The most down-to-earth, outgoing, friendliest, doctor I have ever had the pleasure of coming in contact with. I met with her on three occasions and was amazed at the amount of time she would spend with me. But I sure lucked out when I secured an appointment with Commonwealth Ear, Nose and Throats specialists. It took me a week to find someone to even see to my problem. Honestly, my experience with Dr. Julie T Kerr was one of the most unprofessional and dismissive encounters I've ever had at a medical office. From the moment we stepped in, she seemed more interested in rushing through the appointment than actually caring for my daughter. She misgendered my 10-month-old, calling her a boy -- an obvious sign of her careless attitude. I put that info on her intake form. She jumped to a conclusion about bacterial adenoiditis before examining her. And without doing any lab tests, just eyeballed her mucus and then after I asked for a lab to confirm she slapped a 30-day antibiotic prescription on a 10 month old! When I asked questions or expressed concerns about unnecessary antibiotics, she rolled her eyes, got snippy, and talked to me like I was bothering her. Her tone was rude, condescending, and dismissive -- totally disrespectful. She didn't bother to ask about my daughter's medical history, discuss seasonal allergies as a potential culprit, or anything else that could have helped her make a better diagnosis. She didn't even check her ears, which is pretty basic. Honestly, she just seemed careless, egotistical and afraid to be wrong. She couldn't be bothered to listen or provide genuine care. And her conduct was unethical. Overall, I felt like I was bothering her more than seeking help. Her attitude was rude, impatient, and totally unprofessional. read more

While the medical care I received was solid, my overall experience was disappointing due to the front office and their approach to customer service. I did have to cancel an appointment with less than 24 hours' notice and was charged a $120 no-show fee. While I understand the policy, I believed I had a valid reason for missing the appointment and hoped the office might be willing to consider my situation. Unfortunately, the office manager was unwilling to make any exceptions or even escalate the matter to upper management. After several emails and voicemails, I was told that company policy doesn't allow for flexibility in these cases, and that making an exception "wouldn't be fair." What stood out most was the lack of willingness to work with me or even have someone higher up take a look at the situation. It gave the impression that keeping the fee was more important than retaining me as a patient. It's unfortunate, because while the medical care itself was good, we often interact more with the office staff than the doctors--and that part of the experience fell short. I don't look forward to finding a new ENT, but thankfully there are other options out there. read more

My first visit to Commonwealth Ear, Nose, and Throat was very memorable, but in the worst way. Unfortunately, I saw Dr. Kerr, and she was not only unprofessional, but very condescending and rude. My appointment was for 10:00 a.m., and I was taken to the examination room at 10:15 where I sat for over thirty minutes. I located the nurse and asked why the doctor had not yet come in, and her reply was that I hadn't been in the room that long. I fully admit that I reacted with a sarcastic remark and returned to the room, closing the door rather loudly. Dr. Kerr finally came in and without any sort of greeting or introduction, demanded whether I wanted to reschedule because I was so obviously angry. I replied that since I was here, to just get on with the exam. Dr. Kerr did not stop there but continued to condescendingly school me on how much time I should allot for doctors' visits, and how I should have read the sign at the front desk about rescheduling if visits are delayed, and how she was very busy helping two babies eat properly, and how that because she is a surgical specialist, her time is often taken with lengthy cases. I asked her why her nurse could not have simply indicated that Dr. Kerr was running late, and her reply was that her nurses are very busy and cannot be expected to make sure they are telling patients everything they want to hear. The irony is that when I looked for the nurse, she was sitting in the nurses' station chatting. I did allow Dr. Kerr to examine me (which lasted all of 5 minutes), and on her way out, she said, "Well now I can go be a robot with the rest of my patients." The final straw in all of this was my ear started bleeding as I was driving home, but Dr. Kerr had not warned me this could happen, nor did she provide me any gauze or cotton in the event it did happen. I thought it is worth putting this back out there so people will not make a bad choice by seeing Dr. Kerr. On 9/15/22 I had my 4th appointment with her over a 5 months period. She recommended scheduling surgery in the next 2 weeks. She approved the surgery and say if her Surgical Coordinator did not call me by the next day, I should call her on Monday. She did not call. I started calling Kym Longoria, and continued calling over 6 times leaving messages for almost 2 weeks, with NO reply. I finally called the office and ask to talk to the manager who stated that I was NO longer a patient there and would not be seen by Dr. Kerr again. I kept asking why, which she refused to answer. She stated they were going to send me a letter and Dr. Kerr would call me. To date, I never received a letter or contact from Dr. Kerr. I had no alternative but to find another ENT Doctor, which I did. But it took another 3 months of suffering to finally get an appointment and have the sinus surgery on December 8, 2022. When I got the medical records from Dr. Kerr's office to give to my new ENT Doctor, the last line stated I had complained about long wait times to be seen, and that Dr. Kerr would no longer see me? Dr. Kerr's office is always crowded, small waiting room in the height of Covid outbreaks, and I always experienced extremely long wait times, 40-60 minutes in the waiting room, and often 20-30 minutes in the patient exam room. Dr. Kerr never spent more than 5 minutes with me. Also, I could never find parking less than 10 minutes away at St. Mary's. The last time I saw Dr. Kerr, I had waited 50 minutes in the waiting room. When the nurse came to take me to the exam room, I stated I hoped it would not be another 50 minute wait because I had another appointment. Apparently she had told Dr. Kerr what I said, because Dr, Kerr sharply snapped at me stating "this is an 'Urgent Care Clinic'? My primary care Dr. later told me she was not listed as an Urgent Care Clinic? Moreover, all the office staff is not friendly and seems to be under a lot of stress. The overall work environment is very tense. This is the worse I have ever been treated by any Doctor or staff. In my mind, it seems very unprofessional, and unethical. Moreover, I believe that by 'abandoning' me at my time of need is a violation of a Doctor's Hippocratic Oath'. Not to mention she had already approved the surgery, which I took as a Dr. - patient promise. I consulted with my Doctor regarding this situation. He stated it sounded like a case of abandonment and that I had an option to file a complaint the Board of VA Medicine, which did. As I mentioned, I finally had surgery on December 8th 2022 preformed successfully by Dr. Lim. He is a wonderful Dr. and his offices and staff are very pleasant. Most importantly, I never have to wait when I have an appointment with him. Dr. Lim really cares about his patients. I have lost all confidence with Dr. Kerr. After this incident, I preformed a detail 'social media review' search on Dr. Kerr. By far, the highest complaints were the long wait times, short time spent with patients, and in some cases the staff and Dr. Kerr being very rude. I only wish I had done this before making an appointment with Dr. Kerr. Just read the respond from Dr. Kerr's office. They stated that I was " being rude and intimidating and disruptive to office staff and providers". I feel very sorry that a VA licenses' Doctors office can make up whatever they want with impunity. Their response is a flat out falsehood. I have never or would ever treat anyone of what they accused me of!! I feel confident that the Virginia Department of Health Professions Enforcement Division will get to the truth. read more

I do not reccomen, I scheduled an apointment for my daifhtwr in June 2023 for chronic ear infection she has seen Dr. Kerr in the past and was not a new patient. I called to cancel the appointment 2 days before her scheduled appointment time because we got in sooner with Dr.Lim at another practice! when I called the receptionist said "oh I don't even see an apointment on the books for Olivia " I said I am letting you know I had an apointment schedule and we will not be there! fast forward a month I get a bill in the mail for a cancellation fee for myself! I called the office and asked what the heck? To find out the opened a chart for myself, I did not make an appointment for myself. I called the office at least 5 times to resolve this! today I gave up and paid the fee! I will not be ever going to the practice again! read more

Frustrated with this office. I called to schedule an appointment today for a pressing issue and was told that I had a balance due which I was not aware of. The receptionist said they could not schedule an appointment until there was a zero balance. She put me on hold to speak to the financial person and when she came back on the line, she said they were having technical problems and couldn't look into it at that time. She asked me to leave a message with the financial person and they would call me back. That was done early this morning and I never received a call back. read more

Dr Kerr is amazing. The ENT in Charlottesville (where I lived at the time) told me there was nothing wrong with my newborn, the pain I had when to breastfeeding was normal, and that I basically needed to toughen up. I was devastated and exhausted and ready to give up. Fortunately for me my midwife is a rockstar and found Dr Kerr in Richmond for me. Dr Kerr squeezed us into her schedule that afternoon, recognized my daughters tongue tie immediately and corrected it on the spot. Additionally she was kind and gentle, everything the Cville Dr was not. After the procedure I was able to breastfeed my baby easily and without pain, we were able to nurse for 2 years! I've been messaged a few times now about this experience, I really can't recommend Dr Kerr highly enough. She and my midwife saved my ability to breastfeed my daughter- it's one of the greatest gifts I've ever received. read more

It also describes our favorable opinion of Dr. Kerr. Feb 21, 2010 Thanks to all of you who offered recommendations for an ENT. Half of all the recommendations were for Dr. Julie Kerr, so we figured she must be something special. Because of the current unpleasantness --COVID19--, we were able to get an appointment for Bob for this afternoon. And we found Dr. Kerr to be an absolute delight. Her gentle good humor and her spot-on questions immediately put Bob (and me) at ease. She gave us a thorough explanation of what she perceived the problem to be and a 5-point action plan. Quite possibly the worst experience I've ever had with a doctor and staff! Wait times of up to 2 or 3 hours after scheduled appointments. Rudeness from office staff and a seemingly non-caring physician. There are much better ENT docs in the area, look elsewhere. read more

The wait at this practice if your appointment is not canceled was always it least 45 minutes to an hour, with a one year old that's not okay. I get appointments sometimes get canceled but you cannot schedule them for the following day and assume it will work. I tried to reschedule on a Monday and was told she was leaving early and had 53 patients that day. That is absolutely unacceptable. I never felt she gave my child the time he needed and that confirmed it. While the doctor was nice new patients should not be accepted. read more

Dr. Kerr was nice but very distracted. After insurance I still owed a few hundred dollars for the office visit and I had to wait until I got paid to send in the check. I was 2 days past due ( not a week or a month, just two days - hello mail delays...) and they called for collections and told me I would have to pay in advance going forward even though I have insurance that paid a chunk already. This practice is very unprofessional. Dr. is okay but the staff is woefully inept. They were double paid by myself and my insurance company. Getting this money back is an absolute nightmare. If you can get through, you'll get someone who can't find any information on billing. They might send you to some unknown office where no one answers the phone. Very, very poor customer service. Professional, capable, and puts her patients at ease.

I have had nothing but bad experiences with Dr. Kerr and her staff. She does not have a great bedside manner and is short with patients. Her office also billed me wrong, then would not allow me to be seen until I paid it. I waited over an hour for a follow-up appointment to get it resolved so I could be seen, only to then have Dr. Kerr get agitated with me and complain about another patient that was put in a room before me. When I asked her to just move on and look in my ears, she did for 2 seconds. It was not worth going in. Regarding the billing issue, the staff went around in circles telling me it was my fault for the billing, but once I contacted my insurance company Dr. Kerr's office realized the mistake. Dr. Kerr did not agree and was unprofessional and called and texted me about it from her personal cell phone over a $40 bill (that again was not my fault). I have never had such a bad experience with a doctor. read more
