I met Julie on Dillons beach just outside of Lawsons Landing. We were camping there for the 4th of July weekend. Due to the fireworks, our dog Leila broke out of her cage and ran away. We were frantic, scared we might never see her again, scared for her in an unfamiliar place. We were completely turned around and confused we had nothing to help us find her all we could think to do was to keep searching walking and driving up and down the streets calling her name. I stayed back at camp in case Leila showed up. My husband Eddie with our other dog went looking for Leila on the beach. He was talking with this couple if they had seen our dog Leila, Julie overheard my husband saying, we lost our dog, she immediately approached him asking many questions. My husband says Julie made him feel more at ease, right away she went into help mode, told him step-by-step what he needed to do & to be patient and don't give up on searching for her. She took his number down and he thought for sure he'd never hear from her again but the very next day early in the morning Julie called to find out if we had any luck in finding her. When he told her no, she said ok this is what we're gonna do: 1st I need you to send me a picture of Leila so she could start making copies to hand them out and post them everywhere, Petaluma and all over Marin county, then she said she was able to contact some friends and able to get a group together to form a search party and she had another friend with a drone who was also willing to help us search for Leila. Imagine, Where would we have gone? Who could we ask for help to get any of this done? but here, this total stranger who knows nothing about us, except that we lost our dog offers to help us for nothing in return. A couple days later our dear Leila returns but we were still in communication with Julie on a daily basis. Leila was sprayed by skunk, covered in ticks galore Julie explained what to do, she was very professional & knowledgeable on all kinds of things regarding animals. Her heart is truly in it. She came and visited with the dogs and I for a little while to check on Leila to see how she was doing. Did the 5 session puppy package for a whooping $950 dollars and it was 75 minutes per session, once a week. I have one session left with her and she never responded to any of my 4 emails in the past 2 weeks. Says her contact method is through email and it takes 2-3 days for her to respond but I have gotten nothing. All our sessions were mostly just talking, nothing really hands on with my puppy. We were definitely in need of training help with our 5 year old Chocolate Lab and a 2 year old terrier mix. The terrier had issues with barking at EVERYTHING, jumping up on visitors, constant pulling on her walks. The chocolate started picking up the terrier's barking behaviors and was sometimes best described as a hurricane on the end of a leash during her walks. A little research led us to Julie Colt who turned out to be a godsend. Julie came to our home and did a lengthy evaluation of both dogs, patiently observing their behaviors, asking us tons of questions. At the end of her evaluation she confidently told us she could help with both dogs. We immediately agreed to contract with her, especially after seeing her wonderful, caring demeanor with the dogs, her cheery disposition and exclusive use of positive reinforcement as her training techniques. With her guidance, and recommendations regarding specific training tools (proper length leashes, harnesses, gentle leads, training treats, appropriate toys) both dogs quickly adapted using her techniques, turning our dog walks into calmer and happier excursions. Our chocolate lab especially responded immediately to Julies guidance. Both dogs have also greatly improved on their incessant barking and jumping.
