Food is adequate but not up to the standard of other BBQ in Wimberley. Ordered baked potato with brisket. Waitress came out after a few minutes. They had just started baking the potatoes at 5 PM. Decided on the brisket tacos and they brought a small serving of potato salad on the side. Brisket tacos had no pico, no lettuce, no tomato, no cheese, no nothing. I added a little bit of bbq sauce and they were edible. Potato salad was awful. Not homemade tasting at all. Potatoes in the salad were not completely cooked and it wasn't any better than what you can buy in the grocery store in a container. Friend had fried pork chop sandwich. Bun a little bit burned. Just went to this place on the Fourth of July and it was pretty empty. Since I had good reviews, I wanted to give it a try and get it to go order. I ordered a quarter pound of brisket a quarter pound of hatch Gouda sausage and a quarter pound of ribs along with 6 ounces of beans and 6 ounces of potato salad and I asked for a pint of mac & cheese, but instead I got an entire giant container - pretty sure it was the court. I also got a Dr Pepper and banana pudding. I should have opened the bag and checked the order. I got a giant thing of mac & cheese and the sausage was not the correct sausage. The brisket was very good and tender, and all the sides were pretty good. I will definitely be returning, but I will be checking my order next time. read more

The flavor at this place is really good. However, make sure you ask for the leaner side of the brisket as I was pretty disappointed that nearly half of it was all fat. They have great live music though and the service is quick. Though I will preface that with we went at 5:30 so I have no idea how long the line gets! read more

Showed up around 5:30 on Saturday. Our rental cabin was down the street so we stopped by for some bbq. We sample the hatch chili and Gouda sausage. Tasty but a little toooo cooked for me. The chicken was cooked perfectly with crispy skin and moist meat. Also had the ribs and brisket all very good. For the side we had the Mac and cheese, potato salad creamed corn and braised cabbage. I could have aren a quart of the cabbage. lol very fast service and you order at the counter. read more

Went back a year later and I was amazed how wonderful the bristles is now. So full of flavor so juicy and tender. Out of this world! Friend got the burger and loved it as well. Service was wonderful and love the outdoor area! Highly recommend and will be coming back a lot more! read more

Amazing central Texas BBQ. We had the family platter with brisket and smoked sausage... It came with some Mac n cheese and coleslaw. They even included a gallon of iced tea! All your typical fixins are available by the counter inside - pickles onions sliced white bread, etc. Everything was excellent! The brisket was fatty and moist with the perfect bark... Wimberly is such a magical place and to enjoy some great smoked meats under the trees was a great experience... I heard about this place on Texas Eats. Since I had a day off work, my wife and I decided to take the hour drive to Wimberly. If you want excellent BBQ in Wimberly go to PJ'S Wimberly BBQ. I had the PJ house special. 1/4 brisket (2 slices), 1 pork rib, I sausage ring and I added 1 ring of the Hatch Green Chile and Gouda cheese sausage, with Mac N' Cheese and Pinto Beans. Wow, everything was great. The brisket was tender and delicious as was the rib. I definitely liked the sausage but LOVED the Hatch Green Chile and Gouda Cheese sausage. The Mac 'N Cheese was very good and the Pinto Beans had a nice taste with a bit of a spicy taste. I highly recommend trying Wimberly BBQ then take a walk around the town. read more

We just had dinner at JPs Wimberley Bbq! First time visit as we just moved to Wimberley a couple of months ago. It was wonderful! I had a sliced brisket sandwich with coleslaw and loaded mashed potatoes. The coleslaw was the best I have ever consumed. All three were incredible. My husband and brother had the Texan plate. Both stated it was very good. Atmosphere was great. Service was prompt. Everyone was very nice and you could see that they really cared that we were there and interested in our opinion on the food. This is great BarBQ! Six of us came for lunch on Tuesday. The group had brisket, pork ribs, sausage and pulled pork. Everything was excellent, as were the sides. The owner came by to thank us for coming, which was a nice touch. We're from Houston, so we've been spoiled by some very good BarBQ. This place could easily compete with the best of them. Overall I like JP's Wimberley BBQ, especially with their expanded Summer operating hours, which makes them open more during the mainstream hours you would expect of a dining establishment you might hope to be expected to be open for dinner if you were planning to be actually having that (which would be beyond the Thursday -Sunday from morning through around 6ish you could count on having most of the menu available). This is the Wimberley location of San Marcos BBQ, which I think is actually a bit better than Hays City (a past Top 50 Texas Monthly BBQ winner), but in terms of Wimberley BBQ - depending on what you like, it would be a tough fight between them and our other great BBQ standout, but it's no contest if you want dinner, since only one of them is open then; and it's JP's Wimberley BBQ. It's no contest if you want to sit down inside, or if you fancy a bit of live entertainment with an adult beverage on a weekend night - it's JP's. Both have great service and truly outstanding people running them, and I don't think you will have a bad meal at either one, and I think it's great we have two wonderful options here. JP's Wimberley BBQ does have a few extra things if you feel like you might have something other than the ordinary BBQ fare - and I can recommend it all. Their smash burger is a pretty decent burger, but one of my favorites here is their Chicken Fried Pork Chop, which is usually pretty darn good, especially with the entree by itself at less than $10, but with a typical Texas sized portion which comes with Toast & white gravy (see picture of a to-go order & which you can compare with their loyalty card for scale). It only makes me wish that they also had a chicken fried steak & some chicken fried chicken to also go with it on the menu, as there are not a whole lot of places where we can get a great one to-go here. A great steak would also be nice, but that's just me wishing for maybe a few things that have been tougher to find since CCC has been lost. Anyway, I have no problem whatsoever recommending JP's and I usually find myself eating there or grabbing a to-go order from there more often than almost any other place in Wimberley, but some of that is because they are convenient for me as I drive up & down River Rd to get from home to town, and with their expanded hours they are now open often enough to make that practical. Give them a try, I am betting you will enjoy it too. read more

Brisket was as good as it gets, IMHO. Had the fatty side. Fat was rendered perfectly. Smoky & not too salty. My favorite thing so far was on my first visit. Pork belly burnt ends. Sticky, smoky, sweet, & salty. The sausage is homemade. Grandpa's recipe. On point, gramps! There's also a hatch & cheddar version that neither grandpa nor I I have tried. ( just guessing he hadn't, but if it's anything like the original..! ) The total show stopper was my side of braised cabbage w/ meaty bits!!! I drank the delicious "meat liquor" to the last drop.
