I enjoyed eating there. The friendliness of the family-staff, the ambience of the restaurant and the food. So many restaurants are too noisy to hold a conversation. The vegetable wonton soup was excellent. The honey walnut shrimp made my mouth water. I've found too many restaurants that aren't 5 stars too noisy inside to enjoy a friendly catch up lunch. From a hug from the owner, to an affordable price it's 5 stars to me. Clean, child friendly, efficient staff and I left with 2 to go lunches and leftovers . Give it a try. Had a great dinner with my wife here. The decor was modern and clean, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The hot and sour soup was right on, not too spicy, not too salty. I went there on Friday night with my husband. We ordered calamari and pot stickers for appetizers, cashew nuts shrimp and one more dish I forgot the name with shrimp, lobster, and scallop. The calamari was okay, but nothing special, so as pot stickers. Then they took about 1 hour for the main dishes! I thought it was a joke. About 40 minutes after they brought our appetizers, our waitress passed by (She didn't even stop.) and said, "Your main dishes are coming soon.", but then we still had to wait for another 20 minutes. Meh. I tried this place because I had a 'buy one get one free' coupon. I ordered the walnut chicken, and the tangerine chicken in a combo meal. I announced my coupon at the time of ordering, but they didn't bother to tell me that the cost of the combo would not be included in the coupon, so I had to pay for the combo on top of it. And it ended up being a lot more than I thought the food was worth. $18 bucks for two entrees with a 'buy one get one free' coupon? Not the savings I was looking for. And the quality of food didn't make me feel better about it. The tangerine chicken was on the dry side, not much sauce, and quite blandish. It needs crispy wontons or something for crunch. The walnut shrimp was ok, but they're definitely not 'huge prawns' as the menu promises, so don't fall for that. Overall, not impressed with my visit. I'll be sticking with Mandarin gardens in Sandy which is always reliably fresh and mouthwatering. read more

I was very disappointed in this restaurant. We went for my husband's birthday and the food was sub par at best. The egg drop soup had almost no flavor and the hot and sour soup was way too gelatinous. I had the Beef Sa Te and you could see a layer of grease on top of the sauce. I like Joy Luck, although I almost missed it, as the front door is in the back. Try the appetizer platter. It comes on a flaming device, fun tasty, and the last time I was there, only $10. That was meal enough for me. The regular dishes were yummy and filling. The ambience is relaxed, and the fish tank popular for the kids. My one complaint, and it isn't much of one, is they serve soup by the bowl. In some chinese restaurants, I have been able to order large bowls to share between 2 or 3 people. That would be perfect when I'm alone and in a soup mood. Service is friendly and just right, time-wise. Take out is fast and well packaged. read more

I am really puzzled by all the wonderful reviews on Yelps as well as reviews other sites. Granted the service was not bad, the portion for every dish was large, but they brought my memory of Chinese food back to 1960 or 1970 era. We had seafood soup, deep fried calamari to start the evening. They were average. Then we ordered snow peas with tofu, eggplant with pork, Peking spareribs and Mongolian beef for four of us to share. I was surprised to see all of them came out in the dark brown sauce. When we were walking out at the end of the meal, there were many waiting to be seated. The resturant must have done something right, even though I really could not give any higher than 2 stars from my experience that evening. No way I will go back to try more dishes. Sorry! read more

This place is right off of State St. & 106th, very convenient and easy to get to and plenty of free parking. Minh and his brother are always amazing and treat you better then family. You rarely find genuine service like this anymore these days. We had the happy family, pad Thai and walnut shrimp. The dinner portions are extremely generous and flavorful, and the shrimp in the wallnut dish was large and crispy, also the beef on the happy family was succulent and tender, The broccoli, carrots and corn were cooked just right enough to be flavorful and still retain its color without being undercooked. That's a difficult task to do with vegetables. That's why we will always continue to come back and make this a regular go to spot, especially when we have no time or don't want to cook. We got the classic family dinner which came with Hot & Sour soup (all 4 of us who got it LOVED it) and appetizers (the cheese wontons were Perfect!). You can definitely share entrees so we went family style with pineapple chicken (literally served in a pineapple- so yummy), Kung pao chicken ( crowd favorite) and Mongolian beef (great quality and yummy). Typical Chinese Restaurant. I wanted to try a different food every time I go somewhere new so I tried the strawberry chicken. I thought it might be the same as the orange or lemon chicken and I was right. The taste of the strawberry was there and it wasn't weird at all (like what my husband thought). This is definitely a must try place. I have came here several times and have never been dissapointed with any dish. One helpful tip to know is, if you want it spicy let them know. Even if it shows that it's already spicy, tell them how spicy you like it because it's there are a few different levels you can get. They are also great for large gatherings. read more

Me and a group of four stumbled into Joy Luck by chance. When we walked up to this unassuming restaurant expectations were low but appetites were high. We were seated by the host in a fairly empty place(6 tables seated restaurant could of held 10 times more). Place was clean, menu was well laid out, extensive and affordable. We quickly realized there was only one waiter. Our hopes sank. Mihn was our waiter, he made the night, answered all of our needs, and kept the food coming. Everything was delicious. We later found out that just about everything on the menu from the sauces, to the soups were hand made. I'd definitely return. Do yourself a favor and ask for Mihn. read more
