Joy's Grill & Burger House became a Friday Night Date Night destination during my birthmonth after I spotted them on social media. I've driven by Joy's a million times and somehow never noticed it before. It's tucked into a busy strip mall and easy to miss if you're not specifically looking for it. Spoiler alert: you should be looking for it. My quest for the evening included both a burger and a chili dog, because they both looked amazing and I wanted the full Joy's experience. My adventure buddy and I arrived around 5pm and I was honestly surprised to see only one other person inside when we walked in. We grabbed a booth by the front door and looked over the menu again to finalize our plan. Since it was our first visit, we decided to order a few things and split them so we could try more. We ordered the loaded chili dog topped with chili, cheese, onions, and mustard ($5.25) and one of the Big Block Burgers -- specifically the Joy's Burger -- which came with grilled onions and mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, LA sauce, Swiss cheese, and fresh cut fries ($12.99). Naturally we added bacon for an extra $0.99 because that felt like the right decision. We also each grabbed a Diet Pepsi (to maintain some illusion of balance) for $2.50 each. Our total came to $25.69 before tip, which felt like a pretty solid deal for a two-person Friday night dinner adventure. The setup at Joy's has a classic old-school diner feel. The grill sits right behind the seating counter so you can watch your food being made, and they mix milkshakes right out front as well. The place is simple and no-frills -- and in my experience, those "keep it simple and do it well" places are often the real heavy hitters. The chili dog came out first, and the first thing I noticed was that this thing was HEAVY. This wasn't your typical skinny hot dog -- it was a full ¼-pound dog absolutely loaded with chili. The flavor reminded me of a Cincinnati-style chili dog and it was really good. The chili was flavorful instead of just decorative, the mustard and onions were balanced perfectly, and the bun did its job without getting in the way. As someone who takes chili dogs very seriously, I have to give Joy's credit for delivering a straightforward, perfectly executed chili dog. Next came the burger and fresh cut fries, and when I say this burger was big, I mean BIG. Two patties tall with all the toppings stacked high. We sliced it in half and immediately dug in. The bacon was perfectly crisp, the mushrooms and Swiss were generous, and the whole thing just tasted like a real, proper burger. Not a chain burger that started life frozen and tastes like it could have been reheated in my microwave at home. This was the kind of burger you picture when you say you're craving a burger. The fries were exactly what you want from fresh-cut fries -- the smaller ones nice and crispy, and the bigger ones crispy on the outside with that soft, fluffy inside. Splitting the chili dog and burger turned out to be the right call. It would have been easy to eat everything solo, but my stomach probably would not have forgiven me later. Our server was super friendly and attentive throughout the visit. While we were there, a few more people came in to eat, but overall it felt relaxed and easy for a Friday evening. Parking is free since Joy's sits in a strip mall, but it can be a little tight because there are several other popular businesses nearby. We were able to find a spot without trouble, but I could see it getting tricky during busier times. If you're looking for solid burgers, legit chili dogs, and an old-school diner vibe, Joy's Grill & Burger House is absolutely worth seeking out -- especially if you're like me and always on the lookout for your next great burger or chili dog adventure. read more

Sad, tasteless, had the appearance, texture, and, zero flavored patty. Fries were decent, old fashion without all the flour "crap" additive on them. Not bad fore a cheap meal but not filling for wine who's hungry amend definitely not suitable for a "man size" burger. And on the Really sad side about this place is that they have no shame on charging the customers $1.00 for a pickle. Not saying that you're going to get a big pickle, just some pickle slices for the burger, but for an ext4a $1.00. Never going back, will warn others, and generally stay away from businesses that are CHEAP. First Impressions! Nice little Burger Joint with a pretty good sandwich menu that includes baskets . Comfortable booths line the windows or a couple of small tables & counter seating is available. My wife ordered the Meltdowns 10 oz. Fresh patty melt topped with grilled onions and swiss cheese on grilled rye bread. I ordered the Road House 10 oz. Fresh burger topped with bacon, fried egg, lettuce, tomato, onions, American cheese, and LA sauce. Melissa was terrific warm and welcoming very efficient and attentive. It's hard to get fried chicken around here, so when their menu said they had the best, I had to order a breast and a leg w/ potato wedges. They up charged me for the leg, over a wing ... $2 ... I was like, OK, it's THE BEST. Well, it wasn't the best ... parts were tiny and not really tasty. The wedges were bland and out of a bag/box. My son got the Roadhouse Burger w/ fresh fries ... it was monstrous and looked amazing. Only knock, he ordered it "medium rare" and there was no pink. Five stars for the food. Four stars for the service. They just couldn't keep up with the demand the two times I've eaten there. The first time I stopped in with my son. We sat at the counter and it while it took a while to get our food, we managed to entertain ourselves watching them cook. I ordered a 10 oz. Louisiana Burger: Fresh burger, blacked (Cajun style) and topped with bacon and bleu cheese crumbles on a grilled bun with lettuce, tomato, onion, LA sauce and a Cajun mayo aioli. It was freaking amazing. My son ordered the 10 oz. Downtown Burger: Fresh burger topped with mac and cheese, bacon, and American cheese on a grilled bun with la sauce and a thick slice of tomato.azing. Each burger was between $14 and $15 and were on their "Big Block Burger" options. The fries were about $4.50 and were really good boardwalk type fries. Plenty for two people to eat. The second time we ate there, we had similar food. Everyone liked their meals. I highly highly highly recommend eating here. It's now one of my two favorite burger shops in the area. Stopped by Joy's Grill & Burger House while looking for a lunch spot on Yelp, and wow, I'm so glad we did. The place is clean and simple, and when the food is this good, fancy décor really isn't needed. We were greeted warmly by Autume as soon as we walked in. It's self-seating, with booth and counter seating available, and free parking is available, which is always a plus. Melissa took great care of us, upbeat, cheerful, and even singing Christmas carols while making sure every customer was happy. We ordered the burger and fried chicken based on Melissa's recommendation, and oh boy, it was soooooo good. Brenda, the cook, definitely knows what she is doing. The owner buys whole chickens, cuts and marinates them in a house seasoning, and it truly shows. The chicken was perfectly cooked, not greasy, not salty, just right. One of the best burgers and fried chicken meals we've ever had. We wrapped things up with cappuccino chip ice cream. They serve Hershey's ice cream, which is always a win. We always try to support family-owned restaurants when we travel, and this place is exactly why. Nothing mass produced here, just food made with care. If you're in the area, stop by and say hi to Autume, Melissa, and Brenda. You won't be disappointed. Even if you're not nearby, it's worth the drive. What a gem of a place to find when traveling through the Camp Hill area. What appears to be a small diner is Joy's with friendly staff. The Joy's Burger was done well and worth eating. The fries were actually good, too, though I was worried about them, but it was a success. Our waitress was a bit forgetful; however, she had a pleasant personality which made you not care. Stopped in tonight for dinner. It was my first time here and my fiancé's second time. We couldn't decide between a cheeseburger and gyro so we got both and split them. They were both very delicious. The burger was nice and juicy and the gyro was yummy and served on really good pita bread. And the fries were fresh, crisp, and perfectly salty. We got the Memphis burger and fries to take home to his 16 year old, and all we heard was happy noises while he was eating it. The service was super friendly. Joy's is our reliable go-to for weekend breakfasts. We love sitting at the counter if it's just the two of us or grabbing a table. Staff is always very friendly.portions are always huge and you can tell the chefs take pride in their food. Now, the food was excellent...the burgers to die for. Juicy...cooked perfectly...hot & fresh. However, here is my dilemma. Have you been to Dad's Garage in Mechanicsburg? This menu is IDENTICAL to the one at D'sG...down to the type of fries and the trays they served the food on. Am I missing something? The Louisiana Burger is 10oz of cooked to your choice of temp and deliciously hand-crafted. The sesame seed bun was moist. The toppings were bleu cheese, cajun aioli, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and a whole lot of love. The kids burgers were BIG. They were the size of any regular cheeseburger and plentiful. My 10 year old son was very happy. And they had plenty of fresh cut, boardwalk style, french fries. The gyro wasn't anything to write home about, but my wife will order a burger or chicken next time. Apparently, the fried chicken is made to order. And it looked great. They open at 7am and close at 8pm. They serve breakfast, have an assortment of hot dogs with toppings, fresh cut fries, and various appetizers. There are other things on the menu but I will b-line straight to the burger or maybe the fried chicken. If I try the chicken, I'll write an update. The dining room isn't flashy. They have some small tables, stools at the counter, and a few booths. The booth we sat in fit two adults and three kids comfortably. The service was great. My boyfriend loves the burgers here. I got the fried chicken, which was good! Nice and crispy but juicy on the inside. I would definitely go back for the fried chicken. However, the sides are not as good of quality as the main meal items. I would definitely pay more money for better quality sides. The Mac and cheese is just microwaved stuff, which came out cold. Just had breakfast. Eggs over, hash browns, bacon and toast. Portions were ample and with coffee and tax the bill was only $10. Waitress was attentive. All pluses. Negatives are that at 9 am I was the only customer there. It was eerily quiet. The food was tasty, but the bacon was undercooked. The kind that flops over when you pick it up. This small establishment serves breakfast, and burgers. I went with the classsic bacon cheeseburger with fries and a pepsi. It was delicious. I like the old school feel of a diner. There are other busy shops here so parking is tough. Around the side is parking. Service was good and the owner/cook asked how everything was. The menu says best "chicken" in town. We've been here a few times a usually enjoy it. We went on a Sunday afternoon for lunch this past week. It was busy and the server was trying her best but she was hopelessly in the weeds. Took forever to get our drink order and even longer to order meals. To be fair, the cook did ask if we were ready to order but we had just finally gotten menus and I wasn't quite ready yet. After that it was 15 minutes until we were asked again. The burgers have always been good, but my big complaint about them is that they fall apart immediately and completely once you bite into them. Having one of those burger diapers on them would help with this a lot. Hubby had the chili dog, which also immediately fell apart. Decent food but we don't want to eat our sandwiches with a knife and fork. I think we'll stick to breakfast next time. read more
