My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Park, Return) Atmosphere - Rio Vista Park is located in Irving's La Villita neighborhood. It's an official Irving Park so it's open to the public. It's a quiet park that sits in between houses in the neighborhood. On pretty days you'll see a pickup game or two of basketball or a family gather at the covered patio on weekends. On the weekends, several cars will be parked alongside the park because it's such a great entrance to Campion Trails. 2 Star. Park - While the entrance to Campion Trails is why most people visit the park; it still has some great features. There are two half court basketball hoops, a playground for young kids, and a covered patio with outdoor grills. Rio Vistra Park also has a long green field surrounded by a sidewalk (great for walking) where football games will spawn in the fall. This is a public park, so all amenities are first come first serve. 2 Stars Will I Return? - Yes. I love Rio Vista Park. I use the entrance to Campion Trails every weekend to ride my bike, and my kids grew up playing on the playground. There are three section-small dog, large dog & water. Be aware though-the small dog area gets a little swampy too when it rains a lot. All three sections are quite large and grassy (not muddy). There are plenty of poop bag stations, trash cans, water fountains and shady areas. The other pets and pet parents have always been wonderful and friendly. We have been to quite a few dog parks in the DFW area since moving here, and this is my favorite by far (and the dogs love it too). Note: To get to the dog park area, turn where the Carrollton Animal Shelter is-the dog park section is on the right just past the shelter.

Apparently people have flocked from there to come to McInnish Park and I'm sad to say, I'm one of those people. McInnish Park doesn't come up right away in searches when you're looking for dog parks so that's why it's a hidden gem. They have a good amount of parking and the standard separate sections for big and small dogs. But wait for.....there's a THIRD section.....ohhhh....ahhhhh.....ohhhhh! The third section is welcome to all pups and features a pond/lake/watering hole for your dogs to swim and play in! I have a six month old pup and while he's been in the water before, really had no idea that he would jump right in. Wrong I was. He could not get enough of the water and sadly I had to pay for it later while attempting to clean him off. The space is nice and heavily shaded so perfect for day time. You have your standard crazy dog people who like to camp out in the small dog section with camping chairs, coolers and cliques so be aware of that. Personally, I would rather socialize with the four legged friends.

Out for a speed walk, I was delighted that there is a gravel/dirt trail along the cement trail which serves as a good shock absorption and is a bit easier on joints than cement. I was surprised by the crowds here on my first visit in early June 2020 during the pandemic--especially mixed groups of young people playing sports--the music was pumping and the vibes were positive. The flower freak in me was delighted to see an orange and red-colored, tropical milkweed I had not yet seen in Texas as well as to sniff some fragrant jasmine! While I prefer Andrew Brown Park East, the West Side is also beautiful and nicely maintained with great restroom and athletic fields.

The last side is the parking lot, which is a pretty good distance from the playground equipment, and the road, which is really far away. This park does not have picnic tables or restrooms.

A weight room of sorts with aerobic devices weight machines ;and barbells as free weights. Just enough to loosen yourself up so you can play other sports. Full size Basketball court. That has 3 pickle ball courts painted in the the court as well as at least two volleyball courts. Daytime during school hours for adults after 3 for youth. The pickle ball courts are used on Monday and Wednesday in afternoon and on Tuesday and Thursday in morning. Those who play there all the time are most welcoming to to the newcomer. The addition of the pickle ball courts shows the center responds to community requests. Outdoors is where the Center has really invested in the needs of our children. There at least 3 activity centers for the younger kids including a rather new looking splash park. Their is a full size basketball court outside. A skateboard bike park. There are ball diamonds for base ball leagues. In the very back of property are two tennis courts well kept up with two pickle ball courts their as well. The rec center has been around for many years and if you are worried about your safety . The local jail is right across from the center with our police department
