Great French press coffee, the Quiche Lorraine gives me heart palpitations, and the croissants are large flaky puffs of happiness. The staff is friendly and helpful. There can be a bit of a wait if they get backed up with typically only a couple of people brewing and baking away, but it's always worth the wait. OH! Make sure you snag some of their macarons. My husband and I have had many of the bakery delights and continue to enjoy going to Julie Myrtille's bake shop on Springdale Rd. to have a nice lunch out, during the pandemic. The bakery has continued staying open, and also keeping up booths at our favorite local farmer's markets. We love the Quiche, all of the varieties, and the croissant sandwiches! This is the place to go for delicious croissants! I really love croissants, mainly because they make me nostalgic for the time I spent studying abroad in France. In particular, almond croissants are what I crave from time to time, and I'm happy to say that Julie Myrtille gets the almond croissant exactly right (for me at least). The flakiness, the sweetness, all without being too oily. The chocolate croissant was also wonderful - that was my son's favorite. I was also happy to see Julie Myrtille makes madelines and they are even better than what I remember in France (probably because I was buying cheap bulk packs of madelines from the grocery store and smothering them in Nutella...yeah, I didn't exactly eat the healthiest while studying abroad). My son and I tried some other pastries, including a scone and the tiger finacier. They were okay, but the croissants were the standouts and the best I've found in Austin so far. I'd like to try the quiches and tarts next time I visit - I bet they are good too! read more

The pastries are just OK. I'm a pretty good home baker, and I mainly focus on French baking (croissants, macarons, frangipane tarts, madelines, puff pastry) so I know how I like them. The croissants were not flaky on the outside. They were mushy and reminiscent of cheap, stale croissants you can buy at any grocery store for substantially less money. That's unforgivable for croissants at this bakery's enormous price point. I would have no problem with the cost if the quality was there. The tart crust was under cooked and tasted of raw flour. I actually threw the $9 tart away after one bite. I had thought the carrot cake would be amazing for $9 a slice, but it's the same quality of any average home baker's carrot cake. The slice was also tiny and nearly impossible to get out of the packaging. I really wasn't impressed with anything, and I threw most of it away. That was a tremendous waste of money for baked goods. I think it's clear that I will never return. I had been excited to try this bakery as it's close by, and I don't always feel like making my own pastries. Save your money and frustration and go to La Patisserie or Baguette et Chocolat. Both are less expensive and substantially better quality. I don't generally write negative reviews, but I really want to save another French pastry lover my frustration. I was unable to overlook the myriad issues I had. This review doesn't cover those other issues as I really only care about food quality when I read reviews. The rating is for the quality of the food combined with the cost. I don't mind paying an obscene amount of money for amazing quality (I'm looking at you, French Laundry), but I do mind throwing money away. read more

Terrible experience and doesn't live up to the hype. There's usually only one staff who has to take orders, make the orders, and clean up. Although I was the only person in line, the wait time was unpleasantly long. When it came to ordering, many of the items I wanted were either out of stock or had long wait times. I ended up just trying one of the few displayed pastry. I'm definitely dissatisfied with my experience at Julie Mytille. Grabbed a few croissants and quiches for at home brunch this morning from the farmers market stand. Selection is impressive, lots of choices. I grew up split between here and France so I am PICKY about how things "should" taste and often struggle with the choices here in Austin. I am impressed! The quiche had a great crust and the right amount of it and the creamy, peppery filling really hits the spot. I have visited their booth a few times at the farmers' market and tired a few different things which have all been really scrumptious. They now have a store front and I called them the other day after closing time. I wanted to buy a few items for my wife's birthday. They said they were still there and will be there for a bit. I rushed over and they were incredibly gracious and attentive even though I had showed up past closing time. I chatted with both Julie and Melanie about their story coming from France, their entrepreneurship journey, etc. It felt like a real human connection as opposed to just a transaction. As close to France as you are gonna get in Austin, which is pretty damn close. Croissants are just OK here, but the canelés and other goodies like financiers are superb. Julie had a booth at the Galleria Hill Country's Farmer's Market this past Sunday. I am a sucker for fresh bakery treats so stopped by to check it out. Glad I did as I took home several delicious baked goods. What got my attention were the custard tarts that so much reminded me of the Chinese Dim Sum Egg Custard Tarts but Julie's were Flan Tarts baked in a flaky puffed pastry pie shell. It was delicious especially warmed in toaster oven but can be eaten just out of the wrapper. Definitely a winner. Also purchased her "Perfect Cookie" and a cinnamon roll for the hubby. Her booth was "candy for the eyes" with so much to choose from. Everything from scones to croissants and macaroons to cookies. read more

Waited 2 hours in line for their opening event for an 8 dollar tiny cold croissant that was worse than chain food (I.e pret manger) The guy at the cashier was rude and stuffed the croissant in my hand after I tipped him. The cafe recently opened in Springdale general, and I wanted to try out some French pastries. My friend and I came there at 11:00 am, and there were some people ordering to go coffee with pastries. I got the vanilla Madeline with a cup of coffee. I had the chance to talk to the owner, she was nice and seemed pretty busy. It was only her and her daughter at the cafe. The Madeline was good, and wasn't too sweet. The coffee was a bit mediocre. I wish they had more organic cream, non-dairy options like soy milk available on the side as well instead of coffee mate. The cafe is really cute though and definitely had a French vibe to it. Overall, I'd give it a 4 mainly because I need to return and try out more desserts from the cafe. It's a new cafe so I'm sure they will have more things to try out over time. read more

The strawberry cream cheese croissants are very good but it's not worth it to me to get them anymore as storefront is often not open when their hours say they are and staff is very slow. They had samples of their AH-MAZING croissants and they are the most delicious I have ever had! Disappointed. First and last time I'll come here. I ordered a strawberry cream croissant and a ham and cheese croissant. Website pictures are misleading. I expected fresh fruit and fresh whipped cream tucked inside a warm croissant with powdered sugar sprinkled on top and received something completely different. Whoever was at the register insisted that what I received is what I ordered. I don't know if it's laziness on their end, but I'm incredibly disappointed. Same thing with my sandwich. Where are the greens? Again they insist I got what I ordered. Why have these amazing pictures on your website if that's not what you deliver? The sandwich tasted like Costco croissants and Costco ham. And for $17 I just feel cheated. My boyfriend picked these up for us and is too good to ask for a refund or make a scene over something this small, but had I known it would be this bad I never would've spent my money here. The pastries are absolutely to die for! I mean, WOW. These are true French pastries and breads in every possible sense. My only reason for not giving them 5 stars, is the service and blatant level of rudeness I was met with. I arrived one morning just a few minutes before they opened, and while their was fully staff there, I was ignored. I finally spoke up and was asked to sit nearby and wait, and they would open soon. Before they put out their open sign another woman walked up and was kindly greeted and ordered ahead of me, so I proceeded to the counter and a line began to form. I still ended up waiting another 5 minutes to order, and was met with annoyance when I tried to ask what the items were, as they were not labeled. The lady boxing them did not give me a chance to let her know how many items I wanted and got quite annoyed when she realized the box was too small. She immediately rang up my order without allowing me to ask for coffee, which come to find out, still was not ready. I settled for a tea, and had to wait 10 minutes to be handed a cup of hot water, with a tea bag on the side, which cost nearly $5. I would return for the pastries, but I will most likely visit the other French Bakery near our home instead, based upon service alone. read more

I lived in France for two years, the food here is the real deal. Best quiche I've had stateside, so good I had to pause after the first bite to process how delicious and savory it was! We also tried croissant sandwiches and coffee, which were fantastic. I love that this bakery uses non-disposable cutlery and plates when you dine in. In addition to making the joy of eating and drinking great stuff better and slower, it's environmentally responsible and doesn't cut corners for convenience. Over priced and employee did not know her menu. She wanted to charge us for drinks when it clearly stated sandwich came with drink and was rude about it when I tried to ask about it. I would not even give it 1 star. $25 for 2 croissant sandwiches!!!! Will not return. Wow, delicious pastries! Had an almond croissant & spinach feta feuillette. Both had incredible light & flaky pastry.
