I visited the Pheasant Lane Mall location today and was so impressed with the clerk I had to send a quick note of appreciation. His name was Blake, and from the moment I walked in he was incredibly personable and engaging. He asked if I was looking for anything in particular, and I said no, I was just really looking for some [more] toys to play with while at my desk at work. He was as excited as I was to find me something fun that I didn't already have. Honestly, what better attribute could someone selling toys have, than LOVING toys? While walking me around to the various areas, showing me some of his favorites and asking me what I already had, he gave me a history lesson on the store and the founder Josh. He even noticed my name on my ID and told me "oh Josh's mother's name is Mary" and we laughed because I have a son Josh as well. In conclusion, Blake turned what would have just been a fun trip (I mean, who doesn't like playing with toys?) into a great trip and made a Josh's forever customer here. Well done! read more

It's tough for a moderately sized toy and game store to find the right mixture of everything - toys, games of all types, hobbies, etc. - to find a successful mix to be of interest to everybody. I feel this store has done that. The store has a variety of games of all types: strategy, family, card, dice, etc. I also found things of interest in lots of my other categories of interest including puzzles, brain teasers, party items, science stuff, and items for kids. I've met Josh. When I told him I gave the first of his stores I visited 4 stars, he asked me what he could do to get that store up to 5 stars, and I gave him the feedback. For this particular store, for me, to get it to 5 stars, I would suggest a more interactive sales staff, and perhaps fewer of the giant plush pillow characters throughout the store. Maybe they're a hot item, but to me it felt like they occupied a lot of shelf space that could have been occupied by other inventory. But overall, I'm glad to see independent toy and game stores like Josh's in malls. It's like a breath of fresh air, and it's definitely a store in which I would want to shop. read more

I ordered a game from Josh's Toys and Games in August. It was never shipped to me. I wanted to support a small business rather than buying a game from Amazon, so this is really disheartening. I have REPEADILY tried to contact customer support and Josh. I have submitted things on their contact form on their website, called multiple of their in store locations, and messaged them on Facebook. No response, no help, nothing. The people in the store say Josh is the only person to help me but I have received no response from my probably 15 attempts of contacting customer support. It just sucks, my girlfriend isn't a card game person but we played one that she liked and I wanted to order it for us to play. I just want the game or a refund. I don't think that is too much to ask for. read more

Stopped in to kill time with my son (he's 8) while his mother and sisters were clothes shopping. What a great selection of really fun toys and games! Prices aren't bad either. The young lady working there was friendly, courteous and helpful. She demonstrated some of the toys and was quick to answer questions to any who asked. I ordered some games and toys in January and haven't received them yet. I have been trying to contact customer service via phone and email for 3 months. I always get a "we'll have our manager contact you" in response. It's been so long so I've asked for a refund and still nothing. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! They've basically ghosted me. I would personally avoid this store if you enjoy reasonable prices and positive customer service. The few times I've walked into this store, the single working employee was slumped on the counter -- both times -- and merely glanced up at me and offered a 'hi.' The other reviews about this small chain's overpricing is accurate, as of my few visits anyway. One thing I haven't read, however, is the state of the store itself: disorienting and unorganized. Each time I stepped into this store (Manchester location), I immediately had the desire to leave because of the tight aisles, if they could even be called that. When I brought my single purchase to the counter (for my nephew), the store manager (Rich or something, didn't have a name tag) merely took it out of my hand, scanned it and waited for payment. He didn't bother to offer a price (I know it was on the box, but what if I were buying more than one item?). A very negative attitude seems to be common place in this store. It makes me wonder about their goals -- customer service, or profit. Naturally it would be both, since they generally go hand-in-hand, but not here. Supporting local retailers is a priority of mine, but not when they treat people like this, nor when they exploit prices as they do, especially around the holidays. Thumbs down. read more

This store just makes me so mad. It seems so innocent at first. There's the story about how it's just some young guy's on personal toy store. it's so sweet! It's in a Chicken Soup for the Soul book! Yet that's where the sweetness ends. Josh is absolutely into the dark side of capitalism; there's very little sweetness to be found in the store. The selection is nice to have for something in a mall. Toys and games that boost the mind rather than just milk the latest family friendly movie blockbuster are a breath of fresh air in a mall, as are specialty gaming products (Munchkin, Ticket to Ride, Setltlers of Cataan, etc). They have a lot of lego sets, designer brand monopoly editions and miscellaneous educational toys and games for children. And it is all way overpriced. The selection is nice, especially considering it's in a mall, but at the prices Josh's demands and with the methods Josh's employs, I strongly urge people to take their business elsewhere. I'm no expert on what lego sets cost, but I'm sure the price at Josh's is not a penny less than the MSRP, if not actually marked up. The specialty gaming products are marked UP from the MSRP, sometimes significantly. They stock all versions of the popular Munchkin game, but where the MSRP for the core set of each is $24.95, Josh's will charge you $26.99; a full $2 more. The expansion sets, which aren't shrinkwrapped and have their price printed on the box, actually have the prices BLACKED OUT IN MARKER and are then marked up. The price is printed on the core set boxes as well, but these are shrinkwrapped and are thus harder to conceal without unwrapping the product (if not for this, they would also surely be blacked out). "Ticket to Ride", an excellent specialty board game which retails for $50 or so but has no price printed on the box is sold for a whopping $65 here; a markup of $15. Josh clearly just hopes you are unaware, and is happy to rake you over the coals for your educational toys and games. You can get legos at Toys 'R Us or even Wal-Mart. I can't believe I'm urging people to shop at Wal-Mart instead of an independent retailer in this case, but Josh's Toys & Games really and truly sickens me. For specialty game product, just go to your local comic book specialty store where they'll probably have it in stock, as least there for MSRP at most; or get it online for a discount if you can wait. Shop here as a LAST resort. If your brother NEEDS "Ticket to Ride" for Christmas, will accept NOTHING else, and it's 8:55 on Christmas Eve, buy it here. Any other time, stay away. When i first walked into the store, i was greeted by the store's friendly employees. the store always seem to have a sale going on. They sell a variety of toys including yomega yoyos, Lego sets, board/ card games, cars, etc. but most of the items there are expensive. they are mostly 2 dollars more than the regular price. But i dont blame them, they need to make a profit. read more

People that complain about the prices being higher than Walmart are clueless. Do you have any idea how much rent costs in a mall? Walmart gets their inventory for rock bottom prices because of their volume. How do you expect a small retailer to compete? Kudos to Josh on his success, especially at such a young age. read more

What an amazing store! I initially went in with my son looking for a birthday gift for a friend. Their selection on games is absolutely amazing. As a gamer, I love seeing Settlers of Catan, Munchkin, Set, Othello, etc. They definitely have a lot of stuff you wouldn't find at any big box store. The employee there helped us pick a game by making recommendations based on what we knew about the gift recipient. He also pointed out some great games that will definitely be in our Easter basket! Prices range with lego being an absolute steal to games around the same price you'd find anywhere else. I was surprised when they compared their lego prices to places like Toys R Us. I checked online for myself and their prices are outstanding. On games, shopping here is definitely for variety and service. We're out of the market for young children's toys, but they appear to have an excellent selection. The educational games and puzzles were also a nice change of pace. We will definitely be back for more birthday and holiday shopping! read more

This store looks like a positive and friendly place to work at, that was until I went for an interview with Josh for a sales associate position. First of all, Josh was over an hour late to interview me, he then proceeded to tell me during my interview that my resume basically did not seem legitimate. He told me he was going to contact my high school to make sure I wasn't "lying", which by all means he would only hear the information from them that is on my resume. The assistant manager of that store was wonderful. When other sales associates knew Josh was going to be in that store they panicked and were already expecting his unfriendly attitude. He was rude, arrogant, impolite, and he should not have been interviewing people for positions if he could not do his job well to begin with. I think he has great ideas and would have a positive future if he was to work on his communication skills and ego. This interview was handled very unprofessionally and this is not a company I would ever want to work for. read more

Purchaed item in Emerald Square Mall Attleboro MA. I tried to return an item and the clerk gave me a hard time even though the have a return policy taped to the check out counter. Finally was able to return the item for store credit only. Which I quickly bought another item because I am sure they will be closed down after Christmas. Stay away from this store. read more

Outstanding customer service! I was looking for some specific stuffed animals and I posted a comment on their fb page and got a response back right away. They gave me a full run down of the ones they carry - brands, characters, names etc. they then offered to put them on hold for me (even though I can't make it to the store until next week). They were taking the time to answer all my questions at 10:30pm on a Friday night of a holiday weekend. Talk about dedication! Makes me want to give my money to them, not Toys R' Us! If I could give no stars, I would!!! This review is for the store in Salem nh. My husband was shopping for my daughters birthday & came across Josh's toys & games at the rockingham mall. Since our little girl has a serious love for curious George, he bought her a curious George stuffed animal. Little did he know that we actually already had that exact one. I brought the stuffed animal back well BEFORE the return date (printed on the receipt) expired & am told that I can not return stuffed animals (tags still attached)! Does not mention ANYTHING about stuffed animals having a different return policy on the receipt & the sales associate states "well, we can't put everything on the receipt"!!! What?!!???!! How many different policies do you have!!? Ridiculous! I try to support small businesses but Josh's toys & games gives small businesses a bad name! :( read more

Stopped in here for a bit to look around. Did not disappoint. Great selection of puppets and plushies. Shelves were very stocked. A very good size for a toy store in the mall. I'd give it a five if it weren't for one factor. The two workers there at the time, did not seem too friendly. They watched and stared as my friend and I browsed. Avoid this place. I used to shop there quite often- but never again. I purchased a toy for a birthday party and learned (the same day I made the purchase) that the child already had the toy. I couldn't find my receipt, but went back two days later, and spoke to the person who helped me. I understand they cannot give my money back, but they wold not even look at the toy (with all tags attached) or my debit receipt from my bank and offer a merchandise credit. Poor service!! Now I'm out $20. Guess what Josh's you're out a lot more than $20 because I will never shop there again. read more

WAY OVERPRICED. I am a Star Wars collector and Josh's had a neat "Lego Stormtrooper Digital clock". I liked it and on the spur of the moment, purchased it for my collection. When I got home, I checked on Amazon and found the SAME ITEM FOR $10 DOLLARS LESS. Ok, I can see purchasing from the local guy for an extra buck, maybe 2. But not 10. Bought 2 items with a gift reciept, Had been told by two employees that they could be returned. I went back 2 days later with regular and gift receipt and was refused a return. As a former employee I cant stress that this store should be avoided all costs. I thought it was a great idea at first but when it came to the blatant price gouging it became hard to stomach. the only reason they started the store was so they wouldnt lose their lego distribution license. They order so much product and then hold on to it so they can mark it way up and sell it on bricklink.com after its discontinued. the stuff that they carried in the store at first was marked up as to attract specialty buyers and not for regular retail sale. the first black friday they were open they went down to target and bought all the Lego star destroyer sets that were to be in the black friday add then marked them up to $200 then refused to price match Targets black friday price because target had none since they bought them all before hand then that day took in their receipt and got the black friday price difference refunded to them. That was just one of many blatant efforts to make the most off of the customers read more

I have been shopping at this store since the beginning. I love the variety of mentally challenging toys and things that are hard to find now (dripping oil droplet things, kinetic ball stands, water/sand frames, etc). There lego selection is vast and comparable with the Lego store prices.. Can he compete with the big discount stores, no he can't and never will, the Lego store themselves can't beat the sales prices at the big guys, but yet we go to the Lego store don't we. So why wouldn't o support a small business that is paying through the nose for retail space in a mall. I have returned items and had a damaged items once that they went out of their way to find a replacement at another store as the one I purchased it had no more. I expect his prices to be higher. how many of the shopper waste money on K-cups at home or buy a Starbucks coffee everyday. you burn 2-3 times the cost of making a pot of coffee but that's ok. For the savings you blow there you can spend the extra dollars on a toy. read more
