My regular nail salon was booked up and I needed a pedicure. Checked reviews on Yelp and decided to call Julie's and see if they had an opening. I arrived 15 minutes early and was immediately greeted by a friendly woman (who, on a side note greeted all regular customers by name as they entered) and was seated at a pedicure station. The first thing I noticed was that they use fresh individual liners for each pedicure in the tub. My pedicure was amazing! Nicole did an incredible job. I was desperately looking for a nail salon in the area because my regular place in East Haven was randomly closed the day of a snow storm. Came upon Julie's Nail Studio on Yelp so headed over to Hamden to check it out and all I can say is WOW! The salon is very clean, large and warm and the staff was extremely friendly and courteous. The lady who worked on my pedicure and gel manicure did a phenomenal job--even my husband commented on how flawless my nails looked. I'm currently on my vacation and both the mani and pedi are holding up very well in the heat, sand and saltwater of Mexico. Will definitely be coming back! read more

The lady barely puts any pressure when She was rubbing my feet, the 10 minute massage was only 4 minutes and 1 minute of that is where she uses 1 warm stone such a disappointment!! I had to ask multiple times for her to scrub harder for the callus remover. Then they charged me completely different prices. Total waste of my money and time! read more

Let me start this review by taking away the one mandatory star-I can't even give a star for this place because I was never taken in for my appointment. I had called at 9:30am to make an appointment for 3pm that day for my mom and I to have a pedicure. They said no problem, took my name and that was that. We arrived at the "nail studio" 5 mins before our appointment and had let the gentleman know who we were. 25 minutes later, and 4 customers taken before us, we had still not been told when our turn would be. We decided to leave and will not be returning. Why say you take appointments when you clearly don't? Bad customer service. read more

Best place in Hamden to get your nails done! The staff is so friendly, the salon is very clean and doesn't reek of nail polish like many salons do. I usually also get my eye browns waxed here too, it's not painful at all and they so a great job. The best thing about Julie's is the amazing massages they give while you wait for your nails to dry. Each massage is a good 5-10 minutes and includes back,neck, and shoulders. They use lotion, hot rocks, and a warm towel! You just can't beat the service and the prices. Well, it's been two weeks since my shellac manicure with Kelly. I worked 7 days straight in the hospital and my hands were constantly in soap and water and alcohol. Only in the last couple days did my nails start to chip. I returned to Julie's Nails and had Kelly once again. Another wonderful job. I'll become a regular here. I had the most wonderful experience at this nail studio. I picked it randomly using a Siri search on my way home from Smilo Cancer Center. (Another caring and warm spot considering) It had been an arduous day of MRI's and CAT scans. I couldn't wait to get out and shake off the day. I arrived at 5pm to a very busy salon. I was concerned I wouldn't get the best service since it was so close to closing. They made me feel welcome and I was on my way to a aloe vera spa pedicure in no time. I explained I am a little slow to get in and out of the pedicure chair due to the treatment side effects I'm having. They were very gentle and descreet. I felt truly welcome, respected and my pedicure was second to none. My feet and toes were ready to adorn glass slippers and head to Buckingham Palace but I went home. Great pedicure- mediocre manicure. The pedicure was $25 and it included leg/calf massage and everything you expect from a pedicure. My feet looked and felt great afterwards. The manicure was only okay- a couple nails didn't look great, had a couple bubbles in the color, but I didn't bother asking for the woman to redo those, I probably should have and I'm sure she would have obliged with no problems. Just went here for the first time for an eyebrow wax. The place is so clean and beautiful inside. Everybody working said hello when I walked in! I've come here a few times and have always had a good experience. The most recent time I came I got a pedicure. Later the next day I noticed big smudges on my big toes even though I had been wearing flip flops or barefoot since the appointment. Very disappointed. Went here because I saw that they had a deal going. Ended up getting a mani pedi and it all was fine. Until I got a really bad toe infection from this place. My toe was all swollen and red and painful to touch. I ended up having to go to the doctors and get put on an antibiotic for a few weeks. The number didn't work, but I found this one, which did, on Google. Hi. I am not sure why there are a couple of negative reviews because I love this place. First of all, it is really pretty; I mean it: you walk in and it's all in shades of yellow and very clean. The staff is always very nice--polite and pleasant. I finally came here because at my old nail salon the polish on my nails for pedicures just did not last; my toe polish was chipped in a week. Here the polish lasts until you really, really need to get another pedicure. Also, the pedicurist gives your feet and legs a great massage. While you are drying your feet they will give you a shoulder and neck massage for an extra tip, but you are under no obligation to get one, which I usually don't do. I highly recommend Julie's nail salon. It's a very pleasant atmosphere with a great staff. BEST OF ALL: THE PRICES ARE GOOD!!! read more

This was my first and last time at Julie's nails. I am new to the area and decided to try Julie's nails because I saw they had great reviews. I went and got a faded French manicure/ombré French manicure. I brought a picture in with me and showed it to them. They did a good job at replicating it but they also charged me $42 for just that. I didn't think much about it while I was there but a few hours after I got home I went to search online how much their prices were. Turns out that both a mani pedi costs $37. So for them to charge $42 for just a mani in insane. They definitely don't do bad work and if you're okay with that price then go to them but 42+tip for me for just nails is insane. read more

I was very please with the atmosphere, the staff was friendly and quiet; they weren't all having conversations in their own language while working on my nails which was a nice change from previous places I have been too. I received one of the best pedicures I ever had. The massage was outstanding and it included, hot towel and rock treatment, with an additional treatment to the heals I never had done before. It was a nice touch. I got a mani/pedi. You can tell they take pride in their work, because they took their time with each service and I was very pleased with the results. I started going here in December when my nail tech at Pink's "forgot" about my appointment for the third time. I really enjoyed going to Julie's but lately it is taking longer and longer for my UV color nail appointment. The past two manicures haven't lasted more than a week which is disappointing considering I tip at least 20% and the manicure is $50. Went to Julie's nails yesterday...I will not be going back! Got a pedicure that was awful. My feet (heels) actually looked worse than when I walked in. I complained during the pedicure and the girl used the pumice stone maybe 5 seconds longer...needless to say I was not happy but had to leave. I called the next morning and asked for the owner, I was told she is not there so I explained that I was very unhappy with my pedicure and my feet looked awful and I had an event this coming weekend and was embarrassed to wear sandals so they told me to come in at 1:00pm today. When I got there they told me "oh you need special callous pedicure-more money"...uh, NO! I explained again that I was there the day before and asked the same girl if she remembered that I was not happy. She said yes, but it will cost you more money...I told them, they could do the right thing and work on my heels so they looked freshly pedicured or give me my money back.....she reached in the drawer and gave me my money back...LOUSY CUSTOMER SERVICE! I was given a gc here a while back and have been going back ever since. They are clean and thourough and hard working. While it isnt the BEST Pedi/mani ive EVER gotten, it is well worth the price ESPECIALLY with the AMAZING back massage you get while drying. Its not a chop, rub done in 30 sec massage...we are talking warm stones, lotion, hot towels and it lasts about 8-10 mins!! This is what I mostly go here for, very sad when they dont offer it...it has happened. I'd recommend to anyone who isnt phobic of a NON-"salon/spa" atmosphere.
