Today my boyfriend and I decided to try a new bakery since our go-to is Julius. We drove around and came across Judicke's Bakery. The bakery itself has an old-fashioned charm and a nice variety of cakes, pastries, cookies by the pound, donuts, and cake pops, which initially seemed promising. We bought two Valentine's Day cake pops, one large Linzer tart cookie, one Oreo cake slice, one strawberry shortcake slice, and one carrot cake yule log slice. Unfortunately, every single item tasted stale and hard, and had a strange refrigerator taste. Nothing tasted fresh, and it was a big letdown considering how good everything looked. On a trip to Bayonne strolling down memory lane, stopped in here for a donut. My partner got a jelly filled, which they enjoyed. (They are not from Bayonne, and don't have memories of Judicke's from the 1970s and 80s). I got two sprinkled donuts ($1.50 each), figuring the first would be so delicious that I would crave a second. I ate the first one and found the chocolate coating to be unimpressive and the cake to be too doughy. I threw the second donut away. I went to Dunkin a day later and got a sprinkled donut there. I've never been a huge fan of Dunkin, but the cake was soft and the chocolate taste was vivid. All in all, a disappointment. I guess you can't go home again. read more

Came here got cookies with sprinkles on them and a chocolate cream donut, like a Boston cream. The donut was so flavorful and the chocolate on top was delicious, the inside cream was plentiful and not too sweet. The cookies where so fresh and where melt in your mouth goodness. They had so much chocolate on them and where delicious. Unfortunately came back 4 days later for the same order and everything was stale and dry. And the cookies tasted completely different. Judickes is one of those places where the cupcakes look better than they taste. The cupcakes had nice decorations I will give them that but the taste was lacking. The frosting tasted like pure sugar and butter. The cake part of the cupcake was ok but nothing spectacular. They all tasted the same too. They did have cool designs so bonus points there. After a bad experience months ago I decided to give them another chance. It was worse this time. Brownies were dry. Like a dried up sponge. Cupcakes were tasteless. Lard frosting. All discarded They are using cheap ingredients and they don't have someone who knows how to bake. I don't like being harsh to a business but they need to improve or go under. read more

The only items that have been able to moderately maintain quality since changing hands several years ago are the sprinkle cookies and donuts. Cakes, cupcakes, brownies and nearly every other item in the shop are consistently dry and/or stale. There is a certain nostalgia connected to the sprinkle donuts which keeps me coming in for them around the holidays/birthdays/bbqs BUT everything else in this once very good bakery is seriously lacking. I was in there today, around noon...a tall girl helped me. It was a simple order, 12 multi colored sprinkled donuts...a few cupcakes, and 2 mini cheesecakes. She wasn't the most customer service oriented person...I asked if the cupcakes were secure in the box...if there was more room, I told her I'd buy more. She said they were ok. As she rang me up, I could see the box that contained the cupcakes were hanging off the counter (although in the bag)...I said something and she didn't acknowledge me. After giving me my card back, I asked for a receipt. She gave me one. When I got home I looked at the receipt and it wasn't mine...totally different! I needed the receipt to submit to someone! I spent $30 ...the receipt was for a cash transaction...$5. And when I opened the donut box, she gave me 11 multi sprinkled AND 1 blue sprinkled donut. Seems it didn't matter to her, BUT I needed all the same colored donuts....judickies certainly has changed...but to have someone like this young girl working there....? We went here after seeing they were ranked in the top 30 donuts in the state. Donuts were ok, better than dunkin, but not particularly mind blowing. The got stale pretty quick, and the creme in the boston creme tasted like it was just about to sour. I did like the amount of jelly they got in the jelly donuts. I think the apple fritter was the best thing I tasted. Coffee cake was a brick the next day. Only buy what you want to eat that day from these guys. read more

I brought over 136.00 of pastries and cake for my bosses birthday to find out the bottom of the cake was molded. I called them and they wanted me to bring it back I also explained that the coffee cake was hard and nothing. This place is a part of the fabric of bayonne and what a shame . Unacceptable!!! Went in to buy four Italian long bread. Once we got home I asked my girlfriend to cut the bread, she cut the first one and stared at it saying it had a cockroach, I laughed and told her to disregard it that it was probably a black poppy seed. She insisted that it was some type of insect so she went ahead and cut the second one. That was when I got grossed out at seeing the head and little antenas from this insect. We cut the third and fourth peace and once again found these insects on the bread. So now I'm thinking that if this insect was in all of my four pieces of bread then most likely the whole batch had to be infested with these insects. I wish I could have returned these bricks. I bought a variety of pastries like oreo cake slices, red velvet, fruit tarts and creme puffs. Wow were they stale! My guests took 1 bite...and commented they never tasted pastries like this. I was soooo embarassed. When I tasted it...the top layer was like cookies hard and the icing/filling was disgusting. They had a stale taste too! Never ever ever going there if it was the last bakery on earth. Shoprite makes way fresher cakes and tastier too as a matter of fact. Credit to Shoprite. I honestly don't care if everything else in this bakery disappeared ... their donuts are my favorite donuts anywhere. I grew up having kids brining them in to grade school for their birthday and idc what anyone says 18 years later they taste the same as o remember. I would give them 5 but wouldn't be fair because I only eat their donuts. If it was just the donuts it would be 5 star. I have been here several times, to pick up a special dessert when going to someone's home, to get cupcakes or cookies for my kids, or just to pick up something nice for the girls in my office. Each time I have been pleased with the freshness, variety, and taste of whatever I ended up going home with (which is always more than what I initially came in for!). The girls at the counter are friendly & courteous & will answer your questions about any of the items displayed. Prices are reasonable given that this is a REAL bakery, with everything made on site. Sadly, Judicki's is no longer the bakery it once was. Have the owners changed. I have had to throw away St. Joseph Pastry, it was inedible. On a visit a couple months ago the Cupcakes were stale so I had to throw them away. The rye bread is the only item we've purchased here lately that has been good. A shame. lol read more

December 2020, I stopped in early morning to buy six each of Boston Cream , Brownies and Jelly Donuts. They were all freshly made, very tasty and at good price. I made a mental note to order and buy my upcoming birthday cakes from Judickes....Feb 2021, I realized I made a BIG MISTAKE...The Carrot cake had more cream cheese filling and topping than the DRY 3/4" wide cake inside, and less than a few nuts and raisins. Also bought black and white ring cake, Icing OK but again DRY Cake.. I took off all the creme cheese from the carrot cake and used it to spread on bagles from Wonder Bagels, Danforth Ave Jersey City. I threw the rest of cake in the garbage and did same thing for the DRY Black & White Ring Cake. I will NOT patronize this bakery again. read more

I know everyone thinks this place is like a bakery Mecca, but I'm underwhelmed. Judicke's is most famous for their sprinkled donuts, and I agree that they are great. I also think they do a very good job on their cakes, and their sprinkled butter cookies are a treat. I am not impressed with their pastries, and feel that they are too greasy. The fruit danish lack full flavor, as if the fruit were generic canned fruit, and the breads aren't as good as those at the specialty Italian bakeries. All in all, a good place for birthday cakes, cookies and those sprinkled donuts, but not a favorite in other areas. read more

The absolute best Boston Cream donuts on earth! I've been getting them since I was a kid. I moved out of Bayonne many years ago but when I visit family in Bayonne, I always have to go to Judicke's! Their powdered cream donuts are excellent too. And the best onion filled buttered rolls are a must! I miss my hometown a lot. My fiancee and I are having our wedding cake made by Judicke's Bakery as part of our wedding package through the Hilton Woodbridge. We recently went for our cake tasting and everything was delicious. We finally settled on chocolate cake with a cannoli filling (with some chocolate chips). The bakery has that small town feel inside. It looks as though nothing has been changed in at least 30-40 years, which makes the place seem all that more quaint. The smell of fresh bread and pastries hits you as soon as you walk in the door.
