Last year was incredibly difficult for my husband and I for so many reasons. Some of those difficult things are coming to an end so I wanted to treat myself. I needed to "scrub" off the past couple of years so I decided to try The Ultimate Salt Glow at Joseph's, advertised as follows "Sea salts gently massaged into the skin decongest and get rid of all dead surfaces. The treatment includes an oil rub that re-hydrates the skin. Plus all the benefits of a 60 minute massage." My appointment was with Katie and she was absolutely wonderful. She walked me through the whole process so I knew what would be happening at all times. First I got to smell scented oils to chose for my massage. Then she started with the salt scrub. I was slightly concerned it would be scratchy but she was very gentle and the salt was very fine. It felt like I was having sugar (but not sticky) rubbed all over me, removing all of the dead skin and toxins of the last year of my life. After doing my whole body (minus all the right areas) Katie left the room, I hopped in the shower conveniently located in the same room and rinsed off. My skin felt like pure silk (still does 2 days later) Then l put on the provided robe and made my way out into the spa lobby where I waited just a minute or two (Katie was so quick) while she changed the sheets for my massage. She then treated me to a relaxing massage with oil to hydrate my skin. It was everything I wanted and more! Katie was so easy to talk to (I'm a chatty one during massages), she was so awesome I decided to book a facial with her. The service was $130 and worth every penny! They also offer the scrub without the massage at a lower rate. Plan to wait if you are interested in this service, when I called to book my appointment weekends we're booked solid, but they are open late on Tuesday & Thursday's. Highly recommended! I've had one too many bad pedicure experiences so I will happily pay a bit more and travel a bit farther to get my nails done at Joseph's from now on. Cleanliness is one of my main concerns, and this place is spectacularly clean. The foot spas were thoroughly cleaned before and after each service. The biggest detail was the individualized, single use kits of pedicure tools. Salons that use the same buffs and nail files on multiple customers will never touch my toes. The entire booking experience was so easy. I made a last minute appointment request on a Monday (when the salon was closed) so I didn't expect to hear back until Tuesday. Someone replied almost immediately that unfortunately they were booked during the days/times I requested but that I could be added to the cancellation list and receive their next available dates. Within minutes of being placed on the cancellation list I was contacted by text and had an appointment booked! Each and every employee I encountered was exceptionally kind and I felt so welcomed. My technician, Jordan, did an excellent job and definitely made me want to return. I also have to note that as I came back toward the front desk from the spa area to check out, an employee was sanitizing the main door handles! The two stars are for the terrible haircut I got and not the front staff (they were very polite and nice). Had the staff been bad, this would be negative stars if possible. I was a last minute apt to this salon. This was my first time here. I have a standard bob haircut that is (shorter underneath) so I thought I could go anywhere in Louisville for a cut... I was wrong. I picked this salon as it has been around for a long time and has a good rep. but my hair cut is not even, even after someone else tried to fix it. The more I look at it now that I'm home, the worse It is getting. Pieces were left uncut and there are parts of the back of my hair that are longer than the front. This is not nor was it a good haircut and I would not recommend someone come here unless they are already working with a stylist so they know what they are going to get. Very disappointed. Now I need to find someone to fix this mess and it's the holidays... Added pictures of what it looked like with new salon and person trying to fix. You can see how bad the cut it. Every single appointment I've had at Joseph's over the 9 years I've been a client has been top-notch. I've been getting regular massage treatments 5-6 times per year and just recently started getting facial services as well, all of which have been fantastic from start to finish. I enjoy that I can book my appointments online, and I especially enjoy that I'm able to communicate with the spa via text messages when I'm too busy at work to place a phone call -- wonderful feature. I book 60-minute massages regularly, and while sometimes it's difficult to find an open appointment exactly when you want it, the staff has always come to the aid and found ways to get me in for times that work with my schedule. I've also learned over the years to book my massages well advance, several at a time, to ensure I get the days/times I need. My boyfriend & I have also had several Time for Two massages, and the staff is so professional, makes him feel extremely comfortable, and provides us with such a memorable, relaxing experience. Many reviews here are complaining about the prices for Joseph's services, but the way my therapists are able to get my neck & shoulders feeling, I've never flinched at the cost. The money I invest in massage therapy here is beyond reasonable for the quality of life they give me. I had a less than desirable experience today at Joseph's Salon. During the winter months, and even more so recently, my already thin hair becomes extremely fragile and I have a lot of breakage/ split ends. I also work in healthcare so my hair is almost always pulled back in a ponytail which tends to cause damage as well. Today, one of the Master Stylists was noticing the fragile condition of my hair and recommended not putting any color in it because it may hurt my hair more- and I appreciated this advice, and I verbalized that I would be happy with just a cut then. However the conversation took a turn when she brought over another Master Stylist and the two of them proceeded that ask me personal medical questions; including asking if I had blood work done recently because I have "thyroid hair". All of this was being talked about in a not so quiet manner with other customers within close proximity. Not only were their comments completely outside of their scope of practice as beauticians - to be diagnosing a customer with an autoimmune disease - but quite honestly I found the the entire situation extremely embarrassing due to their lack of discretion. If I am taking the time to go to a salon & spa on my day off, it is to make myself feel better - and these two Master Stylists certainly did not make me feel too good about myself. I did make my experience known to the receptionist and they were extremely apologetic and did their best to make better of the situation. Needless to say, I will never be returning there. read more

My go-to for getting my hair done. I have been going for years, and know most of the stylists. Many of them have done my hair in a photoshoot setting and have never disappointed. The salon itself is great - free beverages (get the Aveda tea!) and hand and neck massages - it is a true treat to visit this salon. It is expensive, but with hair you definitely get what you pay for and I am not about to risk a hair disaster - at Jo's I always know it will be perfect. Make an appointment ahead of time! Holy crap, man. I had the BEST 90-minute full body massage here today from Parker. He seemed to have his own unique technique which I thought was amazing. It really struck me the precision which with he seemed to be able to target right in on the spots that needed attention. It seemed like he targeted spots that nobody else had before. He really listened to my concerns and preferences and delivered just what I said I was looking for. I told him that I was willing to tolerate some discomfort now for the therapeutic benefit and the good feeling I will have tomorrow. He really delivered an experience that was tough at times but overall it just felt very targeted and very therapeutic. It seemed like he knew exactly what I needed, from my calves to my shoulders. I can't believe I've never reviewed Joseph's before! I usually go see Paula for a hair cut and she always does a wonderful job. I always get a little neck massage after my shampoo, and sometimes a hand massage if they're not too busy. When you check in, they grab you whatever you want to drink - coffee, soda, their delicious tea, mimosa. Paula is always very professional and makes sure that I'm ok with my hair cut. I've also been to Joseph's for a massage which is so relaxing! They make you feel very pampered :) Same thing with their manis and pedis, you get a nice warm bowl to soak your feet in and everyone is so nice! She has never steered me wrong and has even gently suggested other options if I asked for something she knew wouldn't work for my hair. She's amazing! 2) Every time I walk in I'm greeted warmly. I decided to try another salon today, Pure, because they charge less for retouches (Joseph's charges the same price whether it's a full color or retouch) and because I found a $10 off coupon online for first time customers. So I thought I would try it out and save some money for the holidays. I arrive at Pure and they call Joseph's to get my hair color formula and they would not give it to them because the owner wasn't there to okay it. So Pure calls again and lets them know I'm there waiting to get my hair colored and again, they would not give them the formula. After two bad haircuts (1 plus a "fix" that made it worse) and a not so great eyebrow wax job and what happened today. I won't be back to Josephs. read more

As an Aveda salon, I expected something similar to Z - quiet, serene, private. The spa waiting room makes you think it is... until you walk into a loud room, with many stations, and a 4 person pedicure area (comparable to a trough.) Don't get me wrong, the woman next to me was lovely, but when I'm paying $60 for a pedicure, I expected a RELAXING spa experience. Getting into the chair is awkward when it is elevated and there is someone sitting 1.5 feet from you. I will note - the girl who took me back and grabbed my iced coffee was SO lovely - I wish she had been with me my entire visit. She was definitely the highlight of my visit. My toes are vacation ready, but I'm not sure I'll be back to Joseph's - the price is too high for what you receive. read more

Came here to get a red lowlights for THICK CURLY hair. They are not familiar with texture. As I found out. They literally handed me a brush and was asked to brush my own hair out... For $150 isn't that in the price? (Which by the way is the same price as a full head) They told me don't wash my hair... Due to my line of work it's impossible. Next day.. ALL of the color washed out... Every bit of it. Went from the beautiful red I wanted to a faded, washed out pink and it only got worse. It took me another week to schedule an appointment but they redid it for free with no charge. Again I had to brush out my own hair. I got another stylist and she did a great job and tweaked the colors and let it sit longer. Came out just fine. A trim of any sort is an additional $20. Overall I didn't care for the girls giving hand massages.. If you have straight hair this is the place for you. Call ahead about 3 weeks time to get the day you want. Undoubtedly I win the back Aj was kind, but the prices were unreasonable for what service I received in two separate occasions and having to work around their work hours. read more

Nice experience. i called for a few last minute services and they were accommodating enough to work me in that day. I am the kind of person who dreads getting a haircut. I hate making small talk with the hairdresser. I think it's the sense of being captive for the next 15 minutes to infinity that makes me nervous and makes me want to flee. However, Joseph's has made me feel minimally awkward and miserable in the year and a half that I've been going there. In fact, I'll go ahead and say that I enjoy getting my hair cut there. (gasp!) When you get your hair washed before you get it cut, they offer to put a really hot towel on your face which actually feels really good, and they give you a shoulder massage. During the haircut experience, another employee will probably come over to you with a basket of all of the hair products that your hair dresser is using during your appointment and talk to you about what they were. They don't pressure you to buy anything, but they do inform you to make your own decision, which I appreciate. They will also always offer you a drink of the standard free water, soda, coffee, tea, but sometimes they will also have special beverages available such as the free mixed drinks and champagne when I went to get my hair cut before Derby last year!!! They were also doing free arm massages and makeup! Basically, they always go above and beyond here. In fact, they always call me the day before my appointment to remind me that tomorrow is the day! My hair dresser is named Danielle and she is terrific. I have very thick, curly, wavy, mind-of-its-own kind of hair. She always listens to what I want, but also gives me her input when I ask for it (which I do). She seems to understand that I'm an introvert and don't necessarily want to talk her head off when I see her. She lets me have my haircut be a peaceful experience, which is awesome. We do talk, of course (c'mon guys, I'm not a misanthrope!), and even that is a nice time. I know that maybe most people aren't as particular about getting their hair cut as I am, but in case anyone out there cares about these things too...Joseph's is a great choice. read more

My facial specialist was racially insensitive. I never received a consultation and my specialist did not look at my skin closely before starting. I told my specialist I think I have combination skin to which she replied that most ethnic skin types are oily. When I told her about specific places where I get dry she said "sometimes when we wash at home we don't get that spot very well", which shocked and appalled my esthetician friends. My esthetician was obviously more interested in white skin and just wanted to get my service out of the way. This salon does nice work, however my experience with my hairdresser was humiliating, I have long, thick, textured hair that I wanted her to straighten. my hairdresser and I were talking about my hair and then she said "well it's not your fault that you have.." Ok, so let me start by saying I've grown up in salons due to my mother being a hair stylist and I personally worked in a high end salon for years, so I know what to expect in a salon. I went in for a facial the other day. The salon was BEAUTIFUL, very clean, and every person I spoke to was extremely friendly. My appointment was the first of the day so the receptionist wasn't at the desk for the first two minutes so I stood there waiting- the only part about that annoyed me was so many hair stylists walked past me without assuring me someone would be right with me, but I knew that was probably the case so I waited. Instead of just looking at me, it would have been nice if someone would have just mentioned I would be helped in a moment. If I wasn't familiar with how salons ran, this might have scared me away.. Anyways, my facial was with Hannah. It was fantastic! She was a very sweet and gentle girl. The salon is an upscale salon and honestly, they charge a little more than I want to pay. However, I'll probably go back knowing that the employees seem knowledgeable about their work, it's a very relaxing spa environment, and Hannah made me feel extremely comfortable. read more
