I received such incredible service years ago (for my Malibu in which I still have and the sounds are still beating clear with no issues)I just had to return when I purchased my new truck. The owner was so professional he was very patient taking in everything I said I wanted. He suggested we both go sit in the truck so I can show him what my expectations were. I loved how he wasnt trying to rip me off but was more concerned with giving me what I return to his shop for in the best quality for longevity. So I got the Drone alarm and some door motors installed for automatic doors 6/17 I come in approximately a year later because for some apparent reason both the motors went out. Today is 6/29 They charged me $500 for the motors 1300 for the alarm..... And charged me $80 to even look at the problem. I went back and upgraded. Now it is exactly what I want. The staff here are experts rather than retailers. They will tell you what works and what doesn't. I came her solely based on a groupon that my wife bought me for my birthday. They were to install an automatic starter on my 2012 Chevy Malibu. I called twice before arriving. First, they have the most non-businesslike hours. They're only open from like 11a-3p. Then when I got there I showed him my key. He says, my car has a computer chip on it. (No duh! Every car made after the year 1996 does) Then he tells me: you'll need a bypass kit. I say: Fine, how much extra is it (thinking he'll say $20-60- max)? He tells me $90+tax! I'm not upset that I need the module. I'm not even that upset with how much it cost (although that's really expensive). I was upset that I spoke with them twice before I arrived, days prior, and not one tech thought to ask me what kinda car I have. I wasted an hour driving there, when this could've been discussed over the phone. Not to mention the unprofessionalism when they kicked me out after I told them that I wasn't paying for the bypass. I am dividing this review into 2 parts: for the auto service and the customer service, specifically that of the owner, Mr. Richard Park. For the auto service: We purchased the Groupon deal for the automatic starter, and had great service from the workers. Johnny and Alex were so helpful, cheerful, and went out of their way to help. No complaints at all with the men who worked on my car. For the customer service provided by the owners, Richard and Jay Park. Less than 12 hours after the automatic starter installation, my car died and wouldn't start again. It was towed back to PhD to get checked out. The problem turned out to be unrelated to the automatic starter, but when we came to pick up the car, Jay (appears to be the owner's son) angrily told us we had to pay $100 because they looked at the car. I stated that they never mentioned any fee at any time during my numerous phone calls, and that they had to check the car thoroughly anyways to rule out their own liability, and that I would be happy to pay $50, but not $100. Service was phenomenal! I had been having challenges getting an appointment with a different shop so I looked into PhD electronics to have my auto car starter installed. It was a gift from my parents so of course my mom, in typical mama fashion, called and did some research. My mom was impressed that they were able to get me an appointment that day and that they were willing to honor the Groupon price without having to go through Groupon. I was greeted by a kind gentleman and was assisted in registering and then was escorted to the waiting room. I was told it would take around 2.5 hours and I waited maybe an hour and my car was ready. I took my car, older model, 2006 Infiniti G35. 12 Noon appt arrived, checked in with Claudia, met & talked extensively with Jay the owner to ensure I was getting the right equipment, what was the final cost with and without the Groupon. Jay broke it down, all the way down. He clarified what I already knew I was to get per the Groupon; but I upgraded to a better quality remote starter after talking with Jay for about 10 mins. So he and I now understood what was expected and from this point I had confidence that all would be great and it was. Location is exactly 2 blocks walking from PinkL. I'm really surprised these guys don't have more reviews after their groupon bait and switch. I'm not mad the place was located in a terrible part of town. I'm not mad that I had to upgrade two remote starter systems. I'm not mad I had to buy two bypass boxes. I'm not even mad that they charged me an extra $50 to move a wire so that I can remotely open my door. I wasn't about to install this myself, and even though it was more expensive than a better system at best buy I did it anyway. What I am mad about is that neither of our starters were working this past week. I called them, described the issue, and they told me "Bring the cars in, hopefully it's not something major". I went to this place to upgrade my radio, but when I arrived he didn't have the parts to upgrade my radio. I had visited the establishment before they had installed a Computstar automatic starter for my 2016 Kia Sportage. But I didn't like the remote for the starter. So he charged me $ 350 just to change the remote to the Computstar automatic starter. Now on my way home I felt I had been taking advantage of. So I talked to owner and said a update remote cost 350. So I said If I'm going to pay $350 for a remote can you add the alarm system to it. He said yes for a extra 150. I said ok that's fine. So I returned now I have the radio and the parts. He said to install the radio would be $158 so the owner asked did I I have a backup Camera I said no. So he gave me a price of $258 if I purchase the camera from him. But the new radio came with one. I used the Living Social deal for a remote starter. I looked up the place and was well aware of the possibility of paying extra $$$ for a bypass module or an upgraded clicker. So before I bought the deal, I called the shop. They were quick and polite and luckily my car didn't need a bypass module. They set me up with an appointment for the weekend. When I went to the shop, they offered the upgraded clicker but weren't pushy (I got it, and I like it). They told me it would be about 2 hours. I stayed in the shop and watched the Sox-Cubs game on TV and read a book. I talked to about 4 of their staff while I was there and they were all helpful and seemed like good guys. One of them saw that I was reading so he made a makeshift-chair for me with a speaker. Another one gave me some chips as we chatted about the baseball game. This place is horribly overpriced for their quality of work. I came in to get a double din touch screen stereo wired into my 2004 GMC Envoy. All I really needed was the harness wired. I had already taken the factory stereo out myself, yet the charged me the full price of the installation. I guess I expected them to at least warn me that they would charge full price even after I did half of the work. But the worst, most unprofessional experience was that they sold me a dash kit for my stereo which they claimed was "universal". In reality, this was a SINGLE DIN dash kit in which all they did was make a sloppy alteration, which ended up looking so unprofessional. They said I could do 5% but it would cost $60 extra. I also asked if they can do the rear window too with 5% tints and they said it would be $100. I don't usually write reviews, but I wanted to after all the negative reviews. I also purchased the groupon, but had a no incidence experience. To purchase a car groupon it should probably be assumed you have some basic car knowledge, or call ahead before scheduling. The deal even said to call and confirm or to check the online database if a bypass would be necessary. Not all keys have chips. I have a 2007 and do not have microchip. Since the system is aftermarket, it will not work a chipped key, hence the warning to check if a bypass is needed. The guys were all very friendly. It is a neighborhood feel where people talk to each other and socialize, so being comfortable in your surroundings is a must. The process is slow- it took them about 3 hours for me, I walked to my gym a mile down the road- they called me when my car was ready, I walked back, picked it up and haven't had any issues since. I'm thinking about having them install a bluetooth system for me. read more

They have a spot in North Riverside mall so I made an appointment I was there for 4 hours with an appointment for tints. I seen bubbles before I even left and they said give it the 5 days to settle ok fine, so I end up going back because it still looked like shit. So now I wait 2 hours for my side window and back window leave it still has bubbles! NOW the shit it just peeling off my window from the bottom and on top of that the tint doesn't even go all the way to the top of the window. "We'll see what we can do", said the voice on the other end of the line. When I told him that I had a BMW, he said " Did you read the fine print". Sure I did. I made an appointment Dec.19th 2013 for there earliest and got in Jan. 6th 11am (Coldest day in Chicago in over 2 decades) and was told the job would take about 3 hours. The wait was not bad, their separate waiting room with movie seating, flat screen TV and cable and a heater but still cold in there. The work was done in about 2.5hrs and I was very happy, very nice man took me out to my van and showed me how to use my new fob/starter and then made sure I was able to use it. *NOTE the fine print on GROUPON- extra charges (very by vehicle) if your key has a chip (mine 2006 Chevy Uplander was $74.99) as well as * extra charge if you want keyless remote on same fob as your new starter ($40.00) (not needed if you have already have a fob to open doors, but means you have to use two different fobs when starting your car then opening the door) + City Chicago sales tax 9.5% paid another $138.19 at Ph.d Electronics Inc to do the job. so be prepared to pay $250-$300 total for starter and installation, Just sayin... I was completely disappointed by my experience with this shop. I had several things installed in my truck.. *Keyless remote * 2 12 in subwoofers *alarm *A flat screen. The job was done quickly and the people were polite. The bass coming from the freshly installed woofers were powerful but when I went in and asked for improving my sounds I didn't just mean bass, but that's what I got. I asked what I could do to even out the sound, something I asked about before buying the subs, and they told me to add tweeters. After the work was done of course. A couple months later the woofers died. Just stopped working. The remote starter was glitchy and worked when it felt like it The tv kept falling out of it case. Which blocks my view when driving. The worst my battery kept dying. So I called them up and they checked it out before the warrenty expired. And I paid $50 for new/replacement woofers. They screwed the tv on tighter, and "fixed" the keyless remote. Ever since then my battery dies on my truck. Now it's at the point where it's messing with the alternator. I've replaced the battery twice, after they "checked" the electrical system. The tv just hangs down and doesn't stay up which is an obstruction blocking my veiw. I can't take it off because they cut the roof fabric to install it. The keyless remote works when it feels like it. The ultra bass only worked for a couple of months after they reinstalled the new ones. I didn't feel like paying yet again for replacements if they were only going to work for a few months anyway. Clearly there is a problem with the way they set up the electrical and now I live with the fact that I must ALWAYS have jumper cables on me. My alternator is now on the fritz due to the over load and will have to replace that soon to. I just wanted to have a nice truck with sounds and Hassel free winter, a TV to keep the kids happy during long road trips... I regret ever walking into this place, my truck was better off without anything in it. At least I never had to worry about constantly draining the battery. They gave me a huge discount when I installed the things but I'm guessing it was only to pay for future bulcrap I was going to dealing with from their work. The alarm itself I can say has brought me an enormous amount of fatigue as a pin can't drop without setting it off! All night long! I bought it because I live in a not so great neighborhood but I'd rather not be hated by my neighbors so I leave it off. But it's glitchy.. and this is the funny part... When it's supposed to be off... I hope in and turn on the car and it goes off!!! Just randomly decides I'm stealing the car while driving so it goes off! I press the off button keep driving but the alarm light is still on and it goes off again. What a hoot!!! :-) At least I did get a smile with this expensive purchase! This place is a hood delight. Literally, the area is still pretty ghetto-tastic, but I didn't feel unsafe. The facility is old and janky, BUT you can tell they've put thought into working with what they have. My folks had a business in the hood, it's hard. They put in some dorky, but cute as hell, theater seats in a garage to make a waiting room. It's got a nice old school heater keeping it toasty. They put in a really pretty sink and back splash in a crusty old washroom. People may look at it as cheap. BUT, I think it's great to try to make the most of what you have. They were really fast putting in my remote starter. The service desk has electronic check in and point of sale. The gentlemen working there were just the right amount of friendly. They were busy and welcoming and didn't fake-kiss-your-ass. I plan on going back soon to get an audio upgrade. read more

Terrible customer service. Brought my car in to set up with a remote start and alarm system through a groupon I found the car worked fine then the battery died next thing you know the car doesn't want to start even after replacing the battery. As I was explaining this to the owner another customer came in with the same problem!Towed it to the shop where they recommended a mechanic that told me 101 things that could be wrong with it but guaranteed me it was the car not the system installed. Took it to pep boys where they were able to diagnose the problem in a heartbeat and had it repaired showing that the cars cpu system was disconnected and erased (during car system installation) and had to reprogram it. The shop claimed no responsibility as after taking the vehicle back showing the system they installed no longer worked they attempted to charge me again but said it's not their fault if it happens again. I went into another shop and they fixed it within a few minutes. I'll never visit here again and watch out for how they treat their customers. read more

So much so that my parents bought the same Groupon and had a starter installed a few weeks later when they visited the city. The only reason I'm giving 4 starts instead of 5 is that there was a slight mistake made with my starter system. Evidently, depending on the type of car you have, you may or may not have to purchase an extra module to make sure all works as it's supposed to. When I had the starter installed, they mistakenly told me that I didn't need the extra module. That following week, the starter wouldn't work so I called and they explained I in fact did need the extra module. So while I understand everyone makes mistakes, I had to schedule an additional Saturday to take my car in again to have this module installed. However, PH D gave me a sizable discount for my trouble, so this helped make up for it. But again, overall very pleased and happy with these guys. Knowledgeable and professional. I decided to call around and price them. I called 4 stores and they all said I needed a bypass for my 04 Santa Fe' which all was over $200 bucks. I then decided to just call phd to see what they said. Jay informed me that I did not need a bypass and many companies state that to get extra money but not them. I was impressed by his honesty and decided to purchase the groupon. Once I got there I was greeted by friendly staff and was quoted 3hrs for installation but luckily it only took 2hrs. I came here to get a remote start for my Mercedes, what I received was poor service and a 850 bill for a remote start that did not work! The technicians here had absolutely no idea what they were doing. After installation, not only did the product not work it caused my check engine light to come on. Needless to say I was pissed because this entire process that was promised to only take 2 hours took 6! I had originally called Tint World in Bensenville on another Living Social deal for a remote starter and was told I needed a bypass module for my 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe which would be an additional $149! I wasn't going to buy one after hearing that, but when I saw this deal come up, I thought I'd give it one more try. Ph.d told me I would NOT need a bypass for my car and were able to get me in 2 days later for installation. It took around 2 hours for installation and I did pay an additional $49 for a 2nd key fob and programming of the door locks, but it was well worth it (especially with the additional 20% discount I received from Living Social the day I purchased). 42yr Female I purchase the CompStar 700 and had it installed 6/2014 I came in told them what I wanted which was nothing special. Something that is going to make noise I don't need car starter, or a pager just an alarms that's going to go off when my car is being tamper with. I purchase the Compustar 700 it came with 2 key remote. after the installation I was told that I no longer needed my old keyless remote that operate that factory alarm that came my car which unlocks and locks, open the trunk and activate the factory alarm. Because the new alarm keyless remote would replace and do everything that the old alarms does. I was showed how to operate the new remote. he unlocked the doors and locked the doors. kicked the wheels to set off the alarms, popped the truck. and sent me on my way. Now the following week the remote would not operated the car as in unlocked or locked. I'm now having to use 2 difference remote to operate my car. example the OLD remote to lock and unlocked and open the trunk. and the NEW remote to activate the alarm I called to complaining about the alarms system and I was told that I never was told nor shown that the remote would open the doors and all that was installed on my car was the shock senor, and if I wanted those other feature to work i would have to pay addition cost.
