Unassuming little taqueria food truck permanently parked here turns out AMAZING AUTHENTIC TACOS - and the locals seem to know it. We follow the locals - we saw nuns from a nearby shrine eating here and, so shall we! They open at 6am and do A LOT of breakfast taco business, and close at 1pm to catch the lunch crowd. Picnic tables are scattered around for seating, and cold drinks in the fridge by the order window. I had the Street Taco Plate, which comes with 5 street tacos with 2 choices of meat. I chose barbacoa and carne al pastor, two of my barometers for a good taqueria. Both meats were delicious - the barbacoa was meltingly tender and moist - very slightly flavored with cinnamon and maybe allspice? Anyway - definitely get the barbacoa. Same advice for the carne al pastor - delicious marinated pork crisped on the flattop and generously spooned into doubled corn street taco tortillas - Add onion and cilantro, a spritz of lime and a little of either the red or green house salsa and ascend to taco heaven. My husband got the crispy taco plate - 2 crispy corn-shell tacos, one with carnitas and the other with carne al pastor. Carnitas were tender and so so porky and delicious - another excellent meat choice if you come. Both plates are served with homestyle Mexican rice and refried beans. Their meat choices are: pollo (stewed chicken), carne asada (beef steak), chicharron, carne al pastor, carnitas (roast pork) and Barbacoa. Excellent service! We called in an order for the breakfast tacos and it was ready when we got there in less than 10 min. The service was so friendly and nice it really stood out. The tacos were filled up to the brim and very yummy. The green and red salsas were enjoyed by my husband who liked that extra spicy flavor they brought to his taco. I was down from Alaska visiting family for the Mother's Day weekend and drove past this gem. Saturday morning we went down and ordered six breakfast tacos, and two combo burritos. He advised us that it would be a 30 min wait; this was completely fine since the stand was busy. The stand has a paging system so you can sit at tables or in your car and wait. 30 min on the dot we got our food and headed off. They supplied an amazing salsa verde to go with our order, and the food was still smoking hot when we got back to the house. By far the best breakfast burrito I have ever had! And from what I hear the tacos were simple yet amazing as well. Especially for the price we paid Back down here again on 05/29/21 and had to stop. Once again the food was amazing! read more

Delish!! Bean and cheese torta was delicious! Comparable to any Mexican restaurant. Beans were perfectly smooth and cheese was soft and tasty. Torta was not doughy but crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Barbacoa taco was all meat and came with cilantro and onion! Best of the last 4 barbacoa tacos I've had in San Antonio. The place is extremely simple, it's like one of those places that in Puerto Rico call us chinchorro, it is a place where you make a classic stop because when you know the place and this is on your route you have to make a stop, you have to do it, stop and buy something well They have a flavor in the food that, as I mentioned, makes it inevitable not to stop. Spicy salsa--yes. Homemade tortillas--yes. Bestest tacos--Yaaasss!! This taco stand is totally legit! We ordered one carne guisada taco, one carnitas, one chicken crispy taco & one egg/chorizo/bacon burrito so we could taste a variety. The guisado taco was the bomb!! They use a heavenly stewed meat that melted in my mouth. You could definitely tell it was slow cooked for many hours. In fact, all the meats we tasted (even the chicken) were seasoned perfectly. The breakfast burrito was a tad dry, but it was fine once we added hot sauce. The green & red hot sauce were the best part. Spicy, just how we like it. But, keep in mind it's an outdoor food truck so if you are squeamish about cleanliness in the pick up window area this is probably not for you. ACCESSIBILITY: Noooo! I love this place, but I will often have to send hubby over to pick up. Parking spots are close by & not a long walk, which is a huge plus. But, the front of the food truck is mostly large gravel so not very cane-friendly or wheelchair accessible. On the plus side, there are a few stools & picnic tables so you don't have to stand while waiting for food. But, not very comfortable so we usually eat in the car. read more

Amazing tacos! I visited Tacos Don Chente twice during my visit to Texas Hill Country and it was my favorite place during the trip. Atmosphere: Located directly off the main road. Plenty of parking. They had 3 picnic tables under a large tree. Some were shaded. Food: Before we ordered we were told there would be a 15-20 wait. It was definitely worth the wait and the food was super fresh. I ordered the street taco lunch plate, which comes with 5 tacos and rice and beans for $9.99. I also ordered Topochico.The meal was super filling. I tried the chorizo breakfast taco, asada, and barbacoa. The barbacoa was my favorite. Cilantro, onions and lime come of the side of the tacos. They were also served with green and red salsa on the side. The green was spicy and added a great kick to the tacos. The rice and beans helped bring down the heat in between bites. read more

Small taco trailer in Sattler serving up some of the best tacos anywhere. Ordered a bacon, egg and cheese, as well as a carnitas taco with cilantro and onion. Took about three minutes for them to be ready. Absolutely hot and delicious. Had to wait a while for the BE&C to cool. The carnitas was so good with a squeeze of lime. We have lived in this area for 2 years, and Don Chente Mexican food is the best around! This is a food truck that is in a permanent spot with picnic tables outside for some seating. Absolutely delicious tacos from a little truck on the side of the road. We got bacon egg and cheese, barbacoa, and pastor. Fantastic!! The tortillas were so soft and perfectly toasted . Literally the best taco al pastor I have ever had! You just pull off the road and park. They have 2 picnic tables out back or you can take them to go. They do accept credit cards. 2 coolers of can sodas if you need a drink. It's obviously a local favorite because after we ordered 5 cars pulled up. Hardly any way for breakfast to be served.
