We stopped by this place after visiting a nearby brewpub. It's a texmex bbq joint, so I opted for a birria taco and my boyf got the turkey sandwich. We also ordered mac and cheese, charrp beans and green beans for sides. The birria taco was really good and the broth had garbanzo beans. My boyf said the turkey was ok, nothing special. The green beans were canned beans doctored up, charro beans were well seasoned and the mac and cheese was perfectly fine, a little runny. Our table didn't have any bbq sauce bottles, most of the tables didn't. Had to grab one from another table. Overall, food was solid,nothing special. Whew! I don't realize how much I miss home until I get that Tex Mex or barbecue in my belly. This spot was a great find on our ride back to Austin from the Hill Country. Pig Pen opens early for the early risers, and their menu is extensive since they also serve lunch late morning. My friend and I ordered a variety of things: chicken quesadillas, turkey sandwich and a monstrous sized breakfast burrito called the Fat Boy. Everything was a delicious hit. We washed them all down with an old southern favorite- sweet tea, of course. Service was quick- we ordered at the counter, and the order was on our table in minutes. We wanted to wrap up our mini getaway in Fredericksburg with some good BBQ, and Pig Pen BBQ was the perfect choice. We really enjoyed our meal, especially the brisket and the fries. Saw Pig Pen Bbq on Instagram and decided to go for Saturday drive. Drove 1.5 hours to get here and it was well worth it. I have to say I think this is the best BBQ I have ever eaten. The brisket, the sausage, Potato salad, charro beans, the fries, everything we ate was phenomenal. Oh and the Queso! Yes you heard me! The queso was amazing. I love brisket. It's my absolute fav. Unfortunately, my brisket was dry. It had good flavor, but it was not tender, moist, or juicy. We got 2 Breakfast tacos today after dropping the kids off at school. 4.50 each (jan 2025). Easy in/out of their parking lot. Friendly service as usual. Plenty of seating for small or big groups inside. Rookie mistake I didn't call it in to go.. yet it only took under 5min to make it to go. We got to go: EKG- lots of eggs, chorizo, bacon, potatoe, beans. Finished with cheese. Its so big you can't close it. Id def ask for 1 tortilla on the side and you could make 2 easily. Fatboy- eggs, sausage, green bell pepper, tomatos. Order 1 extra tortillas for each taco ordered so you can spoon some out and have 2. It's that much filling. They have great fresh red and green salsa with some heat and freshness. Should have asked for 2 of each so I could have spooned some salsa on each bite! Try them for breakfast. Its the closest we've come to west coast style breakfast tacos and flavors. Definitely going to come back on the weekend to try the chilaquiles! It's one of our fav go tos in SoCal. Solid bbq option in dripping springs, but we did come late in the day on a Saturday so they were out of jalapeño for the Mac and cheese. The coleslaw was also extremely dry which was disappointing as was the brisket (very lean and on the dry side). However, the pork belly burnt ends that were a special were exceptional!! The food at Pig Pen was good and this might be the best BBQ restaurant in a Dripping Springs. I rated this one harder than usual due to its BBQ and we are in Texas. I'd give 3.5 stars if able to. The brisket was solid but a bit too fatty for my liking. The pulled pork was fantastic! The Mac & cheese was a bit weird because it was penne pasta noodles rather than the traditional macaroni noodle, but nonetheless the Mac & cheese was great. Service was 5 stars. The servers, cashier, and cooks were great hosts and very helpful, providing extra bread and pickles. The restaurant itself was spacious and had plenty of seating. Pig Pen BBQ: Falls Short of Expectations I really wanted to like Pig Pen BBQ, but unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to the high bar set by great Texas barbecue. While the staff was friendly and the atmosphere was inviting, the food itself left a lot to be desired. The lean brisket was dry and lacked the rich, smoky flavor that makes Texas BBQ special. The turkey was also on the dry side and didn't have much seasoning to make up for it. As for the ribs, they weren't as tender as I'd hoped--more tough and chewy than the fall-off-the-bone goodness you'd expect. With so many great BBQ spots in the area, I was hoping for something more memorable. Pig Pen has potential, but based on my visit, it has some work to do to compete with the best in Central Texas. read more

Excellent all-around BBQ. I've eaten at a lot of Hill Country BBQ places, and this place is towards the very top. Service is friendly and reasonably fast, and the place - while rustic - doesn't look like it's going to fall down round your ears. :-) Personal favorite is the brisket taco. It's simplicity - four slices of brisket, two containers of hot/very hot salsa, and a tortilla. Perfect! The brisket overall is very good, perhaps a tad salty but properly smoked. Pork ribs are great and a bit on the sweet side. The pulled pork is very good, not overly 'processed' as it still had plenty of texture and great flavor. Oh, and be sure to try the 'Piggy Tails' - aka Candied Bacon. A real sweet treat! This place scores a 5 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Leaving San Antonio on the way to Oklahoma, we decided to eat some BBQ that Texas is known for. We had stopped before at the BBQ place on the square in BLANCO, TX. They were having some sort of event that had the town packed and there was no parking and the line was blocks long.... Although it was dry, he reported it was alright, my wife had the chicken sandwich and she said it was alright, nothing special. I ordered a chopped brisket sandwich. What they served me was not what I call chopped brisket. It was like the kind of sandwich that every gasoline station serves. Finely chopped parcels of something drenched in BBQ sauce. It was pitiful. I expected them to take 2 slices of Brisket and chop the meat in front of us. Who knows how long the crap they served me had been in a slow cooker. Several different BBq places along this road and we decided to drop by here based on the reviews. Wow... am I glad we did. It's a different typer of BBQ place. The nachos I got were amazing and huge. It was a feast for 2. I had to have the buddy I was with help me eat some. The ladies that were in the front of the house were helpful and full of smiles. I felt like I was right at home with them. You can see all the cooks in the back just slicing up ribs and making the sandwiches. I like this spot. The food vibe and service was great. Will be back when I am out un this area. Driving through Dripping Springs, we stopped at this fun bbq joint. The lady upfront was super lovely and helpful with the menu. We had 2 Piggy Paloozas with a Pastor Taco. The Piggy Palooza was a nice explosion of sweat bacon with a kick of wasabi. The pastor taco was perfect. The seasoning and smoke resonated in this delicious taco. Corn tortillas are so hit or miss, but these were just right a d not fall apart. A side of baked potato Salado was the hero. Buttery and rich, it was a perfect side to this tasty meal. This bbq was way too salty and the ribs were puny and just not good. In fact it was so bad I threw most of it away, something I never do.

I was in Dripping for a doctor appointment and looked for a spot to support a local business. Boy was I disappointed. I got the rib plate special. Supposed to be a half pound, but I seriously doubt that was what I got. They cut and measure in the back, so no opportunity to see what the scale registered. The ribs were plenty lean but had no dry rub that I could detect. They were way too sweet--not what you expect for Texas bbq. I got the charro beans for my side and again they weren't seasoned in any way to resemble the usual version expected in this area. The drink station was small and tucked into a nook so that only one customer could get a drink at a time. The straws were piled unwrapped in a bowl so very unsanitary. There was ample seating and the employees were friendly, so they get two stars for that. Much better bbq is available in the area for sure. read more

Jacob's rib plate is one of my faves ($15), 2-4 ribs (depends on rib size) with a side. ribs are always tasty & tender. recently tried the brisket sammie ($13-$14 combo with side and drink) the brisket was good, sliced a little thick for my preference. meat was good, but not especially tender. i like the rub they use, lots of black pepper and it can run spicy. my friends rave over the baked potato salad, i usually get the green beans (flat italian) or the pintos - which have big chunks of jalapeno and are a bit spicy. i liked their queso - ind size big enough for 2-3 to share, homemade chips are thick but good. i've seen but not ordered the brisket nachos - they are HUGE! some mexican offerings are usually on the menu as well as some desserts. casual spot with a few TV's around for game day. service is always fast & friendly with someone walking around to check on how your food came out or if you need anything. read more

Drove past this place a year go stopped in on a whim smelled amazing. And it's kept us coming back. Worth the drive from round rock and the staff is always amazing.
