As a stay-at-home mom always looking for local family-friendly activities and events, this was such a great experience for us. We came here for the Disney Encanto event, and it was a huge hit with my 3-year-old. I was honestly so impressed that he stayed engaged for the entire event, which ran from 3:00 to 5:30. The talent was incredible, and the whole experience felt very special while still being kid-friendly. The staff was friendly, and I also appreciated that the bathrooms were clean, which always matters when you're out with little ones. A couple things to note: the food options were very limited. They had mostly snack foods like chips, popcorn, and candy, along with a small selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. I do wish they had more substantial options like hot food or even simple sandwiches, especially for families attending longer events. For seating, we sat in Left Orchestra, Row G. For us, those seats felt a little too close. It felt like we were right under the players, and we couldn't fully see the whole orchestra the way I would have liked. If I went again, I would definitely choose center seats farther back or possibly even balcony seats for a better overall view. Parking is something to keep in mind. We paid $15 to park in the garage across the street for the event, but there also seemed to be street parking available around the hall. Last night I had the opportunity to attend a GospelFest at the Joseph Meyerhoff arena. The acoustics were great, as we were able to enjoy the concert performed by the combined HBCU choirs in Baltimore, Bowie & DC, various gospel artists and the BSO. There was an abundance of ushers to direct us to our seats and to the restrooms. We did not have any refreshments, however, during the intermission, a couple seated in front was able to get drinks and return rather promptly so I concluded that the concession booths and lines were being handled efficiently since this a sold out event. This is such a beautiful space inside. Not gonna lie, from the outside, it sort of reminded me of the DMV! Not the most attractive building but the inside performance space is incredible and the acoustics were great. We came for the Halloween performance with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. My partner and kids fell fast asleep but I loved it. We ended up leaving at intermission since they were totally lulled to sleep. I think the Halloween concert was a little too high brow for my kids (and apparently my partner!). But I'm excited to come back for the movie screenings with the orchestra. There are multiple bars on site, where they give heavy pours on the drinks. I got my partner the sparkling wine and he could only finish a quarter of his drink. Went here on a Double Date for the Distant Worlds; Music from final Fantasy, with vision issues I couldn't see the screen so I had to use my phone!. I didn't understand anything the guys were talking about because I'm not a gamer in this Era!. The Happ was absolutely beautiful, the layout was put together very well, comfortable seats like your knees weren't up in someone's back!. The cushioning was comfortable, The staff from start to finish was Very helpful since I had my cane!. A lady that worked there even came to check on me to make sure I didn't have to use the bathroom so she could guide me. On the ceiling it reminded me of bubbles! We went to see Cirque Nutcracket over the holidays and it was epic! Sold out show! So it was packed! Plenty of space around the bars though to get your drinks before heading in to the show. The main problem was the restroom. It was way way too small for the theatre and the line was incredible for the women's room. Definitely needs expanded. I'm so glad we made the trip to baltimore to see this unique show. read more

Ive been to the BSO for a few themed shows and have always had such a great time! Onsite parking can always be a bit of a mess so I try to park at a lot thats about a block away or the street if I can find something easy enough. Its always so easy getting checked in and staff is everywhere to help with directions to seats which is nice. The Symphony has always put on a great show and the movie series is even better than I expected. I cant wait to go back for another show, you have to get in line early for drinks though because once you get close to show time the lines get long! read more

A week or two ago, I attended the first of six Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) concerts that I will attend in the 2022-2023 season! I went with a friend for a truly special concert - Bernstein's Kaddish Symphony. The concert was wonderful, and the venue was great. It's walkable to several restaurants and bars. There are parking lots nearby too, but we had parked closer to dinner. Convenient overall! The BSO has a full season of classical music, jazz and pop concerts, and fusion events (in December, we're going to watch The Godfather on a big screen while the BSO plays the score live!!!). Unsure how I missed reviewing, as we are regulars for BSO events-movie music magic, revolution symphonic experiences, holiday pops!, kid's sprinkle series- we try to attend as much as possible. We usually order tickets & add on the Symphonic Garage parking right across the street ($12 for the night). There are cheaper garages in the area & limited street parking availability, but we enjoy the ease of the easy access, walkability. The building is so well designed (an oval shape with great sound acoustic reverberation), any seat makes for a great show- we typically order the lower cost, upper balcony seats, and have never had a limited view. The seats are very comfortable & they have the heat on! None of that movie theater bring a blanket woe. Always a grand time, with reasonable ticket prices, and ample variety of shows. read more

I came here for the first time with my bf having impulsively bought tickets a month ago. I figured my seats wouldn't be that great because they weren't on the first level. Turns out this building is so well designed that any seat in the house makes for a great show! It was the 40th anniversary of this building's creation, so they had the performance as well as videos about how the building was created AND there were 2 free drinks and a snack/dessert area after the show! I was very impressed and felt like that made the price of my tickets very reasonable. The cherry on top was seeing Ledisi perform. What a great time! read more

My husband and I came here on a Friday night to see Ron White, a comedian. It was a smaller venue that holds about 2,400. They have a lounge area on the upper level and some round tables on the lower level. For the opening act, we couldn't hear very well. My husband said it would have been better if they could turn the volume of the speakers up. Unfortunately our experience was diminished due to a group of older, obnoxious men sitting behind us who were inconsiderate. One fella kept kicking the back of our seats and talking very loudly. That pretty much ruined my whole experience. We actually left before the show ended. On our way out, an employee asked about the show and I shared my bad experience. She said next time I could ask to be moved to different seats. Wished I had known this. read more

We've been here a few times. The interior is very nice. My gripe and word of advice to the ladies out there is that the number of bathrooms is incredibly disproportionate to the number of patrons this place can seat. For example, there are probably a mere four stalls in the restroom near the orchestra right and both times I was here, one toilet was out of order. The line was unbelievable during intermission. Whoever designed this place really underestimated how many bathrooms are needed. read more

I came here recently to see the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's performance of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Their performance was amazing! The conductor was very nice and told everyone before the show that we were allowed to have our phones out during the scene when Dumbledore passes away, which made for a memorable moment. They had plenty of food and drinks available. Parking was right across the street, which made it easy to get there and leave. I would love to come again for any future performances. read more

We came for a Backstage Tour of the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall sponsored by Doors Open Baltimore. We started with a brief history in the lobby. The Meyerhoff opened in 1982 with a seating capacity of 2,443. It is, of course, the home of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. It is named for Joseph Meyerhoff, a Ukrainian-Jewish, Baltimore businessman, philanthropist, and arts patron who served as president of the Baltimore Symphony. We were pleased to learn that the oval shaped structure was designed by an Italian, Pietro Belluschi, along with Jung/Brannen Associates. The hall was designed to fit into the footprint of the surrounding streets. It is oval or egg shaped. Rebecca Cain, Senior Director of Operations, then led us to see the backstage; explaining all the way what we were seeing. On either side of the stage are rooms used by the musicians before, during and after their performances. You move from one room to another along a curved corridor to the other side. We were able to see the Conductor's Room and then go on stage. It is really interesting to look at the auditorium from the stage. She explained all the workings of the stage and how they can make it larger or smaller depending on their needs and how pianos are raised and lowered. From here, you really get a clear understanding that this is not a square building, but a building with lots of curves that only serve to enhance the superior sound in the hall. We then were taken thru the Zamoiski Room, so called Green Room (that is really not green) and back out to the lobby. The tour was very nice, but we were disappointed. Bottom Line: A lovely place in Baltimore to listen to music. The Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall is home to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra but there are plenty of other musical acts to see, and better yet, hear here. Although the hall, built in the early 1980s and renovated in 2001, looks a little dated, it is a very nice venue as its clean, well maintained and has a friendly staff. Perhaps most importantly, this curvy building has great acoustics. The ceiling has round disks on it that look like Tylenol but actually help reflect the sound from the stage. Attending a concert at the Meyerhoff is convenient as there are two parking garages nearby that make the walk to the hall less than a block. It costs $12 to park. Of course after the show there will be a long line of cars to get out of the garage so you can skip the line and head to Ryleigh's Oyster right in front of the Hall to grab a late night bite or night cap. The parking garage stays open for several hours after nighttime shows. In advance of shows and during intermissions, drinks may be purchased in the lobby and you can even take them into the auditorium with you. read more

Be still, my music lovin' heart. There is no better venue to go see the symphony (it's intended purpose) or one of your favorite bands blow the roof off the place. I have been to about 15 concerts in my lifetime and I've never had a more intimate, comfortable experience. I guess you could say I'm a fan! I drove up from Richmond to see Paramore last night and it. was. AMAZING. I really can't believe that this venue opened in 1982 because it looks like it opened yesterday. It's super clean, spacious, and organized. Having my ticket scanned was a breeze. The concert started at 7, but I got there at about 7:30 (thank God for opening acts!). I was glad to hear that the opening act was still going strong, so I took advantage of that and looked around for a bit before ordering a drank to take back to my seat. When you first walk in, the "atrium" area is impressive! There are bars and plenty of tables and chairs to sit and enjoy a drink before the show. The bathrooms were kind of away from everything (which I liked!), but they were clean and served their purpose. After a while I figured I had spent enough time dillydallying and I needed to make my way to my seat. I was immediately helped and shown to my seat (row M on the right side- perfect view!). I had some time to sit back and relax before they came on. I'm glad I did because it was the perfect opportunity to admire the view inside the Hall (GORGEOUS) and comment on the fancy shmancy comfortable seats. I happened to be going to this concert alone (because if you want to do something, then doggone it you do it whether someone is willing to do it with you or not!) but the cool thing was that the girl beside me as well as the guy in front of me and one other girl on my row were all there rockin' out solo. We all had a fantastic time with our drinks and letting loose to the sounds of a crazy talented band. You know what, this place was the definition of a well oiled machine. I am grateful that I've been able to see a show here and I am absolutely going back. read more

Just wonderful! There is such a great variety of events offered at the Meyerhoff. I've seen everything from movies to comedy shows to concerts of course, and I get quite the show here every time. The acoustics are fantastic and it does truly seem that there isn't a bad seat in the house. Tonight, I was in the very last row of the Center Terrace and I could hear every note clear as day. Plus it was still a great view of the stage! I highly recommend it for any shows where visuals aren't as important. For the price, it's a steal, although please keep in mind it's pretty high up, so if heights make you nervous, beware! Some other pros: there's a parking garage close by (but not the cheapest), plenty of bars around the hall atrium, ushers to help navigate you to your seat. Cons: no bathrooms on top levels (I had to go down 2-3 flights of stairs), can be difficult to navigate around levels if no ushers around, seats don't have much legroom (I opted for aisle seats so my boyfriend could be comfortable -he still had to manspread). read more

We attended Amy Schumer last night- while she was great, the venue was horrible. LONG security lines- emails were sent out about cell phones and vegan tacos (not there), but not about arriving early due to security. The "ushers" had no idea where people were to be seated)they carried seating charts), and frequently seated folks incorrectly. Half way thru Amy Schumer's act, no less than 3 ushers disrupted our vision in order to move people incorrectly seated by the ushers! This is must visit place!!! Very beautiful and they offer discounts for students with the valid id! If you never been exposed to classic music this is your place! Tips: *Dress accordingly, business casual always nice! And you won't feel out of plate ;) *come at least 20 mins ahead. The doors close sharp at indicated time! You can be late but you will have to wait to get in not during someone performing *the parking on the street is free after 6pm! *if you get hungry after the show there is plenty of spots on Charles street to eat. Classical music isn't really my jam (I'm more of a sport game/karaoke/bar crawl kinda gal) but it was nice stepping out of my comfort zone when I had tickets to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at the Meyerhof. They claimed the cartoon wasn't arriving until Tuesday, so had a man narrate what the cartoon was about. In the age of internet and FedEx, I don't understand how this could happen. I was here for the Jerry Seinfeld stand up comedy show. It was Awesome! The symphony seating was very comfortable and l love the set up. We were able to purchase adult bevetages before the show which was very refreshing. They do allow you to take it to your seat if you like. There was a warmup comedian to start us off before Jerry and he was very funny as well. If you're familiar with the Jerry' Seinfeld series then you already know that his comedy is pretty much about things that happen in life. Let him tell it and it's a whole new hilarious story. I really enjoyed this performance and so glad that Jerry decided to come to the Baltimore area. Oh btw they have a parking garage about 1 1/2 blocks away for $12.00 on the day of events . I've been two the Meyerhoff two or three times. I've sat in on both lower level seats in the orchestra and up in the terrace seats. THE GOOD.... -clean inside -ushers will be helpful and point point you in the right direction -drinks and such aren't crazy expensive like other events -events typically start and end on time -parking garage is relatively close to venue THE BAD... -seats are terribly uncomfortable -minimal leg space -$12 for parking is ridiculous...if you buy the parking pass in advance there should be some sort of discount -sound could be better Overall I'm not a big fan of the Meyerhoff. It's not the most comfortable venue to see a concert. If they need more modern seats with leg space. read more

What a beautiful piece of Baltimore in a city that's struggling otherwise. This a jewel of Charm City, bringing culture and art to the masses. You wouldn't think such a place exists, given the neighborhoods you have to drive through to get there, but once you head out of the parking garage and into it you feel a different air. I'll admit, like convention halls, it's hard to judge a concert center by attending a show. You're really reviewing the show rather than the hall itself. Still, you can note the behavior of the staff, the cleanliness of the place, and the comfort of your experience. I say all of these were top-notch and it made for a great experience. The only warning, and this may be show-specific, is the concessions. They overcharge you here like you wouldn't believe. We're talking worse than movie theaters or sports stadiums, with $10 for an 8 oz mixed drink in a plastic cup (with ice) or $12 for a half a sandwich wrap. Still, you came here for the show, not the concessions, so either pony up the dish or eat before (or after). read more

I've been attending concerts st the Meyerhoff for almost 30 years, and last night was the worst experience I've had at any venue. My seat: Terrace Left, Box B, Row D, Seat 7, could have doubled as a medieval torture chamber. There was less than 8 inches of space between the end of my seat and the back of the seat in front of me. This review is not just for the venue, but for the event that was hosted there this past weekend. My parents, fiancée and I attended the 4 Tops and Temptations concert as a Mother's Day gift. The symphony hall is beautifully decorated and located in a great part of the city. Everyone says if you attend a symphony concert its truly wonderful. The acts that were there this past weekend were more than disappointing to say the least. It was clear the sound was completely off! Way too loud! The demographic of the crowd was 50 yrs old +. I am only 30 and I even felt like my ear drums would explode. The music overpowered the singers, when they sang it sounded like they were screaming over one another and competing not only with their band mates, but the band as well. The 4 Top and Temptations were super cheesy in the worst way possible. I guess now they are considered Tribute Groups because there is only one original member in the group. My parents were so let down, it was like both groups were trying to be "too cool, and modern". They weren't dancing in sync, were belting notes that were not anything close to the original, and changed up arrangements so classic songs like "My Girl" were barely recognizable. We left half way through the second act (4 Tops) because we couldn't stand to listen any longer. When we were walking out streams of people were leaving as well! I felt bad for the performers, but we seriously couldn't be in there a minute longer. The tickets were moderately expensive too for 4 people. **Come to find out- the Temptations and the 4 Tops both chose their own sound guys over the Meyerhoff's sound. This proved to be a fatal mistake for the groups and the venue. I would probably go to the Meyerhoff again for a ballet or symphony performance. I would never see a "band" there, and I will probably never see the Temptations or 4 Tops concert in my lifetime again. Sorry guys! read more

Really enjoyed the Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets movie with live music. This was my first time to Meyerhoff. I have an issue with my knees and can't bend them fully. Usually not a problem but the upper Terrace seats were so close that I couldn't seat comfortably. I'm only 5'2" so I should have been ok but wasn't. At intermission my sister talked with some ushers and they arranged a seat change in wheelchair. This worked out awesome. Thank you ladies. I wish I had gotten their names. Now know what seats I need to buy so I will definitely be back. Great staff. read more

You may purchase tickets, only to find out last minute that they also play in North Bethesda, Maryland at the Music Center. Something that is not even remotely obvious on their website. We went with some friends to the Meyerhoff to watch the BSO perform Harry Potter with the movie playing in the background. We had an excellent time and noted that it appeared as though there wasn't a bad seat available in the theater. The theater appeared to be designed so that each upper section was separated into what I can only describe as floating pods. Each row of seats was elevated sufficiently so that every seat had an unobstructed view of the stage (although I cannot speak for the lower level seats because I could not see them). The theater itself was so artfully designed that it added to the experience of how great the BSO was in their performance. The only negative that I had for the day was that the bartender was extremely slow, people attempted to line up at intermission for refreshments but were unable to get them, I'd estimate about 5-7 people were serviced by this particular bartender due to his slow speed. Improve the rate of service and this place it 5 stars! Or if you do not care about food/drinks, then this place is definitely 5 stars! I would go again for sure. read more
