    Steak tips
    Marjorie C.

We stopped in around 3:30 on a Saturday. Our hostess was less than gracious as she led us to a table, tossed menus and flatware on it, and stormed off without a word. Maybe she is struggling with something we don't know about. Our server was Brock-a very pleasant and handsome young man. He got our order and promptly brought out some absolutely freaking delicious biscuits with apple butter. Honestly, I'm usually critical of restaurant biscuits but these were fantastic. And I wanted to lick the apple butter container but thought it imprudent to do so in public. I got the hand cut steak tips with mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, and fried okra. Spouse got hamburger steak with peppers and onions, mashed potatoes, and steamed broccoli. While we waited I looked around at the decor, which is definitely patriotic and religious. I loved the bird feeders on the windows! There's no picture of the biscuits and apple butter because we ate them like savages as soon as they were out on the table. I can't say enough about how delicious my steak tips were. They were perfectly cooked, tender, and altogether scrumptious! I'm a gravy snob too, so my standards are impossibly high. I mean I couldn't make it any better myself. So good. Everything else was delicious, and this review is too long so I'll stop here. Definitely a great place to eat when in Murphy!

Oh my goodness! If you're ever in the Murphy, NC area make sure to treat yourself to Julie's Place. The food, the service, the atmosphere, etc. is all super sweet and amazing! My husband and I aren't the kind of people who like to eat at chain restaurants when we're traveling. We were visiting the area because of a death in the family. The owner, Julie, treated our family very well and I couldn't be more grateful. We got to eat here several times during our stay. Oh man. The first day, hubs had a grilled cheese and tomato soup while I did the soup/salad combo that was a house salad and their house made chicken and dumplings. We left very full! Those dumplings are some of the best I've had. On another visit, hubs got the catfish while I got the kids' portion of popcorn shrimp. It was more than enough shrimp for me. It came with a side (fries) and I still couldn't eat it all! The portions are very generous! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his catfish with fried okra and fried squash. The menu is very large and everything looks/sounds good! There are sweet painting and signs all over the restaurant - especially sunflowers! It's definitely a very small town family run restaurant and I LOVE it! The prices are great too! I promise that if you visit Julie's Place you won't be disappointed.

Good food, good experience. This is one of the better restaurants we have tried and returned to since moving to the area from Georgia.

My partner ordered the buffet and I ordered the special which was fish & chips. When my food arrived, it honestly looked delicious but my first bite was undercooked fish & batter. The batter was crispy on the outside but the inside was gloppy. It was disappointing to say the least. Now, I will say our young waitress said they were understaffed which could account for the fish being inedible. I will say another waitress was very kind and removed the item off my bill and was very gracious about it. My partner's food seemed to be quite good but the soups were extremely salty and the chilli was cumin heavy . So in all honesty, would I go back & give them another chance? Probably not . It's difficult to overcome a bad first impression

I wanted to try their pancakes but didn't want a full stack, and our server Robin was wonderful in recommending the Sweet Start. One thing we really appreciated is that all breakfast entrees include coffee or tea, and the prices are already very reasonable. We were also pleasantly surprised to learn that even though we ordered specialty coffees, we could still enjoy complimentary refills of regular coffee. The restaurant has a charming and unique atmosphere, with every table looking a little different from the next. For my meal, I ordered the Sweet Start, which included one pancake, eggs, and bacon. I also appreciated the transparency from the staff. When I asked for an extra serving of their homemade pecan butter, I was informed upfront that there would be an additional charge....a level of honesty that's surprisingly rare these days. My husband ordered the Banana Nut French Toast comes with homemade whipped cream and homemade pecan butter, which also came with bacon. He added a side of eggs as well. Everything was delicious. I'm especially particular about pancakes, and I can honestly say they serve some of the best pancakes I've had. The food was excellent, the service was friendly and attentive, and what stood out most was how genuinely happy all the staff seemed to be. It created a warm and welcoming atmosphere that made our visit even more enjoyable. We would definitely return the next time we're in the area.

You walk in, grab a tray, and you've got options. You can go through the hot bar and get served right there, pay, and be on your way... or order off the menu, sit down, and they'll bring the food to you. Very simple and efficient. The inside is spacious with plenty of seating, and there's also outdoor seating if you want it. Parking is easy too, which is a big plus, especially compared to the chaos you'll run into closer to Helen. Food wise, I always judge breakfast spots by the chicken, egg, and cheese biscuit... and this one held up. The chicken was tender, the biscuit was soft and fresh, and overall it was a solid start. The surprise for me was the hashbrown casserole. It came out good, but once I added a little salt, the flavor really popped. Definitely worth getting. The pancakes were also done right... nice crispy edges with a soft, fluffy inside. That's exactly how pancakes should be. Menu wise, they've got everything you'd expect from a Southern breakfast spot... biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, country ham, pancakes, omelets, and even lunch style items like burgers and plate meals if you come later. They also have a Coca-Cola fountain, which is always a win. Service was friendly, especially for early morning, and the whole place just has that comfortable, old-school home cooking feel. There is also a drive thru if you don't feel like leaving your car. Overall, this is a great spot if you want a good breakfast without the crowds. Simple, tasty, and easy.
