A big shout out to JP Landscaping for transforming my front yard in a matter of days. Since recently moving out to Tracy, I've found that it was a little harder to maintain a lawn. And so, within a few months my lawn full of green grass turned into weeds (I blame the scorching sun and my inexperience with lawn care). I started researching alternatives for landscape designs and came across JP Landscaping. I was amused by the "drought tolerant" designs that he had which was very eco-friendly and low maintenance. I wanted to love the work. Honestly; I actually knew the owner in high school. But after a the first initial of "decompose granite" being applied, we quickly contacted the owner back stating that it wasn't what we wanted .. and we'd pay for proper work to be done as long as the results were good. the guy who did the job for him initially was using a stamper tool to compress the areas. Now, we had a huge part of our backyard done, and this poor guy was trying to compact gravel manually. We requested they use the proper tool, which is easily rented. The job was "Done" and there was a ton of loose rock. Now, I'm no landscaper but the rock usually is done 2-3 inches below the decomposed compacted gravel. We were told the dirt we had before him starting that it was going to be dug out low enough to complete the job nicely. We also were told that our small gods would have no issue being able to walk on the completed work. And that was very strong. WRONG. My small chihuahua which is like 7 lbs runs on it and kicks up the "rock" later that is suppose to be the base layer. Like when I say kicks up rock, it leaves like a hole where he runs. Not suppose to happen with GLUED down decomposed granite. We were also told we could "purchase extra glue ourselves and spray more.. excuse me? We have to ADD MORE product to a paid landscaping company job? It's been barely a year and it's pretty much just a thrown together layer of small rocks. Which was also supposed to be weed / grass resistant. We have grass and weeds growing through the rock. Big waste of $2,500 dollars. I wish I would have done the job myself. read more

Jordan came out to assess the work I wanted done in my backyard. He was friendly and promptly provided a written estimate that same evening. He quoted me $3000 for the job and wanted me to pay $2500 by the time he started the job with the $500 balance due at the completion of the work. It's Tuesday and he said he could start the work on Friday of the same week. I did not hire him for the work because I thinks it's outrageous for him to expect payment of 83% of the cost of the job before he's done any work. Especially because I've seen several 1 star reviews here and on Google saying he has a habit of taking deposits and never coming back to complete the jobs. read more

I found Preston Landscaping on Craigslist and, quite frankly, it was a stroke of great luck! I needed drought tolerant landscaping. I called numerous landscape companies, but many did not return my calls and the few that did, the accents were so thick, I could not communicate with them. Others, did not understand what "drought tolerant" meant. It was an exercise in futility until I texted Preston! I asked to be contacted via email and immediately received a confirmation text back. That evening, there was the email I requested in my inbox. I scheduled an evaluation with Travis and he showed up on time. I told him I needed "drought tolerance" and that was all he needed from me. He took measurements and said he'd send me an estimate with 24 hours. The estimate also arrived as promised. And on it, I was given several options on materials and plants. I didn't have to tell him what plants were drought tolerant, Travis knew. I agreed to the price, one which I felt was very reasonable, I might add, and scheduled an installation date. Again, the project started on time. Travis and Jordan immediately went to work. As it happened, I was very busy and didn't have time to (micro)manage their work, but micromanagement was required anyway. Absolutely zero direction or additional time was required of me. They did PRECISELY what they said they would and all with outstanding workmanship! When the project was complete, again, on time, Preston Landscape left me with beautiful, drought tolerant, landscaping and no residual mess like empty pots or material bags. Everything was swept, cleaned-up and, actually, they left the surrounding areas better than they found them! They're also very polite and, overall, just good people! :-) I'm 100% pleased with Preston Landscaping! read more

It's been a week or so since I posted my review, and I discovered more issues with Jordan's "job." Seriously, if you're reading this, you're not going to believe what I'm about to write. 1. The cheap terra cotta pot in the front with succulents has NO SOIL in it. You read that right. No soil. No dirt. Just a bunch of rocks and succulents pushed in. The worker literally pulled the cheap succulents from their tiny containers and stuck them directly in the dirt. They're all dying. I only noticed that there's no soil because one of the succulents fell out of the pot due to gravity. (The cheapo pot is slightly on its side.) 2. They didn't put weed blocking material underneath the big flat area of decomposed granite in the backyard!!! There are weeds everywhere! And since this area was stabilized, this is NOT an easy or cheap fix. Further proof that these people did a beyond horrible job. I've called and emailed Jordan since leaving that last review, and he has not gotten back to me. Complete silence. DO NOT WORK WITH JP LANDSCAPING!!! read more

Do not use them. I have never been so disappointed. This has to be the most unprofessional establishment we have ever been in contact with in our lives. Day 1- they come out and treat you nice and fulfill the obligatory email with layout Day 2- they come back out and ask for deposit for materials Day 3- they never come back and leave equipment We have spoke with their father who also has an established business and he said that they are NOT allowed to use his license even though it was said that they are working under their dads license. We didn't think otherwise since we researched the business and it was legitimate. We contacted the CSLB AND BBB. Both are aware and so is their dad who offered to go to court with us to get our money back. This is an unfortunate instance for sure. We will follow through and get our money back. read more

Preston Bros Landscaping was the only company brave enough to take on two yards full of fierce, runaway bamboo & annoying ivy ground cover. I love to garden, and desperately wanted to plant flowers and a vegetable garden when we bought our new home last year. But first, the bamboo had to go. The guys at Preston Landscapes spent days digging that evil grass out of my property, getting right down to the root. They then trimmed overgrown trees, removed the dead ones, and brought my citrus back to health. They reset our brick courtyard, installed weed block and decompressed granite, and got all of my soil prepped for planting. I brought them back for more projects; they built a custom dog run for my backyard, a garden gate and trellis, and installed both a lush, soft lawn and a paver patio. We loved their work so much that we hired them for the veterinarian office we own and converted the lawn to drought resistant plants and mulch. They are truly professional & make excellent suggestions to save $ and water, and have made every vision I've had for my new home a reality. Highly recommended. read more

I had interviewed many landscapers who had their own ideas of how they wanted MY Xeriscape design, without listening to what I wanted. I am glad I checked Craigslist before I settled. Travis and Jordan came for a consult and really listened to my ideas. They did what none of the other landscapers did on the first meet and greet - they shared photos with me of their unique designs and discussed how they could incorporate their ideas with mine. They had suggestions for relocating my existing trees, and even went as far as to suggest they could move my dwarf Japanese Maple from Direct sun to a more shady area where it would thrive. They pointed out how it was suffering. They suggested I move a Rose Tree to the other side of the Yard, and I was sincerely against it; It had been there for years... but I let them do it anyway. They were ultimately right - It is now spectacularly positioned. The maple is also now flourishing in the shade. I told them I wanted a Decompressed Granite Pathway from the street; but did not want little rocks tracked into my home. None of the other landscapers would brainstorm with me and most thought it was a bad idea. None would consider that part of my design. Travis and Jordan just seemed to "get me". They said it would look fabulous if we incorporated Flagstone Steps into my path. They quickly emailed a design layout and contract. They suggested I incorporate a 3rd rock color into my plan and use a terra cotta color flagstone. I had hoped for a grey flagstone, and didn't really want the 3rd color of rock. We discussed it, and they seemed to really think it would make all the difference in the world. I'm so very glad I listened to their ideas and let them run with it. WOW ! They truly have an eye for color and design. The contrast of the colors POPS and has this "OMG - Beautiful" effect. They worked hard through the severe heat in October and were as pleasant in the evening as they were in the morning. They smile all day long. There were a few hic-ups due to defective equipment, and rock color discrepancy; but none of it their fault. Sure, There were delays, But Travis and Jordan had asked specifically before- hand if I were in a hurry to have the job completed. They worked around my busy schedule, as well. They conveniently emailed photo's of my landscaping choices and kept me informed of their ETA by text or email. I had to grab a handful of their business cards to hand out !!!! Cars still slow down when they drive past the house. I laugh at all of the subtle head turns. I've met some new friends who've pulled up and parked in front of my house to talk. Some drivers just stop dead in the middle of the street when they see me. They all compliment and ask questions. My Husband and I ask ourselves if this is really our house every time we walk out the front door. My kitchen window overlooks the front yard, and I am so pleased with my new view. People, do not hesitate to hire them because of reported Delays. If you are having landscape work, Please Expect Delays in General. Everyone I know who has had recent landscaping has had delays. It is the nature of the business. I completely recommend Preston Landscaping. I don't think these guys will let you down. read more

Update to my first review.... Loved what they did, however their follow through on installing a fountain which was ordered in Dec and came in a few weeks ago has been poor. No follow up email, phone calls or texts from them. I paid them in full, which I shouldn't have done I suppose.. They've promised installation 2 weeks in a row, was supposed to be done first thing this morning. I just got home, just after 5pm...Still no fountain and no contact from them. I've had to drive the communications between us constantly, I'm the paying customer... Good customer service is getting harder to find...VERY disappointed... read more

It was time to replace the lawn in front of my century-old bungalow with a drought tolerant landscape. Working off the design they made me, the brothers and their crew transformed my yard in about 6 days. I was glad at the plants they chose: a few red Flax's, white-flowered Westringia fruticosa, yellow lantana and blue fescue balls. The colors and textures play off each other extremely well. They installed a curvy dg path from the sidewalk and topped that off with lighting. I am extraordinarily pleased with the results.
