We were passing through and burritos sounded like just the thing everyone needed. These burritos, however, weren't worth the stop. The beef was tough, the filling wasn't flavorful and it wasn't hot. Also, the chips were broken and tasteless. Tamales were meh. Seemed to be doing a decent business, so maybe it works for locals. If you've ever had good Mexican food in your life, however, this place will disappoint. The girl taking orders was masked (thank you) but the cooks and other workers were not. I was driving into Sequim and searching yelp for a place to eat when the name caught my eye. I knew that if Jose had some famous salsa I at least wanted to try it. I'm a fan of any place with a salsa bar and this one is no exception. I now realize I did a great disservice to my fellow yelpers by not taking a picture of the salsa bar. There were a variety of salsas, including mild and spicy. I found the green one to be particularly delicious, as well as the mild red one. I loved the originality of the carrot one and love the ability to put extra onions and cilantro on my food. I do wish they had some larger containers as I had to make multiple trips, but it was well worth it. I was happy to find a simple menu with mostly tacos, tamales and burritos. The veggie option is a combination of mushrooms, green and red peppers and onions. The restaurant is divided into a counter service area, a sit down area and a bar. There is also a patio out front. We enjoyed some happy hour margaritas as well. The beer list looked good as well. I enjoyed the way the place was decorated, lots of interesting old things to look at, bathroom signs with people crossing their legs and flamingo door handles. At one point in time, this restaurant has outstanding foods and service. Sadly that is no longer true, unless you're sitting in the bar section of the restaurant. This place is a disappointment of a sit down restaurant. If you're on the non-alcoholic side of the restaurant, it's pretty much dining out at a fast food restaurant. You order at the counter and wait for your food and then you sit down. On the other hand, if your in the bar area, it's full service with a waitress who's willing to take your drink and food order. So if you want the restaurant experience sit in the bar section. On this trip, I had no interaction with the staff. Even when I was attempting to order. The bartender/waitress came by the order counter and call back a order for her table and walk away. She didn't even mention coming back to take my order or the order of the family behind me. It's was like we were not even there. The 3 cook look at me, then the bartender walking away and then they went back to cooking. It was at this point I decided my money is better spent elsewhere, or at least at a please that acknowledge my presence in their establishment. They need to retrain they're Sunday wait staff or just hired new ones. read more

This was the worst tasting Mexican Food we have ever had! Guac, taco, tamale, beans....everything was awful!

I went to Jose's on 12/29/20 for margaritas and some food for a nite out with my friend. I don't care if things are upside down because of COVID, this was one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life. The service was apathetic-at best. Mostly non-existent and I actually felt like I was in a foreign city and didn't speak the language. Where do I go? what do I do? What were rules under COVID in this restaurant? No signage, no verbal directions, no help from the help. Finally directed to the cold, dark front of the store but the patio heaters were turned off and when we asked for directions, were told to just pull the string. We played around alot with the heaters trying to get them to work. Again, no one came to help despite at least 4-5 employees (maybe one of them the owner) on the premises. The nachos were horrible! Soggy, limp tortilla chips, chewy mystery meat that was supposed to be chicken but looked like it might have been steak, grated boxed parmesan cheese as a topping? On Mexican food? The margaritas were $9.50 each and lacked alcohol, heavy on the sour with none of the zing one should get from a good margarita. I usually have a small buzz from one margarita, nothing. And when I brought them back saying how sour they were I got a HEAVY shot of agave from a plastic bottle directly into the two drinks. I will never come back to Jose's. The other Mexican restaurants in town may not serve fully authentic Mexican food either, but their service doesn't suck. read more

This is the 2nd time we gave Jose's a try and the 2nd time we were disappointed with the "service" (we had a to go order.) We ordered 4 entrees, a bag of chips, and a pint of salsa. When the order arrived at our house, it appeared that one of the burritos was missing. I made a complaint to Doordash and they refunded my money for the missing item. After dinner, we folded down the bag of chips and set it aside in case we would have more later. After two days, I decided to throw the chips out and I discovered the missing burrito had actually been placed AT THE BOTTOM OF A FULL BAG OF CHIPS--what?! Why would anyone do that? So, it sat on my counter for two days, at the bottom of the bag of chips. Just a bizarre way to pack a to-go bag. read more

We ordered a fish burrito and beef enchiladas to go. Salsa bar was well stocked and we prepped some in to go containers while awaiting our order. Staff was friendly and atmosphere was very pleasant. We got our food quickly and got home to eat dinner. Our meals were packaged perfectly and the enchiladas didn't leak out of packaging into the bag. Food was fresh and delicious. The food here is AMAZING!!!! My favorite thing to order is the chicken tamale. They have a salsa bar, so you can customize your food's heat level, and how much salsa/sour cream you want on your food. The Mexican rice is also a great thing to order. I always mix mild salsa and sour cream into the rice, and it makes it taste amazing!! You should definitely order Mexican rice with your main dish, it really balances out the meal. The actual restaurant has super cute decor, and has a place where you can order yourself, or have your food served/brought to you. There's a bar too. Overall, this is one of my favorite restaurants in Sequim, and I think you'll enjoy their food too! read more

AMAZING SALSA BAR! However I'm only giving 2 stars for the following reasons: 1) Sustainability: all salsas are placed in plastic containers and all 'silverware' is also plastic. Plus the to-go boxes are styrofoam. They definitely lack for being environmentally friendly. This is a pretty big disappointment to see given the state of our world right now. Would love to see the owners find compostable or at least recyclable options. 2) You can't customize orders very much due to the veggies being pre-mixed and cooked. Once you walk in, you can either go left for self serve or right for having a server. You can decided on having someone take your order or if you just want to be left alone. Came here with my family the other night for dinner. We sat at the self serve. I order the chicken enchiladas, which could have been better. The sauce reminded me of canned sauce you get at the store. Wasn't crazy about the rice, it tasted as if they left on the warmer for way to long. The beans were good. My husband got the wet burrito the only thing he complained about is that it didn't come with rice and beans. Probably for the best he said. My mom got 4 tacos (asada, pastor, lengua, and fish) she said they were okay. I tried the taco de lengua and it wasn't good. There was something about it that didn't taste right. The tortilla was not cooked all the way. My dad got the torta de asada and he said out of all the places, this place was the best. So bravo to you, have something that was great. Oh heck no! Got the fajita burrito which was prepared in under 2 minutes. And which smelled and tasted exactly like wet dog food. There was just meat beans rice and tiny non fresh bell pepper, which was a rare find in this burrito. One of the salsas was fermented. And they have tiny plastic cups for the salsa. Sooooo my coworker suggested this establishment. I am highly disappointed that I just wasted 40$. I ordered a shrimp fajita burrito that had ABSOLUTELY no flavor. The shrimp was tiny frozen shrimp you can buy in the frozen food section, not actual shrimp you would expect paying more for on the Olympic peninsula. Honestly, the worst burrito I have ever had. A microwave burrito has more flavor. The well margarita was WAY to sweet in which I only drank a quarter of and walked out highly disappointed. Mexican food is supposed to have flavor. Seems like a decent place for lunch, or a beer, but not for dinner. We had a group of four and were looking for a beer and a bite to eat. This place had high reviews on yelp, but it must be for some other reason than dinner. Sat at the only empty four chair table, took a while for someone to come clean it. Ordered 3 beers, and a margarita at first. Happy hour prices were decent. However, took a substantial amount of time to get our beverages. Never was brought water which was odd given the hot day. The most confusing thing is this was a Mexican restaurant that doesn't bring you chips and salsa to snack on with your beer. Ordered some nachos to share, with some pulled pork on the side (eating with vegetarians). Nachos were pretty disappointing. Not a lot of chips, hardly any cheese, and the pork was not seasoned at all. For the price of $12 this was a meager nacho order. Service was slow after we finished eating, took a while to get the check. This place seems like it would be better to just grab a burrito and go. They had an great salsa bar with plenty of options, and self-serve sour cream which is unheard of these days. Beers were reasonably priced for happy hour. So if I get a chance to go back, it would be for a burrito, beer and salsa, and not when on any schedule at all. I had a friend that had 3 taco trucks in California and would spend 6 months in Mexico and the rest in Ca. She taught me a lot about their region of Mexican food. I LOVE Jose's Chile Rellano! Not that bad actually for a Mexican restaurant not close to Mexico. I ordered ceviche and a burrito. The burrito was way too big while the ceviche was moderately sized but not that filling as it didn't contain much shrimp. The salsas were good but the chips were over cooked and tasted a bit stale. The burrito was good for the most part despite the fact that there was too much lettuce and the cheese tasted like craft cheese. The ceviche was not bad but it tasted more like salsa than ceviche. Ok I'm going to start by saying the salsa here is excellent. Great salsa bar. At walking in there was a very perfumy smell which turned me off. We had chips and salsa. The chips are really yukky. Bad aftertaste. Of course no good wine but they did have Mack n Jack so hunny was happy. We got 2 carne asada tacos. No good. Cheese wasn't melted and it was extra cost. I've had much better tacos. The restaurant has great atmosphere and is super clean. I loved the fresh salsa bar with all the varieties. The service was horrible. No one acknowledged us for a few minutes then brought us water and seemed to forget about us. Took about 15-20 minutes to get our order taken and another 25 minutes to get our food. The food was good, but not great. My taquitos were hot in the outside but cold on the inside. One of the waitresses was cussing and swearing behind the bar about a customer which was really unprofessional. I don't think the atmosphere or salsa is enough to bring me back. read more

Terrible. It's a mystery how Jose's can screw up a taco, but here we are. The chicken they serve comes from the food wholesaler pre-grilled. They open the bag and heat it on the grill with no seasoning. There was no flavor whatsoever. If they are counting on their 'famous' salsa bar to lend that flavor, well, they missed the memo on that, too. Even the tortilla chips were awful and tasted like they had been reheated over and over.
