Jreck Subs is a small regional chain of sub shops that offer a good sub (especially considering that it is a chain restaurant). Yes, it is a strange name. I guess that it was started back in the 1960's (which in itself was a strange time) by five school teachers and they each took the first initial from their name and came up with Jreck's. Obviously, with decades and multiple locations, the name obviously works. They had a line when I got there, but it moved along at a decent pace. A friend who used to live in Kingston Ontario suggested a visit to Jreck's during my stay in the 1000 Islands. He has been a fan of the place for many, many years, and always made a point of traveling across the border for a Jreck sub, whenever he was able to visit Kingston. The others I was vacationing with were A-Bay regulars, and were happy to oblige my request to visit Jreck. My choice was the Italian Combo, and it was delicious. The addition of the finely chopped cherry peppers, and finely chopped dill pickles, allowed these condiments to be equally disbursed through the entire sub, ensuring a bit in every bite. The unusual offering of a garlic/dill roll really hit the spot. Also, loved the soft texture of the roll. My friends have visited Jrecks many times during their annual A-Bay stays, and ordered their favorites. They say they're never disappointed. One also order the mac and cheese for the first time, and was very happy with that choice. Too bad this sub is so far away. Not gonna lie this is probably the worst hoagie I've ever had. They have got to change their roll it thats what you call that piece of white bread they put it on. I wouldnt recommend it, soggy bread sandwich. Not to mention the mayo goes on the bread not on top of the meat and cheese. Pure disrespect to a sandwich. I love Jrecks and make sure I stop every time I am in NY. They have the best bread that is super soft and fluffy. I always get the Philly with extra American cheese and mushrooms, peppers and onions and it's the best philly I've ever had. The jalapeño poppers were heavily breaded and contained minced pieces of jalapeños. The onion rings were all batter as well. I would pass on the fried sides next time. read more

OK, some of the Decour isn't a whole lot to look at and is very dated but don't let that scare you away from what could possibly be a great sub experience! We tried several different subs and were pleasantly surprised by the delicious bread and fresh cut ingredients. No, they don't offer as many toppings as a "big chain restaurant" but The bread makes up for it they also offer tacos and a few other frozen foods like popcorn chicken, soups, and kids meal etc. it is a great last expensive alternative to some of the other more expensive restaurants in the area. read more

Whenever I make the trip home, I always stop here for lunch or dinner, I can't go back to TX without making sure I stop in, it's always this location too. They are fast, friendly and the food never fails, it's comfort food to me. The prices are great, it's always busy, but worth the wait. read more

I have visited this place for many summers and have usually enjoyed. Their menu is extensive for a sub place and offers a large variety of both hot and cold foods. I like their subs and was disappointed that they no longer had chipotle sauce. I found that they skimp on the lettuce, tomatoe, and other toppings and it is mostly bread. I felt like I had consumed a giant dough ball later in the day. read more

I love jrecks. We frequent this location when we are upstate Twice a year. Anywhere from 3-7 trips per week. I've always loved their friendly service and attention to detail. Fresh bread all the time and just a good experience. It's not a fancy new building and I like that bit of added charm. However our last trip up was not great which is why I have to give it only 3 stars. One of the trips was a Sunday so when I ordered three large subs they said I could get a fourth for free. I said sure.. The kids have lunch for tomorrow! Win win. After my husband paid while I was getting the kids situated it turns out that we were charged for that 4th large sub anyway, which was a bummer but they were too busy so I didn't want to interrupt them to correct it, because they were working so hard. We just sucked it up. The sandwiches have been made good. It's the frying that's an issue every trip the fries were just not cooked as long as they should be actually our last trip was semi raw. I understand they get busy, but timers would be ideal. I hope they correct this issue because we always look forward to our jrecks trips but will seek out other locations next time if they can't correct this issue. read more

Disgusted with our visit at 4pm tonight. One person in line, 2 workers. Neither didn't seem very interested in being at work. The person in line ordered 2 hot subs 2 cold subs- 8 minutes later the cold sub rolls were just getting cut. Amazed at what I was witnessed, I asked how many subs? Person in line responds, "4" and the employee was chatting about his Black Friday shopping. No concern of anyone else in line, now 2 others are standing behind me. I hope Dave sees this review. I pray he's behind the counter again the next time I dare try another jrecks sub.
