Chile relleno with rice and beans
    Frances M.

I was really excited to try Jose's Famous Salsa Restaurant, but it was a bit of a disappointment. I had a chicken tamale, a spinach artichoke tamale, chile relleno, and sopapillas. The chile relleno was small, but good, and came with rice and beans which were also quite good. The tamales were a huge disappointment. I ate the spinach one because it was okay, but I took one bite of the chicken tamale, got a big chunk of dry stringy chicken, and once I could finally swallow it, didn't take another bite. I took it home and doctored it up a bit and it was all right then, but I would definitely never order it again. Everything at the salsa bar was great, though, and the sopapillas were wonderful. There were fruit flies everywhere making every bite a challenge. They had live plants in the window and no fly strips anywhere to be seen. My friend (who ordered enchiladas which for too salty for him to finish), bought a $9 glass of wine which he had to pick five fruit flies out of during the course of the meal. This is on top of the constant waving the flies away from our food and faces. He mentioned it to an employee, who seemed pretty apathetic. We get it. It's not her responsibility. It was just an overall disappointing experience.

COVID safety is out the window here. Staff wearing masks with nose hanging out or pulled completely down and then walking to other side of bar to drink. Patrons walking around with no mask though it is the current guideline and then I see bartender put fresh drinks for my table next to an unmasked bar patron before they were served to my table. Salsa bar has no sneeze guard, but this is the only place to get salsa for your chips. The bartenders do not know how to pour a beer. We ordered a porter and a cream ale. The porter had a quarter inch head. The cream ale, no head--no cream on the cream ale. Worst tamales ever! The frozen tamales at Sequim Costco are better than what I ate here. I love tamales, not these. Spicy chorizo, overcooked and bland. The spinach, not as bad because the cream cheese added some moisture. They took the tamales out of the husk and just dumped them on a too big plate. At least if they had left the corn husk on the plate it would have been more presentable. There are a lot of great restaurants on the peninsula. This is not one of them I am sad to say.

Holy shit. We stumbled upon this one. Took a wrong turn off Kitchen-Dick and never looked back. It's rare that a hole in the wall is actually a gourmet venue but Jose lived up to its famous status. Salsa: great! However, 3/4 of my party thought it was as too hot. Not me. Delicious Service: Exceptional. Dudes/Dudettes...the staff is amazing! Beans: I think they do pinto as the standard. Ask for refried like I did. A bit soupy but oh so good! Salsa Bar: one of THE best in Washington

This is a "naked" Al pastor burrito.!!!

So here is this, I am impressed, the salsa is great, just the "mild" I wanted to see what it does. The burrito is out of this world, the flavors are exploding in my mouth, then the "mild" salsa comes in and enhances and bring more of the flavors out! This place is a must!! Come for the food, and enjoy the drinks also!

We had a 15-20 min wait on a busy Tuesday night but we're glad we waited! Our server was friendly and helpful with choosing cocktails because they had a to. Of unique selection. Haven't ordered more than one at a restaurant before but had to try two here! We thoroughly enjoyed our final selections of Ginny from the Block, Garden era, strawberry bourbon smash and Blackberry goose beer! For our mains we got the alaskan cod and chips and Blackened cod tacos and loved it all. They really know how to prepare tasty cod! The Alaskan cod and chips had the perfect crispy texture and my blackened cod tacos had all the flavor profiles you need. A hint of heat in the Thai chili slaw with a creamy avocado, Crema and the brightness of mango salsa and of course a touch of sour with the HOUSE made pickled red onions. Even better they let me substitute corn tortillas in for the flour. But you can't mix and match your proteins. I didn't need to because I loved both of my blackened cod tacos. The atmosphere is in the name: cozy Gastropub. They have a plethora of beers on tap, but parking is solely on the street so a little bit more challenging than picking your beer but I don't think it would be too challenging if you're up for a small walk. We were able to walk from our Airbnb, so didn't have to figure that part out. Pretty sure it was farther than any walk you might have to do for parking!

The chef recommended the thigh and Im glad I went with that! The fried chicken thigh sandwich is the star, juicy, thick breading that is delicious. All sandwiches on a brioche bun and come w/ seasoned fries as a side. The upstate (buffalo flavor) was less wet with sauce than I expected but it was better to let the crunchy chicken shine. The ranch slaw on the sandwich was nice tang although mellow. The deluxe salad is a hefty salad with your choice of chicken, we tried grilled and it was very tasty and good size chunks! Not skimpy! However, The honey mustard dressing was just way too sweet (that is just a personal taste issue, some love sugary). I'd try the spicy ranch next time. (we took food to go, back home so could add vinegar to the salad. then, yum) Cool spot!

It's a small place consisting of maybe 10 tables or less. They had small vases of real flowers on their tables and displayed throughout which is a really nice touch. I did take a bite out of the burger and shared the fries and drink tho. The fries were on point! Not too thick, not too thin. Really crispy outside and yet still soft and warm inside and they gave us a good portion of fries too. Thanks for that! Me and a group of friends (8 total) were visiting the Olympic peninsula for a camping/backpacking weekend and stopped by Midtown on a busy Friday night and were quickly seated. The food tasted good and we had great service during our visit. Since we were a large group, and already had shared expenses for the weekend, when asked about the check we offered to put everything on one tab to save time. Later on that night however, after we had set up our tents at our campground, my partner began to experience intense stomach pains which turned into full blown food poisoning. I spent the next several hours helping them, before I also got sick. It was at this point we realized that it was from the chicken sandwich my partner had ordered at Midtown, since I had eaten her last remaining bites of the sandwich and this was the only food we shared that other members of our group had not also eaten (we all shared food at lunch earlier in the day). My partner and I essentially spent the night in the campground bathroom (we are extremely lucky they had one). The next morning we were feeling depleted, dehydrated, and decided to head home to recover while the rest of the group continued on the trip. We spent the rest of the weekend trying to get food down. I called Midtown the next business day and let them know what happened for their awareness mostly. They thanked me and told me their policy is a full refund if something like this happens and that the group should expect it soon. We didn't hear from them or get notification of a refund so we reached out a week later and they said they forgot and now the owner would only provide a refund for me and my partner's meals and that they never offered a full refund. They said since we had "12 people" on the ticket they wouldn't do it (our tab for 8 people was $186 before tax and tip) but if we had a doctor's note that could change things. I promised them we weren't making it all up and that I've never gotten food poisoning from a restaurant or even left a bad review before! Tired of the gas lighting I decided it wasn't worth arguing and let them know this will have to be my first. It's a shame their management is unprofessional because our experience in the restaurant with the food and staff was nice.
