We had Hannah as our server and she was amazing, as was the food. The service was amazing and the restaurant was very clean.

This was more of a 2.5 star experience. I haven't been to any other Hopcat besides the East Lansing one, so it's very possible that not every location would have the same experience as I did here. Our service was extremely slow even though we were there close to 8pm on a Sunday and it wasn't busy at all. I really wanted to like my chicken bacon wrap, but it was very cold (like not just room-temperature cold, refrigerator cold) and the butt of the lettuce was included. My MIL's sandwich was more bread than meat- to the point where it was a little sad when it was presented. However, my husband really liked his meal, and the sampler plate was good. read more

Been here plenty of time now. I would definitely give it a 5 star wirh the staff being so nice and how the place is. Definitely one of the nicer places Downriver. However, the food is just not all that great and could be better! The place is bright and welcoming. Whoever, designed it was well thought out. Two stars for good drinks and service. My wife ordered a hamburger on a gluten free bun. I know restaurants often have an upcharge for GF substitutions, we accepted the $2.50 for the bun. However the burger was served cold and the bun was dry and hard. Hopcat, you can do better than this. The bigger disappointment was my Citrus Quinoa Bowl. I had had this before and was looking forward to trying it again. What the kitchen sent out was basically a bowl of lettuce with dressing on the side. It was supposed to have salad greens, red quinoa, cucumbers, diced applies, marinated beans, candied onions and carrots. There was very little quinoa and no carrots at all. The manager apologized for our meals, and seemed embarrassed by my bowl, which was supposed to be tossed (it wasn't, the greens were dry). To their credit the staff removed both entrees from our bill. However the kitchen needs some training. read more

I stumbled upon this Hopcat when searching for dinner near my workplace. I had no idea they had a location in Southgate. It was unusually quiet for a Friday night because of Halloween. The dining room is colorful with a great vibe. The beer list is fantastic of course. I tried a Blackrock Mykiss IPA which was perfect. The menu has so many tempting options that it was difficult to make a choice. My crispy chicken bacon wrap was tasty. Unfortunately I am not a fan of the Cosmik fries because they are laden with too much pepper for my taste. Not sure if you can substitute any other sides. My server was lovely and so fun to talk to. I had a problem with my meal which she quickly addressed. The manager was so great and made sure the problem was resolved. I can't wait to return! read more

2nd time at the Southgate location. Again service is slow, I wanted almost 5 mins, still haven't been greeted it. Went to bar to try to pick up my carryout. The bartender told me to go to the hostess stand. Finally the hostess comes out with her cellphone in hand. Finally got my food 5 mins later. I've been other locations- this is the worse. Can't wait to go back! First time at HopCat and just stopped in for a quick drink and bite. Love the decor and the pretzel nuggets were amazing! So light and airy but with a nice crisp on the outside. The cheese dipping sauce was not heavy, which was much appreciated. Great service at the bar too. Our bartender wasn't satisfied with the cleanliness of the wine glasses that were available so he went in the back and got me a different one. Will definitely be back! read more

I LOVE HopCat! I took my husband out to lunch after church yesterday. We made a reservation through OpenTable and did not have to wait. Our server was slammed, but she was very helpful and friendly. The only reason I'm giving it 1 star is because the waitress was friendly and a very good waitress (plus you can't leave no stars on here but she deserved the mention). The food is overpriced and not great. Also, I had a $9.00 Bloody Mary and couldn't feel any alcohol. I signed up for the rewards app ahead of time but my points never got added in. I contacted customer service via their email but never got an answer and have never received the points and that was 2 weeks ago. Overall, not a great experience ! read more

Terrible service, I placed an online order to be picked up at 8:45 pm at 7:00pm. I arrive to pick up order, and waited 10 minutes just to be told that they were out of fish and chips and that the order was reversed and I should have received some sort of notification which I never did. I love the Hopcat in Detroit. I was thrilled to hear they opened one near me!! We happened to end up there on what I'm assuming was the "soft open". It was anything but soft! they where slammed!!! But I still got a great selection of craft brews, and wonderful food. I think I found a new favorite beer, unfortunately, I just can't remember the name Service was great, even though they were rockin!! But the atmosphere is really what it's all about. The ambiance, like the other hopcats, is a craft beer drinkers dream. I got the Nashville hot chicken, it was amazing, but they also have a pretty great selection for vegetarians, which is great because I have several in my family that are hard to please, and yet, the staff at hopcat wowed us all. We had a wonderful first dining experience at HopCat in Southgate tonight. Everyone was super friendly and attentive. They had a soft opening, which I discovered thanks to Facebook. It was an incredible deal-- $15/person. For 2 people we received, 1 shared app, 2 entrees, 1 shared dessert. Everything was wonderful from start to finish. The elote dip had a hint of spice, but it was subtle. It was creamy and flavorful, served with fresh chips. We both ordered Nashville Hot Chicken. It wasn't too hot or overwhelming. The chicken had a great crunch to it. We upgraded the cosmic fries to loaded fries. They're the best! Smothered in cheese, onion, bacon, jalapenos. We ended our meal with the brownie. It was served hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. The brownie was crunchy around the edges and soft and gooey on the inside. It was delicious. The restaurant is decorated great with a lot of art work and murals. The seats and booths are super comfy too! We will definitely be back. read more

This place had really good food... the catch is if you even get your food to eat it lol. Me and my mother went here Sunday as we wanted to try something new, and we heard this place was supposed to be pretty good. The restaurant itself looks really nice inside and out. From what I could see of the kitchen from my seat, it also appeared nice and clean. I ordered a Mushroom Swiss Burger and she ordered the BBQ Chicken Cob Salad with a side of fries. I asked for a side of mayo for my burger... which I never received. The waitress doesn't bring your food to your table, someone else does. So I felt bad asking them for the mayo when clearly that wasn't their job. And our waitress took forever to come back to the table so I ended up eating my burger as is. And it was a pretty tasty burger. Their fries are really good as well and the seasoning on them is a nice touch of flavor. We also had to borrow ketchup from the table next to us, because again the waitress wasn't back in time for us to ask before our fries got cold. The biggest issue was my Mothers salad. She received her salad with no chicken. And as I stated before it was a BBQ Chicken cob salad... so they put BBQ sauce on the salad but no chicken lol. We let our waitress know when she got back around to our table, and that was the last we seen of her or anyone else for 30 minutes. My mother waited 30 minutes for her salad to come back... and all it needed was some chicken with BBQ sauce. Finally our waitress came back around and my mother informed her that she still didn't have her salad. So the waitress had to go back to the kitchen and ask what's going on. Eventually a guy came back with a salad to our table. Annnnddd the salad had regular chicken on it, not BBQ chicken. So it still wasn't right. At this point we informed him we just wanted to leave. The bill was covered for us- obviously because our experience wasn't the best. And my mom got BBQ sauce on the side and took her new salad home. The food itself is good, but the service wasn't great at all. And there were tons of people working there! We were seated right by an opening to the kitchen, and you can see tons of people walking around back there. Yet putting some BBQ chicken on a salad took over 30 minutes. I'm not saying don't go, because the food is really good. Just be aware you might encounter some service related issues like we unfortunately did. read more
