I honestly wish I could give this sad store no stars! Pros: It's in Long Beach Cons: -Animals are malnourished -Cigarette buds all over -smell is terrible! -when I got there the cages were filthy and most of the animals looked sick! -terrible customer service. The guy was rude soon as we tried looking at a bearded dragon. Overall this is by far one of the worst reptile places I have seen. I live in San Diego and I commute to work in LA so I thought I should stop by this new shop. I shouldn't have wasted my time here. World serpent exotics or reptile factory is by far better. I just feel bad for the malnourished animals. Wouldn't risk spending my money here before I end up wasting it in the future! Owners now days is all about money over everything! My boyfriend and I decided to go check this shop out and was very pleased! Many rare reptiles and owner is so cool and just really knows his shit. His reptiles are very tame. You can tell he cares for all his animals which makes me feel very at ease with purchasing our first reptile from him because he can answer all of our questions about our new baby. Originally had intended to get a male rhino iguana but ended up with a beautiful female bearded dragon. Can't wait to pick her up tomorrow and get her home ready for her. Walking up to this place, I was greeted by a sea of discarded cigarette butts, and a sign that read grand opening"!... After that, it went south, and quickly. As a reptile enthusiast, and keeper (for decades), I am severely appalled by the horrible conditions that this store owner allows his animals to exist in. Upon entering the establishment, I was immediately embraced and therefore suffocated by the stench of reptile excrement. The cages are filthy, literally months of fecal matter festering in all of the animal enclosures, inadequate lighting/heating, and incorrect setups for most of the reptiles (terrestrial snakes kept in arboreal setups, as well as terrestrial tarantulas kept in arboreal setups). Many of the reptiles were malnourished and stressed, such as a monitor pacing back and forth in a cage no longer than the length of his body. Even the large tortoise at the front of the store window was sitting in a playpen box with mounds of "old" and "new" fecal matter. Also, a large reticulated Python had no water in his/her water bowl. Meanwhile, as all the reptiles are suffering, the owner and his friends set up camp in the middle of the establishment consuming lunch in the midst of all the fecal stench! Shame on you "store owner" and shame on all these Yelp reviewers (assuming some of these reviewers are the owner's friends) for giving this place 5 stars when clearly the reptiles here are mistreated and neglected. My only regret is not having taken any photos to post but I was too angry to stay in the store while everyone pigged out - completely oblivious to the animals needs, much less the patrons who have to endure the incredible aroma that made me gag upon entry, and leave after doing one quick lap through this cesspool..... I'm surprised I lasted as long as I did in there. This store should not be allowed to stay open under these foul conditions. I hope this Yelp review is read by the owner and his friends.... Clean up your store, try getting there an hour early every day to spot clean the enclosures. It's not that hard, and it isn't healthy for the animals or your clients, to have to endure that kind of filth. P.S. If this is the Grand Opening of your store, there is little hope for you and your animals success. read more

I bought a Moroccan uromastyx with no problems. I then decided to buy another and that's where the issues began. The owner tried to sell me a uromastyx that was clearly older than the original I bought. I made it clear it was important for me to have two uromastyx around the same age. He assured me it was and when I took home, it was as suspected. It way bigger than my uro. No problem, he gladly took it back and he confirmed he would call me as soon another the same age of my uro, was available. He agreed one would be available within a week. A week went by and no call, I decided to call and he said to follow up within a week. I kept calling to get updates, it was frustrating because it was him who promised to call me with an update, it never happened. Fine, I set that aside still giving him the benefit of the doubt. In the meantime, I kept reading up more and more on uromastyx from well established sites like deer farms who are well known and respected among uro owners and reptile experts. I found out my enclosure was too small for two uro so l asked the owner of JTK reptiles if he could price an appropriate housing and he did but the price was super high compared to other vendors. He agreed to hold off on me picking up my second uromastyx while I found an appropriate housing. This morning I called to finally come in pay for the enclosure but to my dismay, the enclosure is too small to what uro breeders/owners recommend. I decided not to buy it and get it else where. I asked for my second uro but the owner explained there were no Moroccan uro available and i need to wait. He tried to blame me for not picking it up earlier which makes no sense, how could I pick it up if the housing I have, is not an appropriate housing. Also, he moved to a shady part of long Beach and I wasn't going to come back. I asked for a refund as I was tired of driving back and forth and at this point, rather go somewhere closer to home. He explained his policy was no refunds just exchange. I explained how can I exchange for something he doesn't have!!! I was not going to take his Mali uromastyx and house it with a Moroccan uromastyx, it's two different species!! It does not bring me pleasure to write a negative review to a business who has many good reviews but given my experience, it was only fair. It seems the owner is all about the bottom dollar. Further, there is no mention of no refunds in his digital receipts, you have to rely on an old sign he dug up while I spoke to him. Buyer beware. Bryan: I did not come back after a month, I came back the same day to return the second uro you sold me! As a matter of fact, it was within 2.5hours of my purchase. I would love to see record of you ever calling me, it never happened. At this point, I hope you can refund my money, this way I can go somewhere else, can you do that? The store had a big variety of reptiles and anything needed, plants, vitamins, feeders, you name it. There were so many different snakes and lizards, and they all looked pretty well maintained. Of course some of the tanks were dirty, but it's expected. I do have one complaint, when the lady at the desk brought out a corn snake, she dropped it to the floor. The snake was fine, and I did buy one of the other lavenders, but I still wished they were handled more carefully. Other than that, it was a great place. Would go again! read more

Today is the 4th day of the New year, and I must say I'm excited and thankful its finally 2018. I had the opportunity to intern at JTK Reptiles. My passion for reptiles and animals alike made me reach out to Brian who was located an hour away from home. I called him up and just told him I'm coming in to help because I'm bored and he has a lot of cool animals. Brian was so open and welcomed me in. The next day I showed up before he was open and after that it was 10am to 10pm all work an little fun we cleaned cages and fed a lot of mouths it was awesome and cant wait to go back. Living in Orange County, I am fortunate to have all the R Outlets & R Islands a stone throw away from my home. However when it was time for me to add another exotic scorpion and tarantula to my collection I was told to pay JTK a visit. There, I not only found a vast selection of species but also found the staff to have people skills on top of being very knowledgeable in their trade. When I first came into the store, I already went through 10 previous reptile shops to find the one I like the most. I chose to keep coming to this one. I come to this store often, when I say often I really mean it. Sometimes just to talk and ask Bryan some questions about the reptiles I own or might want. He is extremely educational and knows a lot about things he doesn't even carry in the store. I know I can get to be too much, but never have they ever hinted at being annoyed (which I know I can be at times, I like to talk). He works 7 days a week from open till closing (10pm). I give serious props to him. The store is organized and as clean as a store with that many animals can possibly be. Every time I'm in there he's always making sure things are getting done & spraying cages. Every precaution is taken to ensure the health and safety of every animal he owns. Ask about "the cheese" as Bryan calls it. I know if I buy an animal from this shop I would have absolutely zero problems or health issues that could possibly arise unless it's my error. The building is a little bit on the small side but that doesn't take anything away from the services that are provided by Bryan. The staff there takes the time to speak with you to make sure you get the pet you want and feel comfortable because Bryan actually cares more for the life of the pet verses the profit. That to me is a good sign that I came to the right place. i left their after he set up my cage for me! he also gave me piece of mind and informed me that he would also be there to help me if my Chameleon were to ever get sick. Finding a vet that actually handles Chameleons regularly is pretty hard, so the fact that he offers that was really reassuring that i was buying from an experienced breeder and not a wild animal. definetly coming back! read more

I drove 2 hours to visit this reptile shop because my friends all said it was amazing but I was honestly disgusted when I got there. The whole store reeked of snake poop and most of the animals were filthy and grossly overpriced. $550 for a normal ghost boa baby??? I just purchased an albino boa 2 days prior from Amazon Reptile Center in Murrieta for $165! No one greeted us when we walked in, nor did anyone offer assistance. I unfollowed this shop on all my social media because the stores cleanliness was horrendous and upsetting. I ended up driving across town to The Reptile Factory where I purchased a large female Jungle boa that's 100% het albino for $160 and their store was immaculate and their animals were priced fairly. read more

Wao people are so quick to judge .. I've seen stores such as prehistoric pets that make a lot of money and yet their animals have mites and their cages are dirty. People think and expect that animal cages will be super clean all the time and the truth of the matter is that animals are dirty lol even our own pets will make a mess especially after we just cleaned their cage .. all it takes is one person to make accusations and take pictures and or know the whole story . I work at PETCO as the reptile specialist and I absolutely love my job . I've been their for 10 years going on 11. I clean , desinfect the enclosures, i bathe the reptiles and make sure they are are not sick or have notes and if they don't look good I set them up and take to the vet . And yet it takes one customer to take a pic of a water bowl that a bearded dragon just pooped on to say our animals r not taken care off . It's unfortunate that people don't understand the reality of owning and running a shop. I'm sorry you are going through his crap . You have an awesome store . And unlike other reptile shops you are actually honest yo your costumers . I've bought so many beautiful and rare animals from this pet store. I love it ! Being that PET SMART advertises the best commercials, and promotes the best knowledgeable company pertaining to all pets is the biggest lie!!!!!! Long scary story short, Pet smart will KILL your pets. I bought an exotic reptile and took it to pet smart to get information. First, the person assigned to these exotic reptiles was about 18 years old. She "googled" what types of food it will need as well as the care. I was in disbelieve because I have that option available to me (idiot). Second, she attempted to sell me a cage "on sale " ($104), that mind you will need to be replaced in 1 year because according to Google and needs to be replaced..Lol. She offered me food for a 5 year old reptile (stupid girl). 3rd, she call for assistance, and another minor came and expressed that my pet was a female.(it takes one year to find out the sex). I sold Brian my Tegu several years ago. This was the first time I visited his shop and the first time I had seen him since selling him my tegu. Turns out, I came on the day that my tegu's babies were due to hatch! What a coincidence. I got to see a bunch of baby tegus hatch and held them. It was a wonderful experience.
