I know my Malinois-Pit mix would go crazy over those, but I admit I am not prepared for a fish breath scent, hahaha. By the entrance, we met several rescue guinea pigs & cats from a local shelter! How lovely that they're hosting these animals for adoption. We also melted over some adorable little mice & she checked out other reptiles, but she has her hands full. I've been going to Paw Shoppe for probably 2 years now since my kiddo started karate in the same shopping center. I have 3 ducks, 2 bunnies, a gecko, a dog and a cat. While I do have a monthly RX for Chewy.com, I stop here pretty much every Saturday for crickets or feeder fish, the occasional pet toy or treat and even in-between shipments. I was recently reminded why shopping local is so important. The owner of the shop (Bobby) is so generous, kind and honest. I guess I accidentally over paid for some rabbit feed the last time I was there and he actually held my cash payment for a month waiting to see me again so he could return it. I am forever loyal to such an amazing business and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! read more

Recently I took my dog for grooming there, she is usually seeing by Jennifer ((who has been great) but she was not available and was scheduled with the new groomer Kathleen, who charged $ 5 more due to "2 knots under her arm pit" which was not true, because I brush her very well before grooming, when I asked the cashier ,he told me to check with her, she insisted and I ended paying them $ 70 instead the usual $ 65. The same charge was done to my friend for her dog grooming. On top of all of these my dog had to stay longer there because she was running late. read more

One of the only petshops that knows how to take care of reptiles properly, lets you interact with the animals(if you're experienced of course: it helps tame them), and has fair pricing on items -especially Crickets and Hornworms! The staff is always super knowledgable and helpful and the animals are all alert, bright, and healthy. There are birds in the front and some of them will climb on your finger if you are patient. Sometimes they have kitties and you can open the cage and pet the cats! They carry all sorts of reptiles that are always interchanging as they are sold: geckos, bearded dragons, monitors, chameleons, snakes, tarlantulas, turtles, and crabs are amoung the ones I've seen come and go within a month. In the back there are mice and rats that you can get - mainly for feeding reptiles, but one momma rat had babies and a family adopted the babies as pets :) In the very back there are polywogs, betas, fish, and guinea pigs! The piggies have a nice large two level pen and you can pet them gently (approach them from the front not the back). All of the prices of their items ar every affordable compared to mainstream petstores like Petsmart or Petco, and if you purchase a new pet along with it you get 10% off! The supplies they sell are high quality and if a product doesnt work for you you can return it. The owner loves dogs and makes his own yummy baked doggie treat biscuits that he sells at the front in a little display case. The cages they sell are clean and apt sizes for the animals they offer - they don't trick you into buying too small a terrarium for your reptile, or tell you to use sand like some mainstream petstores do. I highly recommend this petstore as there is always fresh delivery of goods whenever I come in (I will browse the animals for an hour or two a couple times a week) and they take proper care of their animals and supplies read more

This is the best pet supply store in town. EVERYONE is friendly and helpful and they keep a tight ship. The only thing they didn't have was a floating turtle rock (that's the ONLY thing in four years) and the manager ordered it for me and it was there in a flash. They have a punch card system so I can earn some points and they sure come in handy. They've helped me with my Australian Sheppard, Chocolate Lab, red earned slider turtles and leopard geckos. I bring my 4 year old Pitbull to the Paw Shoppe for grooming. Every time, I am always satisfied with the service. The employees as well as the groomers are always super friendly and knowledgeable. The current groomer, Ruben, even went the extra mile to advise me on ways to help my Pitty with her itchy skin, something that is really common in Pitbulls. He also showed me a better comb to use when brushing her at home. She was treated very well and had an oatmeal bath for her sensitive skin. Looked adorable going inside, the cats are cute. Walking deeper I noticed a bunny alone inside of a small enclosure not really proper caging for the bunny (was too small) and the bunny was looking extremely depressed. Walked deeper into the store and notice another bunny in an even smaller enclosure (about the size of a hamster cage) and the bunny was 2x the other bunnies size and this one wouldn't even move it looked so depressed. Bunnies are meant to be placed together because they work better in packs. Here's where it starts to get even worse, I looked to my left and notice hundreds of little orange fish in one open, extremely small tub of water. There were dead fish on the bottom, dead fish floating out of the top and multiple on the pipe thingy in the picture. It was so hurting to look at and I felt so bad for these animals, the least I could do was say something, right? No! I went to the front where there was 2 ladies, one was an older blonde lady, another was a younger brunette. Both were chatting and laughing having a good time, I told the brunette lady that there were a bunch of dead fish in the bucket. Mind you, I don't like conflict, so I try to approach things in the nicest way possible and be respectful to the person I'm talking with. The brunette Lady mean mugs me and says "Okay?" with the biggest attitude ever. I said that I was just letting her know and I left. So rude and such an unpleasant and unprofessional experience. Customer Service 0/10 this place needs to be shut down! read more

I really like supporting this independent business rather than one of the chain stores. I only really buy dog food and they nearly always have my preferred brand AND flavor. Wow! Who knew participating in karaoke at Yankee Doodles would win me a prize that would lead me here! I received a $20 coupon for the Paw Shoppe and went there today to redeem my prize. What I found was a crew of friendly and helpful guys working there. Space, yes, lots of space for an independently-owned shop and a great selection of toys, treats, and food for my Penguin. Also, the store did not stink (I know, it may in time). My spoiled girl just got $75 worth of pig ears, snouts, rawhide, tennis balls, a new dog tag, and a stuffed amoeba shape. After I made my purchases, helpful Derrick signed me up for their APD program and another incentive program for spending x amount of dollars in their store. I didn't need it though. The whole pawsitive experience was incentive enough to return here when I need to restock on all things Penguin. Keep it up guys! read more

Been getting my crickets for my lizards here since I was a kid (it was in Lakewood back then). Now I have dogs and I'm jazzed about their food. They carry the big Canidae! Woo hoo! They also have real dog treats like the dried chicken and sweet potato strips, not crappy Milk Bones. I've been in pet stores all around Long Beach, and they are of the few that actually have feeder animals (mice, rats, worms, crickets). This was always an issue finding guys that carried this stuff when I was into reptiles big time. Plus, they let me bring in my dogs without getting all uppity. Very lovely little shop and a breath of fresh air to visit a small pet shop that isn't a chain store. They have a decent variety of critters. I've been coming here pretty much since they opened up. This place and its employees have been a God-send, truly! The employees are so knowledgeable when it comes to pets and their merchandise. They've gone out of their way to address concerns I've had with my pets in the past. They literally SAVED our leopard gecko when he appeared to be dying. Based on their suggestions and recommendations, Diego (our gecko) is now happy, thriving and better than ever. We've also saved money on expensive trips to the vet with our beloved Shepard/Husky when he's had some suspicious injuries (which turned out to be minor). My boyfriend and I stumbled across this store on our way to rite aid. We joked around about going in and finding the cats we wanted and sure enough we did. They had just arrived like 45 mins before we walked in. They appeared healthy looking. For only $150 we got both kittens, spayed and neutered, microchipped, and a pretty decent size bag of food.
