Came here out of curiosity (just to see what they had) and to buy some fruit flies. Honestly idk how this place got so many "positive" reviews. The parking isn't bad and not hard to find. I did appreciate the owner acknowledging my fiancé and I as we walked in despite him being busy. The actual store itself was not will lit, some animals were kept in poor conditions, and idk if this place had a/c or not but it was stuffy and it smelled so bad. Honestly I couldn't enjoy looking at the creatures due to the smell. There was a few fans running but i don't think that helps with the air flow. I didn't buy anything from here because one small container of fruit flies was $10.00 and they charge $1.00 fee if the purchase is under $20.00 when paying with credit/debt card. I decided to just go elsewhere. Honestly my review isn't out of hate or anything just on 1st impression only. They had a decent selection of snakes and lizards but not a good selection of insects or frogs. A few tarantulas and scorpions but not a good selection. They had a few tanks but more on the small scale and they had a good selection of decor and foods. I personally won't be going back but that's just me. Went in here for the first time yesterday to pick up a feeder for my snake, super sweet set up, so many things to see! Owner was feeding some animals when I got in that was cool and the girl working the register was nice. I was going to a smaller reptile shop in bixby knolls for the last two years but sadly they closed down a week ago, so I went onto Yelp to find a new small business to help support and I found this place which is actually closer to my house so extra plus! read more

It's like as soon as you walk into the establishment, you're overwhelmed with an ammonia type smell. Once you get inside you're hit with it full blast. The owner doesn't open up the store at the given open time. He shows up within minutes of opening and then doesn't open until after. Logically I'd think he would show up before hand to clean up the habitats or sweep or something of that nature but no. The habitats themselves aren't properly taken care of so it makes me question the overall health and well being of the animals in set establishment. I've been here quite a few times looking for different type animals and he either doesn't have what I'm looking for or if he does, it's extremely overpriced. I won't be going here anymore. Went in today to get a snake and setup, the owner was extremely helpful, and he gave us a discounted price on our albino rosy boa since we purchased the cage as well as a water bowl and another accessory. He answered all of our questions about feeding, care, handling, and made the entire process way simpler than I would have thought. Thanks man! read more

This shop really has everything you could need for your reptile. And they are open late which is super convenient. Brian and Miranda always answer all my questions with complete honesty. This shop is one of the dirtiest shops I've ever been to. The cages are filthy, water bowls are bone dry or defficated in. Many animals are housed in inapropriate setups. Fish and wildlife need to come close this operation down. The condition these animals live in are truly sad. How can some one call themselves an animal lover and run a storefront like this. read more

Bryan at JTK Reptiles is AWESOME and his animals are just as great! My cousins and I were visiting from out of town this week from Chicago and Bryan was super welcoming and allowed us to meet his reptiles and a few other critters. I've came to this place a couple times with my buddies. Never greeted with a simple hello, the owner just stands there watching us like a hawk. My friend gave him a one star review for the way his reptiles were,poor conditions, as soon as my friend walked in he and his employees said there's the one star guy and pressed him why he gave him a one start. I was about to spend around 600 or more on a black tree monitor and it's set up but I didn't once I had the monitor in my hands because it was super skinny the base of the tail was bone and skin plus a bad bite from the other monitors. When someone takes the time out of their day, and goes out of their way to drive long distance to shop at your store, one would think it wise to open the shop when the sign says it should be open. I showed up at 9:50am on Monday 11/6/17, planning on waiting until 10am for the shop to open, like the sign stated. I waited until 10:55am, and the shop was still not open yet. I guess he doesn't need the money? What a fail. Honestly, if you cannot open the shop at the time, as stated on Yelp, or on your door sign, leave a note on the door, or change the time you will be open, to a time where you can open up. read more

I will be going to this store because of the passion that they have for animals.i looked up top 10 reptile stores and found JTK as one of the top ones. I went on to yelp to read reviews and found the negative reviews by two people over and over again. As an outsider, the two humans that need to be so negative need to find some joy in their life. I love JTK Reptiles. Since the first time I walked in Bryan has treated me like if we been friends for years was honest and even gave/ helped me with advice with my own reptiles. I drove all the way from Ventura to his pet store and was worth it. I bought some rats just to feed his reptiles to show support and because his monitors are so cool! Would do Zero stars if I could. Went in to look at some reptiles and went back to look at the crested gecko corner and found 2 DEAD Crested Geckos. Not only were they dead but the were DECAYING!!! By at-least a week; they both had NO EYES and had BUGS crawling in and out of them. It was appalling. Then we turn to the right and see another giant lizard in a giant cage looking like it sleeping but it had no grip on the branch it was on and his stomach was severely caved in. I really liked this shop. I had been to a couple other reptile stores before coming here and what set JTK apart was the shop owner Bryan whom you could really tell absolutely loves his reptiles. I was looking for a bearded dragon because mine has recently passed away from what could be summed up as Petco's choice in bad breeders. Walked in and started looking around only to see that many of the animals here looked in really bad shape. The leopard geckos were very skinny and looked like they had mbd. The Fat tail geckos as well. I've seen many fat tail geckos that look nice and plump but these looked horrible. I'm sorry to say but there was also a dead baby bearded dragon. You'd think a reptile shop would know how to properly care for all of its animals but these all seemed to be doing bad. I will not return to this store. Like other people have stated there was a lot of poop in the tanks. It seemed like they had not been cleaned in at least a week. There were also a lot of dead crickets in the tanks. This was my first and last time going here. I originally walked in with the intent to buy a chameleon but after seeing all the animals and how bad they seemed to be doing I advise you to not shop from this place I did not feel comfortable seeing the animals in the conditions they were and as a result did not even ask for any help/advice from the owner. I was in there for a couple minutes and proceeded to leave because this place does not seem to know what they are doing. Just editing this because the dude has the nerve to say I asked him questions when I did not even engage in a conversation with him. I walked in at the same time a family of three did and he asked in our direction if we needed help and the family answered saying "not at the moment" and the owner said okay let me know if you guys need any help but I never even opened my mouth. And then he goes on to say there was no dead bearded dragon when I clearly saw it with my own eyes. At this point he can deny it as much as he wants but like I said after seeing that I will never go here again. And he also said that my intentions of going there were negative before even going there because I stated that other people have acknowledged the fact there was a lot of poop in the enclosures but I looked at the reviews after I came home so no I didn't go with a negative outlook at all. I genuinely went into this store with the intent to purchase a reptile friend but was shocked at how bad the animals looked so I left. Simple as that. Anyways. That's it. this was actually pretty sad. some animals were okay, but these things are all problems: - a lot of empty water bowls when i went in on 3-10-17 - a few water bowls that were actually scummy, so they hadn't been changed in quite some time - a lot of stuck shed, humidity too low - improper bedding in several tanks - sand under leopard geckos (causes impaction) & aspen for rainbow boas (strips humidity from the air) - not enough space for that poor croc monitor - the tank is barely as long as he is - a LOT of cohabitation & species clearly showing dominance & stress behaviors - the owner explaining to a customer how feeding in-tank causes aggression (there are pros & cons to each feeding argument, but feeding in-tank in & of itself does not cause aggression) the owner seemed kind, but some of these are old practices, some are just bad husbandry, & i can't recommend putting your money into this place unless the owner realizes that times have changed & processes have evolved, & there are better ways to care for animals. the one positive note was seeing some unusual species, like the croc monitor, blue tree monitors, some big black throats... but i just wish they were cared for like the owner claimed. read more

My family and I support this business 110% we were new reptilian parents and tried other shops but ONLY this one made us feel comfortable. Bryan is really awesome and there's never a question he can't answer. Also he gets to know fellow reptilian parents and asks about the reptiles like they were children. Speaking of which, him and his pretty lady often attend children events where they bring their reptile babies and bring comfort and awareness to those who don't own such exotic pets. I've been going to JTK for a couple of weeks, Bryan is pretty much as cool as as cool can be. He understands Sales and he genuinely cares for his animals. He is willing to work with you. if you are interested in big snakes, Retic' Burmese, he has some big ones so you can hold them, because he wants you to know for sure you can handle them when they are bigger. Okay.. so let me first start out by saying that I normally check places out like this on yelp and read the reviews before heading over. To be honest, this place has mostly 5 stars, with the exceptional few hippies that think everything should be perfect in a perfect world. I chose to ignore the one start reviews because obviously the 5 star reviews out weigh them by a long shot. Moving forward. My experience at JTK reptiles was absolutely great! I went in with my family, and inclined to ask about ball pythons.. instead trying to sell me one he (Brian) started talking about them. All kinds of fun facts and showing me one after another. I asked several questions and he answered all with extreme detail. (Exactly what I wanted) by the time he answered all of my questions, I felt confident in actually taking a ball python home. As I was only going to "look" and get information! To my surprise, I walked out with and now own a healthy baby ball python. Brain knows his shit and is very passionate about his animals, I have since then called and talked to Brian about my python several times asking more questions about certain optimal terrariums conditions, again happily answered all questions. For anyone reading this that's on edge about checking this little gem out in LB... don't be! It's awesome. He's got tons of snakes and lizards. Some very rear. Some really odd.
