At the time, my aunt was undergoing chemotherapy for a recent cancer diagnosis and was receiving in-home support from another care management company in the same market. Unfortunately, that provider was clearly taking advantage of the situation--the billing was excessive and resembled a law firm's itemized invoices. As a result, I immediately began searching for an alternative home care provider. From my very first interaction with Assisting Hands, the experience was outstanding. Every member of the team went above and beyond, providing professionalism, compassion, and genuine care during an incredibly difficult period for our family. We used Assisting Hands for several months, and my aunt truly loved every caregiver who visited her. Sadly, my aunt ultimately lost her battle with cancer. However, because of the exceptional care provided by Assisting Hands, we were able to bring her home for her final days, which meant everything to our family. The Director of Development even came out on a Friday night to personally coordinate with the hospice nurse from Good Shepherd Hospice and review the care plan. That level of dedication is rare. Assisting Hands treated us as far more than clients--we felt like family. Their compassion, concern, and humanity made an extraordinarily painful time more manageable. I am beyond impressed with the care, coordination, prompt follow up and communication amongst all the staff at AH thus far. Elayna who is the director of client care responds to my emails 24/7 and constantly updates me and keeps me in the loop so I am informed at all times. She is professional, diligent and extremely efficient. Esther and Cindy are also very special people. On the first day of hire, Ester was accompanied by Cindy for few hours to make sure she was set up for success during her new assignment. This speaks to the caliber of care and expectations of AH. Prior to coming to the condo, Cindy met my client at the rehab to review nursing education and care plans so the discharge would be smooth and successful. This really speaks to the philosophy of AH making sure that the companions are comfortable, competent and safe during assignments and not just sending them in blind. Both Cindy and Ester connected with him immediately and treated him with the utmost respect and kindness. FirstLight was a life saver for me! I found them by accident while scrolling on FaceBook on a…read moreparticularly hard caregiving day. At my wit's end, their appeal to caring for the caregiver immediately caught my attention! I filled out the questionnaire and got a quick response from the owner who completely understood my circumstance and knew he could help. And that's just what happened. Within days, FirstLight had identified someone who might be a good fit and she was. Then the pandemic hit and having someone to watch my loved one when I couldn't was invaluable. Unfortunately, that person changed careers and it did take some time to find another good fit, but that new fit was extraordinary. All through the months I worked with FirstLight, they were accessible by phone and definitely on the job in terms of questions or concerns. They are a small agency, which I like, but it can take a bit to find just the right person and for them to be available to a new client. Communication between the alternate caregiver, who was experienced in elder care and familiar with hospice, was direct and consistent. Both Admin and Ownership were always on the other end of the phone. It was a pleasure to find FirstLight, even so late in our journey but they made the final few months easier. Highly recommended!
