Ever since I moved nearby, Juan Loco has always been in a weird category for me. Their food is good, I love Mexican and Tex-Mex, but their menu doesn't really pull me in. I'm really not a fan of the 5 mini tacos they offer, not because they taste bad, but more because I don't want to deal with 5 little tacos And they only sell their larger tacos in packs of 3, which is fine, but I'd actually order from here all the time if I could just order single tacos and build a custom order the way I want it (similar to Osito's or Tacos 4 Life). And their cheese dip isn't "pure" cheese dip, it has something else mixed in like a chipotle ranch or something, I really don't know, but it's not really what I'm looking for. To me the biggest issue I have is just not being able to customize my order the way I want it because the way they've designed their menu makes me not want to order anything because I don't want to commit to it. I like the a la carte style. So anyway I decided today would be my once-a-year order from Juan Loco just to see if I'm making a mistake by not ordering here more often since it's literally right down the street from me. The food was good. The menu was still a point of frustration. So it's getting 3 stars from me mainly because I'm just not compelled to order from here. I want to. I keep trying. The food is good. Great, quick lunch spot for very tasty tacos. Love the free chips and spicy salsa while you're waiting for your order. This is a counter service restaurant, which is very casual and quick, so you order and grab a table, then they bring the order over. They a have a pretty large menu, so you will have a lot of good choices. We had 3 tacos each. They are street taco sized, so keep that in mind when ordering. The portion was enough for me though. We live and drive by this restaurant, and finally decided to try it. It did not disappoint. It is an elevated version of Chipotle. I ordered the Pastor burrito, and I really liked it! The burrito was large and stuffed with rice, beans, very tasty and tender pork and even a little bit of pineapple. There's really something for everyone on the menu--- options inside include fish, shrimp, chicken, and veggies. I think everyone can find something here. They also give you a tasty basket of chips with a really delicious tasking chipotle sauce. I only wish the basket of chips was larger The atmosphere is really fun. They've done a great job at making this place festive and unique. There's a mix of bench style booths and tables. Even though this place is casual, I would say this is a great place to hang out with friends and family. My husband had I visited Juan Loco shortly after they opened. We've been to their sister site, Burrito Loco in Mooresville, and were hoping the food would be just as good as BL. News flash - it is! I ordered the fish tacos, and my husband had the Chori Pollo Burrito. They give you free chips, salsa, and guacamole while you wait. The chips were so light and crispy, and the salsa had just the right amount of heat. The guacamole serving was generous and outstanding! You get two fish tacos with the order, both with double tortillas. These aren't just any standard corn tortilla out of a bag, either. They heat them up on the griddle, and fill them generously with whatever you choose. I had a reasonable-sized piece of fish in each, along with the perfect accompaniments of cabbage, pico, and poblano tartar sauce. These tacos were outstanding! My husband's burrito was huge and also nicely filled. It had just the right amount of heat from the chorizo. Service was friendly and efficient. Even though they are a new restaurant, they likely benefit from being a sister to Burrito Loco, as they were a smoothly-operating business. We'll definitely be back! read more

The hot dogs definitely sounded interesting but that is not what I was here for. Decided to try the chicken taco-they have them for $2 daily, chicken, steak or chorizo. It was cooked well and was pretty flavorful. After standing there staring at the menu forever I decided to go with with Loco Bowl. It was just ok for me. I was expecting more flavor and spice. The steak was chopped up pretty small and I kept getting hard pieces of rice. Definitely wouldn't order again. The meal also came with chips and salsa. Also just ok for me. This was my second visit to Juan Loco. I came here today with my friend and it was her first time. The manager is so nice and attentive. He took our order and made a few recommendations! I really enjoyed the quesadillas and loco tacos on my last visit so I definitely wanted that again. The meat is well seasoned and well marinated. The chips are made fresh on-site as well. If you like tacos, these are some of the best I've had. So very flavorful. My companion had the burrito and it was even better than my chorizo tacos. I'll get that next time. You'll order at the front, and they'll bring your food out to you. It is very quick. Each order comes with chips and salsa, but be sure to get some of the queso dip. It is made with either Velveeta or American cheese, but still so good! The salsas are fresh and delicious, the chips are also fresh and warm. Whether it's burritos, tacos, bowls or quesadillas they have an option. We have been there a few times and have always had a good experience. Juan Loco Taco is located in Cornelius in a strip mall with other businesses. They have a shared parking lot. The menu is displayed at the counter. You order and pay for your food first and then the employees bring it to your table. It was young people working they were courteous and provided good customer service. Had always heard good things about Burrito Loco in Mooresville but had never tried anything from there before. Based on those good things, it was great to hear they were opening Juan Loco in Cornelius in the space that used to house a Little Big Burger. Used their online ordering option via ChowNow and picked a few different items to try for our first takeout order. We went just with tacos ordering Carnita, Shrimp and the 5 mini hard tacos which are filled with house made chorizo as the meat. We also tried the Barbacoa and Carne Asada street tacos. We also got a pint size of their queso. The rundown on the tacos is generally quite good. Enjoyed them all save for the shrimp which had good flavors but the quality of the shrimp could have been better. Our favorites were the Carnita and the Barbacoa versions. A real plus on the quality and service side is when I went in to pick up the order they gave me a chance to take the queso off the order as it wasn't quite to their liking yet on the texture side, i.e. it was a little thin. They gave me a sample in a small to-go cup and it was tasty so I kept it on the order and was glad I did. I really liked that they cared enough about things to even make the offer. A good sign for sure. End of the day, a nice addition to the area and we look forward to more visits and more good food. read more

Ooof this meal was so sad. I ordered it on Uber eats and got the birria tacos which were absolutely not birria tacos. You can't put consommé on the side of shredded beef tacos and call that birria. The "made in house" chorizo wasn't the right consistency and if I was blindfolded I wouldn't know if it was chorizo or beef which have vastly different flavor profiles.
