Oh man, where do I start. I took my husband here, because we hadn't tried it before. When we walked in, we waited to be seated, we were standing close to the cash register and kitchen area. As we waited we listed to one of the staff complaining that wasn't a great sign. As we were being seated, we noticed all the cute decor! Someone took a lot of time to make the place look so cute! The waitress was super attentive! Hubby ordered the special, a Meatball sandwich and I ordered a salad with fried chicken tenders... I had to cheat a little bit. That Fried Chicken was calling my name! The food came out after a little bit of a wait. I completely understand because the chicken was fresh. But my poor hubby got a mess of a sandwich. It appears they made the sandwich and it sat while the chicken cooked. It was a soppy soggy mess. The bread was drenched and completely mush. He said the French Fries weren't much better. I asked him if he could eat just the meatballs and he picked up them each up with a fork and each and everyone of them were completely black on one side. Totally burned. Boy I felt bad because my chicken was delicious! This is the reason I added two stars. We went to pay, my husband leaving his hot mess in his plate. The owner was at the cash register, I found this out because she answered the phone while checking us out (stating her name was Julie). She was in such a mood, she was rude to the person on the phone placing an orderIn fact she was even rude to us, she scared the bjesus out of me....so we didn't say a word. I sure didn't want to complain and start an altercation . Hubby will never go back. He was not happy at all. I might go back, maybe with a friend and hope next time is better ‍ Possibly everyone was having a bad day? It was not crowded when we dined, as it was around 2:30pm. The food is I would say a meat and three. But they have Italian food, wraps, burgers really a white assortment. The restaurant is very clean and very family friendly. The White staff is amazing. Definitely worth a stop coming through Murphy. Also they have a breakfast menu that is served throughout the day as well. Highly recommend. read more

We stopped in around 3:30 on a Saturday. Our hostess was less than gracious as she led us to a table, tossed menus and flatware on it, and stormed off without a word. Maybe she is struggling with something we don't know about. Our server was Brock-a very pleasant and handsome young man. He got our order and promptly brought out some absolutely freaking delicious biscuits with apple butter. Honestly, I'm usually critical of restaurant biscuits but these were fantastic. And I wanted to lick the apple butter container but thought it imprudent to do so in public. I got the hand cut steak tips with mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, and fried okra. Spouse got hamburger steak with peppers and onions, mashed potatoes, and steamed broccoli. While we waited I looked around at the decor, which is definitely patriotic and religious. I loved the bird feeders on the windows! There's no picture of the biscuits and apple butter because we ate them like savages as soon as they were out on the table. I can't say enough about how delicious my steak tips were. They were perfectly cooked, tender, and altogether scrumptious! I'm a gravy snob too, so my standards are impossibly high. My wife and I went to this charming place the day prior to father's day 2026 for lunch. Busy would be an understatement. Staff was pleasant and attentive, the owner passed by several times and asked how things were. It truly did remind me of being at my grandmother's as the story in the front of the menu says it will. Oh my goodness! If you're ever in the Murphy, NC area make sure to treat yourself to Julie's Place. The food, the service, the atmosphere, etc. is all super sweet and amazing! My husband and I aren't the kind of people who like to eat at chain restaurants when we're traveling. We were visiting the area because of a death in the family. The owner, Julie, treated our family very well and I couldn't be more grateful. We got to eat here several times during our stay. Oh man. The first day, hubs had a grilled cheese and tomato soup while I did the soup/salad combo that was a house salad and their house made chicken and dumplings. We left very full! Those dumplings are some of the best I've had. On another visit, hubs got the catfish while I got the kids' portion of popcorn shrimp. It was more than enough shrimp for me. It came with a side (fries) and I still couldn't eat it all! The portions are very generous! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his catfish with fried okra and fried squash. The menu is very large and everything looks/sounds good! There are sweet painting and signs all over the restaurant - especially sunflowers! Sure wish I could give more Stars! Julie's Place is a throwback to the feeling of yesteryear, with a dash of modern thrown in where necessary. Visiting some dear ol' friends, I can thank them for the plan to take me here. Even the anticipation was mouthwatering! We arrived right after the Saturday lunch rush, so we got right in. Greeting, seating then eating! The place was still busy, including a nice group of firefighters with their shiny red fire truck. Thank you for your service! My very FIRST impression? How incredibly nice all of the staff was! Everyone that passed by welcomed us, with genuine enthusiasm. BONUS. They all laughed at MY goofy humor. Another cool note? Most of the staff's shirts bore some witty saying, so that helped me feel right at home. For sure. (I've included pics!) Food. What about the food, dude? Oh. Yeah... Our party of 4 foodies went on a menu trek. The trail began with a Combo App order. You can choose two half order appetizers. We chose Fried Green Tomatoes and Fried Mushrooms. The mushrooms were sliced, which was different from the usual fried buttons. But a nice take on the theme. Delicious. To me, Fried Green Tomatoes are the heartbeat of any down home Southern meal. And that first bite of Julie's version was a rush of adrenaline, food wise. WOW! Crispy outside, sweet & ultra juicy inside. BEST I've ever had. Period. Bravo! Our J's Place saving grace, our server extraordinaire, her name is Chloé. Google 'great service', you'll get a picture of Chloé. Food. What about the food, dude? Here we go. Been a frequent customer of Julie's for many years now. The food and service never disappoints if it does they make it right. Seeing they had a new item on the menu, prime rib I decided to try it. It was very tasteful and seasoned with a good crust. The basket of fried mushrooms as an appetizer was very fresh and fried perfectly. Their cream corn is one of my favorites. First time for this place. We split the meatloaf special since we saw how many people were leaving with boxes of leftovers. We were also just passing by and did not have a cooler with us. The waitress brought our waters (tea was $3.29) and brought an extra plate. The food was hot and we just split the meal and still left food behind. We like to go to restaurants/cafes in between peak times, avoiding waiting/crowds. Greeted warmly, seated immediately. Casual, warm, country kitchen-type atmosphere. Waitress promptly took our drink orders and then our food orders: fried green tomatoes, chicken & dumplings, chicken fried chicken. Received our food within 10 minutes, all delicious with the exception of fried okra which was chewy/lukewarm/came out of a bag. (Either offer fresh fried okra or take it off the menu). We got some peach cobbler to go (it was awesome) We definitely recommend Julie's place! read more

My family was just passing through to hike some trails and Ride the GSMR and found this wonderful Gem. We ate there both days we were in town. Julie, Jenna, and Victoria made us feel just like one of the family. The Food was amazing. If they just made biscuits and collard greens, it would have been worth a 4 hour drive. We had Catfish, Meatloaf, Pork Chops, Burgers and Chicken during our 2 days. Everything was "Grandma worthy", If your grandma was one of those grandmas all your friends wanted to visit just hoping she was cooking that day. The decor is so quaint and homey. Julie's is an amazing local spot with delicious home cooking. They bring you fluffy hot biscuits with warm apple butter to start your meal. We also got the fried green tomatoes. Delicious. We also got (and split) the Smokehouse chicken (came with two chicken breast). Covered with sautéed mushrooms, barbecue sauce, cheese, bacon and just deliciousness!! The staff were all true examples of southern hospitality. All seemed very thrilled to work there. Hours are hard for us to make it here, so we are on our lunch break. Yeah that kind of day, have lunch at 4:30. Atmosphere - An old home turned into a restaurant. They did a great job, we must have had at in the living room as that area had a lot of tables. You could see a few other rooms with a few tables. Food Drink - Still working, just on a break, so water. Apps - We got a order of biscuits with apple butter. Okay I could at that for my lunch and been happy. I also ordered a half order of the fried pickle chips. I ate them all like a little pig. Lunch - Nice burger selection here, so I decide on the Carolina burger. It is a quarter pound of Angus beef topped with two onion rings, BBQ sauce, cheddar jack cheese, with lettuce, tomato, and pickles on a toast Brioche bun. Look at my picture, that will tell you how amazing it was Service - Pretty good, our waitress did disappear at the end of service. Another waitress found ours to let her know we were done. Been there a few times. Every getting something different. The only negative feedback I have is that I ordered one thing that disappointed me. I ordered chicken and dumplings. My grandma made the best but that doesn't stop me from trying other recipes. . I'm not attempting to be complaining but it just didn't have it. The waitress offered a different option. The waitresses are great, the customers are great. Repeat customers are great , the place is spick and span. Love the atmosphere. I feel badly even mentioning it. There was so many things to choose from, but ended up with the Hamburger Steak. It was cooked perfectly and delicious. The service was absolutely fantastic, especially Kiersten! The Resturant is adorable. Our waitress (Sierra) was an absolutely delight and the food as awesome. Nothing was cold. Which is a pet peeve. I had the meatloaf and the hubs had a burger. We popped in to try this place during a visit to Murphy, NC. The staff here were all very friendly and they were wearing masks. We were seated at a table that was distanced from others which was great since this is during COVID. We were given the menu with their Sunday specials. You pick your entree and it comes with unlimited sides to share. My boyfriend ordered meatloaf and I ordered chicken and dumplings. The sides for the day were mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, pinto beans, and fried squash. After a short wait, our food arrived and we dug in. The chicken and dumplings were delicious. Their version is the more thick stew style and had a great flavor and melt in your mouth dumplings. The corn on the cob was tender, the fried squash was yummy, and the pinto beans were actually my favorite. They had a lot of flavor. The mashed potatoes could have used some gravy which I'm sure I could have requested, but I was getting full anyway so I enjoyed them fine as they were. My boyfriend liked his meatloaf as well. The meals also come with your choice of dessert. I chose the apple bread pudding which was soooo good! Meals are also served with homemade biscuits with butter and warm apple butter. I could have easily just filled up on these! All of the items plus your beverages are included in the menu price of the entree so it's a lot of food at a really good deal. Julie herself came by and checked on us. The restaurant had nice decorations, both their holiday and regular ones and family pictures displayed in different areas.
