My favorite boutique in Del Mar with awesome customer service, including the Pomeranian dogs hanging around the store! There is an amount of cute things that will make you stay for hours and no one even press you to buy anything if all you want to do that day is seeing and touching pretty things. The clothes are not cheap but are very beautiful and unique. Same with the different gift items you can find there. Not the usual tackly souvenir shop, the swimsuits and bikinis are one of a kind. Such cute dresses and cover ups. Very cool books too. We learned it actually used to be a bookstore many years ago, love that they kept a bit of that alive. So many fresh styles and colors, perfect for the stay in Del Mar and all summer long. Julie and Joelle were super welcoming and friendly, they were very sweet with our dog and although their store dog Frankie wasn't too keen of him, we loved their pooches Frankie and Stella, such cute faces and haircuts. We love that they keep them at the store, they are so well behaved staying in their cozy beds while shoppers browse. I got quite a few new dresses and will love to wear all of them for a long time to come. Will be a must stop every time I'm in Del Mar now. This boutique shop is fabulous! I have been looking for a bathing suit to match my body, and I walked out with two bathing suits! My figure is definitely not model status; I am 5'1, B-cup, slimmer waist, thicker hips, and bigger butt than most girls. Lots of bathing suits in other stores are made for tall, skinny girls which is not me so it's hard for me to find a good bathing suit. With that said I was willing to spend the money if it looked good on me, especially since it's a very revealing piece of clothing. Julie had me try on around 10 different bathing suits to test my style (from one piece to flush to patterned), and I really had a blast doing it. My husband loved most of the bathing suits but in the end we chose two two-piece Brazilian cuts (lots of butt showing) that were either sporty or islander styles. Lots of bathing suit shops in San Diego do not carry Brazilian cuts because it is too risque, but Julie's had a huge selection. I LOVE my bathing suits as they were so flattering to my curvy body. My family and I came to the San Diego area for vacation. This whole time one of my main goals was to buy a few nice bathing suits. Though I can do so online, I prefer to shop at small businesses. We specifically came to Del Mar to go visit Julie's Beach Wear, because of the great reviews it had. My family and I walked in and were the only people in the store. We were never greeted as the sales clerk was on her phone and not paying attention. I started to pull some suits off the racks and she seemed concerned I was going to drop stuff so she asked if she could start a room, which-was great, as I wanted to try on a lot of things. I was hoping to buy at least 3-4 bathing suits, and my mother wanted to buy some as well. I continued to pull things off the racks-because they do have a great selection. The sales clerk came over, gave me a nasty look and in an extremely rude and condescending tone (while rolling her eyes) said some thing along the lines of "wow you're grabbing a lot of stuff and we only let people try on ten things" to which I replied "okay...well do you not want me to shop here then?". I was genuinely confused because it really seemed like I was inconveniencing her because I wanted to try things on. She continued to be snarky and said "well it's just going to be really confusing and you're going to have to hand me everything you don't want". My whole family heard her tone and was shocked. I told her I no longer wanted to try anything on as I was holding back tears. I have social anxiety and shopping is already very hard for me. She made my experience horrible and I was bummed because I did like the selection of suits they had. The sales clerk refused to give me her name and continued to be rude while texting on her phone and dismissing me completely. She offered no apology and didn't seem to think she was out of line. I forgot to mention, she was also really rude to my mom which was not cool. Included below is a picture of the clerk after she refused to give me her name. When you're down in old Del Mar and are in need of a bathing suit for your beautiful body, go and see Julie. It's a one lady show up in here-She's the owner, the shopkeeper, the buyer, stocks shelves, and who knows what else. She's been in business for years and prides herself on ordering suits and cover ups you won't find any where else. (Some all the way from Brazil and Europe) It's a quintessential small businesses, the hours are steady through the summer months but can vary in the off season-Julie keeps her adorable and sadly, getting older, dog with her in the store. If you're not a dog person just a heads up. You should know the poor thing doesn't see well and gets startled if people go up to her quickly or pet too rough. Stock changes and rotates all the time-so stop in frequently to see if there is anything new. It's a small store with a couple dressing rooms in back. Julie will help you go through the stock and adjust sizes throughout the brands to help you find what you're looking for. She also has adorable resort wear. I recently picked up the coolest cover up for a friends 30th birthday in Palm Springs to give as a gift and she LOVED it. I've never seen another one like it anywhere. During another visit I grabbed an awesome necklace and some too cute bootyshorts (again for a bday gift for a friend) This store isn't cheap-it's high end for sure, as is the location and quality-just be ready to drop some change if you shop here. Worth every penny, but to be fair and informative to the public, you're not going to find a suit for a steal in here. This is a great NCSD alternative to Gone Bananas or downtown shops. Didn't see any men's clothes/boardshorts at all-this is a ladies bikini paradise. Parking is along the street. read more

First, I heart Julie (the owner) so much. She is so fun, sweet and knowledgeable about all the hot swimwear lines. I walked in, she immediately sized me up and directed me to the best bikinis for my body type. The first L-Space bikini I tried on that she suggested looked so-so on the hanger but *amazing* on. She was not pushy at all but I had to get it (of course! was there any doubt that I would *not* shell out ~$200 for a bikini when I have 10 more in my drawer that have never been worn?? *sigh*). Second, the shop does, generally, stock the high-end brands only but the prices are commensurate with what you would pay for them elsewhere, there is no "Del Mar" premium she tacks on which is a huge relief (my first concern whenever I walk into a boutique in the Del Mar area). The store not only has amazing bikinis but super cute coverups too. I just love the owner and love the store and all its pieces...a must go-to if you're looking for swimwear! read more

When looking for a bikini in Del Mar, there is no where to go but Julies. Julie Z., the owner, warmly greets you at the door. She is a shoppers dream. She's one of those store owners who just innately knows what will look good on different body types, and is able to easily reccomend what will fit, what will make you look skinny, what will make your booty pop, what will look appropirate, and what to wear on an exotic vacation. She is not at all pushy, but one of those old school warm shop keepers who genuinely is there to assist her patrons and can come up with stylish ideas you may not have imagined. However, what I like most about her, is that she's not afraid to tell you something doesn't look good, and encourage you to leave it behind. This honesty keeps me coming back for more. Very disappointed with our visit. We did NOT feel welcome. First off the owner/sales lady was on a personal phone call and couldn't be bothered to help us. She also brings her dogs to work, which being a dog person didn't bother me, but one of her dogs is 17 and parked in the middle of the store and snapped at us, maybe put your unfriendly dog behind the counter. So between an old angry dog and a store owner who made our visit seem like an inconvenience, I would never recommend this place or be back. read more

This store is a hidden gem! I just bought my 3rd bikini there for the season! Julie has the most amazing selection. I am not talking ordinary suits you can buy anywhere, but one of a kind! Julie is awesome! She is a great buyer and knows what to show you for your body type. If she says it will look good on, you should at least try it on!!! You will be surprised! Cute suits. Very expensive. $100-250 per suit. Julie is soooooooooo annoying. I was in the shop for 20 minutes and NO ONE was there. When she finally showed up she showed me suits that she recommended but totally ignored my requests. She recommended cute suits but I asked for sporty and practical. AFTER I paid for two suits she showed me the sporty, practical one pieces. WTF!!!!!??? She just stands around and talks about homeopathic treatments for dogs with her neighborhood friends. Not helpful. Customer service means nothing to her. I am also convinced that she charged me double for one suit. (One of the same style was 1/2 the price but she said oh no that was mismarked ). read more

The customer service is very welcoming and friendly from Julie or any of the staff here. They guide you in the right direction of what looks good on you.
