Doug Bamford went above and beyond, cleaning, adjusting, and repairing our previously only semi-working boiler. In the 20 years we have lived in this house the heat has never worked this well and I expect we will see some reduction in our electric usage this winter. But even more importantly, the boiler is significantly safer thanks to Doug. He quickly identified and repaired several hazardous problems including a part installed backwards (!) other HVAC "experts" had missed over the years. Highly recommended! read more

Doug came out on a Sunday. We called him about a kitchen drain leaking into the lower-level bathroom. Water was gushing down whenever the kitchen sink faucet was used. He arrived on time and was able to identify the main problem, a separated joint, after a short investigation. He repaired the break in the line perfectly. He also identified a much smaller leak further up the line. We will probably have him fix that on another visit. We are very satisfied with his work. Doug is friendly and professional. Very helping advise. Had a leak in my basement I couldn't find, after honestly 50 questions from the plumber I realized my leak happened after turning on an outside shutoff valve on. He took time to explain the issue to us, provided recommendations immediately, and continued to make us feel valued as customers. So nice as a homeowner to have a plumber you can rely on! Polite, professional, prompt. Very responsive to calls/texts. With generations of knowledge behind him, Doug knows well the pipes and drains of years gone by not just the brand new pretty stuff of new construction. He is willing to explain the issue, suggest courses of action and give pricing up front. He does what he can to work with the existing and doesn't pressure sell new or high end items to pad his bill. We were referred to him for our kitchen sink and he did such a great job we have called him again. I called because I had a leak in the upstairs bathroom of my rental property which was leaking into the living room ceiling. Doug came out, assessed the issue and quoted me a price of about $900 to repair. He said he would send me a written estimate. I bugged him for about three weeks to send the estimate and when he finally did, it was for over $2,000!!! I was so appalled that the estimate doubled for no apparent reason that I called a different plumber (George / Thomas Plumbing) who went out and quoted me a price of $195 to replace a part. He was able to fix it on site and no issues since. Can you imagine paying $2,000 for something that should be $195?!?!? Shameful! I don't appreciate being taken advantage of by crooked companies! read more

Very professional and comforting to know that the plumber hired is willing to think outside the box rather than suggest an outrageous solution that would cost a lot of money. I am inexperienced with the pricing scheme, so I cannot speak on how cheap or expensive the services are. However, if I were to say anything negative, it would be that there were no receipts (probably because I didn't ask for any). I checked Yelp before scheduling my plumbing service and these folks were at the top of the local list. They didn't disappoint. My wife had to handle the visit since I was at work. She HATES to deal with contractors as they typically try to rip her off (she is quite timid). I tried to be my own plumber and ended up cracking the main water pipe coming into my house. After 300 gallons of water on the floor and a visit from the fire department to shut off the water, I decided my plumbing career was over. I called Doug up mid-day and told him my situation. Everyone one else i had called said they wouldn't be able to make it out until the next day, he was able to come out that evening. In a couple of hours he chiseled out some brick and got to the source of the pipe to fix it up. Prices were reasonable considering the expedited service and would definitely use him again in the future. Thanks to him I was able to take a shower that night. read more

Bamford was a pleasure to deal with and will be my first call for any plumbing issues I have in the future. I selected them because of the fantastic reviews on Yelp, and those reviews didn't let me down. Here's what I hate about plumbers: -Not punctual -Unecessarily expensive -Often seem untrustworthy. Doug was very busy when I called, but got me scheduled for 10am the next day. He called me that night to get a better description of the problem so he would be prepared, even letting me text him pics (excellent personal service you won't get with a massive company). I expected a call 20 minutes before he would be arriving, but because he finished early his wife called to see if he could come early, 'um, absolutely!' We ha d a few issues/concerns, but no major work that ultimately needed doing. Doug didn't charge me the standard $80/hr you'd expect, instead he charged me $38 just for the service call, which was awesome. He was very straightforward and trustworthy. Even telling me what I could do to check fixes and make fixes myself, rather than charging me for something I COULD do (but didn't know how). He'll be straight up and isn't out 'to get' your money, He wants to solve the problem, in whichever way is best for his customers. And I appreciate that. Currently he's looking to expand his business, but as he is the ONLY plumber, there are some jobs he can't fit in right now. So if you have a major renovation, or large project, call and check with him. If he can't do it, he'll put you in touch with someone that can. But if you have a needed fix or small job, Doug will be there with bells on. I'm glad I called Doug and will call him in the future for other jobs. read more

Doug is great. First you make the call... over the phone you tell him the problem. He gives you a quick overview of what he believes is the problem and a rough estimate. You schedule a time. He is quick, responsive and on time. On the job he is professional and explains everything in great detail (even when it's clear some of us know absolutely nothing about plumbing). He does the work which exceeds expectations and then you get the bill and it is significantly less than his rough estimate because he was able to fix the problem without any difficulties. I have used him twice now and referred him numerous times. I'm glad he's young-ish because he will be our plumber for a very long time. Our issue was a very leaky bathtub faucet. He was able to replace the ball joint easily (had the parts on hand) and resolve the issue. While here he also took a look at a toilet that took a long time to refill it's tank after flushing. Doug is great! This morning he came out to relight my pilot light. I had tried and couldn't get it to work. But here's the great thing. He showed me what I was doing wrong, and how to do it right. He could've kept that knowledge to himself, and if so, I'd have to call someone to do it again. But instead, he showed me how. And now, I will call him first each time. Totally in agreement with all the other 5-star reviews. We are new to Baltimore and are remodeling an old house. My husband found this company here on Yelp. Although it was a weekend, Doug added us to his already busy schedule and kept us updated on when he would be available. He finally got to us on Sunday afternoon and worked until it was done 4 hours later. Finding a reasonably affordable, relatively available, and experienced plumber is a difficult task. I screened several plumbing professionals (large and small) over the phone; Was not comfortable providing a pre-estimate deposit during scheduling. After discovering this one-man plumber on Yelp, I made the call - figuring I would continue screening the next 5 plumbers on my list. Once Doug answered my screening questions (and those specifically pertaining to my plumbing issue), and recognizing my plumbing issue was not urgent, I willingly scheduled an appointment. I am quite pleased with my decision. Doug was extremely proficient, thorough - going beyond the normal as in preventative maintenance, as well as cleaned the workspace afterwards. Because of my own schedule, I watch the clock so my only ( minor) concern was the duration of the visit which had no bearing on the service price (quoted earlier). Nonetheless, my kitchen plumbing has been in working order since. I found this service exceeding my expectations, affordable, and recommendable. Happy to add yet another 5* review to Doug Bamford's incredibly long list! We had a sewage backup into a toilet and tub the same Sunday night my grandson moved in to stay while he attends University of MD College Park....in the bathroom that he would be using....not a happy beginning! I called my handyman who usually fixes everything and, when he saw what was now inside my bathroom he said I had to immediately call Baltimore County, this was dangerous sewage! They came out within 30 minutes and cleaned out the lines from the house to the street but did not find what was causing the backup. Therefore, at about midnight Sunday, after finding Bamford with tons of great reviews on Yelp and Angie's List and noting that he could be phoned until 1AM, we called. He was on another job but said he'd be here in about 30 minutes...and he was. First star immediately. After diagnosing the situation and giving us what we considered a quite reasonable price, which we put on the credit card, he got to work. After he completed the cleanout even though not yet finding what caused the blockage, he felt the toilet was flushing ok, so we thanked him and he left. Imagine our dismay when the next flush occurred in a different bathroom and the "fixed" toilet backed up again! We called Doug and he immediately turned around and returned! ***stars added here. Apparently the toilets were hooked together somehow and he had to find out where the problem was originating and he'd have to go to the next level of more intensive snaking with different equipment because the blockage was likely now along the top or stuck to the side of the pipes. So he gave us another estimate -- after all, what could we do? This HAD to be done! -- and after another hour or more of work, the problem was finally found: Exactly 4 wipes had somehow by mistake found their way into one of our 4 toilets and caused the backup. (Folks! No wipes are truly flushable!!!! Don't be fooled!) And because our home had a large addition, 2 of our bathrooms were hooked together and the other 2 were on their own system, causing a great deal of difficulty in finding the problem. At 2 AM Monday morning, Doug was patiently explaining all this and instructing us how to avoid future situations. This guy is still standing on his feet, not grabbing the paid receipt and running out to his truck for home. I'm up to about 8 *********** already but they won't let me post them. They're for you to know never to listen to another "Plumber" joke. Just call Doug Bamford. He's a whole new species. You're probably expecting our final bill was a few thousand dollars. So wrong. After all this, on a Sunday night, it was under $700. And, oh yes, the bathrooms were spotless when he left. The cleaning lady I had begged to come and clean up the horrible mess after the plumber would leave walked in at 2 AM, took one look, turned around, and went home. Not one mud (or worse) spot anywhere, fixtures that literally shone, sparkling. 100*s for Doug Bamford. 10/11/21 - Correction: My bill was not $700 but less than $500! Instead of adding the additional work done to the first estimate, this incredible man subtracted the first amount, leaving less than $500 total for this epic repair! Incredible - Called Bamford because of toilet flooding into basement on Saturday evening. First piece of free advice was call the city and have them check their clean-out, a free service. After the city came by I let Doug know we still had a problem. He was just finishing a job nearby and said he'd come over in a few minute. Doug spent about a half hour helping isolate the problem, which turned out to be something I could fix myself. I asked Doug how much I owed him, in order to pay for service and Doug's response ..... Excellent Service! I called this afternoon and explained the clogging situation in one of my bathrooms. Toilet kept clogging and now the sink and tub were always backing up with water. We had no idea what could be the problem. I called Doug up and came right out to help with our problem. He had everything cleared up just under an hour. He came in and went straight to work. Doug was a lifesaver! I had a clogged toilet, a 2nd slow flushing toilet, and a shower leak from the water regulating knob. Of course all this was happening just a few hours before the arrival of guests. The first company I called was a no-show, so I was in a panic. Doug was able to come the same day, actually arriving a few minutes early. He expertly fixed all the problems, was quick and very neat. I am so appreciative for this company. In the middle of having tile floors installed we lost all water. When you're on a well, that's a big deal! I encouraged my dad to call this company based solely on reviews. Doug came out within twelve hours and worked so hard to get our water running again! He could have told my old, gullible dad that he needed a new well pump in addition to the electrical fix necessary to get the water going again. Bamford Plumbing is great! I had a clogged pipe and water was backing up and leaking out of my AC condenser. I called around a few places and they either would not give me a quote, or was estimating at least $400. Doug was the only one that was straightforward with his pricing methods (total cost in the end was about $300). He came on time, got right to work, and even cleaned up after himself. While fixing the pipe,he was very patient with my questions and explained how everything worked. Afterwards he also answered a few of my other plumbing-related questions. Doug just left our home. Our pilot light for our hot water heater wouldn't come on, but not only did Doug fix it, he showed us how to do it for ourselves the next time it goes out. He was a really, really, really nice guy. Totally helpful and allowed us to show him some other things around the house and in the yard that we were concerned about plumbing and drainage wise.
