So I have been to this place twice and it is now becoming something of a favorite. It isn't a place I think of as a 'go to' when the weekend hits - not a regular destination spot for me - because it feels like a 'locals place' and I'm not usually in for that. I'm starting to change my tune. We went last Saturday at 5, and as usual the place is busy. We managed to find spots at the bar and the first good sign? My beer was cold. Service was slow but that's as expected these days, the girls behind the bar were busy and not just lolling around. The second good sign? The food. Their French Onion Soup was as good as anyone's, hot, with noticeable breading, onions and melted cheese, wow. My girlfriend had potato skins and they were good, crispy skin and melted cheese. My only complaint is the same as always, they just leave too much potato meat in them these days, I miss when they scooped it out and it was mainly fillings. My corned beef sandwich was great, plenty of corned beef and ,melted swiss. I thought the service was just fine and friendly, just be prepared for a crowd and a little bit of a wait, pretty much anytime of the day. read more

I wok in the area and have gone here 2 times for lunch. The first trip the bartender was rude and refused to give me red sauce for my mozzarella sticks stating she did give them to me already. 2nd time same rude bartender and the onion rings were so greasy they were inedible. The food is surprisingly good at this little bar in Taylor. All the Friday fish fry specials were excellent, especially the cod which had a light tasty batter and was clearly hand dipped in house. For a lighter option try the blackened walleye which was great. Perch and several varieties of shrimp are also available. Each comes with coleslaw, two hush puppies, and choice of fries or baked potato. The hush puppies were tiny and they give a huge amount of tartar sauce which went to waste. The pizza was also great and the cheese bread is the size of a medium pizza. Food took awhile to come out but the bar was totally full on Friday night. Prices were fair. Jukebox playing rock, both classic and Kid. Everyone was satisfied with their mixed drinks and our pop and iced tea were continuously refilled by our extremely friendly server. JP's just started an open mic night for musicians and singers that is hard to imagine is bringing customers into the place but time will tell. It drove me OUT tonight sooner than normal due to the very high pitch singing by both the women and men that I am certain will draw a crowd of neighborhood dogs. While I give credit to most people brave enough to perform in front of a crowd it was excruciating for me tonight. The chicken strip and potato strips were noticeably smaller than the other times I've been here in recent months. This place is nice and cozy in a great location, away from all the downtown area which is great. We walked in and sat right away the staff is very friendly and very helpful. Their selection of drink is astounding.and of course I had to order a craft beer. I then ordered fried pickles and even though they came as spears they were very delicious, I usually like to get slices but it is hard to find slices. I then ordered the Big Blue cheese burger it was very delicious I ordered it medium rare but there was more bun than burger that was the only issue. Our server Justin is an amazing server and stayed on top of us making sure the food was great, drinks were cold and full and everything was fulfilled. If u get a chance to sit in his section, do it. Very disappointed at how my disabled friend was treated here. He was there Oct 17 with a group of friends, he was denied access to the only handicap accessible bathroom because it's located within their banquet area and they had a private party. He asked the private party and they didn't mind, so he used the bathroom and was then berated by staff!! Interesting enough the private party was a homecoming for Carlson students, well he and all his friends are Carlson Alumni!! This is completely unacceptable, according to the ADA they legally MUST provide accessible restrooms to disabled patrons, this man is paralyzed and in a wheelchair... Also, are we allowed to have indoor gatherings now of more than 10? I thought the MDHS had a ban? As someone who's certified to work with fizz led adults and has for over 20 years I will be letting all my clients know where NOT to go!!! read more

I've only been in here a couple of times. Service has been good each time, if sometimes a little slow. Lunch prices more than make up for any timing issues though, I can get a meal that fills me up so much I don't need to eat again the rest of the day, complete with a drink for under $7, it's a glorious thing. Okay the 1st time we went here for lunch (they have $1.00 burgers Tuesday- Thursday) it was understaffed and after an hour we had to take our food to go. The burgers were still really great but fries dont travel well. Decided to give this place a second chance because the burgers were so good and I am so glad we did. I had the Cobb salad that was fresh, delicious and full of chicken, bacon and all the goodies. My co-worker had to pan seared perch and she LOVED it. They are still remodeling the interior but the waitress are great and the food is superb. They got repeat customers for life with us. read more

I have been there before and I go there once a month and have enjoyed their burger special that is on the back of the menu for like $1.25. Tried to order and set a bar there were about 15 people in the place. Tried to give the bartender my order and my friends said she was too busy and all she could do right now is get us drinks. Came back about 10 minutes later to take her order, told her I wanted the launch special on the back of the menu medium rare no onions, my friend said he would have the same just he wanted his well done. About 10 minutes later she brought out three sliders for both of us, I explain to her that's not what I ordered these flyers were playing and I wanted the 3rd pound bird that was on the back of the menu that was a special, she got angry said I never said that I said to Special only goes till two and that I shouldn't of ordered it and she could take it away if I didn't like it. She got kind of nasty talked over me said that's not what I ordered through the menu at me told me again she could take it back, I told her I would never come back to that bar again and my friend gave her the burgers to cook because his was rare instead of well. Bar is run by some of the rudest business people I have ever met. Tried to book their banquet room by calling everyday for a week after being told "we'll hold it for you just call back" only to be ignored daily, then when I finally got ahold of the woman who runs the banquet room 2 days before my event, she decided to verbally berate me and say I didn't make any attempt to book the room and it was reserved by another group. Great bar with a wide menu, its elevated bar food made with fresh ingredients. They have great pizza but their best item is only listed on the menu for Mondays, but you can get it anytime, that is their calzone. It is huge with fresh ingredients, real mushrooms, a whole grilled chicken breast, etc. You can get two meals out of it. Decent beer selection, great staff, you can tell that they really enjoy working there. The owner is their regularly and the bar is clean and well maintained. With COVID they are now only doing carry out but it is definitely worth the trip, great food at half the price of the big chains. read more

Noticed all the changes and good renovations since 11 years ago. Probably 1/2 full on a Thursday night. Staff friendly but putting us off on getting drink orders. Did offer sample taste of Stout and cherries to go with Sam Adams Cherry wheat. Problems developed with our order for cheese bread which, after 20 min came out cheese pizza.Waitress noticed right away and returned to kitchen for re-order of cheese bread. Another 20 mins and we had our cheese bread. So 21/2 hrs we've had 2 drinks each and an order of cheese bread!! The upside is our waitress didn't charge us for the cheese bread, the cheese bread with bacon and olives was very good, we are Retired and really had no where else exciting to go. Had my Daughter's 21st birthday party in the "banquet room" at JP McGuires. This is a nice, neighborhood place and they treated everyone with style. Someone in her possession behaving this way if infected could pass the virus to 100's. Visited for the first time and it was great. We sat at the bar and Justin was great. He was very friendly and took good care of us. Food was excellent. My husband had the cod dinner and I had the JP special chicken bowl (also came with gravy but I'm not a gravy person) which was really good. Good drink specials. Stopped in for a few drinks before heading to a Superbowl party. Glad we had a part already because they were closing from 4:30-5:30 to set up for party. Even though we already had plans we weren't offered to stay for the game. Ordered a vodka\sprite and it came a LARGE glass. Basically a high ball glass the size of a mug. Way to big for a quality drink. Next drink I ordered a short and it came in a tiny juice glass. Really? Just weird! (picture doesn't to it justice). Waitress was really nice and building has been recently remolded very nicely. It's large inside and would be good for groups. We seen some food come out that look really good but we didn't eat. They have an Internet jukebox and someone played Pink Floyd the entire time we were there. Not only Pink Floyd but B-side really weird stuff that was loud and there were families there. On Friday I stopped by for Cod And fries... When I received the food the my plate seemed to be lacking something??? I cut into the fish and it was all batter with a side of fries... I showed the waitress and she said sorry and walked away??? I was confused... So my wife talked to the bartender/owner and told her of this... Her reaction was did you ask for a new one??? oh goodness, I just don't know about this place. Visited today for lunch, and 2 hours later, my stomach is still angry with me. It's a bar, so you expect the food to be greasy. Well, that's what you'll get, GREASE! Ordered a burger and O'Rings, ate 1/2 the burger and 3 or so rings before my body couldn't handle it anymore. The rings taste like crispy fried batter minus the onion, and the burger grease was dripping down my arm. There were a lot of locals in there, already over-served at 1pm, being loud and cursing (yes, children were present). I think this is a local guy's place as we were the only ones in there the serer didn't know by name. Before we left, a man with birthday gifts came in to secure a table for a group. He asked to sit where they could see the TV to watch the football game, and the server told him no, putting him in the back corner. Mind you, there was plenty of room, only about 5 tables of people in there (the bar rail was full, again all local men known by name). Just got the impression that if you aren't a regular, you don't get very good service. We wont be back. read more

I wanted to update my review as I've gone from a occasional diner to a weekly regular. We go every Tuesday to have live dinner and play live trivia. The food is amazing and the menu is varied enough that you don't get tired of it; they have some amazing homey specials like great beef tips and mac and cheese. I saw some negative comments about it being a "regular's bar"; there are a lot of regulars, and it is great to come in and the waitress can give you a heads up on a new beer that she knows you will like. We've had friends come for the first time and soon they were regulars too. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have a great Sunday brunch and we had a party in their banquet room after my son's baptism; the food and service was as amazing as what we get in the bar. read more
