This rating is reflected on the obnoxious customer service. My family has frequently purchased and supported this bakery for many, many years. However, the counter help in particular an employee named Meena needs a lesson on how to speak to customers. It was appalling on her delivery in speaking to customers. I will be sharing my experience with everyone I know. If I could rate this as a zero- I would. I ordered cupcakes, brownies and cake slices. Everything and I mean everything (not exaggerating) was extremely dry, hard and old. This place is a hit or miss with the customer service. I came in today on a Tuesday afternoon and it was very dead. The girl who served us looked uninterested and bothered that we were even there. They have a wide selection of cupcakes, so it was only right that we took more than a second to decide. The employee serving us, seemed bothered that we made her do her job and did not even smile once. She looked completely unhappy to be there. The red velvet cupcake that I decided to get tasted terrible. I took one bite and threw it out. My friend ordered the mini tiramisu cake did not like it at all. I am so hurt and angry right now I can barely write this! The first infraction came about 2 weeks ago. My friend went in to get a few donuts when another person came in behind him. The woman behind the counter walked right past him and went to greet the next customer. My friend said "Um, excuse me... I was waiting here first" and she gave a very disingenuous, "Oh, sorry...didn't see you there". He was standing right at the counter and had to look past him to speak to the customer behind him. But okay, maybe it was just an oversight. Today however, I walk into the bakery where 2 staffers are helping 2 customers. I walked the length of the store to peruse my choices and ended up back near the entrance. One of the staffers finished with her customer. He left, and then she began walking towards me. I greeted her first... "Hello". Fairly loud because I was in a bubbly mood. Nothing. Okay, perhaps she didnt hear me. More direct and even friendlier this time this time. "Hello!". She glances in my direction and then initiates a loud, long conversation with the staffer who was now in the back kitchen. I stand there, looking at her, waiting patiently, I'd say for at least a minute. Not once does she bother to say "give me just a moment", or Ill be with you shortly" or apologizes. Nothing. Just completely ignores my existence as she stands right in front of me. My first inclination was to say, EXCUSE ME! CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME?. But I quickly think to myself, Is this not a customer based business? Is it not their job to acknowledge that a customer is in here to buy their goods?! This woman stood right in front of me, ignored my presence, and then proceeded to have a conversation that was totally unnecessary. But instead of addressing it, I turned around and walked right back out. She stopped talking and went silent by the time I hit the door fully aware of what had just transpired. I cant imagine for the life of me why she was so dismissive, especially when I walked in so polite and friendly and ready to buy half their offerings to curb my craving. I'd like to think it's not because Im black. But the fact that she treated my friend so poorly too for no reason (also black), leads me to believe we're not very welcome here. This place will never see a penny of my money and I would encourage anyone not to visit as well if you care about businesses valuing their customers. read more

What in the world happened to this old gem? It actually saddens me to do this review, but honestly, I was so disappointed that I chose here to make a birthday cake for my spouse. What a disappointment. I called in for a cake, was put on a ridiculously long hold and eventually hung up. Called back an hour later and got the same girl, with zero personality, who took my order. It was painful! No clue what I was talking about, acting like I was inventing my own cake or something and up-charging me like crazy. Meanwhile I've ordered that same cake before from their local competitors and it was outstanding each time. So I order and pre pay for the cake from Judickies and picked it up the next day. Perfect! When I got there, I was met by zero personality girl who told me she didn't have the cake...I repeated the order again, she said no, repeated again and reminded her that I prepaid etc..she ultimately found it. Ok, no problem. I asked to see the cake...I get a sigh, tape has to be cut off, moping, scissors out....here you go. Is it that ridiculous that I want to see what I just paid for? Get real! I even try making small talk and it's just silence, moping around, misery... if you hate your job, quit, but stop with the "I'm working on Saturday night" misery party for one. In any case, it looked like some generic super market cake, not AT ALL like the cakes I've had done down the street. So I asked about it and was told "we don't do that" followed by "you should have said you wanted it like that." Ok.. I identified numerous times what I wanted on the phone but really, who cares at this point. The cake looked generic but acceptable so I grab it and go. Fast forward to the point where the cake is served and I begin to notice people aren't really eating it, but are more so eating the filling and pushing the cake around. I asked everyone how it was and got- "it's good." Ok? I went ahead and tried it- what the heck? It was the driest cake ever! It tasted like left over dried out cake from the day prior was being used. I asked my spouse if he liked the cake and he immediately responded-"No, it's very dry." At that point, everyone began commenting about how dry the cake was and throwing it away. What a disappointment. I'm giving this review two stars because their cookies are still good- but the customer service and cakes are just awful. :/ read more

Unfortunately this bakery has always been hit or miss. Their donuts are always fresh and delicious. I love their black and white cake when it's fresh, but have gotten a dry one before even when told it was fresh. Like another customer wrote, the customer service can be terrible. One day I arrived at the bakery a few minutes before they opened. I was working an early morning shift and wanted to pick up some cakes for work. I waved to the woman at the counter and she looked at me and ignored me. Okay, I get it you don't open for another 10 minutes and probably wish people would read. My daughter and I purchased cupcakes, brownies, apple turnovers and a small cheese cake with strawberries on top. The cupcakes were dry and hard. When you walk into Judicke's for the first, the smell of pastries hits your face and instantly make you hungry. Their donuts are one of the best things that I ever tasted. They taste like mini-cakes which I am a fan. I can't forget about the cookies. They have some dip in chocolates and plain. Either one of the choices are equally delicious. We live two blocks from here and we occasionally swing by for their sprinkle cake donuts, which are pretty good. These seem to be one of Judicke's most popular items. The baked goods from this place, however, are hit-or-miss. I can't say I've ever had anything that really blows me away, though I have had a number of decent things and just as many disappointing ones. Some people really like the sort of cakes that you get from an Italian bakery, which are kind of dry with icing that's not particularly sweet or heavy. I am not one of these people, but if you are, you might like the cakes from Judicke's. For me, they are just disappointing. I am more of a sweet, decadent, buttercream, Crumbs-cake-sort-of-person. If you are like me, don't get your cake here. Locally, you'll be happier with a cake from Stop and Shop; otherwise, there is a Crumbs in Hoboken. All of their cookies are dry, and all of the bread that I've tried here is pretty lackluster as well. Pumpkin pie and apple streudel are pretty good, though. read more

Judickie's is an eastern European bakery that has been in business since the 1920s. They have very good sweets like doughnuts, cookies, and slices of flavored custard cakes, and so on. While these baked goods are pretty good, their turnovers are where its at: Pineapple, Lemon, Apple, Cherry, Blueberry, Cherry (listed in order of just good to excellent). You have to try the almond paste danish, it's the only thing worth getting. Make sure you call them the day before you want them if you don't order them they won't be fresh. I ended up buying the cookies for him (soft, buttery cookies dipped in chocolate and then coated with sprinkles) as well as some other various treats. I've been a patron only a few years, so I can't compare to those who've been going for generations. I've found the product pretty good, the meltaway cake excellent, donuts above average. Sprinkle cookies, which get raves, are so-so; no real snap, really cakey and soft. They do move a ton of people in and out, there are plenty of young ladies behind the counter to keep the lines moving. Parking can be a bitch, but that's Bayonne.
