I just heard about this place from a neighbor. We tried it Saturday night and I was pleasantly surprised. The food was very good. The upstairs dining area was nice and they also have casual dining downstairs. Our waiter was Luis and he was friendly and helpful. Danny also helped with service and he was very nice as well. Everyone seemed to be having a nice time. The food was good. My fish was perfect for me since I am Gluten Free. We enjoyed our margaritas and chips and guacamole as well. I love coming to Las Palmas restaurant with my family. It's such a great restaurant for families. They serve delicious cuban food, they are known for their skirt steaks also known as Churrasco in Spanish. The food portions are pretty big. I like their appetizer sampler (Aperitivos Mixtos) it brought ham croquettes, meat patties, & pork rinds. I went with my immediate family, we were a group of eight people in total. The service was okay, they mixed up my bean order but I still ate what they gave me it honestly wasn't the biggest deal it was still quite delicious. I ordered Camarones al ajillo with black beans and white rice. It was phenomenal! My mother ordered herself a bandeja paisa, my brother in law ordered himself a skirt steak. We had a sangria to share as a family and it was quite tasty. I forgot to take pictures of the food as I was way too hungry. They have a lunch special which I think it's $27 but it's smaller. Dinner price it's $41 and it's good. I have been to this restaurant countless times. It has always been impeccable service and food. Today was the WORST service I have ever experienced. There were 2 servers and 5 tables including my party. They took about 10 minutes to bring the drinks. Then he brought out the steaks they were under done. It took another 10 minutes before the server brought the side dishes. Never brought dressing for the salad. We finished our drinks never offered us another drink, nor dessert. Our server was nowhere to be seen, we asked the other server and she ignored us. The grill cook saw that our table was needing help and told the server she replied annoyed that she knew. Reluctantly she returned to our table. By now, there were only 2 tables. 3 tables had already left. I spoke with the manager who only replied with I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I made my way to the 2nd floor as this is where I have been told is a bit of the fancier seating (they also have a 1st floor but more casual). We came on a Friday night and we were seated downstairs. We order ceviche, tostones con camarones and the churrasco. The three of us shared and it was more than enough. The churrasco was the best part of all three dishes. The ceviche needed more flavor it was a little bland. I didn't like that they chopped the shrimp for the tostones. Decided to get lunch from this restaurant. The order was called in. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and was greeted. I ordered the garlic shrimp lunch special and chicken empanada. I paid then left. When I bit into the empanada, I noticed it was beef. I had to return it because I don't eat red meat. Recently discovered this hidden gem and wow absolutely amazing. There are two floors downstairs and the upstairs for dinning and larger rooms for parties. Parking can be a bit hectic but there is a giant parking structure and lot right across the street. Service is friendly and helpful from the hostess to the server and everywhere in between. To start there's two floors downstairs is a to go slash diner sitting type feel (same menu) upstairs you have a fine dining atmosphere with a bar often a mariachi linen tables. Some walls are brick faced and it's a very great date night environment .. Service is great but be prepared to be patient if you don't speak English, they are very understanding of you don't but it's a primarily Hispanic neighborhood and client base but if you just point to what you want it always works out fun in case your waiting staff isn't great with English. I stood in the front waiting for one of the ladies to come. While they chat it up, sang to the song, and answered the phone which that I can't get at! Super disappointed by this establishment. I gave them two stars because the skirt steak was okay, nothing out of this world. The grilled chicken was over cooked and quite rubberish. The Cuban sandwich was pretty bland. The waiter also got most of our orders wrong and we had to wait to get our correct orders. To drink, we had margaritas which were also very disappointing. They tasted like they came premade. I think my biggest disappointment was how rude the staff was. Didn't expect this from this place, as it was highly recommended by so many. I'm gonna start this off by saying that I've been coming to this restaurant for years at least 10 or 15 years. Their food is amazing. Their prices are dirt cheap- $1 for an espresso as an example. The food is so unbelievably delicious, especially those sauces that they put out to dip bread into. Also, the server that has been taking care of us for years is so handsome! Their sangria is delicious and the food is scrumptious. Sadly, I will never go back. So the first thing that I noticed, is that delightful dipping sauce I mentioned? It is put out in these containers that are huge. And I was sort of analyzing that while we were sitting there munching on the bread and I said "Gee, do you think they just remove these from the tables and refill them? Because this is an awful lot of dipping sauces to throw in the garbage I would imagine they'd put out less at each table because if they're throwing them out afterwards, they'd be wasting a lot." it was at that moment that when I took a little spoonful of the green sauce, I noticed that there was a piece of bread already in there as if someone had dipped directly into it. No, I said. My mind is playing tricks on me. They would never ever do that. The spread of germs on doing something like that would be outrageous. OK, doesn't explain why at one of the stations they had dozens of these full and half full... I watched the bussers take them off the tables and put them in that area where they went right back out to other tables. It was a birthday dinner for My Son and again. This is one of our favorite places because we've been coming here for so long. There is nostalgia. So I tried to just ignore that or maybe my brain went into denial. I stopped eating sauces and ate my meal, which was delicious. We ordered a tres leche I'm not sure what happened because they used to make the best but the piece we got was really dense like an Entenmann's poundcake- It tasted like they just poured the leche on top. It was not soaked into the cake like you would have at a bakery and the frosting was crunchy. It had so much granulated sugar that it was like eating rock candy so that wasn't good. But the absolute saddest and worst part of the meal was when I stood up to put my coat on and on the wall underneath the ledge hiding in the shadows was a gigantic cockroach. My Son said "what is that???" And I said "no, no no we're not doing that. That's a fly. That's all that is." But I knew damn well it was a roach. my Son knew damn well that it was a roach. If the roaches are that comfortable coming out where people are sitting to eat then that tells me they're not doing pest control and they must have a lot of them. I was horrified. Absolutely 100% cannot ever go back there which sucks because , that was our spot. If roaches don't bother you then give it a go, but for me, it's a no go. I feel terrible giving this place one star because of the memories and food being so delicious but I can't reconcile cockroaches and reusing food items for numerous tables. read more

I grew up in North Bergen and in all my years living in Hudson County, I never found myself at Las Palmas (until now!), and in hindsight I'll never understand why! There was a good size crowd for the time we got there, and in my opinion that's always a great sign! 5/5 for the service, after we got seated our waiter came to take our drink orders. We decided to order two pitchers of sangria, one red and one white. In my opinion the red sangria felt a little stronger than the white; but regardless both were delicious. Where do I begin with the food? 1000000/5!!!! These are well made dishes. I'm a sucker for some mofongo and I will order mofongo at every new Latin American I visit. Las Palmas did not disappoint. The chicharrón was the perfect mix of crunch and mouth watering greatness. My friend ordered the churrasco, medium well. It was well seasoned, perfectly flavored and essentially melted in your mouth. Second time I ate here. The churrasco (steak) is definitely the well-known, star of the show here. At $37 it's a bit pricey, but for steak and the amount that you get, it's more or less a fair price. It comes out on a sizzling plate with lime and onion, and the red and green sauces they put on the table are great. I usually put those on top of the steak. The steak is cooked wonderfully (I asked for mine medium and was given to me as such) and is tender and delicious, and good size portion. The rice and beans were good, but nothing special, and same goes for the maduros I got too. Definitely a couple of annoyances as well, that almost brought this down to a three star review if not for the overall food, ambiance and overall service that kept it at four. If it gets busy here, you can be waiting for a bit, and the wait and reservation system seem a bit disorganized (this was my experience the first time I came here). They don't give any chips or bread to start. Not a big deal, but would be nice to have some chips with the sauces they put on the table as a starter or while you're waiting to put your order in. We were initially going to order fish (the flounder and snapper), but the waitress told us it would be about an hour to make. I appreciated the heads up, but why would it have taken an hour? It seems like they don't serve tap water, as when I asked for "just water" they gave me bottled water and charged for it. Having to buy bottled water and not having the option of just water in a glass with the meal is a pet peeve of mine. Just bringing a water bottle out without mentioning that they only have bottled water comes off as grubby and not to mention (I could be wrong about this), I don't even think they can even do that. Finally, when the check was brought, it wasn't mentioned that there's a fee to use a credit card. I say this again (although from a different experience), if I would have known they charge a credit card fee, I would have used cash on hand instead of paying more for no reason. Restaurants have been doing this more and more lately, and I don't think it's right that the consumer is responsible for a fee to allow the restaurant to accept your money. Anyway, that's my little rant on what grinds my gears. Overall a good experience besides those nuances, and although I won't be a regular here, I'd likely come back prepared this time if I'm in the area and craving churrasco. read more
