We thought we'd try something new but we should have just stuck with Posada Margherita. The food here is extremely expensive and the service is slow. The servers disappeared for long periods of time, and it would take a long time to get anything from them even though there were only 3 seated tables. I love octopus, but the Pulpo Rostado is very unevenly roasted, some parts are mushy, bordering on slimy and adjacent portions are chewy and tough. Could use some salt, and the olives taste like they came fresh...out of a can. The Risotto Gamberi is better, but not great. The three jumbo shrimp are there for show, and there are small, very dry shrimp mixed in with the rice that give it an almost-fishy flavor. Definitely edible, but not very pleasurable to eat. This dinner cost more than Cetli and as much as Hartwood, and that's just not right. The quality of the food and its preparation is not even close. Definitely go to Posada Margherita next door - it's completely different in the best way possible! read more

A week prior to my Tulum trip I knew I had to check out this restaurant specifically due to an Instagram photo I came across which beautifully showcased their tuna carpaccio. We literally checked out this spot the night we arrived in Tulum. It's centrally located (beach strip not city center) and has great ambiance. We were seated immediately, no reservation. I knew the place was known for their pizzas but I left LA for Mexico..Def not in the mood for pizza lol. So for starters obviously the tuna carpaccio. Displayed beautifully. Dressed in oil with jalapeño and lime on top. I dive in... It's ok. :-/ well better than ok, it's decent. But did it knock my socks off?..not one bit. In fact every tuna tartar I've ever had was probably better than this. Oh welp, had to try it and happy I did. For dinner my fiancé and I both had lobster, I paired mine with a salad. Salad was great! The lobster was decent, a little tough, but most seafood in Mexico is slightly overcooked in my opinion (except for Mateos restaurant)..and I've been to different parts of Mexico. However I can't complain and never do. The prices on lobster out here can't be beat. For dessert we had the crepes with nuttella, chocolate, and I think caramel. It was divine! I'd come back to this restaurant next time I'm in Tulum. Might even try the pizza lol read more

One thing is for sure - Tulum has some great Italian restaurants - seems that lots of Italians migrate to Tulum, so your choices will be many! Make sure you choose wisely. First night in Tulum and we were just getting settled for the week. We thought we'd try a "standard" for us since we loved this place before. It's conveniently located on the Tulum Beach Road at the entrance to Coco Tulum - a small hotel with some nice, simple cabanas. We were very disappointed that the service this trip was not NEAR what it had been on our visits last year. The wait staff does not speak English - not even enough to get an order down. Yes, I know we are in Mexico, and with my broken spanish, I was STILL not able to communicate with them. We had to point at the items on the menu. Our carpaccio was fabulous - as always. And the fresh baked breads are wonderful. Our dinner was 2 appetizers - bruschetta of roasted tomatoes and basil and a beef carpaccio, 2 pizzas for our mains and 2 beers and 2 margaritas (not willing to try the wine after seeing how it was stored). A TON of food (we were staving) and ONLY $65. That's a pretty good deal. Go for the carpaccio and the pizza! read more

Went with expectations for decent Italian food. The best part of dinner was the Mayan cocktail with hibiscus and mezcal. Refreshing! The caprese was underwhelming with flavorless tomatoes. The tuna with pink peppercorns and arugula on the side was okay - the arugula was tasty, drizzled generously with olive oil. The tuna wasn't buttery soft, it felt like it had absorbed water, the way thawed fish sometimes tastes. The biggest let down was the gnocchi. So as odd as it is, on TripAdvisor Juanita Diavola was highly recommended. I know, an Italian brick oven pizza restaurant in Tulum?!? Yes. This was the BEST pizza we have ever had. This place was outstanding. The scenery is beyond gorgeous. It's right on the strip of hotels on the beach. We got a calzone and a regular pizza. This place came as a recommendation and it does not disappoint. The vibe- This place can get a bit hot in the day time due to it being right on the road, however this place is welcoming, quiet, relaxing and decorated well. The staff speaks broken English and us broken Spanish. The manager was all too happy to help us practice our Spanish. This is the Caribbean there will be mosquitos so come prepared with bug stuff. The food is to die for did not have anything I did not like. Pizza Quattro Formaggi was so good! Great value for the money too. They deliver! --- One night we did not feel like walking down the beach road (relaxing all day is a full time job ...whew!) We had the front desk call in our order. It took 2 hours as they got lost so make sure you have a great Spanish speaker when you call in an order. There are so many little hidden hotels on the beach road. Our food was cold and salad soggy, but we were so hungry we ate it anyway. Cesar salad soggy..ugh...But when I picked at I was amazed to find it so delicious. I told my husband if this salad is good soggy I can't imagine it fresh. Needless to say the next day we went in for a fresh Cesar and it knocked my socks off!! I know..Salad? knocked my socks off?? When you want a piece of pie look no further than Juanita Diavola; Coco Tulum's hotel's restaurant. The restaurant faces the street, offering an open pizza kitchen that looks like Toad from MARIO brothers lol. We ate at the restaurant 3 times in 7 days. The first time we ate at the restaurant. We were surprised with lovely live Veracruzian live music and great service. I ordered the lasagna bOlognese and my bf the pizza margherita. The cheese was impeccably melted onto my lasagna; at first glance I thought it was a alfredo sauce, but no, the chef properly used the broiler. The pasta was perfectly Aldente and the tomato meat sauce was juicy, with the right amount of oregano and garlic. I loved it. The pizza was crispy and cheesy with hints of basil. We arrived for a pick up order 2 days after we ate at juanitas after an unfortunate time at a different place. They made our pepperoni pizza in 10 min and we were on our way. We went in for a hatrick and ordered delivery one last time. In all fairness, we were all "ceviched" out. We stayed at Coco Tulum, and thus due to proximity and convenience, ate at Juanita Diavolo twice. The food was okay, overpriced. The one star comes from their disingenuous and dishonest service. We were overcharged on our first meal: I ordered "the pizza with the ham and olives" - they'd already taken away our menus, so I couldn't remember the exact name. We were charged for the pizza and then $80 pesos for "extra ham and olives." We refused to pay the overage. The second time, we ordered their daily special - a margherita pizza and two beers for $250 pesos. My husband said "Sol" for the beer (cheapest beer on the menu). When the tab came, it was over $250 because "Sol wasn't a part of the special." Even though we led our order with "we'd like the special for $250." No one corrected us, or said what beer was included. My husband and I have both worked in the service industry, and we understand the importance of respect and appreciation for the people preparing and serving our food. But this was just dishonest - and happened more than once. read more

Really pretty setting in the coco hotel tulum. When we first sat down, their stove had no gas so they could only make pizza, salad, and anything not cooked. We instead ordered 2 pizza margheritas to-go, which were not Neapolitan style by any means. It was a cheese pizza with basil.
