This place rocks. They smoke their own meats and fish. The Pastrami is incredible and different from typical Jewish deli pastrami. It tastes more refined and lighter. The smoked salmon is done on site. Their brunch menu is awesome. Try the smoked grouper Reuben. It almost tastes like whitefish but again is more refined. The coleslaw is delicious. The latkes are plump and not the thin crispy type. I actually prefer mine thinner but these are definitely delicious. I asked my husband to pick me up a corned beef on rye. It ended up being one of the best I've ever had. (Right behind Katz Delicatessen) He ordered pastrami and turkey on rye which he said was also delicious. He told me it was a place that should be on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives". My sons chicken noodle soup with a matzo ball was not your typical, but it was amazing. It had red onion and kale in it too. I'm really glad I ignored some of the bad reviews and got food from here. Someone made a review and said that they only serve soda by the can, so no refills. I'm curious to know where she is from because I don't know too many places besides burger king that provides refills. And of course it's extra for egg whites only. Doesn't every restaurant do that? Awesome Jewish comfort food with a modern twist! Came here with some family and friends visiting from NY for brunch and got to try a little bit of everything. HUGE portions makes up for the slightly higher prices. The place is tiny and cramped, but the chef, Josh himself, makes everyone feel welcomed. We sat at the bar behind the flat top so we could watch everything being made. Started off with MONSTER latkes topped off with a slice of baked apple (a fun twist from apple sauce) I had the Lamb Benedict which was out of this world! Super fresh and lighter than I expected. My dining companions had the surf and turf breakfast burrito (which I did not try but it looked fantastic and humongous!); the corned beef benedict (which was super tender and delicious); and a pastrami sandwich (best pastrami I've had so far in South Florida). So good! Been twice. First time I got the French toast with Mamey cream, it was really good, just very sweet, an FYI if you get overwhelmed easily. The next time I had the fried chicken salad with waffles, really good! My boyfriend had it the first time we came and they had changed something about it this time, it was even better the first time. Rave reviews have been generous for this little spot in surfside. You come in crushing on the feeling of the place as it's very homey. I was guest #2 for the morning as they just opened up at 8:30am I ordered my espresso and ordered the benediction and a cornbeef sandwich which seem to be the online favorites. The namesake was maning the kitchen which I thought was cool in the open kitchen. He may have been behind on his prep or something or he really has focus on fresh eats because he was still working on batches of bagels and topping them off. 20 minutes in he decided to start on my benediction. I didnt see any fresh cutting of the beef or anything but at the moment the dish made it in front of me it was less than exciting. Eggs Benediction: Bagel: Great Potatoes/hash: great Corn beef: dryyyyy . He threw water or some fluid to reheat it on the skillet but it was dead... Hollandaise sauce: nice and lemony but barely on my dish Eggs: overcooked.. I was looking for yolk to ooze all over my hash. This moment would never come. 30 minutes in he was trying to work on the only other table's order of smoked salmon when I decided to 86 the sandwich. To which he instructed the waitress to give me 10% off. A set of parents and 2 kids sat down and walked put in all this time because the kids were hungry. A Josh's "first name basis" guest which was the only guest prior to me had a fresh juice and also 86 his Chow Fun order he had made earlier and said he may come back later. I was in Miami on vacation and this place showed up on Yelp. Decided to give it a try and I did not regret it one bit. Perhaps it's the beautiful weather down there, but something about this place makes you feel like everyday is a weekend and you can truly relax. I was there in the middle of the day on a weekday and was thoroughly relaxed sitting here. A nice breeze was coming in and the sun was shining. The staff is also really nice and you can see them make the food right in front of your eyes. They're not pulling things out of cans or the freezer. The food is phenomenal. I got the Jewban, coffee, and the fries with truffle oil and cheese shaved on top. It was spectacular. I still drool a little bit when I look at the picture of it. It's a nice place to come with a friend, catch up, and relax. It's not super big or super fancy, which is why I like it. You can be yourself here. No one to impress and it doesn't feel like you're out of place if you are a normal person who doesn't drive an expensive car. read more

Have been here on three ocassions on different hours served by different employees and sitting at the bar each time. Twice I have had fresh beat and apple juice with the meal. On the most recent visit had the spicy tuna latka and was plesantly surprised by the variety, flavor, consistency, and value of the plate along with the fresh juice. Breakfast with friends is one of my favorite activities! I love meal sharing, catching up and drinking coffee! It's doing everything I love all at once, awesome concept, really! With a friend coming in from out of town we decided we should all meet up at Josh's, we got there early (10am because everyone knows Miami wakes up at 11 and you'll find yourself waiting outside a breakfast spot for an hour wishing you had a pre-meal) and the place was empty -- score! We sat down by the window and drank coffee while we waited for the rest of our party. Reading over the menu really made ordering difficult but we managed to find some great items. housemade donuts - the flavors that day were thai guava, mudslide and one other that I don't believe we tried. I settled on the eggs benediction and love Josh's version so much more than any others I've had. The eggs were settled on a bed of veggies and homefries and instead of an english muffin I got to sop up all that eggy goodness with a homemade bagel. I've never had a homemade bagel and I have to say I may not be able to have them from a store or chain resto again. Other items on the table were the duck hash, eggs with pastrami and challah french toast with caramelized bananas -- everything was awesome. As a matter of fact the pastrami was so good someone took home a sandwich for later! Our waitress was attentive and sweet and the best part about this group meal was she split the check seamlessly and without batting an eye -- hell, she offered to split the check! Who does that?! I went for breakfast last week and the French toast was so good I had to write a review I only gave it 4 stars because we had to seat at the counter the place is really small and the chairs had no back support which after a while made my back hurt. Back to the French toast it was so good I almost couldn't stop to take a picture it had brie cheese and bacon in the middle with strawberry sauce on top I really liked the combination of sweet, salt and the texture of the bacon with the cheese definitely worth it. read more

I saw Josh's Deli on the Food Network show "Unique Eats" and had to come and check it out. Especially when I heard they make their own everything bagels!! That's all I needed to hear to plan on eating here immediately. I went for breakfast and ordered the corned beef hash with poached eggs and an everything bagel with cream cheese. It was everything I dreamed of...big chunks of seasoned beef, crispy hash browns with sweet carmelized onions and peppers and two soft runny poached eggs on top. The everything bagel was the star for me - it was fresh, toasted until crispy on the edges and a nice salty bite from the seasonings on the outside! Yummmmmmm!!!! I really wanted to like Josh's deli but I didn't have a good experience. The service was subpar and they refused to make any changes to my order-- they said I had to order it as it was on the menu-- that would have been fine except they had very few options I could eat as it was (I'm a vegetarian and I went with my meat-eating family members). We sat at the bar and could see how dirty everything was that they cook with. The chef that was there was extremely moody and had a terrible attitude-- frankly it ruined the experience. The menu is limited and it is and overpriced for what you get. I'm bummed I didn't enjoy my time at Josh's-- I had heard such good things. I won't be back. read more

Tried this place for lunch after seeing the reviews. It was underwhelming to say the least. The pancakes were undercooked and doughy, the crab on the crab croissant smelled as if it was a week old. The pastrami was delicious but the sandwich was just pastrami on bread. No mustard no salt/pepper. This meal came in at $70 and was mediocre at best. Best Montreal style, home made bagels in South Florida.... almost as good as Siegel's bagels in Vancouver, Canada. The sandwiches are generous. Go with a good appetite, the servings are generous. Go early if you want to buy bagels to go or have them with your meal. They run out fast, and for good reason. The place is very small and has limited seating so you may have to wait but it's worth it. The staff are friendly and seem happy! It's definitely a tiny space so make sure to go early or when you are able to wait for a table--trust, it will be worth it!! The menu is very unique. I would call it a Jewish deli with a big twist! It's the kind of menu that makes you want to share everything with the people you go with because it's hard to choose just one entree. My friend and I shared the spicy tuna latkes which are traditional latkes topped with a generous amount of seared tuna steak and a sriacha cream cheese. WOW!! Sooo good. We also shared the Corned Beef Eggs Bennie which had a delicious, creamy hollandaise and chunks of housemade meat mixed with breakfast potatoes. 3.5 Stars. After taking a brief hiatus from visiting Josh's Deli to try other brunch spots all over South Florida, I found myself back visiting my estranged "food husband" this past weekend. The grub is still solid, but the menu was completely different from what I remember. I didn't see any beignets or the Jewban and the menu just seemed to have less items in general. Sadly, the service has gone downhill. Josh's is a tiny place, only enough to seat about 20-30 people - a few tables inside, one outside and a bar right next to Josh slinging his brunch action on the grill. I ordered a mimosa which took over 20 minutes to get. I asked the server once and then followed up with another server (or food runner). She claimed their were out of glasses, but I only saw two others drinking mimosas - mmm K. Instead of communicating, they each brought me a mimosa and charged me for two. To be fair, I did drink both. I figured they were being nice for keeping me waiting forever. I didn't really want two to begin with since they are $9 a pop. Whatever, not the end of the world. I wasn't feeling adventurous so just got the basic platter of eggs, latke, bacon and rye toast for $13.95. I received one piece of grizzled bacon and the toast had zero butter. I opted not to ask as the servers to correct the situation as they were already pretty stressed out with the other customers hounding them for their checks and about the status of their food. On a positive note, my actual husband ordered "The Mexican Dragon" which is a fusion of seared tuna with chipotle sauce and Asian flavors. This was actually pretty good. Weird, but tasty. He ate the entire thing without complaining. Unfortunately, this was not the long awaited reunion I had hoped for so I'm downgrading my review. Hopefully they will get better servers or teach the ones they have how to be more efficient. They were stressing me out! I still love you Josh! read more

Was so excited to try this place ... I love pastrami. I am a new yorker and there are very few places left that make a good pastrami sandwich... We got the lunch time and sat down right away, excellent service.. Menu is SMALL .. breakfast and a few lunch sandwiches and some soup .. We started with a huge bowl of matzo ball soup .. deff not traditional... you can tell it was fresh and the soup was tasty had chicken and pasta and onions and a HUGE matzo ball , but again not traditional. But good .. A great find in North Miami Beach, this small oasis of genuinely delicious food was a welcome start to each one of our sunny Miami days on a recent visit. The Corned Beef Benediction was especially good with the large chunks of corned beef and expertly prepared poached eggs with hollandaise. The hand cure salmon on site was delicious and the latkes options were creative and tasty. Larisa working the counter and the tables was friendly and a joy in the morning, and Josh on the grill didn't disappoint. We will be back every holiday! read more

The sign inside says "doing deli wrong." I would add, but oh-so right! I had some sort of corn beef hollandaise egg MOUND. It came out and I thought there was no way I'd be able to eat it. I was wrong. It was weird and wonderful. The ball and chain had the basic egg combo. I think she was disappointed. We saw a table get served the Brie French Toast it looked OFF THE CHAIN good. Never to be disappointed and never to have a bad experience, Josh's Deli has always been an amazing time. You may not find a 3 page menu but what you will find is very different creative ways of serving deli meals with a mixture of brunch ideas. To keep things fresh and innovative the brunch menu changes from time to time. I always make sure to try at least two entrees, So no matter what I always get to try the new french toast that is on the menu. Servings are big enough to where you can share with someone, or just make sure you bring a big appetite. Well I call for delivery and for some strange reason they are not doing deliveries. No cool points for this. So being that I live close I decide to place and order for pick up. We decide to get a couple of pastrami sandwiches and fries. The lady then informs me that they have no more fries another not cool point. This was okay because all I really wanted was the pastrami. I get my sandwich which was ready when I got there and I was greeted by an attentive team that were very happy to be there as you know attitude is everything. I get home and dig into my sandwich and it was prepared just how I wanted it but the pastrami was a bit fatty and the portion was not that large, but it was good. In the future I will make sure to opt for the lean pastrami. Will I go back? Yes! Josh and his team are awesome! read more
