Best thing to get is definitely the spare ribs. We ordered delivery several dishes through Uber Eats. I was worried if this restaurant would skim us on the ribs. But it was so juicy and tasty. We got the small order which is 6 ribs. Also got a crispy beef, shrimp with sichuan sauce (which was horrible, don't ever get! Filled with lettuce) and Chinese broccoli (delicious!) and because we ordered above a certain amount Uber Eats gave us extra peanut noodles dish. Overall highly recommend for the ribs! Attentive staff for a take out order. Answered questions and online system was seamless and clear. Ordered the sesame chicken, the bbq pork ribs and egg flower soup. 10/8/25 We were in the neighborhood for an appointment and decided to stop for lunch. BBQ Ribs are delicious, most Chinese restaurant makes them but are usually tough but these were tender and so flavorful. I wish they were near home hehehe. Peking Duck, while it was super crispy outside and tender inside it was not seasoned. Without the hoisin sauce it would have been a waste of money... This restaurant feels very homey. Cozy. It reminds me of a sit down Chinese spot in Park Slope I loved as a child that is no more. The chicken broccoli was amazing. So my beloved, who is a Michelin Star trained chef who has mentored with Michel Guerard, Alain Senderens, Pierre Troisgros, Roger Verge, Anne Willan and Barbara Tropp decided to surprise me for for Valentine's Day. I mention this not to impress anybody, but rather to impress upon you that one can can tell a lot as my father would say, "that one can tell how good the cook is by the food they make." That in mind, I want to bring up the woman that my beloved trained with as a mentor, Barbara Tropp --- please look her up n Wikipedia that says that she is the one that introduced Asian cuisine to the Americas. Thus we ordered from this restaurant something that is really hard to make, which is a Chilean Seabass which is crispy and has its own sauce along with a Peking duck which also is difficult to make. And of course we ordered egg drop soup and I have to tell you when I saw how the egg drop soup was not full of yolk and yellow, I realized this place was truly authentic. The best way to describe this place is that my beloved echoed what her mentor would say of how Asian cuisine is so amazing and magnificent. I was picturing fall off the bone ribs with a tasty sauce and I didn't get any of that. The meat was dry and most definitely not the worth the price. I also got the pig heaven chicken and was very throw off by the weird aluminum foil presentation and the mix of half onion half chicken in the dish. It was a glorified kung pao chicken. Good neighborhood spot for Chinese in UES Craving Chinese food in the UES? This place will scratch that itch. Their prices aren't actually too different from takeout places nearby even though this spot is an actual restaurant. They're supposedly really good for their ribs. As a Chinese person who had a craving for Beef Chow Fun and was far from Chinatown/Queens I opted to try it out here and it actually wasn't bad. Have come back more than a few times, and it def scratches the itch of authentic Chinese food though it is def UES prices; also the beef chow fun was better the second time around - so consistency maybe could use some work but I now think of this place if I'm wanting Chinese food in this neighborhood. In search of good Chinese food in UES, this was next on my list. I've read about the spare ribs and the glowing reviews so I was optimistic. Boy, was I wrong. The service was terrible, to start. Perhaps due to the low morale of an empty place, the waitress AND waiter were moody and pissy. Ambience score is zero. Simple questions were met with passive aggressiveness. That's fine. No big deal. You don't go to Chinese restaurant for the service anyway. Price was way way overpriced. Dim sum dishes were in the teens compared to other spots in UES at the 8-9$ range. I wasn't expecting Chinatown prices (6-7$) but $11-12$ for some dumplings can only fool the non-authentic diners who find the existence of dim sum to be a victory within itself. Spareribs for $30$. Bruh... c'mon now. Food -- for me, terrible service and overpricing can be overlooked if you can back it up with good food. Unfortunately, food is not authentic and MSGed up to wazoo to fool unsuspecting UES diners. I drank 4 glasses of water and still feel thirsty afterwards. The vegetable dish was oily and too heavily seasoned and salty. The spareribs were over sauced and burnt in places so was a bit tough and inconsistent. The other dishes were uninspiring and just plain meh... At the end, they impatiently ushered us out of an empty restaurant and stood over you while you tipped. The other waiter quickly asked about how much I tipped (15% even when it sucked). I knew because I speak the language! I go out of my way to not leave a bad review but I feel like I need to warn other UES diners so they don't make the same mistake. I recognize the prior reviews were before the ownership change. An upper east side gem, for years I have walked past and today I'm mad today is my first time trying it. I had the sesame chicken it was really fresh and tasty. My only complaint is their plum sauce on the side it's kinda watery in my opinion in comparison to designer Chinese spots but this ain't designer but it'll do the job the closest thing you'll get to old school New York take out. Short Review: As per essentially every other person reviewing this place, order the Spare Ribs. They are outstanding and well known for a very good reason. I went here with one of much larger groups a while back. We were pleasantly surprised judging originally by the location and we can see why they've been open for so long. The food here is a mix of Cantonese and Szechuan with I think the Siu Mei and Szechuan being the best parts. The wall has thanks (of course on pig signs) from various customers with my favorite one being someone who wrote Kosher for Passover and the ambiance in general was more retro. As there is no direct menu online for some reason, I won't be listing my usual prices in parentheses. I don't remember getting anything to drink outside of water and maybe tea though some others got beer and someone got wine I believe. Staff/service was friendly. We of course first got the BBQ Spare Ribs. These aren't that normal spare ribs you find in your average Chinese American spot but massive meaty pieces. There was a good mix of fat to meat and the ribs were fall off the bone tender and the sauce wasn't as overly sweet as other places. This was the best dish of the night and I can see why they've been famous for them. We also got some Peking Duck as this is one of the many places our host has gone to in order to find the best Peking Duck in the city. The meat was pretty tasty though not as tender/flavorful as some other spots. The skin had a good amount of crisp and was the best part of it and the pancakes were good and thin. It was fine in short though I've had better. From the Szechuan side, we got the Chong Qing Spicy Diced Chicken/Laziji. Surprisingly amount of mala spice for an Upper East Side spot and the chicken wasn't overly fried. Very solid version and better than some primarily Szechuan spots I've been to. Good stuff. Also from the Szechuan side was the Hotpot Beef Fillets With Mixed Vegetables. This was also solid in terms of spice though the beef was a bit tough with my favorite part actually being the potatoes which were covered in said spice and the crunchy lotus root. From the Cantonese side, the Eggplant With Chicken In Garlic Sauce was solid. Well cooked eggplant though there could have been a bit more diced chicken and the garlic sauce was well flavored. The Crispy Whole Sea Bass With Chef Special Sauce was the weakest dish by a fair bit. The fish was meaty and not too fried but the special sauce was way too sweet and too thickened with cornstarch. The portion size was fine but I wouldn't really recommend much. Overall the food here was solid. If you're looking for BBQ spare ribs and also some pretty solid Szechuan food, it's kind of hard to find a better one especially around that area. I would definitely go back. Low 4 though approaching higher because of the area. read more

Came here to try their soup dumplings, but we left disappointed and hungry. We noticed a lot of odd things: 1. They never offered us chopsticks to eat the soup dumplings with - only forks and knives were set on the table. We had to ask for chopsticks and they gave us disposable wooden chopsticks used for their takeout orders. 2. Our order came SUPER fast within 5 minutes. The dumplings were lukewarm and not steaming. 3. Some of the dumplings were already popped so they did not have soup in them. 4. The skin is on the thicker side. The broth was not memorable. 5. It was the first time I did not see a Chinese restaurant put ginger in the vinegar sauce. The sauce itself was not vinegary at all - just tasted more like soy sauce. 6. Price is definitely on the higher end compared to other Chinese restaurants nearby. I think I'm here for my annual review to go along with my growing collection of pictures of their ribs but I have to communicate that you cannot go wrong with Pig Heaven. The service is still efficient and accommodating. The ribs are definitely still ribbing, and I also have to implore you to try something different on the menu along with the ribs when you go. I called last night to order my favorite dish & was told they took it OFF THE MENU & we not able to make it for me . The person on the phone even asked the manager who refused to make it for us .
