Whew! I don't realize how much I miss home until I get that Tex Mex or barbecue in my belly. This spot was a great find on our ride back to Austin from the Hill Country. Pig Pen opens early for the early risers, and their menu is extensive since they also serve lunch late morning. My friend and I ordered a variety of things: chicken quesadillas, turkey sandwich and a monstrous sized breakfast burrito called the Fat Boy. Everything was a delicious hit. We washed them all down with an old southern favorite- sweet tea, of course. Service was quick- we ordered at the counter, and the order was on our table in minutes. The place itself was classic kitsch that only a Texan can appreciate. Great overall experience that I highly recommend on your next visit to the Hill Country.

I will need to give them another try given 1) I ordered from them and 2) I didn't really go with their specialties. Nonetheless, my brisket sandwich was fine - kinda reminded me of Buccees expect this was "chopped" and there were a few huge tough pieces in there. The corn side was pretty good. But from what I see, it looks like a fun place to go to and def will have to try othe items and then maybe I can update this (hoping I can because I love great places in Drip!)

    Birria taco.

We went for breakfast and had breakfast tacos. They were loaded. Only needed one to fill up. We saw they had birria so we came back in the afternoon to try it. This time we ordered to go. It was surprising to find birria in a BBQ restaurant. But it did not disappoint. The birria was very good and it came with the caldo on the side. I recommend you stop by and try it.

I love brisket. It's my absolute fav. Unfortunately, my brisket was dry. It had good flavor, but it was not tender, moist, or juicy. The Texas-style green beans were overly cooked, so it was soggy, and it had absolutely zero flavor. A little bit of salt would go a long way. The jalapeño mac n cheese was the tastiest thing I had on my plate. Creamy and yummy. Service was fine.

$28 for 6 ribs and this is how 2 of them came. This is not acceptable. How did this even get into the bag? Time for a new place I guess which is sad since the flavor is outstanding.

We're driving through Dripping Springs TX and saw a Pig Pen bbq and decided to try it. I had the sliced turkey with green beans and my husband had the sliced brisket and charro beans jalapeños and tomatoes. Very tasty! Awesome bbq sauce. Definitely great bbq! Friendly service, western ambiance - tin walls and placards...

Breakfast Tacos! Yum! Don't come for me.. but its better than Flores. Yup. I said it.. and its Definitely better than fast food taco bell brekie. We got 2 Breakfast tacos today after dropping the kids off at school. 4.50 each (jan 2025). Easy in/out of their parking lot. Friendly service as usual. Plenty of seating for small or big groups inside. Rookie mistake I didn't call it in to go.. yet it only took under 5min to make it to go. We got to go: EKG- lots of eggs, chorizo, bacon, potatoe, beans. Finished with cheese. Its so big you can't close it. Id def ask for 1 tortilla on the side and you could make 2 easily. Fatboy- eggs, sausage, green bell pepper, tomatos. Order 1 extra tortillas for each taco ordered so you can spoon some out and have 2. It's that much filling. They have great fresh red and green salsa with some heat and freshness. Should have asked for 2 of each so I could have spooned some salsa on each bite! Try them for breakfast. Its the closest we've come to west coast style breakfast tacos and flavors. Definitely going to come back on the weekend to try the chilaquiles! It's one of our fav go tos in SoCal. We will have to see how it is here in TX. Excited to try! Consider them for a great breakfast spot.. especially if you have to be at the DSYA sports fields for baseball/softball or Drip HS. Call it in to go!

Solid bbq option in dripping springs, but we did come late in the day on a Saturday so they were out of jalapeño for the Mac and cheese. The coleslaw was also extremely dry which was disappointing as was the brisket (very lean and on the dry side). However, the pork belly burnt ends that were a special were exceptional!! They also offered bbq/tex mex offerings which I'm extremely excited to come back and try! The line went fast and they had plenty of seating.

We went for breakfast and lunch. The breakfast taco was ok, needed a little more seasoning, but mostly I needed salsa, not what was given in the little packets. We also had a roasted turkey sandwich and chicken quesadillas. The turkey sandwich needed condiments, it was dry and the quesadillas needed salsa. Service was great and the restaurant was clean and spacious. Nice atmosphere.

1/2 lb. of Brisket, 1/2 lb of pulled pork, Jalapeno Mac & Cheese, Baked Potato Salad

The food at Pig Pen was good and this might be the best BBQ restaurant in a Dripping Springs. I rated this one harder than usual due to its BBQ and we are in Texas. I'd give 3.5 stars if able to. The brisket was solid but a bit too fatty for my liking. The pulled pork was fantastic! The Mac & cheese was a bit weird because it was penne pasta noodles rather than the traditional macaroni noodle, but nonetheless the Mac & cheese was great. Service was 5 stars. The servers, cashier, and cooks were great hosts and very helpful, providing extra bread and pickles. The restaurant itself was spacious and had plenty of seating. I wouldn't mind trying it again in the future.

Pig Pen is fantastic! We take BBQ so seriously. The owner was born and raised in Lockhart (he knows his stuff) and the ribs, chicken thighs, brisket and warm potato salad are among! They have a great bar, and Johnson City is 1st stop on the wine tour, so they now pair with wine! We loved it. Bring your family, friends, and co-workers! Pig Pen is a Texas Gem for sure !

3 cold dry ribs, cold chunks of brisket.

Now if you want some great ribs, brisket and sausage, this is a great place to go eat, or get it to go, and be as messy as you want at home.

This bbq was way too salty and the ribs were puny and just not good. In fact it was so bad I threw most of it away, something I never do.

After waiting over 20 minutes without any update, I asked around 9:34 a.m. how much longer my order would take. Instead of simply apologizing or providing an update, the employee checked my payment time and told me that the wait was "right on target" for a good breakfast. When I politely expressed that the wait seemed excessive for what I had ordered, she reiterated that this was normal and that good food takes time to prepare. I didn't feel those comments were necessary--they made me feel dismissed rather than understood. She also stated there had been a long line ahead of us, which wasn't accurate. When I arrived at 9:13, there was only one customer finishing her order at the register. I finally received my food at approximately 9:38 a.m. While I understand that fresh food takes time, a 25-minute wait for two breakfast sandwiches and two iced coffees, especially with no proactive communication, felt excessive. A simple acknowledgment of the delay or a more empathetic response would have made a significant difference. Instead, I left feeling that my concerns were brushed aside. Between the lengthy wait, the dismissive interaction, and the overall experience, I didn't feel the service justified the price or the 20% tip that was included in my purchase. Unfortunately, I won't be returning.
