Saying my experience with Julie was amazing is an understatement. For one, she was so kind to accommodate me last minute. Her place, decorated so mindfully and beautifully by her, is an experience in itself. It's ironic that I usually clamp up in spas that feel 'too' perfect, but it was the complete opposite with Julie. She made me feel so comfortable instantly, and our conversations felt like talking to an old friend (that's because I'm a talker, but you can always go for some quiet time). If I could I would give Julie more stars for the most amazing facial I have ever received!! So I am a licensed Cosmologist that is up to date on all aspects of my field. That does include facials/skin care and have gotten facials in the past so I thought I knew what to expect. Julie exceeded my expectations and I am thrilled with my results. Julie herself is fabulous! She's so sweet and super knowledgeable about the industry and the products she uses. Her studio is super clean, and peaceful. She is super easy to talk to, professional and makes you feel comfortable. I explained to her my concerns of the acne on my face and she excitedly told me she has a great acne facial that will help. I have gone to other wax salons in SD for brazilians but none have been as good as Julie's! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Julie uses hard wax instead of the strip wax and, as she explained, it is less painful because the hard wax does not hold on to the skin. My skin has always been sensitive and I used to react badly to strip wax but it was noticeably less painful and red when I went to Julie. As if that isn't good enough, she charges $24 for first time clients, and she has a stamp card to earn free waxes! Julie is very professional and personable and she will put you at ease. I went in about a month ago for a Brazilian because I found a coupon in the Reader. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice Julie was and how great of a job she did. When you get there she offers you a glass of wine or champagne (a first at a waxing place for me!). She also uses hard wax which is really the best for doing that area of your body. I returned tonight for another wax and also got one of her facials. It was great!! I would recommended her and her services to anyone. You will not be disappointed. Jules exceeded my expectations! When I arrived she offered me an assortment of refreshments (I chose the champagne) to enjoy while I completed a brief client questionnaire. She was warm, professional and made me feel at home from the moment I arrived. Her studio is small but neat and very relaxing, with spa-like music, dim lighting and candles. The facial was just what I needed for my dry winter skin. Products she uses include Elizabeth Grady and everything she applied to my face felt nourishing and all-natural (lavender scents, etc.). She also gave a hand and arm massage after she applied a mask to my face which was a slice of heaven. Unlike a lot of other aestheticians that I have seen in the past, she did not try to sell products to me which I appreciated. I was surprised to notice at the end of my treatment that 1 hour and 15 minutes had passed from the time she started my facial (I paid for a 50 min facial)! I've tried Pretty Kitty, Urban Skin Care, EnviouSkin, San Diego Wax Queen, and Beauty and Body Lounge. SD Wax Queen was pretty good, but Jules Skin Studio has been my favorite. Jules' space in Bird Rock is cozy and comfortable ... very pleasant and clean. She doesn't double dip. And she is a very professional sweetheart who has given me my most thorough but least painful Brazilians. I don't know if it's the special wax she ships in from the East Coast or her technique, but her noticeably superior results actually made subsequent visits easier ... if you know what I mean. Julie is amazing! I've been getting facials with her for well over a year now and even though I live all the way up in Seattle I will still not go to anyone for my facials but her. My skin is very acne prone and she does a great job helping to keep it clear. My favorite things are that she massages the face a lot and puts those warm mitten things on your hands. Julie not only has provided me with the best waxes I have ever gotten (started getting waxes regularly in 2006), but she is also one of the nicest, sweetest, most amazing people I have ever met. I've been going to Jules for years for Brazilians, and she is the best. Jules herself: She's incredibly nice, makes you feel very comfortable (despite the fact you're naked from the waist down), and while I normally hate chatting with people performing things like haircuts on me (because I'm introverted and just want to get in and get out), she genuinely seems to care about her clients. This is a huge plus for me, as I need to feel safe in such an intimate environment. She also never pushes me to try to purchase products or additional services - again, a huge plus. The waxing: The waxing is about as painful as any other waxing (although the more regularly you do it, the less it hurts), and she's good about trying to keep it as pain free as possible. There are always going to be a few REALLY short hairs that are too short to be waxed, but overall I come out smooth and and happy. read more
