I'm very selective about who I let work on my vehicles, and I can confidently say that Luis and his team did an excellent job installing a full sound system on my '94 two-door Blazer, which is in mint original condition. Before choosing them, I visited several professional shops for quotes and ideas, and honestly J's Sound stood out as the best choice. While their pricing may not be the cheapest, you can tell the quality is there -- and like they say, you get what you pay for. I'm also big on customer service, especially since it's hard to find nowadays. Luis treated me with respect the whole time. I never felt pressured into additional purchases or upgrades. He threw out ideas and was patient with me as I processed my options on what I wanted. I did let him know that they weren't the cheapest or the most expensive, but what sold me was their attention to customer care, detail, and knowledge. Most people only leave reviews when they have bad experiences, but I think a smooth, professional, positive experience deserves recognition too. I'm going to write this review like Jesus would by pointing out two things they know how to do right. First, they know how to install remote starters well. Second, they are very friendly. However, the main issue I have with them is their lack of integrity. First, Carlos, the counter guy try's to sell me a remote starter that already comes with an alarm. He told me, "for an extra $20 bucks I could add an alarm system to go with your remote starter." Not knowing much about the Compustar Q9 package, I said, "okay, it sounds like a good deal." (Not to mention, he charged me an extra $100 for the drone module that probably already came with the $500 system.) But that's not what really bothered me. After using the alarm system for about four months, I finally had enough of the glitchy and annoying alarm. I don't think it was fully in sync with my Ford F150. So I came back and told them that I wanted the alarm removed. So, what did they do? They removed the entire $650 Compustar Q9 remote start system from my truck. Why...? ( I knew I should have been more specific with them.) So I told Luis, the manager, "you made a mistake. I only wanted the alarm removed, not my entire remote starting system." I paid $650 dollars for the remote starter. I didn't pay all that money for a cheap alarm. It was a big mistake. And when I told him this, he tried to deceive me into buying another remote starting system that doesn't come with an alarm already built in. He wanted to charge me another $250 bucks for something I didn't need. Not knowing much about Compustar systems, I asked ChatGPT for help. Thankfully, ChatGPT told me everything I needed to know. All I had to provide was two simple things. Ultimately, instead of just disabling the alarm and keeping the remote starter installed. (Which is what they should have done from the beginning.) Luis wanted to take advantage of my ignorance and rip me off an extra $250 bucks. It was a simple reprogramming issue that Luis refused to acknowledge. And tried very hard to make me believe there was no other way around it. I'm going to paste the exact ChatGPT reply, along with the text message I sent to Luis (the manager of J's Sound Shop) down below: I asked chat GPT about the issue I was having. And I asked if it was necessary to remove the whole remote start system from my F150. And based on the model number of the system and the model number of the bypass module, it was NOT necessary to take the whole thing off. You could have left the remote starter installed and just taken the alarm off. See the text below: (Chat GPT replied) I can clearly identify two modules: Compustar CM-900AS (the remote start controller) iDatalink Blade-AL (the bypass/data interface module) The Blade-AL plugs directly into the CM-900AS and allows the remote start to communicate with your 2018 Ford F-150's factory electronics, including the immobilizer and CAN bus. This is a very common, proper installation. What this means for your original question Based on this hardware, I do not see any reason the entire remote start system had to be removed just because you wanted the alarm removed. The CM-900AS can be configured in several ways: Remote start only Remote start + alarm Remote start + keyless entry Those are software/programming options and installation choices. The alarm functions are not inseparable from the remote start. A competent installer can often: Disable the alarm features. Disconnect or remove the siren, shock sensor, or alarm wiring. Leave the CM-900AS and Blade-AL installed so the remote start continues to work. The only exceptions would be if: The installer wired the alarm and remote start together in an unusual way. You specifically wanted every aftermarket component removed. There was a wiring problem that made replacement easier than modification. Those are exceptions--not the normal rule. Brought my car to JS Sound Shop for a simple front passenger door speaker replacement and somehow left with a new problem. While my car was there, they called and said my rear driver-side speaker had no sound. Since they were recommended by a friend and had been professional, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe it was something I hadn't noticed. Unprofessional, uncomfortable and GREEDY! brought my BMW to install my xenon angel lights/ headlights after I bought them , but didn't have the time to install myself! Anyway, agreed with them to install for$150.00 ! Left the car with them ! Forty minutes later I got a call saying that they're not able to install because they will cut some wires and the parts don't fit! Put in mind I bought them and I knew they were the right parts ! I haven't had a sub-woofer in my car for over a decade... I purchased a new vehicle a year ago and have been working my butt off at work so i figured why not treat myself to a little something in the automotive department. I love music in ways i don't think i could even begin to explain so i thought i'd give this place a shot since its so close to my job and after reading a couple reviews from my fellow yelpers. Upon entering, theres nothing futuristic or really eye catching about the place, it just looks like a typical sound and rim shop. I hate myself for forgetting the who answered all my questions about what i was looking to get done. He was very knowledgable about what it would take to install a remote starter in my vehicle which has a push-button start. While i wasn't happy to hear that it was more expensive to install a remote starter because of the push-button he did give me a discount since i payed cash. Because of the hours i was working and how soon i wanted the work done and their hours i had to ask if they could drop me off at work since i wasn't too far from their shop. Too my amazement and satisfaction they had no problems doing that and they even came and dropped the car off to me at work after they closed so i could try everything out that night. Awful..... never again. The guy who greets you was cool.... but the service I got sucked. I got a scanner installed...... along with them checking a sound system issue. A wire hanging in plain view is unacceptable....and also just stuck the scanner on the back of the rearview mirror with 2 sided sticky tape .....but it was corrected. Crappy work (my opinion) 45 bucks to look at the sound issue.....but the problem was not resolved. (Shrugs shoulders) System (Highs) shuts down at medium volume. Came to J's to get an aftermarket receiver installed in my wifes Honda CRV. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone was very professional and knowledgeable and got me scheduled for an appointment quickly. The day of the install, everything was assembled and ready for installation and these guys did a beautiful job in a very short amount of time. Great place to come get your sound system right. The owner are brothers I believe very nice guys along with one of his son that work there they know there stuff and don't sell you short. I bought JBL 4 channel amp and was advise to buy the Memphis high end 4 channel amp but took the JBL because of price they gave me a chance to swap out for the Memphis within 2 weeks. So I tried the JBL and came back 1 week later for the Memphis which I was super satisfied with thanks guys. I also have to say I had my speaker done there my tweeter on my window panel my door speakers and my rear speakers they did a wonderful job. The tweeter look like they came with the car when first purchase. Also they do a real good job hiding the wires. The guy who hook up my car his name was Daimen he one of the best installer there also help you adjust your stereo so it can sound nice and clean.. I definitely will be coming back to get my auto starter on my car of any future sound system hook up to my ride.. read more

I found this place based on the recommendation of the head unit manufacturer (Kenwood), FYI, they only recommend 5 shops in the Chicago area proper, not counting suburbs, and this was the closest one to me. They claim they can get the radio installed today, we'll see. Edit 1: I have been here for an hour, they assured me they could get to my car within this time. Shit, they might actually get it done today, they're working on it now. Edit 2: Excited, I can hear my stereo system in the back, it's boom-boom-booming! I forgot that while my system isn't the loudest it most certainly is not quiet. Final edit: The shop does fast work for basic installs. If you need any custom audio specific work done in your car I highly recommend this place. I am sorry I don't remember any of their names, I was extremely tired and my sleep schedule is all over the place since I am in the middle of moving back to USA (military). They were very kind and professional. They walked me through the work completed when they were close to being done and then again when they were done. The end result is a pretty good install and my sound system being back online, I am pleased. Give this shop your business, you will not regret it. And if they tell you they can get it done that day, rest assured they will not be lying to you. read more

This is now my go to place for car audio. I had a new car radio, sub woofer, satellite radio and rear view camera installed. They were remodeling the shop but the garage is still open for business. I went on the recommendation of a friend and he was spot on. Quality work. The new radio fits into my car seamlessly. They covered every detail. They also gave me a tutorial on the new install before I left. These guys are great and the price was more than 50% less than what I was quoted at a couple of other places. They were fantastic! I bought a 1995 Mercedes and it has a Kenwood radio/CD player that I could not figure out how to play. I explained the problem over the phone and they told me to just drive on in. I did and in less then 15 minutes they had it working and they also taught me how to operate it. I needed a Viper alarm installation, did not want to go to a big conglomerate, so checked out J's. They were marked as Viper recommended installer on line. So I gave them a shot, I like supporting local business. Told them my issues and they gave me great individualized customer service, with instruction. Showed me all Viper products with video. They also fixed my radio speakers and ramped up my car for Bluetooth access to music, with setup. Everyone was friendly. Answered all my questions well.Offered water while I waited. The bathroom was clean. You know how you can go to small business and the bathroom looks crappy. THe business environment was clean and organized. They also do other car services as well,,such as wheel rims, audio installations. Or got to mention they called and texted other issues they encountered for consent to fix.
