    Instruction to prep & eat claypot rice

    Over the weekend, drive past by the restaurant and saw a long line. Out of curiosity I decided to come on a weekday to try their claypot rice. Upon entry, you stop at the cashier/hostess where you place your food order, pay & then sit at a table with your assigned number tag. Is a pretty simple menu with claypot rice choices à la carte or in combo. It's a no tip policy and not a place to linger. The place is not large, with simple picto decor describing the fresh ingredients used in rice. Claypot rice alone ranges from $15-25 pending on the topping you choose. Once we seat, drop off your bag, take off your jacket and go to the self serve station to get pickled radishes that will go wonderfully with the claypot rice and cup of water. They do have a free drink options but very limited. We decided to order mushroom chicken claypot rice & Chinese sausage special claypot rice. Since everything is prepared as ordered be ready to wait 10-20 min. As soon as the rice arrived, we poured in the soy sauce in a jar in the table, hear the sizzle, mix & enjoy. It was nicely done though nothing to brag about. It would be a place where I have to be in the mood for this to stop in.

    We came at opening and snagged a table without having to wait. Offering quick service, you have to order and pay first at the front. Overall, taste is what you'd expect. But if you're looking for that nice crispy rice that comes with the claypot rice experience, I will say it's a bit inconsistent depending on the toppings in your bowl.

    We ordered two combos (each comes with soup + veggie): Premium Chinese Sausage Claypot The Chinese sausage leaned noticeably sweet, which I enjoyed. The preserved pork belly was sliced very thin, though some pieces still had cartilage. Overall, it was solid. Chicken & Mushroom Claypot The chicken pieces were quite large (all dark meat), making it very juicy. However, the mushrooms had an extremely strong, pungent flavor -- I suspect they used rehydrated dried shiitake. It was a bit overwhelming for me. Overall, just okay. Snow Pear & Pig Soup This was easily the star of the meal. Sweet, comforting, and surprisingly delicious. It even had snow fungus in it. Honestly, it could pass as a dessert -- one of the best soups I've had in a while (not including my parent homemade soup) Mushroom Pork Rib Soup Not bad at all. Solid flavor and packed with plenty of pork ribs for the portion size. Chinese Broccoli & Blanched Lettuce Pretty basic veggies. Nice that they come with the combo, but you probably don't need to order them separately since the claypot rice already includes Shanghai bok choy. Chilled Okra This was fine if you like okra. They comped it because our food took over 30 minutes. Side note: Since they're brand new, patience is key. They had enough staff, but the servers were walking around asking customers for their table numbers -- even though the restaurant is small. A bit chaotic, but understandable for a new place. Final thoughts: The claypots needed a bit more time on the heat -- there was zero crispy rice at the bottom, which is honestly the best part of claypot rice. The rice was fine, it wasn't mushy, but it didn't have much flavor either. The soy sauce was doing a lot of heavy lifting to hold everything together. Would I go back? Yes, but not anytime soon. There's definite potential here once they smooth out the kinks

    The food was great and the interior was clean, but they really need to improve the ordering and dining experience. We arrived 10 minutes before they opened in a Saturday. Getting seated took a while since some guests don't know how to order on their phones, so they have to order and pay at the counter before they are seated at a table. The people who know how to order on their phones using a QR code are left waiting until they are seated. They really need to have a better order management system. The claypots took 20 minutes to arrive. Guests got their food out of order, even if they ordered the same thing. Also, my claypot arrived 10 minutes after my friends' claypot. I really think the dining experience can be improved overall. Thankfully, the food was good and fresh. The mushroom pork soup tastes just like the one my mom makes. You also get a LOT of rice, so no complaints there. Just go when they are not that busy if you don't want to deal with the long wait time.

    Came around 2pm on a Sunday and waited about 20 minutes. There's no real waiting area, so be prepared to stand until your turn. The ordering process is a bit different: you order and pay first when you reach the front, then get seated. Food takes about 10-15 minutes to come out, which is pretty reasonable considering everything is made fresh in claypots. The combo is a great deal--it comes with your choice of claypot rice, a lemon tea or soup, and a veggie side. The space itself is pretty small and simple, and interestingly, there's no tipping expected. Food-wise, the signature claypot rice was definitely the standout--super fragrant with that classic crispy rice at the bottom. I love the mini shovel spoon to scrape it up. Also tried the eggplant rice, which was flavorful and well-cooked. Overall, really tasty and worth checking out if you're in the area but just be ready for a bit of a wait and a tight space.

    My friend and I happened to walk past this place on our way to TP Tea, and we saw a line outside and immediately got curious. I looked it up and saw that it was a new restaurant, and it looked so good! My quickly switched our lunch plans, and I got in line while my friend waited for our bubble tea. The line moved pretty quick actually! We got the premium chinese sausage combo and the braised eggplant combo with the snow pear & fig soup, mushroom pork rib soup, blanched lettuce, and chinese broccoli. The chicken was so tender, and the chinese sausage added a nice sweetness. I didn't expect to, but I actually liked the eggplant claypot rice more. It had a nice sauce to it already with a good amount of ground meat. The snow pear soup wasn't my favorite. It tasted like a light dessert soup. The mushroom pork one was much better. Overall, this was such a good find! I would definitely come back here.

    Came here for the first time today with my mom. It's a small space and was very cramped and crowded, no real waiting area. But the line seemed to move quickly, and we waited around 20 minutes on a Sunday evening. You sit and then make your order and pay using a QR code, and the servers then bring the food to you. We ordered the kelp salad (which really was just seaweed salad), the signature claypot rice (which was delicious! With a little sauce, there was just enough toppings, bok choy, and the rice was perfectly chewy and crispy on the bottom). We also got the mushroom and snow pear soup, both of which were tasty. The snow pear soup is mild and full of dates, pear, snow fungus and longan. The fried pork was crispy and a relatively small portion. We didn't get to try the dessert today, and they also ran out of the Chinese broccoli and lettuce. We would definitely come back!

    The waiting area was cramped during busier times and queueing for a table next to dining patrons felt a little awkward. The operations could use some work, but overall was streamlined as you pay and order prior to sitting. The clay pots were similar aside from the components; the spare ribs were probably best while the chicken was texturally rubbery and the abalone was a little dry. The bottom rice crust had the requisite crispness. Overall decent and serviceable.

    Opens at 11 am. It is best to get there 5 mins before they open. It gets packed easily. 2 ways to order your meal are with a QR code on the table or from the waiters, and they will bring it over to you once it's ready. I got their Signature claypot, which had one of everything--chicken, chinese sausage, chinese pork belly, pork ribs, salted egg yolk] in it. It's also self-service on water and some side dishes like their pickled vegetables. But the downside about it was there wasn't any crispy rice on the bottom of the pot, and it's a bit pricier than other places too

    A newly opened clay pot spot in Flushing and it's no tip??? Of course I had to try. I was a bit intimidated by the line but honestly it goes really fast. The line basically is just to order and pay and then you get to get seated right away. They're able to seat 40 people per hour so the turnaround is quite fast. The space itself is quite small and the tables are squished next to each other so it may not be the most comfortable. We ordered two clay pots to split between the two of us. The flavor of the meat and eel was delicious. I also loved how silky the chicken was. Unpopular opinion, but I actually don't prefer the bottom of the clay pot, but I do have to say they had a wonderfully crispy bottom. We also got the fried pork and that was perfectly crispy and seasoned. I definitely will be back.

    This is a busy shop on the corner of Prince and 36. The place is packed during dinner hours into the night. You have to wait to order your takeout. If you want to eat in, you can order first then look for a seat or order at the table. They has a good selection of clay pots u can order. The signature dish is chicken and sausage. We decided to try the chicken and mushrooms, black pepper and beef (wagyu). You can order your clay pot with veggies and or a drink. There is a whole list of add ons. Note- make sure your clay pot has all the ingredients listed. My beef was bland and no black peppers. That was very disappointing!!!! As extras they have water hot or cold, marinated radish and carrots, spices, extra rice. The place was nicely decorated with cage covered lights and a big screen tv displaying the food they make. There was a counter one can sit at or a bunch or tables for 2 - 4. No really big tables.

    it is hard to accommodate a huge party but it was doable. we ordered a great amount of dishes, honestly they looked the same except the wagyu beef that we ordered. wasnt much taste to it if you didnt use the soy sauce. we got there around 6 and they said they ran out of the combo, we were looking forward to the combo as it comes with the soup and veggies. then an hour or so later, we noticed someone else had the soup so we decided to ask again if the combo was back. so they knew we were trying to order the combo but would be nice if they tell us they made more soup or could even tell us that they will be making more soup. after 5 pots later, we were still hungry so we decided to order the combo. the soup was actually pretty good, you can taste the ginger in it. the claypot was definitely not filling so if you have a large party you might have to order more than one per person. we went when it was probably the opening so they have a line, but it isnt a wow we might have it place.

The beef chow fun was also really good and beef was nice and tender. The xiao long baos were excellent and is comparable to any place in California like DTF. Nice and juicy and great with some ginger, soy sauce, and spicy chili. Friendly service and food comes out pretty quickly. Credit card is accepted. Bathroom was also very clean, which is sometimes rare in some Chinese restaurants I have been to. If you're looking for a good Chinese meal, stop here when you're in the Chelsea area.

The edamame, on the other hand, had way too much when it should have almost none. I don't know if it was excess salt, MSG or something else, but not good. I should have sent them back. I hope this was just an off night for the kitchen.

It was clear they somehow lost track of us as she had him repeatedly spell our (not unusual) name. Anyway, after that, within 10 minutes after that we were taken downstairs to our seats (but not before standing awkwardly in the large dining area near packed tables waiting while our table was cleaned). Server with a heavy accent was kind and mostly helpful so none of this is on him. The busser who managed to spill half a pitcher of cold water on my husband's back, soaking his shirt and jacket and barely apologizing, is a whole other story. We managed to get a glass of his mediocre Cabernet comped for the experience. If I sound annoyed, I guess I still am. I had high hopes for a fun and tasty experience in a cool part of the city and it just wasn't.

Onto the mains and I ventured towards their Spicy Drunken Noodle (my go-to whenever I'm hitting a Thai restaurant on my home turf) and... yeah, you probably guessed it - incredible. Not the biggest portion but they made every single component sing with flavor. With so much going on - of course I needed to indulge with another drink (hey, I wasn't driving!). There were six of us, it came to about $100 a person... welcome to NYC. But we did get a wide selection of plates/food and those two drinks accounted for about $40 of my tab. I recommend skipping this restaurant.

I was told that it isn't always open, but if it was, I could certainly have a table there. When we arrived on the night of our dinner, I asked about the back room and was told that it was closed. And indeed, there was a rope up separating it from the front dining room. There was a table of people sitting there, but I was told that was management having a meeting. I asked when the room might be opened because we were willing to wait. I was told that there was no way for them to know. The front room was already full, by the way, except for the table that we seated at. Within 10 minutes, the back room opened and people started to go in. When I asked about this, I was told that it was a private party. About a half hour later I got up to use the restroom and had a look in the back. They were people seated at tables all around the room. It was obvious that none of them knew each other. It wasn't a private party. I didn't bother to ask about this because at that point appetizers had arrived and it was too late to move to another table. I was very baffled by the staff's reluctance to seat us at a requested table, which would've been very easy to do. As a result, I don't think I'll be coming back to Chi or recommending it to friends. I wrote to them about the experience, hoping for a possible explanation. Over a week has gone by and I've gotten no response. I'm done with these folks.
