Carlos came to our house, on a holiday no less, and talked about what we wanted to do and provided a quote later. He was thorough, providing suggestions about how to approach a problem: framing out our decidedly builder-grade windows to tie in with the board-and-batten we wanted. And then there was the huge, floor-to-ceiling built-in-bookshelves project we wanted him to tackle with stain-grade wood. Through the whole process, from concept to completion, Carlos checked with us about what we wanted. He made changes when needed and was respectful about our wishes. Everything he did mattered to him. All his choices were thoughtful: with materials, trimming out the board and batten and windows and building the bookshelves. With the cabinet bottoms for four of the bookcases, he chose something with a nice wood grain and matched the doors up. It looks so good and now we need to respect the wood with a stain that will allow the beauty to come through. The result is something out of my dreams. Solid, classy bookshelves with some cabinets and even a couple cabinets with plexiglass doors. As Carlos said, we could drive a truck on these bookshelves now. No disrespect to the IKEA hackers, but I wanted something solid that would last a lifetime, out of real wood. Carlos custom-made the bookshelves -- no prefab cabinets. He was great with communication, both in person and by text when he was on his way for the day. He was always on time or even early. He has a great sense of humor and found us funny too, which is nice to have when you have someone working in your house for a while. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. River City Carpentry provided good quality service and a great value. Now I'm looking forward to the next step of getting our shelves stained and our board and batten and the rest of the room painted.

Aside, the scheduled door installation date was for November 24, 2023, i.e., on time as scheduled--of course and indeed confirmed days prior. We called A-Z to help us address and resolve a dry rot issue in decorative wood siding placed over…read morestucco. The siding was made and installed in the 60s. As you might imagine, the wood siding readily available today does not match what we have on our 60s home. The dry rot was only along the bottom edge of one panel but because the siding is so old and a style mismatch to current siding readily available today, most of contractors we checked with came out and said we needed to replace all the siding panels on two walls or deal with a mismatch repair look. In other words, spend big money or live with big ugly. Miguel offered another approach. He said he could try to hunt down the hard-to-find old style panels and if they existed, he could take a creative repair approach that would patch replacement panel segments in to look more like an intentional design than a repair. And guess what, in a few days, Miguel was able to find the siding everyone else had written off as too old to be able to find anymore! Miguel's approach was both money-saving and aesthetically better from my perspective as a homeowner. I really appreciated that of the many people we consulted, Miguel took a problem-solving approach that squarely focused on what was best for us (locating rare material and thinking outside the box) and not just what was easier and most expedient for a contractor (replace it all). I ended up deciding to fully remove the wood siding entirely so I don't have to worry about future dry rot issues so I didn't have Miguel complete the siding repair job, but I wanted to write this review because how he handled my request for a quote and consultation definitely earned my trust and future business.
