This restaurant has been here forever, but for some reason, never tried it until now. This place is on Broadway a little bit of ways from the main part of Elmhurst with a parking lot we ordered five dishes and every single one of them was pretty tasty. A braised pork over rice was very tender, and the portion size was more than fair for the price. The intestines were done well without any of that residual winkings that may happen if they don't clean it thoroughly. Beef noodle soup was a ginormous, and my kid destroyed it. The chicken we ordered was very tender and butchered expertly so that you can easily eat around the bones. We were asked to share a table since they were only three of us and we shared it with another party of four and it was completely fine. He went at a very busy dinner hour on a weekend so expect there to be a wait unless you're willing to split a table.

Taiwanese Gourmet is everything to me. Elmhurst favorite for multiple reasons. Cash only with amazing food. Can't go wrong with any dish, but I will always glaze and do tricks for the Crispy Pork Chop dish. Crispy Fried Chicken is delicious as well with the botanical aromas of chives and basil. Fly's Head is a staple. On busy days, service can be a little slow but this place is so popular ... what do you expect?! However, the service is always kind. Always willing to help however they can, whether it's seating or questions about the menu or directions to the bathroom. Taiwanese Gourmet is warm and inviting to those with empty stomachs and full hearts, at times it feels like home.

Another good meal with friendly service. Air conditioning was super on the hot day - full blast to stay comfortable while eating.

After come here many times for over 15 years I have my favorite dishes! Oyster pancake- definitely a delicious starter dish. Fly Head- (just fun to order because of the name) A standard dish of long beans and grounded pork and spices. Three cup chicken- savery chicken in brown gravy five-spice sauce. Definitely get a bowl of rice. Watercress- veggies Chicken with ginger soup- healthy chicken soup with guji berries and Chinese dates. A healthy and traditional soup (too much work to make at home). Small limited parking spots in the back but usually street parking available on the street.

Amazing oyster omelette and sliced braised pork over rice. Very good beef noodles but wish we had gotten it with udon instead. Would probably skip the three cup chicken next time.

Came in with a group of about 7 people on a recent Saturday morning, got seated right away with hot tea, waters and a bowl of pickled radish. Cash only! Service was quick and easy. Lots of seating in the dining room. Sampled these dishes with a few bowls of rice: - Fly's Head: super garlicy, well balanced with the fatty pork. Had a great texture from the crisp chives. - Three Cup Chicken: Bones throughout this dish, but that's a good thing. Juicy chicken covered in umami sauce. The portion is good for 2-3 people. - Ma Po tofu: Full of szechuan and warm spices and perfectly silky tofu. Would definitely go back to try more adventurous dishes and the friend pork chops.

Absolutely one of the best Taiwanese restaurants anywhere in NY and has been open for a long long time. There's lots of traditional Taiwanese food here that you won't even find at other Taiwanese restaurants. The three cup stinky tofu is a must have but I have nothing but good things to say about the other dishes on the menu. The celery and tofu is great, as is the sha cha veggie dish. The family lunch special is a great deal. Service is good and the food comes out very quickly. The parking lot gets crowded around noon on the weekend and the restaurant gets full quickly as well. I recommend going around opening on weekends.

Not bad and inexpensive. I tried a bit of the century egg and tofu, mixed vegetables with tofu, and the chive omelette. The omelette was hearty, but definitely on the oily side. The mixed vegetables were generally pretty bland, but I asked for some fresh chili sauce which helped a bit. The server was mostly helpful at pointing out some of the vegetarian dishes, but didn't quite call out that the century egg dish was topped with bonito flakes. I'm glad I caught that one myself. Everything plus two bowls of rice came to $47 after tip for an enormous amount of food. It's cash only.

I come here with my friends and family a lot because the prices are reasonable and it is pretty close to me. I always get a couple of different things to try each time but I think my overall favorites so far are the crispy intestines, the beef egg and tomato, the pork buns and the stir fried liver. That being said, I have yet to order something in the menu that I absolutely hate but that gives me a lot of confidence to sometime to venture out to other items in their menu. The staff is also always super sweet and the food comes out very quickly. The homely vibes also make this place a place you want to keep returning to. I highly recommend coming with big parties so that you can try a bunch of their menu items!

Went here with some family for dinner on a weeknight and it was surprisingly packed. We parked on the street but later found out that there was a parking lot in the rear, which is a rarity for NYC. Once seated we were assisted super quickly, Asian style. We ordered a handful of things: crispy chicken, flys head, Taiwanese style oil noodles, oyster pancake, and short ribs. The favorites were definitely the crispy chicken and flys head. Everything was pretty good too. The ribs were not bad, but nothing to rave about. I would come back and try the other dishes, everything on the menu seemed really good.

At the recommendation of a longtime customer inside the restaurant, I had the Pork Chops with Dried Tofu and Celery over white rice for lunch. It was delicious. Wait time was only 10 minutes, and the cashier, doing double duty as a waitress, took my order and served me. The next time I come here, I will have the Three Cup Chicken. A few customers told me that that is a specialty rarely found in Taiwanese restaurants. Google says it is named after the three main ingredients: one cup each of soy sauce, rice wine and sesame oil. Thanks to my Yelp Elite friend Andie for recommending this place. The restaurant was fairly clean, and there were plenty of tables to eat, so this is good for dining in groups. Great authentic Taiwanese food, quick to be seated and the food was great portions at a good price. Only thing is that it was cash only so make sure to bring cash!! We got the basil clams, three cup chicken, loofah w shrimp, stinky tofu, celery bean curd stir fry with beef and white rice! Everything was so perfectly flavored and paired well with the rice and tea. It's a bit chaotic in there but definitely felt homey.

Great food and service. Love the seasoning and flavoring of the fried pork chops. The layout of the restaurant is great. The food was exceptional and the service was great!

The restaurant is a few blocks from the main street of Steinway so it'll take a bit of searching. Going inside, the area is rather abstract. Pink flower wallpaper on one end and dry wall on the other, it's kinda off-putting but I didn't come here for the atmosphere anyway. Service was lukewarm, I got my order in but the two workers inside weren't too receptive and the menu itself is kinda barebones with most of their food being a bit more than I would like to pay for so I just settled on one order of Singapore Mei Fun. After waiting 10 minutes for my food to arrive, the Singapore noodles which are usually spicy were kinda salty but it was nothing a bit of duck sauce wouldn't fix. This one order cost $17 while not the worst Singapore Mei Fun...well technically it is, even though it's not horrible but I've had much better from other places for a stable price of $12. Yeah, a rather disappointing visit. Not the worst I've ever had but could be so much better.

I got the wonton soup and pork juicy buns. The soup was different from other wonton soups with the addition of cilantro and some nice balancing flavors for the salt, and the juicy buns were your classic soup dumplings with a very nice rich sauce to dip in. The dandan noodles my friend ordered were maybe my favorite, they were the perfect level of spicy and so flavorful without being overwhelming. I'd go back just for my own plate of those. The service was quite fast, and it's a cute little shop that feels like a small town Chinese restaurant. Very reasonably priced as well. Some of my favorite Chinese food I've found outside of Lower Manhattan !

Our second time there, we had the "Night Market Chow Fun" and the "Chongqing Braised Beef." Both were excellent! Probably my favorite Chow fun now and the Chongqing braised beef was so tender and had all the szechuan tingly spices that open up your taste buds and sensories. We LOVED both dishes. It had the 3 chili pepper sign and the server warned us that it was very spicy, and IT WAS -- in all the good ways. May not be for the faint, though, so be careful. Not sure if they can adjust the spiciness.
