I recently visited this restaurant for the first time. When we walked in, we were seated quickly, which was a great start. There was also a DJ playing and the music was really good, creating a fun and lively atmosphere. One thing to keep in mind is that they do not have a parking lot, so street parking is the only option. The prices are also on the higher side, but I was still open to seeing if the experience would be worth it. We ordered the picadera Dominicana and the waiter asked if we wanted guacamole. At no point did she mention that it would be an extra charge, so we said yes assuming it was part of the dish. We also ordered a passion fruit sangria pitcher, which was delicious and a good size for sharing. The picadera itself was good and we enjoyed the flavors. Unfortunately, the experience changed when the bill came. Since we were splitting the bill, they charged the appetizer as two separate portions, which ended up costing more. On top of that, we were charged $13 for a very small cup of guacamole, which they labeled on the receipt as "decorative guac" (it was presented as a Dominican flag in the middle). For just an appetizer and a pitcher of sangria, our total came out to $70. What really left a bad impression was when the server brought the bill back and pointed out where the tip section was, as if we didn't know how to read or weren't planning to tip. That felt unnecessary and a bit rude. It's unfortunate because the food and atmosphere had potential, and I likely would have given this place a much better rating if the lack of transparency about the guacamole charge and the comment about the tip hadn't happened. read more

I don't usually write reviews, but I've been coming to this restaurant for years and today was extremely disappointing. I ordered white rice with grilled chicken and an ensalada rusa on the side. The woman taking my order was rushing me even though the place wasn't busy and no one was waiting. Because of that, I asked her three times if she was writing my order correctly. She said yes. When I received my food, it looked nothing like what I ordered. I thought she had given me the wrong plate, but she said it was correct and looked at me as if I had made the mistake. I know exactly what I asked for, and this wasn't it. I paid $37.46 for a plate of wet, soggy rice and the wrong salad. I remember a little before Covid I would order almost regularly from this spot. It was my family's favorite/go-to for a quick but full meal. However over the years the prices increased, and we stopped buying because it was over our comfort zone. Many of my friends that I introduced to this restaurant were also surprised by it and stopped going for the same reasons. Even some food would change out of no where, like there would be curly but dry fries one day, regular but soggy fries today, and crunchy fries the next. I enjoy the Dominican breakfast here! It's also known For its Mofongo. I feel welcomed every time I dine in. My favorite dish is the 4 Golpes, but I also really enjoy the Super Conuco breakfast which is like Tres Golpes but includes crispy chicharrons! They make a delicious Pan con Queso cheese bread that is to die for when it's available. I also like their Bandeja al Conuco dinner when I want a big meal. I would like to try their Pernil special sometime. They have fresh cappuccino as well. I usually get small things like chicken soup or empanadas and I order to go.I've gotten their mofongo before which is also okay. The prices are reasonable and it's nice that they use paper bags which is great for the environment but if you do decide to eat in...they take forever to even give you the menu and even longer to take your order. I usually leave before they take my order because I get tired of waiting. I don't get why this happens because most of the food is prepared already. I ordered a breakfast platter, 4 Golpes, which has 2 over easy eggs, 2 pieces of salami, 2 sausages, big scoop of mangu with vinegar onions, and 1 fried cheese ($8 + $1 if it's after noon). I went on a Sunday afternoon, waited less than 5 minutes. In fact the food came so quick I thought it might be leftovers but I was wrong, fresh and fatty (in a good way). Great hangover cure. After watching my wife pre-bowl across the street we were hungry for some great Spanish Food. El Conuco did not disappoint. The Union City/Jersey City area is a cultural melting pot where you can find almost any type of food. We were seated right away and ordered our drinks. While we were looking at the menu we were given bowls of delicious fish soup (sopa de pescado). It really got the chill from our bones. It was loaded with all types of shellfish and was very satisfying. We finally decided on our meals. My wife ordered the pernil (roast pork) with Moros (rice mixed with black beans). One of the employees recommended I have the Steak and onions. The portions were huge and the steak was grilled to perfection. We couldn't even touch the Maduros we ordered ( which is one of my favorites). I am definitely looking forward to coming back. It is close to home, the food is very good, the service is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. We literally had a table full of food for under $30. We have plenty of leftovers for tomorrow. It's 9:45 p.m. on a Saturday night. You are starving, yet pizza, McDonalds and take-out Chinese possess zero appeal. You crave ceviche or some kind of seafood, but "Cejas" is already closed, "Robalinos" has a private party, and "Rumba's Cafe" is under renovation. Enter "El Conuco" (which technically closes at 10 p.m. but stayed open til 10:15, letting us finish our meal, and not rushing us out of the door). Appetizers: empanada con carne - nicely seasoned, the meat was moist; good pick!; quipes and empanada de yuca were decent. Chicken mofongo had nice flavor, and came with a side of gravy. I could not stop eating it, even after I was full. The whole fried fish (pargo) was delicious according to my companion who ate the entire thing in 10 minutes. (see photos). We received the best service in Hudson/Bergen county area from our waiter who was nice, courteous, attentive and pleasant. That alone deserves a star. read more

This restaurant also has a location on palisade ave in Cliffside Park. They are authentic Dominican food . Made with lots of love and flavor. I ordered the white rice and oxtails with a side of Maduros for $13. It was delicious and the meat was falling off the bones. I also ordered there chicken and beef empanadas and they were nice and crispy and very flavorful. Don't forget to ask them for the chipotle sauce on the side. For dessert I got their tres Leche and it was super sweet and delicious. It was the cherry on top of this delicious meal. read more

El Conuco is a true local gem. My family eats there pretty much every Sat after we bowl at Bowl Rite (another gem). Staff is wonderful, food is outstanding, prices are great. Cuban sandwich or the Pan con Lechon are amazing. The Chicken Stew (Asopao de Pollo) for $10 is huge and amazing. Quipes (fried bulgur wheat shell with ground beef inside ($2) are awesome. And their coffee? It's espresso with milk and it's $2 (aS an icees coffee it's nuts). We love, love, love this place! read more

Seasoning was not even so the pieces that i could taste a bit of the seasoning was delicious despite the toughness, but the other parts... not so much. i had to trim off the fat too b/c i couldn't chew through it. friend's chicken mofongo was delicious! it was a huge dense tower of mofongo and the sauce that came with it was amazing!
