The food was good and reasonably priced especially for the NYC greater metro area. This is a predominantly Hispanic area so maybe some other yelp reviewers had some agenda or problem with cultures other than their own And that why they left a bad review... because they misinterpreted one interaction. just the facts: I walked in, my order was taken within 2 minutes of me deciding. My food came out within about 5 minutes of ordering. They followed up and asked how everything was a few times and i was able to pay and leave as soon as i was ready to. It's a mom and pop type restaurant, not a 5* full service downtown NYC restaurant. And for what it is everything was great. read more

I've eaten here several times and usually order the same thing (steak with white rice and black beans), which is good. However, I recently ordered a mangu to pick up and after eating almost half of the plate I noticed there was mold on the mangu. I am very disappointed and disgusted, as this was one of my go-to restaurants and will never eat here again after seeing that. read more

Horrible place. Food is atrocious, service is bad. Waitresses will have you sitting there for an hour before you get to order or get your food. That is if you find one who can understand English. Prices are cheap though. I don't recommend this spot. read more

Cons 1. Garlic Sauce was too Vingery. 2. Plantains was Cold and Basic Flavor Standards. Maybe season them with Cinnamon and Honey to take it up a notch. 3. The Majarete pudding was too watery and expensive for it's portion size. 4. Sangria was HORRIBLE and it was done by the Owner according to my server. The Sangria was Overpriced for the lack of Flavor of $30.00. I had to purchase 2 Shots of Dark Rum and 2 Shots of Brandy with Passion Fruit Juice to give it some Flavor. I was so Disappointed that the Sangria was that bad it tasted like if they opened up a Bottle of Red Blend Bottle and poured it in my pitcher. 5. Masitas de Cerdo Frito needs more Flavor. Pros 1. This place has by far the worse customer service. They are rude as can be. The place could be empty and you'll still wait for everything. Today I went to pick up some croquetas for my son and i get pointed at then told to go there with an attitude. Because she could walk to the across to get the money. Then with an attitude give me the change back. Dont really understand why they treat their customers that way. Besides it being over priced food having servers like that make the whole experience horrible. Only good thing is if u need a drink after work or something since they have a bar. read more

All I can say is omg!!!!!! Was visiting my father in law and got hungry yelped this place and decided to give it a try. Needless to say I was surprisingly surprised the food was awesome. I had black beans and breaded steak. It was my husband and I and our two children. The kids ate everything on their plate didn't leave one morsel. Portions are ridiculous. Ambiance is meh but hey you can't want everything. The place can be brightened a bit. Went to the bathroom and it was ok but not to my standards of clean. There was the cable box on a shelf there and was tempted to change the channel but decided not to. Hehehehe. As far as the bill it was four meals and a takeout order for my father in law. It was 45 dollars great deal and we brought food back. Highly highly recommend if you want down home Dominican cooking at a great price. read more

One of my go to spots for good Spanish food. With alot of choices in the area it's sometimes hard to pick a place - JyG is hands down one of the best. This is a locals favourite in Union City. Great for brunch, with a full bar. The daily specials are one of the best bang for your buck in town. Great for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is highly annoying that this business like other neighborhood business impose a minimum purchase amount on debit card transactions. This is ILLEGAL. Minimum purchase amounts can only be imposed on credit card transactions. Every time I come here I'm forced to spend 10$ even though I use my debit card. If I want a $7 breakfast I have to buy 3 bottles of water to meet the $10 requirement. Also the service sucks but I guess for the prices you can't be to picky. The staff is always talking to each other or on their phone and it's hard to get there attention to order even when it's not busy. read more

This review is mostly for the lack of customer service at this restaurant. The food is OK at best, and with so many great Dominican restaurants in the area I would recommend avoiding this place. I had several bad customer service experiences at this restaurant since moving to this area. The first experience is that the waiter never gets my order correctly. I am a Spanish speaker, and I am Dominican. Somehow, my order is always confusing because I do not eat meat. I continued to go because i like to support my people. However, this example is nothing in comparison to my experience today. I placed an order for pick up over the phone and was asked to go pick it up 15-20 minutes later. I arrived at the restaurant 17 minutes after my call and was told that my order was not ready. I had been walking my small dog (10 pounds), so being mindful that I had my dog with me- I asked if I could pay and just wait by the door. As I was paying, the owner (Juana) walked by the waitress who was taking the payment and asked her to get rid of me and my dog. She said it in Spanish perhaps unaware of my ability to understand. I confronted Juana about what she had said, and she proceeded to try to gas light me and say that I must have misheard. Instead of apologizing, she started speaking about how entitled the youth these days are. I explained to her that I am a lawyer and not some child, and she looped in a guy that was sitting at the bar into the conversation. The details of the conversation are not important- The important part is that this Restaurant is too mediocre to have such terrible customer service. If you do not like to feel unwelcomed in places you are paying for, I would encourage you to avoid this place particularly pick up. This experience was so terrible that I threw out the food in fear she might have done something to it as I had to wait 10 additional minutes for my food after this encounter. So not only was my food LATE, but the owener had the audacity to try to gaslight me... so yea avoid this place. read more

Used to love this place, but it's understaffed and take out orders usually get mixed up. 3 stars for the food which is worthy of catering to any event, but the service is just hit or miss. Prices DO NOT reflect what they charge you. I'm taking a grad class at a school nearby this semester.. they could've had a loyal customer for at the very least the next few months. I got charged $2 more than listed on the menu for a to go order. $9 instead of $7. When I asked the waitress why she charged me more her only response was "sorry". I don't know what other people's experience with this place but mine was not so good. I came here with my Dad and expected to try new culinary. I found this place via Yelp. When I first came, it was crowded. I thought the food must be good. Not to mention the food, what made me give this place 3 stars was how they treated us. 1) the waitress spoke very little English. I can sympathize with this part cuz this area is Latino one. 2) It took so long for them to bring us an omelette, while they served other guests who came after us first. This pissed me off the most. 3) They didn't bring us the full menu. The menu they brought us includes only breakfast option: omelette, sausage, potatoes. We'd love to try their cushine not this ordinary breakfast. Their full menu is awesome, wide variety of choices. I'm sorry to say this but my experience here was not so pleasant. read more

This domenican family run establishment is not too far from where I live and is one of the many latin restaurants in the neighborhood. The two things that I keep coming back for is the Fish soup which and the Pan Con Mantekiya (bread with butter). Service can be slow even on their slowest days, so be prepared to wait. But the free bread on the table makes the waiting less painful. Staff speaks spanish only so unless you know what you want, ordering can be a challenge. They have daily specials and they are decently priced. My husband ordered the ox tail stew yesterday and he said it was delicious. I ended up ordered the vegetable with rice and red beans and rice and avocados( $3 each). Ox tail stew was a decent portion for $9. They also serve liqiour and they have fresh juices which I invariably order with my meal. Cheap,good latin food if you are around Union City. read more

I love this place. There is nothing bad in their menu. My favorites are the Mofongo with "chicharron" (pork skin) and cheese. The Mondongo (tripe support) is awesome.
