Many people told me that Lasik would be Life Changing and they are correct. I cannot begin to describe how much this surgery has changed my life for the better. After visiting several Drs over many years at a -7.5 perscription, Dr. Rudick gave me the right information and peace of mind to feel confident making the decision. I elected for PRK (longer recovery time but lower risk of dry eyes and long term side effects, plus I have an active lifestyle that includes martial arts). The recovery time is indeed longer (Day 4 was uncomfortable post bandaid contact removal and it took a full 4 weeks before my vision got back to 100%. Haven't looked back since - it's been amazing. I wore ortho-K contact lenses for over a decade and didn't know if I would be eligible for laser eye correction or what the process would be like. Absolutely love Dr. Rudick and the entire staff at Associate Ophthalmologists. I've been going to Dr. Rudick for over a decade ever since I badly scratched my cornea and another, not so great doctor and practice were of little help. Most recently I was asking Dr. Rudick about what seemed to be allergy related or chronic dry eye and he suggested trying collagen punctal (tear duct) plugs. He has them himself, and told me that they prevent the lower duct from draining which helps with Dry-Eye. They've made all the difference in the world these past 3 months! I first had them implanted back in August right as Ragweed season was starting up. Usually August into September is brutal for my poor eyes. This year? Not a single instance of dry or inflamed eyes. The plugs helped keep my eyes from drying out and allowed me to just about forget about ragweed season for a change. The collagen kind dissolve in about 3 months and need to be replaced, and I'm willing to deal with 30 seconds of discomfort every quarter for the benefits I get. read more

I concur with every negative review on this site. First appointment I had to wait TWO HOURS due to some major issue at the office. No apologies offered, desk staff kept telling me to 'calm down' when i said i had a work meeting i was going to be late for. Doctor's bedside manner was terrible. 'Make it quick because I've got a waiting room full of people' is how he greeted me. It went downhill from there. Saw the doctor for a contact allergy-type situation that he misdiagnosed. He prescribed eyedrops which ended up causing a serious reaction that later had to be dealt with via heavy steroids and minor surgery--at another, more competent practice. No response from the practice when I contacted them about these issues. Despite being in-network for my assurance I also then received a $189.00 bill for various strange procedures that had not even been performed during my visit. Clearly a scam. Dr. Rudick and his staffs is amazing . I had a real bad experience with another eye doctor - Wilson Ko and his entire staffs is a scram. Dr. Rudick took care of my cyst on my eyelid in 5 mins while Dr. Wilson Ko suggested you try injection but I have to wait 2 weeks for my insurance approval before they will even give me an injection , and usually is around 2 injections is not working , they will remove it . This Dr. Wilson Ko explained to me how the whole procedure takes 20mins etc etc ... like a big deal while Dr. Rudick just make it sounds so simple and he did it in 5 mins. I couldn't recommend Dr. Rudick more highly if you are considering laser eye surgery. I was referred to him by my eye doctor when I began considering Lasik/PRK, and am so happy with the experience I had. Dr. Rudick is exceptionally careful, thorough, and kind. He has a great track record wit both Lasik and PRK. He talked me through the pros and cons of Lasik versus PRK in length, and eventually I opted to do PRK (despite being a candidate for Lasik). The procedure itself was absolutely seamless, and Dr. Rudick did an excellent job talking me through every step of the process so that I was never worried or uncomfortable. I've been with Dr. Rudick for half a decade and I left my last PCP to find another PCP that would want to write me a referral to see Dr. Rudick (I had problem oddly with my previous PCP). It's difficult to find a PCP that I can trust in the first place that fits my location and travel constraints. Dr. Rudick saved my left eye and he was onto my right eye although it healed itself in a few weeks before we reached the point of needing a procedure. There's no guarantee, but his office has substantially more equipment to diagnose my problem than other ophthamologists I've seen. That alone probably says something about his practice. So he said something to me that touched me enough to write a review that I would do the same for others. My two cents is that if he's successful in remediating your problem, you need to go back religiously to check your eyes even though you see fine. Don't take your eye sight for granted because I didn't. read more

Lasik changed my life. Honestly. I'm a photo editor by profession and my eye care is super critical to me. I asked an ophthalmologist acquaintance (his practice is too far away for me to visit) who I should see in New York and his immediate, unequivocal response was: Dr. Rudick. After Lasik surgery, I went from wearing 3-way progressives to nothing but OTC peepers. I work at my computer without glasses! Mostly though, I can see everything. It's amazing! I got lasik done by Dr Rudick and the experience was excellent from start to finish. For those hesitating to get it done, would just make a consultation and have all your questions answered. Kept me waiting 45 minutes to see anyone, despite having an 11:15am appointment, and were completely nonchalant about that as if that's not worth noting or apologizing for in the least. After appointment when I asked for a copy of my records, they said I'll receive an email the next day to access a "portal." No email came. I called them a week later and they had no explanation, and couldn't resend the email. Had to send it via paper, after getting me to send a paper medical release form to them. Dr. Rudick is my eye doctor and performed lasik surgery on me recently. As of writing, there are three reviews for him, all bad, saying they had to wait a while to see the doctor. In my experience, I didn't have to wait any longer than I would at another doctor's office. Someone mentioned that Carmen is rude -- that's complete baloney. She was really nice to me, and was more than willing to walk me through the lasik procedure. As for the surgery, I had -3.5 in both eyes before lasik. I don't know what that computes to in 20/whatever, but after the surgery I now have 20/15 vision. I can see better than I've ever seen before in my life, my eyes are healing very quickly, and Dr. Rudick was very gentle through the entire procedure. He has a nice bedside manner, he does top quality work, and his office has never made me wait an exorbitant amount of time or been rude to me. Who knows, maybe they turned the ship around between now and the last review posted here. At any rate, I'm really very grateful for my brand new eyes and I give a lot of credit to Dr. Rudick's skill as a doctor and surgeon. read more

Dr. Rudick was amazing throughout my entire Lasik procedure! He's a pro and answered any questions I had going into and following the procedure. The surgery was super quick (I was in and out in less than 30 mins) and the recovery was surprisingly minimal. The staff was very positive and helpful throughout the pre-op and post-op care, making me feel very comfortable. I have been going to Dr. Rudick for just about a year and I am not being overly dramatic when I say he changed my life. I have excessively dry eyes and Dr. Rudick recommended getting plugs inserted quarterly to produce natural tears. It is nothing short of amazing! My eyes feel well lubricated at all times. I can wear make-up without fear of it running down my face. In addition to all of that, Dr. Rudick and the entire staff at his office are very pleasant and I never have to wait for more than a couple of minutes. I cannot more highly recommend. read more

I got my appointment pretty quick. Thats the only postive thing I can say about this doctor. Maybe because I paid cash. When I got there, I waited for about 40 mins to get in. Dr Joseph Rudick examined my eyes but didn't seem to find out what's going on. When I asked him questions, he didn't give me satisfactory answer and seem reluctant to answer any more questions. Look impatient and didn't listen enough. He didn't treat my problem and in fact referred me to another doctor. When I asked him to prescribe for my contact lens, he asked me if I brought the contact lens boxes. Huh ? I thought he should know . I never have to do that with other doctor. Poor diagnose and don't listen to the patient. He has a lot of patients but does not mean he could just be in a hurry and overlook the patient's problem. read more

Doctor lied about cost of an in-office surgery, then performed that surgery poorly. I was left holding a bloody rag to my eye while I went to the front counter to pay my co-pay. Inexpertly performed surgery resulted in infection that had to be dealt with later. Specialist later was appalled that excision had been performed in the first place, since this is mandated in only 5% of very serious cases. Received unexpected bill in the range of $300+ for this surgery and other random things. Terrible doctor, quasi-criminal billing practices. read more

Long wait time, unbelievably rude office staff (Carmen). I thought the visit with the doctor was OK but now a month later, my purse containing my two prescription eyedrops was stolen and when I called the office to replace them, they said they never prescribed me anything, but wouldn't open my record to double check because it was "put away". It was only a month ago! Scary that a doctor's office would not have record of two prescriptions that my pharmacy had filled for me. read more

The staff were pleasant. Office is clean and well-equipped. Lots of technical equipment. Overall, my office visit took 1.5 hours during which time, I saw Dr. Rudick for about 5 minutes, after waiting endlessly in an exam room. Almost everything is done by a series of different assistants. Dr. Rudick scurries around from room to room, anxious to get on to the next patient. He seemed annoyed when I asked a few, quick questions and he was very condescending! I will never go back to see Dr. Rudick. read more

Since I have worn thick heavy glasses ever since high school, I was getting very tired of having them covering my face. Recently I have started taking Salsa dance lessons and the glasses were really getting in the way. M y friends were saying to try contact lenses. I had attempted them a couple of times, but I did not really get the hang of it. My vision with the contacts wasn't that great either compared to glasses so I didn't feel that it was worth all the trouble. I have heard of Lasik, but I was waiting until it was no longer in the experiental phase. Now the procedure has been around for awhile (like me), and I thought this would be the time to find out if it would be an option for me. I started looking for a good doctor, and actually went to one big office for a consultation. I understand that when you call and say you are interested in Lasik, they do treat you nicely because you are a "paying customer" but that VIP glossy treatment didn't do it for me, I could get that at a beauty salon. These were my eyes, and I wanted a doctor that I could feel had the most experience in this procedure and wasn't trying to sell me something that I wasn't sure I wanted. This is why I am recommmending Dr. Rudick. He is very confident and skillful, and has a calm reassuring demeanor. I had my Lasik surgery in July and now my vision is 20/20. It is really exciting, and I was just waiting until I was really sure that it worked before writing this review. It took me awhile to realize that I am not wearing glasses anymore. This has changed my life. The office is in Lower Manhattan, it is spacious and I felt comfortable there and that I wasn't being rushed to make up my mind. Dr. Rudick explained that the tests would determine if I would be a good candidate for Lasik, and they were all performed right there at the same time as my consultation. Dr. Rudick saw me without any delay and he is very down to earth, explaining everything to me without talking down to me. He is personable and and his staff is very helpful. His Lasik coordinator had the procedure herself with Dr. Rudick, and that says alot. read more

I went to the appointment today. Waited 45 minutes. The checkup lasted less than 3 minutes. The doctor didn't even talk to me about the results just gave my prescription to the assistant for check out process. I felt extremely rushed. I will never recommend this Ophthalmologist to anyone instead I will tell everyone not to go here. First I had an over an hour wait. I went in for an annual eye checkup, which is covered by my insurance. The front desk called my insurance to check I was covered and told me that you're only covered for an annual eye check. Then she told me they would charge me a visitation fee, which not every office charges but they do. I told them I can just go to another ophthalmologist, who will not charge me the extra visitation fee that my insurance doesn't cover. She insisted I see the doctor and she would "waive" the fee since I'm a new patient. At this point she knew I came only for an annual eye checkup and I also told Dr. Rudick I was here only for an annual eye checkup. A couple days later I get sent a $300 bill for an annual eye checkup. I call my insurance and they tell me I did not get an annual eye checkup, which I specifically asked for. They gave me services, which I never asked for! This office is all about making money. They do not care about the patients instead are out to make money and bill patients for services never asked for. I will fight this bill because it is unethical to be misleading patients and rendering services they never asked for and bill them for it. I will make sure I let people know this office is not about one-on-one patient relationship rather a money business. Dr. Rudick was in a rush to perform a checkup and never had time to ask me about my history or any problems I was having. He was too busy trying to check all of his 10 patients scheduled at once.I know one of the other friends also had the same experience with them. Contrary to the other reviewer, I found Dr. Rudick to be an excellent ophthalmologist. He reviewed my information, asked very relevant questions and had a very friendly manner. I was there to have a comprehensive eye exam and that is what I got. I was sent to him on a referral by another specialist. Look, he does have a very busy practice, so you have to expect that he will move through the exam efficiently. I went well informed about my issues and he answered all of my questions. I have had a lot of experience with doctors and I no doubt that he is very competent. read more

Dr. Albert Rudick is a fantastic ophthalmologist. He is relatively easy to schedule an appointment and is on time. Staff was very patient friendly checking in and at checking out. Very nice office lots of space and also has a Optical Shop to look at glasses. Dr. Rudick is extremely comprehensive and knowledgeable which inspires confidence in his abilities as an ophthalmologist. When I went to see Dr. Rudick for the first time a few weeks ago everything went smoothly for the most part. Today, I was scheduled for a followup appointment and the story was completely different. Upon arrival, the woman at the reception desk, Kathy, informed me that the doctor could not see me because my insurer required me to have a separate referral for this visit from my primary care provider. Knowing how particular my insurance is about referrals, I had specifically asked at the end of my previous visit if I had to make any phone calls before my followup, and I had been assured they would take care of everything. When I told Kathy about that, her reply was that she did not know why I was told that and that it was my responsibility to contact my insurance carrier to get a referral when it was needed. When I asked what I was supposed to do now about the issue, she just looked at me like it was not her problem. She also told me that the note in my chart said someone had tried to contact me and was not able to reach me. This was rather surprising to me. They have my phone number, address, and probably even e-mail on file and I definitely had not heard from them. In fact, they hadn't even had the courtesy to send me an appointment reminder. At that point, Kathy became quite rude and she was basically arguing with me. The proverbial cherry on the cake came when I asked to have a copy of my record and was told that I would have to come back for it because Dr. Rudick had to sign off on it and he was currently with a patient (mind you that this was already the time slot for which my appointment was scheduled). All in all, one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. I do not recommend this practice and I will not be returning there (except to retrieve my record). read more
