Jose's Mexican Food has been a staple in my life for as long as I can remember. I first started going there when I was about 19 years old while working at Macy's near the Inland Center Mall. My coworkers and I would regularly walk over for shredded beef tacos and spend way too much time enjoying the amazing chips and salsa bar. Although this review is for the Redlands location, the food brought back all those great memories. I was on my way to pick up my niece in San Jacinto and stopped in with her for breakfast after visiting my son. The food was just as delicious as I remembered. Over the years, I've brought my son, family members, and friends to Jose's, and it's become one of those places that feels like tradition whenever I'm in the area. This location has a really nice atmosphere and feels a bit more decorated than the one I grew up visiting. Whether it's family-owned or part of a larger operation, they've done a great job keeping the quality consistent. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and stop in. The food is delicious, the portions are generous, and if you're anything like me, you'll find yourself loading up on chips and salsa while waiting for your meal. read more

In short, upscale counter service Mexican food that feels more like an El Torito. I was a part of a larger group, a few of which were straggling behind, and i haven't been here before so I peppered the lady at the counter with questions any the menu. She was really helpful, giving suggestions and inviting us to take seats and wait for everyone so we could all order at the same time. After we all ordered, the food came out surprisingly quick. I ordered a regular burrito with carne asada. I ordered it dry so I could eat it by hand, but after seeing someone else get the wet one, I wished I had, too. It was good as is, though, and had a decent amount of meat, which was well seasoned and tender. My +1 ordered a 2-item combo with a chile relleno and chicken enchilada, and it came with generous portions of rice and beans. My only complaint was that the chile was a little small and was hiding in the cheese. We also ordered a side of beans for our little, and shared our entrees with him. I was impressed by both the drinks and the chips + salsa options. In addition to the normal Coke products, they had half a dozen specialty drinks: horchata, jamaica (hibiscus), tamarindo, pina colada, lemonade, and several iced teas. Nice place, they have an self serve chips n salsa bar that's very good. We were excited to order the Pueblo burrito but when we got our order, we noticed that most of the burrito was rice.... I mean like 75% of the burrito was rice. It would be an excellent burrito if less rice and more meat and beans. read more

i love jose's! it's my favorite local mexican restaurant. i feel like it's super underrated given the staff are always so generous and nice. the service is quick, they offer a complimentary chips and salsa bar, and their prices are amazing for the portion size. their brunch is also sooo good, i can't recommend it enough! read more

The experience wasnt too bad at first. I initially thought this place was a sit-down because we went to the Yucaipa location first and it was incredibly busy. We decided to go to the Redlands location since they said it was less busy. Ordering food was like ordering at farmer boys. Didnt know that was the deal but got through it but i ordered a large strawberry margarita after asking if it was strong. The cashier said yes. After trying it, i disagreed. It was too sweet. I brought it back, not wanting to complain and they offered me options which was nice. I just asked for a soft drink. Food was pretty good. Fish tacos are not bad, al pastor tasted on point and the beans were nummy. Now, the surprise was when i went back for a to go bag, the ladies in front, Brenda and Mari offered me to try the lemon margarita. At first i refused but then i gave it a try. I made a mistake. This was a hit drink and i was glad they tried their best to leave me a satisfied customer. Not alot of places do that. I consider that amazing service because they could have let me walk out a disgruntled customer who traded a 13 dollar drink for a 4 buck drink but instead, they offered me a delicious lemon margarita to go. This is my first time eating here. We were excited to try it. We ordered in-person but take-out. A chicken tortilla soup, a taco salad and my two California chicken tacos. I am reviewing the chicken tacos and they were terrible. A huge tortilla which I couldn't figure out if it was corn or flour. It was not yellow so my guess is that it was flour. It was awful. The chicken was bland. I cannot deal with a soggy taco and these were but that tortilla was so thick it couldn't sog. Their salsas were great. I was so happy with the service from Misty I promised to go back. But this was a waste of money. $12 for 2 awful tacos is something that I would not do again. We placed an order for a long burrito with chicken and were quoted $59.99. The staff explained that prices range from $49.99 to $65, depending on the meat. Shortly after placing the order, we realized we needed to accommodate vegetarian guests. I immediately called back to change the order to half chicken and half beans and cheese. When I asked how this would affect the price, the staff member abruptly hung up on me. At pickup, we were still charged the full chicken price with no adjustment--even though half of the burrito was vegetarian. No explanation, no discount. To make matters worse, they didn't even include any sauce or salsa for the burrito. This felt dishonest and frankly, exploitative. As fellow business owners, we value fair pricing and good customer service. Unfortunately, this experience showed neither. The best mexican food i've ever had! The original burrito was fire, also the burrito came super fast, i'm gonna come here again!

The quality and quantity is good, but the price is ridiculous. They want $10 for a cheese quesadilla! There are no extras, just cheese inside two grilled flour tortillas. The wet carnitas burrito is generous but also over $16 if you only choose basic red or green sauce. This place used to be reasonable. I get it, prices are going up everywhere, but they seems to really be taking advantage. read more

Jose's Mexican Food is a small family owned chain of restaurants. The music, décor and vibe, all exude Mexican food. I've really liked the self-serve chips and salsas. This way I can make up my own salsa (see pic of chips and salsa) flavor to suit my mood on that day (hotter on cooler days and refreshing on hotter days - of course). My go-to is their Taco Salad. First, the shredded chicken is flavorful, in and of itself. Then the guac, and greens are fresh. But, for me, the "dessert" is the crispy salad shell at the bottom. On the bottom of the salad shell bowl is a layer of refried beans, and by the time I have eaten my way down there, all the flavors have gravitated there and have become quite a treat of rich Mexican flavor faire. The tacos were good. The hard shells remained crispy and the greens were crisp. But the shredded beef and chicken also had good flavors by themselves. I've been here many times at lunch with work peers. We can order and pay separately at the order counter, and our orders have come out promptly. And since we have paid when we placed out orders we are not waiting for a server for the check or payment process. Also there have been ample tables to seat 6 of us. Plus there is a Mexican ice cream shop a few doors away for dessert. While I have had good service and quality, I can see there may not be the consistency of a corporate operated business. read more

When you want a good salsa bar / chips with a great sizzling fajita steak platter, this is the place to go! They have 4 different types of salsas + chips you can choose from at the bar to take to your table. Which makes a great snack before getting your meal. My favorite item is the sizzling fajita plate. It comes on a cast iron plate with the steak overlying the fajita along with beans, rice, and sour cream. You grab your tortillas and make your own little mini burritos. Soo good! I used to come here with my father. It was our place after doctor appointments. Was finally in the area, tried their breakfast options for the first time. I wanted to make a suggestion to put in a pick up window for online orders. Even though you schedule a pick up time and paid prior they still make you wait in line with everyone else who's ordering, which is really besides the point. It's happened a couple times before as I often come her for lunch as it's nearby my work. But today it seemed like this chick purposely made me wait behind 4 different people to put in their orders and pay, even though I said I was just picking up and had already paid online. She even went to go wait on some tables before coming back to me. Luckily a kind citizen let me go first. Shout out to him!
