I made reservations via Yelp for six people for 6:30PM on a Saturday, and while I thought reservations weren't needed because of how empty the restaurant seemingly was, I was quickly proven wrong by how packed it got within the next 30 minutes. I saw there was a whole wait at the front while we were eating! There is a one-time price depending on which soup base you order, and it may cost a bit more if you order a half/half, followed by the set AYCE price per person for hot pot. Soft drinks are free, and it is BYOB! Be careful with ordering the spicy soup base though - the medium spice was wayyyy too hot I recommend having only one person be in charge of ordering with one phone on everyone's behalf, because we ended up accidentally ordering a bit more than we expected since we each used the QR code in our individual phones all at the same time, and we ended up having to cancel the last round when everything came to our table, (which they were super nice about and did not charge us extra!) The portions were not too large, but definitely order in rounds so you don't overwhelm yourself! As dessert, I recommend the fried buns with condensed milk. I generally avoid ordering any mala soup base but tried JoyPot's spicy beef tallow version and thought it was delicious! Be warned - it is very spicy so I recommend ordering a different broth with it. My boyfriend and I also surprisingly loved the tilapia here! The texture was perfect after being cooked in the broth. I really need to stop going to AYCE hotpot restaurants with high hopes. It's not like I order that much more than at normal hotpot venues, and the quality is always a significant downgrade from traditional spots. We ordered the tomato broth, and while I generally like how the flavor from tomato broth infuses all the ingredients, here it was too strong and left an unpleasant aroma. The frozen tofu ("dong tofu") was a weird variety with tiny pieces that I didn't love, and the broccoli didn't taste fresh at all. The udon noodles were fine. Everything felt a bit cheap, like the plastic cups they use for water. We had to make quite an effort to flag any of the servers down. read more

It's our first time at JoyPot. The waiter explained to us on how to order the items for our hot pot. We placed our orders directly on our phones and our orders went directly to the kitchen. It's a very efficient way. I was surprised to see they have shrimp chips at the sauce station. The meats choices were solid and adequate. But we really enjoyed the wide tofu and mushrooms options. They also have a variety of vegetables, noodles and other non-hot pot items available. We couldn't try them all because we were full just from our first round of ordering. They also have many dessert items. We ordered coconut lava, sesame balls (both were our favorite) and pumpkins cakes. We chose two mushroom broth for our soups. One was the regular mushrooms with pork bones broth and the other was mushrooms non- pork bones version. Both were very flavorful. It's a.good values meals especially when the price includes Sprite or Coke and desserts. We enjoyed our experience there. We went there on a Tuesday night so it wasn't too crowded. What a fun hot pot spot! Met a friend here as it was close to the 7 train stop for her, and she was really craving hot pot. Now do I suggest doing hot pot in the summer heat...maybe next time we will wait for a cold winter night. I mean, I'm not sure if the sweats came from the heat or the meats but either way we enjoyed ourselves. The spot is smaller than most and was open on a Tuesday. I actually made a reservation online but really didn't need it. When we walked in, we were able to pick any table that was free. There was one other small party there enjoying a meal as we walked in to embark on our hot pot adventure. AYCE dinner for $40 plus the additionally one time broth charge...done deal! We went with the mushroom and pork feet (we did the two broth option which is definitely the way to go). I thought the pork broth would be a clear front runner but the mushroom was where it was at. They put dates in the mushroom broth which gave it a nice touch. Both were super delicious and by the end we just were dumping in everything to whatever side and grabbed anything we could until we couldn't fit anymore in our stomachs. Not to be overlooked is their sauce bar. Smaller than others I've seen, but they had all the essentials. Everyone there was super nice, very helpful when explaining cooking times and everything came out super fast. Delicious ayce hotpot with great service and plenty of space! It's not as good as flushings and has more limited options, but that's to be expected and a great alternative when flushings is too far. They have a decent variety of seafood, veggies, broth options, meat, sauces, and dessert. The service was extremely friendly and they bring out the ingredients promptly. Great small and casual AYCE hot pot spot in LIC! I came here one evening and fortunately, there was no wait (although I've heard that other times it may get packed, so book a reservation if you can). The inside of the restaurant is pretty small compared to other hot pot spots, but there's definitely a good amount of seating. When I went, I got their tomato broth and their chicken broth (which were both pretty solid). They also have a sauce bar that is pretty standard, with some small appetizers. I was a bit confused how it works, but you have to order from their qr code. Once you open up their menu on your device, everyone at your table can see what ingredients that you decide on. It's very convenient. They have different types of soup bases which they charge for as well. If you want to do a double pot they charge for that as well. I felt nickle and dimed for the soup bases. The selection is extensive and up to par with other hot pot places I've been to. The people talk very minimal to you - everything is ordered via your phone, which is fine. I have the same complaint as another reviewer - it's an all you can eat hot pot spot but the soup base is a separate charge (?) make that make sense!! The sauce bar is smaller than others I've been to. It had the general ingredients one would need tho, although I've been to several other hot pot places that have some helpful guides/recipes for sauce recommendations. They have a 2 hour limit, which is doable but can go by quickly! We got the pork foot mild broth and the spicy beef broth split. The mild was great, very neutral but the spicy beef was off the charts spicy. So many chili peppers!! They have a ton of ingredients and everything comes out pretty quickly. Why they didn't get 5-stars: The spicy broth is so over the top it was hard to get through. Our orders were delivered relatively quickly, and the staff was very good about regularly clearing empty plates and refilling our waters. However, our server would almost slam plates down very loudly on our table every time when delivering our orders, which kind of put me off. I do appreciate the QR code self-ordering system - it felt very seamless, and I liked that we had the flexibility to place additional orders whenever we wanted. The space itself felt smaller than your typical hot pot joint, but there was still a good number of tables with adequate space in between. The price is definitely on the higher end. They market the standard AYCE price as $40, but you also have to pay an additional $12-$19 for the soup base depending on which one you choose. The staff mostly speaks mandarin and probably 1 or 2 staff speaks English, but it seems like they were around. Now back to the food lol...... The soup broth was tasty but the choices for hot pot /sauces was ok. We ordered a good amount of items but most of them came out different from what i ordered. My boyfriend and I were looking for a restaurant in LIC and found this new hotpot place so we decided to try it out. We came here at around 8:30 on a Wednesday and it wasn't crowded at all and only 2 other tables were taken. The restaurant was pretty small comparing to other hotpot places that I have been to and didn't have that many tables so I would probably recommend to reserve a table if you're coming for dinner during the weekend. We got seated right away and we were told to order with a QR code. The ordering was seamless and easy and we ordered the half and half soup base and got the spicy beef tallow and pork bone soup. The spicy broth tasted great and authentic but it did get spicy after a while so we scooped out some of the chili. The pork bone broth tasted pretty good but tasted more mushroomy than what I expected from a bone broth. We also ordered beef, lamb, pork, veggies and some noodles. My favorite meat was the sliced pork, which was very tender. I also like how they had a lot of mushroom choices. While the food quality was good, I think the portioning of food could've been improved. They gave us a lot of udon and watercress and it was just too much for two people and we ended up not being able to finish the food. Overall, a pretty good experience. Servers were very friendly and they were very attentive throughout our entire meal. Food was also great but it was pricy. $40 per person for dinner for hotpot is already pretty expensive comparing to other AYCE and on top of that we also had to pay for the broth, which is also unusual for AYCE. Just like how other reviews had mentioned, the ambiance was lacking and the restaurant just looked a bit sad. While the food quality was good, I don't think the variety of food that it offers and the restaurant's ambiance justify the price. Food was fantastic, all super fresh and delicious as were both the broths I ordered. I'm very glad I took the servers advice and went for medium spicy as it was hot to begin with and only got hotter as time went on and the chillies released their heat into the broth.
