Tracy responded within about a half hour of that request via text and asked me when I would like to make my appointment. I asked if any openings were available today and they responded with yes, so I set that up. Jesse and another repair person came out to my house within the allotted time window, and were very cordial and professional. They were upfront with their pricing, and explained what they believed the issues were. They were also very specific to note that the cost might increase if the issues required further investigation. Fortunately for myself and my roommate, the issues appear to be as the repair people suspected. No more leaky toilet or kitchen sink (the sink had been an issue for awhile). I highly recommend this company for their promptness, professionalism and all around cordiality. They also appear to read the requests for individual accommodations (i.e. texting over speaking on the phone).

It is the kind of news that makes you sick to your stomach: you need an entirely new HVAC system…read more Heating AND air. This is the news I got from Eddie Hughes (and two other HVAC companies). We chose to use Hughes because when Eddie came to the house to give the estimate, he quickly and expertly diagnosed (and explained) the issues in terms that my husband and I could understand. He also answered multiple phone calls as we had a lot of questions. Part of the plan was to add a large basement return which entailed cutting through drywall (you can imagine how messy that is) into a wall in our finished basement. The new return is there but you would never know it was installed that day! Matt and Steve didn't leave one speck of drywall or dust (amazingly). I can't say enough about Hughes Mechanical and the great, honest work that they do. Do yourself a favor and use this company.

I hired Hughes to replace an AC unit at one of my rental properties in Baltimore. I had previously…read moreused them for other smaller jobs and was overall pleased with their service. One of their technicians came out to inspect and service my three apartments, and he recommended replacing one of the units that was an older model and not functioning as well. He connected me with Jason (one of the owners), who gave me a quote, and I agreed to move forward with it. The technician who came out to replace the unit didn't seem as experienced, but he was very polite and professional. He kept the job site clean and communicated with me often. A few hours after the job had been completed, at 11:30 at night, I got a call from my tenant mentioning that the house reeked of gas. I called the technician and texted another, but no one answered. So I went on their website, which says "Emergency Services Available," and tried to call the mainline, but no one answered. Eventually, I was transferred to a call center that said "all of our technicians are busy helping other clients" and that they would call me back in 2 minutes. No one did! So we called the fire department, which came out and identified the source of the problem. Hughes used an old existing gas hose to connect the gas line to the new system. That hose was not compatible to the new AC, so it leaked gas. As a result, the fire department shut off the units and the gas supply to the house. Hughes came back the following morning to replace the hose and fix the problem. When we turned the gas back on to the house, my hot water heater which is fairly new and had been working perfectly fine, wouldn't operate. The pilot light was not coming on, and Hughes sent two of their technicians to look at it. They mentioned that the gas valve to the hot water heater was no longer working and that they had to replace the part. The plumbing supply company was about to close, so the technicians said they would be back in the morning with the new part to replace it for me. The next morning I get a call from the owner, Jason, saying that the part wouldn't be available for at least two days and he wanted to charge me $600 for the job. He actually tried talking me into replacing the entire hot water heater ($2,400 and offered to give 10% off). It turned out that my hot water heater was still under warranty, so I called the manufacturer, who shipped out the part at no cost and hired another plumber to install it for a fraction of what Hughes was quoting me. Their website says, "Educate, Not Sell." It sure didn't feel like that. Hughes fixed a problem and created another. The least they could have done was offer to fix my hot water heater after all they put me through. I'm sorry to say the experience overall was frustrating, time-consuming, and generally disappointing, as I no longer feel I can rely on/trust them with this important work. I wish the outcome had been different.

Two hours later he still had not fixed the problem and said he was going to need a senior technician. The next day we called and they said they would send someone between 12-5, but again they could not give us a more defined window of time or even let us know if we were near the beginning or end of the route. This time we waited til almost 7pm for them to arrive. After working for an hour they decided they needed to order a part. Within 30 secs I located the part for sale online at numerous outlets after demanding the part number. Tech refused, and left. After I finished working (from home) I realized the tech left all of my frozen food on the floor. New tech comes out with replacement parts after weeks of arguing with management. The initial diagnosis was incorrect. All of my newly purchased food went bad. New tech orders correct parts. Comes out two more times and eventually fixes it. I try to cancel after the poor experience and I am told I was locked into a contract and cannot get out. They bully me into a $300 buy out. After an entire year, I speak to a manager on the phone who admits it was all wrong, yet gives me only $100 of the $300 back. From top down, this company is full of crooks.

The project required disconnecting and capping the water lines; disconnecting and capping the gas line; capping the exhaust line; and removal and disposal of the tank. Len the Plumber quoted $1100. Jeff was able to complete the job for $450. Last month, while traveling out of town, my wife called to tell me the hot water tank was leaking. I gave her Jeff's number and asked he to call him, telling him that I would be back in town in early afternoon. Jeff and his apprentice met me at 3:30pm as arranged and replaced my tank within 90 minutes. It was relief to have a professional available for an 'emergency' that I could count upon to show up on time and take care of the problem immediately. We've been a Petro customer for decades. They provide oil and service for a home backup heating…read moresystem. Generally, we've been satisfied with their work and products, yet we've been allowed to run out of oil unknowingly during cold weather as was just experienced this month (February 2026) which left us without heat. at its lowest, our home registered 44 degrees F! We watch the tank fuel level, but the app indicated we had 12% fuel remaining when the tank was empty. Yikes! Thus 3 stars for Petro - the organization and system. Good News: Dee Dee from Petro in Baltimore County showed up within 24 hours of our call for emergency service. She checked the entire system, dropped 20 gallons of fuel, restarted the furnace and waited until heat was reliably being produced. She was thorough, professional, and tidy. Amazing technician that represented the company well. She deserves 5 stars! So, we've learned to watch the tank gauge more carefully and ask for DeeDee if/when we ever need service again.

I am writing with a second formal complaint regarding Petro's service at my home and to demand…read moreimmediate action to resolve the serious issues caused by your technician's work. On or about [date], my home ran out of heating oil and I was left with no heat. I contacted Petro and was informed that my tank was empty. Petro dispatched a technician to address the no‑heat condition. Your technician stated that he would put approximately 10 gallons of diesel fuel into my system "until my delivery arrived" and then proceeded to run the system. As a direct result of this action, soot was blown through my vents and into my living space. My walls, ceilings, and other surfaces are now covered in soot. I have never used diesel fuel in my tank before and relied entirely on Petro's professional judgment as my fuel provider and service company. Since this incident: My home has visible soot on walls, ceilings, and surfaces. My vents and air ducts have been contaminated and require professional cleaning. Members of my household have begun experiencing symptoms (such as [headaches / coughing / breathing irritation - describe briefly and truthfully]) that started after the soot and fuel exposure. A technician came out on [date] to "assess the problem," but as of today I have not received a clear written explanation or a concrete plan to fully remediate the damage. Because the contamination and damage arose from the actions of Petro's technician while servicing my system, I expect Petro and/or its insurer to take responsibility and promptly cover all reasonable costs to restore my home and protect my health. Specifically, I am demanding that Petro: Pay for a professional cleaning company to thoroughly clean all affected walls, ceilings, and surfaces to remove soot. Pay for professional HVAC and air‑duct cleaning, including cleaning and inspection of the furnace/boiler, flue, and heat exchanger to ensure safe operation. Pay for repair or replacement of any equipment or personal property damaged by soot or by the misuse of diesel fuel. Reimburse any reasonable costs for temporary lodging and alternative heat if a qualified contractor or medical professional determines that my home is unsafe to occupy during remediation. Reimburse the reasonable costs of medical evaluation related to symptoms from this exposure, to the extent covered by your liability insurance. I am in the process of obtaining written estimates from professional cleaning and HVAC companies and will provide copies, along with photos and any medical documentation, upon request. Please confirm the correct mailing or email address for submitting this documentation and the name and contact information of the person handling my claim. This is my second complaint about this matter. The lack of heat and the soot contamination have significantly affected my use and enjoyment of my home and my health. I am asking that Petro open a formal claim, assign it to a specific representative, and provide a written response within 10 business days of receiving this letter, confirming: The claim number and assigned contact person. Whether Petro accepts responsibility for the damage and contamination. The steps you will take, and the timeline, to fully remediate my home and address the costs listed above. If I do not receive a satisfactory written response within 10 business days, I will have no choice but to pursue further remedies, including complaints to state consumer protection authorities, a claim with my homeowners insurance, and consultation with legal counsel regarding recovery of all damages. I prefer to resolve this matter directly and cooperatively with Petro, but I need prompt, serious action to address the damage and health concerns your technician's actions have caused.
