Tuna carpaccio. Oh and that green fuzzy drink was bomb!
    Alexis Y.

A week prior to my Tulum trip I knew I had to check out this restaurant specifically due to an Instagram photo I came across which beautifully showcased their tuna carpaccio. We literally checked out this spot the night we arrived in Tulum. It's centrally located (beach strip not city center) and has great ambiance. We were seated immediately, no reservation. I knew the place was known for their pizzas but I left LA for Mexico..Def not in the mood for pizza lol. So for starters obviously the tuna carpaccio. Displayed beautifully. Dressed in oil with jalapeño and lime on top. I dive in... It's ok. :-/ well better than ok, it's decent. But did it knock my socks off?..not one bit. In fact every tuna tartar I've ever had was probably better than this. Oh welp, had to try it and happy I did. For dinner my fiancé and I both had lobster, I paired mine with a salad. Salad was great! The lobster was decent, a little tough, but most seafood in Mexico is slightly overcooked in my opinion (except for Mateos restaurant)..and I've been to different parts of Mexico. However I can't complain and never do. The prices on lobster out here can't be beat. For dessert we had the crepes with nuttella, chocolate, and I think caramel. It was divine! I'd come back to this restaurant next time I'm in Tulum. Might even try the pizza lol

    Caprese salad, tuna starter, gnocchi.

Went with expectations for decent Italian food. The best part of dinner was the Mayan cocktail with hibiscus and mezcal. Refreshing! The caprese was underwhelming with flavorless tomatoes. The tuna with pink peppercorns and arugula on the side was okay - the arugula was tasty, drizzled generously with olive oil. The tuna wasn't buttery soft, it felt like it had absorbed water, the way thawed fish sometimes tastes. The biggest let down was the gnocchi. It came in a bowl of what looked like tomato soup slathered with cheese, and that's what it was. With gnocchi in it. Disappointed.

One thing is for sure - Tulum has some great Italian restaurants - seems that lots of Italians migrate to Tulum, so your choices will be many! Make sure you choose wisely. First night in Tulum and we were just getting settled for the week. We thought we'd try a "standard" for us since we loved this place before. It's conveniently located on the Tulum Beach Road at the entrance to Coco Tulum - a small hotel with some nice, simple cabanas. We were very disappointed that the service this trip was not NEAR what it had been on our visits last year. The wait staff does not speak English - not even enough to get an order down. Yes, I know we are in Mexico, and with my broken spanish, I was STILL not able to communicate with them. We had to point at the items on the menu. Our carpaccio was fabulous - as always. And the fresh baked breads are wonderful. Our dinner was 2 appetizers - bruschetta of roasted tomatoes and basil and a beef carpaccio, 2 pizzas for our mains and 2 beers and 2 margaritas (not willing to try the wine after seeing how it was stored). A TON of food (we were staving) and ONLY $65. That's a pretty good deal. Go for the carpaccio and the pizza!

Went during their happy hour and drinks were great. The pizza was also delicious. We had one margarita and one diavola... definitely go for the diavola. Has a great kick!

Really enjoyed our lunch here! We had the Hawaiian pizza, meat lovers pizza, and the Mexican Lullaby cocktails. Great food and service.

Both my dinner and my drinks were excellent here! Conveniently located right next door to our cabanas. I really enjoyed the service here! Brick oven pizza! The drinks were too die for!!! Yum!!

We stopped in here for breakfast. The Bloody Mary was amazing. The macchiato was good. They have free wifi. Unfortunately the food was just OKAY. We ordered the Tostada Juanitas and the Diablo Eggs. The Tostadas was kind of bland. It was like a dry French toast and was covered with chunks of avocado pesto tomato and prosciutto. A lot of salt saved it, but I wouldn't order it again. The Eggs Diablo was also just okay. It's covered in a heavy cream sauce. Maybe dinner is better? Skip this place for breakfast.

That night we ate at Juanita Diavola, The fish ceviche was lemony and excellent, the octopus was delicious but tiny, and the mushroom pizza was delicious but overpriced. Thin crust just a bit too crispy. The best part of the meal was my bloody Mary... Although weak it had incredible flavors. Bill had a beer. $60 total. A lovely meal, but a bit too expensive for what it was.

    Cool interior of the restaurant

So as odd as it is, on TripAdvisor Juanita Diavola was highly recommended. I know, an Italian brick oven pizza restaurant in Tulum?!? Yes. This was the BEST pizza we have ever had. This place was outstanding. The scenery is beyond gorgeous. It's right on the strip of hotels on the beach. We got a calzone and a regular pizza. They don't skimp on toppings which is a plus and the crust is a chewy perfection in itself. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We were sad we ate her our last night because it was so delicious!

    Restaurant from the side

Great pizza! We got two pizzas, one Margarita and the other was half shrimp and half Hawaiian. Thin crust pizza with the right amount of cheese. One pizza could definitely feed two people. But it was great to take the rest to go and have it later in the hotel room ;). They take credit card too. Not the best pizza I have ever had but it was pretty good. This restaurant is not on the beach, it's on the main road so don't expect great views. If you are looking for a break from the fancy stuff and want some good pizza, this is your place.

We put our name on a list, but no phone number was given so really it's a wait for a table or come back type of situation. We ended up leaving and coming back 40 mins later and were sat quickly outside. The pizzas are OUTSTANDING! I think the reviews all say that and it's the truth. The crust is Neapolitan style thinner crust but the flavor is just spot on! The toppings and sauce are well balanced. The roasted chicken was a great addition to the vegetarian. If they made cheese sticks with a marinara sauce with that crust it would be a HUGE seller! The green salad was pretty standard and not much that was memorable or forgettable, just good and as expected. Unfortunately, the bruschetta was a huge let down -- we literally received halved cherry tomatoes on a piece of bread. They served it with olive oil to drizzle, but that did not even come close to what we expected. There are a few cats that roam the outside patio, but they don't bother you much. The staff was welcoming and we had good conversation with the server even for it being 20 mins before they closed.

Such a fresh and different take on a salad. Every ingredient tasted so clean and vibrant. My tummy was genuinely happy after this meal, which says a lot. It's not far from where we're staying near Azulik, which made it even better. The vibe is effortless, chill, and welcoming. Bonus points for the two local cats, who are absolutely adorable and add so much charm to the place. From putting the napkin in your lap to arranging a miniature coat rack to hang your jacket, they pay attention to detail. Not to mention, though the atmosphere takes priority here, the food was also very good. We ordered a steak and the shrimp risotto. The shrimp were colossal. I have never seen shrimp so big. Most of their specialty cocktails are quite acidic and that night I was craving whiskey so I ordered an old-fashioned and it was also very good. I would say this spot in particular is well known for big groups and bachelorette dinners. It is quite loud, so keep that in mind. It's also in line with other nice restaurants in Tulum regarding price, but we felt it was worth it. Lastly, make a note that they charge for water so you're not surprised when you get the bill.

I was down on the beach road fannying about & decided to go & check it out. It's small alright, VERY small & the beach, although quite lovely is smaller than my backyard. I bet you can't even get 15-20 people on that small beach area without feeling like sardines. Anyhoo, the lady at the front desk told me that they charge $20USD to sit on their beach all day (if your not staying in the hotel) & that the restaurant was all organic. When I sat down in the restaurant I could barely get any service. There was literally no one around bc there was tons of seaweed on the beach & in the ocean making it impossible to get in the water so there was no people in sight. I finally did get a waiter & he brought me a bottle of water. Never ask me if I wanted a drink or anything just left me there all alone with the sounds of crashing seaweed against the beach. LOL He finally did come & ask me if I wanted to order some food & I said yes, let me try this caprese salad & he walked away. So, out comes the tiny caprese salad with barely no dressing on it. I think, well this must be some very very tasty salad to have almost no dressing on it. So I dig in. Everyone that knows me KNOWS I grow a organic garden every year on my farm. I know my organic veggies & this was no organic salad. The greens were super fresh & it was plated pretty. However, the tomatoes had absolutely no flavor, not organic. Not even close. And the "supposedly fresh organic moz cheese" was store bought. After wasting over a hour of my day all alone, starring at fugly organic seaweed washing up on the beach & eating a tasteless pretty salad, I decided that "Dune" was a fitting name for this lampoon. My waiter was very helpful with recommendations and answering any questions I had. I ordered the collar de pescado and the tostada de tartar for my apps, the fillete de robalo (sea bass) for a main, and the berenjena (roasted eggplant) for a side. The collar de pescado, the sea bass collar, was absolutely delicious. The fish was soft and tender, topped with a robust tomato based sauce. Super flavorful. 9/10. The tostada de tartar was also outstanding. The crisp tortilla paired perfectly with the soft fresh fish. The fish mixture was light, creamy, and a little spicy, topped with some greens for freshness and finished off with some lime juice for acidity and brightness. 10/10. The sea bass fillet was cooked perfectly, the fish was soft and juicy and had an incredible crispy skin that gave it a wonderful crunch. It was paired with a creamy sauce, spinach, and cauliflower. The different elements of the dish worked well together, with the vegetables cutting through the richness of the fish and the sauce adding flavor and a contrasting texture to the crispy fish skin. 9/10. The eggplant was good, however it was my least favorite dish. The eggplant was soft and flavorful on the inside, however the skin was a little bit tough. The mole it was paired with had a nice smoky flavor and I wish there had been more of it. 8/10. For dessert I got their only dessert, the honey cake. OH MY GOD THIS DESSERT WAS LIFE CHANGING. Probably one of if not the best dessert I've ever had. The cake was very dense, with the consistency of a blondie. The honey taste is subtle and there is also a slight smoky flavor that comes through from being cooked in their wood fire oven. The cake is topped with a chamomile whipped cream and salt. The whipped cream is so light and airy while still being incredibly creamy. The lightness of the whipped cream works perfectly with the richness of the cake. The salt on top really takes it up a notch. 11/10. My only complaints are that the wooden benches you sit on are very uncomfortable and it gets very smoky from the wood burning oven, and I was seated almost at the other end of the restaurant. It was also quite loud but the place is small and it was packed, nothing the restaurant can do about that. Prices are steep but well worth it in my opinion.
