I needed tinsel (fairy hair) replenished as well as a hair cut. Strands was one of the few places I could find to have the fairy hair installed so we headed to Middletown. It is a very nice, clean, bright salon with friendly stylists. Taylor is the only stylist who installs the tinsel. She did an excellent job with the tinsel and the my new hairdo. I had not had my hair cut for some time and needed a fresh look. I gave her an idea of what I wanted and she delivered. Taylor thinned my hair and cut off at least 6 to 8 inches. My wife and daughter use this salon, so this review is mostly about the sitting area. Featuring beautiful lighting and comfortable seating, this is one of my favorite spots that my wife makes me wait for her. My son is a big fan of the velvet chairs, while I prefer the couch. Hairdryers are great white noise for reading. The staff is always polite and my wife always looks good. I have never looked at the prices, I prefer it that way. read more

I felt so welcomed and we had a great conversation. She listened to what I wanted and absolutely nailed it! I even booked another appointment before I left. I have officially received a service from the main categories the salon offers and if I could rate each of them individually I would as it would be a better/more accurate representation than the 4 stars. So for the purpose of the review: Hair by Katie B. (5/5); Massage by Derrick (5/5); Facial by Courtney (3/5). The salon is rented out by many vendors (hairdressers) and it's always clean, well-lit, and the receptionist has always been friendly when one has been present. They just started carrying Kevin Murphy products and have a full range of Amika as well. Katie came highly recommended to me after my hairdresser moved and I see why! She actually listens to what you want and makes adjustments to your color/cut as you talk. Others I have dealt with only do that upon the initial consultation and then when you ask for something lighter/darker or a different application they take it personally. She is booked solid so don't think you can pop in for a color fix or cut - granted she is a doll and would probably bend over backwards to make it work but that's beside the point. I cannot speak to the other hair dresser who work there but it's always busy! I was really hoping that the Spa would live up to its hype as they utilize Naturopathica products, which I've been dying to try, but it has some hits and misses. When you walk into the spa section you are in a small-ish space where you can check in and see the products offered/utilized in the treatment rooms. It has a ton of light and during my visit did not have any noise/music. I had my massage scheduled first and was taken through a door behind the reception desk to an area to change/put my belongings. After changing you are directed to a wall of chairs where they pour hot water into a basin with essential oils and wash/scrub your feet. This was odd to me. 1) I hate people touching my feet unless I'm getting a pedicure 2) it was soooo uncomfortably quiet that it made the interaction between me an the masseuse start off on the wrong note 3) I am not a germaphobe, but they did not use any type of liner so my thoughts went to the last time it was used/when it was cleaned. This is something I would ask the business to maybe mention at the desk during check in so that if a person wants to skip this and just wipe down their feet prior to the massage they can. From there I went to the massage room and spoke with him about what I wanted out of the massage. Typical of any place, they give you some time to get on the table and get comfortable. The massage was AMAZING, I would have happily laid there for 2 hours! He was very conscientious about the areas I mentioned and checked in throughout the appointment regarding pressure. My only complaint would be to turn up the white noise machine as I could hear every cough/sniffle in the hallway. Afterwards I went to a facial room and spoke with Courtney about my concerns. I was hoping for the same blissed-out experience, but not so much. I mentioned that I have facials regularly and she could use steam and extract if she wanted but none of that happened. She didn't check in throughout the appointment and I literally felt like she would wash my face, put on an oil, wash my face, put on another oil. I'm not sure if this is naturopathica's method for facials, but I walked out with skin that felt like I had just washed it at home with micellar water. No extractions, no steam, no circular massage for fluid drainage, minimal neck/chest work, no eye cream, literally no glow-y loveliness that makes you keep coming back. She walked me to the front desk and handed me a card with all the products she used and provided a regimen I should follow. I mentioned I might grab a few but then started looking at what she recommended and UHH - it was well over $300 in products. Yeeaaah, that's a no from me. I really wanted the facial to be amazing but it simply wasn't. I will definitely be back for my hair and potentially another massage IF I can skip the creepy foot part lol. read more

I bought the Groupon for a 60 min facial and easily booked an appointment via phone with a friendly staff member. When arriving, I was promptly greeted and offered a drink. I changed into a comfortable robe and made my way to the relaxation room where I was giving a foot scrub prior to my service. Keri did a fabulous job on my facial. She was very friendly and talked me through what she was using on me and doing the entire time. I do wish she had more recommendations for my skin type but it's ok. Amazing service and very professional. I tend to play a lot of golf and have had some shoulder issues recently. The message therapist was able to really help me with a deep tissue message.
