shameful for the so called "owner" to treat customers in this fashion. He sure did put on a show for all of the other patrons that witnessed this ordeal, including children. DO NOT spend a penny here!! The property is very poorly maintained, run down and they have the WORST customer service. To the owner, you have deeper issues than running a winery/business. For a man to speak to women the way you did with so much anger and vulgarity, I pray you get some help. Ps. I'll be awaiting your defensive, demeaning, disrespectful response. First time visiting this winery this weekend with some girlfriends. It was very cute and pretty cool that it is located in Rancho close to Victoria Gardens. There are a great variety of options of bottles to purchase as well. My friends and I all did the wine tasting which was 5 pours for $16 (prices are increasing to $20 starting Tuesday). I personally stick to whites and sparkling and enjoyed the 'Morning Glory' (I think that's what it was called). My friends however really did not like the 2020 rosé or the Merlot (so skip those!). We were hungry during our visit and was hoping to get a cheese board, but they do not serve food. We had to order a pizza from the nearby pizzeria which tasted good. I was having a fine time until I went to receive my last pour. The employee gave me the last of the bottle which was NOT a tasting size! It was half! I was shocked she sent me away with that. This was our first visit to J Filippi and we enjoyed it. They offer an expansive selection of classic and premium wines to taste and a huge, circular, tasting room bar and lounge area that was very conducive to large groups or just hanging out with a glass and making new friends, which we made several. WINERY and STAFF: The operation itself was a little odd in that you had to purchase your tasting tickets as soon as you walked in, at the front counter, and then go back to the tasting area, so essentially, you were buying blind. Note; there's a $1 charge for using credit cards. When we stepped-up to the tasting counter, we felt a little pressured to order our first wine before we had much of a chance to review the tasting list. We asked about making notes of our tasting, and were looked at like, what??? The staff was mostly friendly, but not as experienced as in other wineries we've been to. One of the pourers seemed more interested in flirting with the pretty customers then talking about the wines to everyone else. WINES: Now, as I say in all of my winery reviews, wines are very subjective to the individual drinker. That being said, my wife and I shared 10 tastings of the standard wines and 5 tastings of the Reserve wines. We didn't really care for most of the red wines, which is primarily what we drink. The one exception was the Old Vine Zinfandel on the Reserve list. We did, however, really enjoy their dessert wines (ports and sherries). In fact, we purchased 4 bottles to take home (Marsala Sherry, Crème de la Crème, Alicante Bouschet Port, and Tears of Elisa Dulce Port). SUMMARY: It was a fun afternoon, after we got the gist of how they work, however I don't think we'll be back, except maybe just to purchase dessert wines. You should check it out for yourself to see how you like their wines. Remember, your tastes and mine may be complete opposite and you may love everything they're pouring...try it. read more

We came for a tour and Al did not disappoint! He was very knowledgeable about the history of the area as it pertains to wine and vineyards. The tour was very scenic and we got to see the old relics of the "containers" that stored wine. Al was nice enough to take photos for us (we made sure to leave a good tip for him). I love this place! I got a $50 gift card and stopped in to use it. A tasting is $10 for five choices and the bottles are reasonably priced. The location is really cute. They have a huge round wine tasting bar and a nice lounge area if you just want to sit and enjoy a full glass or even a bottle. The service is amazing. They are super friendly and helpful!! This is one of the few wineries I've been to where they will actually give you a tasting before your tasting!! I was torn between a few things so they gave me just a sip of each so I could decide which one I wanted. That way you don't waste your tasting on things you don't like! Here's my opinions (I'm typically a Cabernet Sauvignon drinker but they didn't have any): -Merlot '15 was smooth and easy to drink. -Sangiovese '15 was fruity and smooth with a bit of a dry finish. I liked that it had more flavor then the Merlot. -Old Vine Zinfandel was really good with a slight dry finish. I liked it. -Ruby Ruby Port was a bit sweeter then I like my ruby, but still good. - Petite Syrah Port was also sweet but lighter. My hubby loved this one. -Big Joe Red was a little too dry for my taste but not bad. -Mourvèdre was easy drinking but too light. Kinda tasteless. A pass for me. -Cabernet Franc has a very unusual smell of bell peppers or chili peppers. The flavors had a lot going on, too much for me to process. I was told it's usually a love-hate type of wine. Turns out I hate it! They have cheese and crackers you can buy but they don't serve food. However, while we were there today they had a taco truck out back. They also told me that every Tuesday the taco truck is there and it's really good. Now I'll have to come back and try some tacos and more wine! read more

If you're looking to relax and unwind, this may not be the place for you. But let's start with saying the wine is quite nice and there's a good selection. The cabernet and ports are favorites. The employees are all very kind and we've even made new friends here too. We were excited when we decided to finally join after a beginning to an end of a pandemic........it could be a great place for all BUT........ We come from the idea that good wine should be enjoyed in a relaxing yet fun environment. Paired with food even better (thank you for taco Tuesday). We love to bring friends and introduce them to the wines and history. If you're ok with an excessively barking dogs and people that think you should listen to their music, this may work out for you. Otherwise take your wine to go. Our enjoyment was interupted by a group who brought in a speaker and blasted it so loud no matter where you sat you'd hear it. Another person across the way strums his guitar loudly almost coming off as a rebuttal? We we're surprised that management didn't say something. The week before two large dogs kept barking at everything, we weren't the first to say something. We love dogs, we love people, we also believe in etiquette. The entertainment should be coordinated by the winery, whether piped in music or live, but not decided by a few individuals creating a chaotic mess. Be respectful, be kind, be fair to all. I felt like she should have just asked me to wait for that guy to come back -_- There were two chocolates: - Red Velvet - Chocolate Truffle w an aftertaste of jalapeno I was really excited and for that price I thought it would be AMAZING... .... Like beyond better than Sees or Godiva. Well, I'll admit I was WRONG... It was overly sweet and it totally killed my palette for the wine. We ate it with the recommended pairing too -_- so yeah... DISAPPOINTED... fail to the day I don't like chocolate... But in this case I didn't even care to finish it. We togo-ed it to give to the guys. And the part that ticked me off the MOST... would definitely be when there was an ANT on our plate that the chocolates were on not too long ago O_O' I alerted that girl and she looked annoyed at me. She took it away with no "ohh, I'm sorry" or anything.... .... .... Overall I am completely disappointed in Yelp and I am sure that I do not intend to come back here at all.
