My friend had recommended we meet up here, after having had a great experience in the past. I didn't think it was anything to write home about. The gruyere and mushroom omelet was good, but the half piece of toast that accompanied it was beyond burnt. I love that they include tip in the prices to ensure the staff are getting a fair wage, but was annoyed by the less than adequate portion sizes. Guests simply walk to host @ the cash register, order, take your number, and find a seat. Breakfast/brunch dishes are small enough that guests are coming and going fairly quickly, so you won't be waiting for seats. They thought of everythhing... *Service is just phenomenal. The waiter/waitresses, cashier, chef, and back of house cleaners are all posed, proper, and charming. *The menu holds just the right amount to match the minimalist aesthetics of the restaurant. Simple, chic, and elegant. *Aesthetics... nothing less than beautiful. The open kitchen and high ceilings, and glass windows, make the restaurant inviting and divine. *Food: Order the toast w/ eggplant & dried fruit (dashed with dried sumac). It will blow your mind. The chia seed pudding and quinoa bowl were insanely good. They use the freshest ingredients that you can actually taste. And the presentation is just exquisite. Came to Juliet for brunch. Cool ambiance! Reminds me a lot of a European style-cafe. I liked the counter seating where you can chat with the chefs and watch the food being cooked. Also cool no-tip policy. Heads up that almost all of the entrees have eggs in them! I wish there were some more sandwich/sweet options, but the eggs were awesome. I got the po-boy sandwich and the baguette was perfectly crispy and the eggs were soft and lemony and flavored nicely. Tomatoes added some nice extra flavor. I thought the potato salad was so-so. I received a season pass as a gift and went to the Roman holiday menu. Service was welcoming and accommodating. Our severs were educated on the menu. The open kitchen was fun to watch. Cocktails were delicious. The menu was excellent. Anchovy butter, prosciutto broth, and antipasto salad were great bites. The duck was seasoned and cooked to perfection. I prefer my ravioli pasta to be thinner or have more filling. The broth overtook the pasta, so I couldn't really taste the filling. I'm looking forward to the next meal. Ugh I was very disappointed with this place but only because I think I had high expectations. I think the place might have improved since I ate there 3 weeks ago, but when we went for lunch the selection was very small, everything was pork (fine for most but hit me with some variety), and rather pricey for small portions. Upsides: the bread was so damn fresh. Crunchy outside, warm and fluffy inside...I really appreciated this. Also, cool ambiance. PLEASE DON'T EVER GIVE CUSTOMERS A SALAD WITH DRESSING ON THE SIDE UNLESS THEY ASK FOR IT THIS WAY! And if they ask for it this way, you can ask them, "Are you sure you want the dressing on the side?" Sure, this practice is acceptable at Applebee's but not at a restaurant that considers themselves to be "chef-y." Granted the salad I got was mixed greens to go along with my sandwich, but still. Not acceptable. To add insult to injury, the salad dressing was very thin and acidic. It could have used some viscosity and sweetness to stick to the greens and balance their bitterness. As for the roast beef sandwich, the bread (baguette) was terrific, the roast beef was high quality stuff and the pickled onions (?) were a nice added touch. My one problem with it was that there simply was too much bread and not enough beef. I could barely taste the meat. My lemon bergamot iced tea was fantastic however. This is a great space with extremely friendly service. I've heard great things online so I'll be back again soon to give the breakfast items a try. Unlike my $15 sandwich, most dishes seem to be very reasonably priced. In the meantime, please start dressing salads for your customers! read more

What an unexpected gem! Did the tasting menu on a groupon with my girlfriend. The place looks like a cafe. Open air kitchen. Bakery items. Music coming from a credenza in the corner. But every plate was delicious and unique. Early courses featured interesting use of various vinegars paired perfectly with a few choice ingredients. Roast duck and mushroom crepes were superb and hearty. Dessert was beyond good and convinced us to grab some muffins on the way out. The bakery obviously not just for show! We went for the Prime Rib special on Thursdays and had a beautiful time. The atmosphere is comfortable and pleasing. The owners are delightful and always there, and because they have a profit sharing system in place their staff also seems to be pretty invested. The prime rib plate was well portioned, seasoned, and tender. I've also come back for the breakfast which also hits the spot, they make a perfect french omelette. This is the kind of place where you go to be in a beautiful and bright room, to be treated well, and be fed equally beautiful food. And while the price point is a little higher, it's certainly more affordable then the 'tasting menu' restaurants and other high end places that exist in the surrounding squares while still delivering food that is similarly on-par. Juliet makes good high-end food affordable in a week to week, and even day to day context. read more

I used to be a regular at the Sherman Cafe, so I was eager to see the new cafe that took its place. Juliet is petite and minimalist, with pure white subway tile and an open kitchen where workers mill about, working on... something? They seemed to be busier than the amount of food coming out to tables warranted, so I'm guessing that some pastry-making was taking place. This place is not to be confused with Sherman. There are just four tables, and the rest is counter seating on stools, so there isn't really space for a bustling crowd, nor parties of more than 2 or 3. There also didn't seem to be a ton of outlets, so this doesn't appear to be a likely Mac farm in the future. So I'm curious to see how this place evolves--at present, it feels like a cafe from the South End plopped down in Union Square. Are we supposed to sit & savor? Take off as soon as we're done to make room for the people hovering over our shoulder? A couple of things felt slightly off. There are only a handful of tea options, and black tea isn't one of them. They bring your food out to you, but then you have to go hunt for your own disposable fork. There is a list of things on the menu, but nothing is elaborated upon. Did anyone get the toast with eggplant and apricot? I am SO curious about that. But how's the food? Well, delicious. And tiny. I had the avocado & grapefruit toast ($6) and added a soft-boiled egg ($2). The toast was beautiful--visually, it was perfection: little slices of avocado and tender sections of grapefruit with ribbons of fennel, and the flavors together were refreshing and summery. The egg was cooked perfectly. I don't know if I'd call it a meal, though--perhaps more of a fancy snack. And although they do what they do well, I'm not sure that I'll be enticed to return for another petite, though exquisite, plate of toast--it's lovely, just not particularly my thing. read more

I don't want to eat here. The "egg and piperade" is $11 for what can't be more than 50 cents of food. One scrambled egg, two pieces of white toast, and four bites of lettuce. You will leave very hungry. In fact, the first thing I'm going to do when I leave is... go out to breakfast. The piperade, which sounds like a big feature based on the name of the dish, is one teaspoon of pickled onion and pepper that was gross and ruined both the eggs and the lettuce. The terrible value would be more palatable if the food were amazing, but the dish wasn't even enjoyable. Bottom line: they're not making anything you can't make, and they're charging 20-25X what it would cost to do it yourself. Time to go find some breakfast :/ read more

This is a preliminary review which was based on a single visit one day for lunch. I will update and hopefully upgrade the stars upon returning from a future visit. I must say I might have stumbled into an alternate reality version of this restaurant because based on the yelp reviews you'd expect to step into a Parisian Portal. However, this day the universe curved back on itself I found myself in a small but sunny corner of Sommerville, MA. I ordered "Jambon de Paris" and literally got a deli ham sandwich on a passable baguette; you'd never be served this the real Paris! The "Basil Lemonade" was fresh but overly sweetened. The service is pleasantly efficient, with the hipster "edge" attitude that so many striving, establishments seem to effect. The dinner menu looks promising so I plan on a return experiment. First visit on Valentines Day 2020. Wonderful experience! Took my boyfriend for the Roman Holiday menu and we were both impressed. Thoughtful presentation and wine pairings, and absolutely delish! We are looking forward to our next visit. I would strongly suggest trying the full menu with all wine pairings- it does make a difference in experiencing the food. Came here for brunch with my girlfriend and loved it. The wait was kind of long but totally worth it! Our food was prepared perfectly and the atmosphere is great. One of my favorite things was the Ramona sparkling wine with grapefruit that comes in a can. We were so impressed with it that we asked where we could find it and the staff were more than willing to call around and figure out where we could buy it. I asked for a salad and the waitress recommended Juliet's salad with fried chicken skin. I requested this salad with no fried chicken skin. My salad came on a plate with literally 1 slice of apple that was cut up into thin strips. What's disturbing is the plain and simple salad that you can get from any grocery store in a plastic bag for $2.99 and can be used for 6-8 servings. The price for my salad is $20. Whoever did reviews on this restaurant needs to go out there and explore to open their horizons. Reviews on this restaurant are so biased and I don't even think they're real from real customers. Came in here a few days after they opened and then again this weekend (first real weekend) it's a great space with ample seating, tables/counter seating. The menu has a good variety to it and they even have prefixe counter specials. The coffee menu is basic, do not expect to see specialty lattes or every type of espresso drink. They keep it simple to coffee, iced coffee, espresso, Capp. Etc. although the coffee is really good. I have not got food yet, as the prices have already gone up. They are EXTREMELY pricey and expensive. An egg sandwich with greens is $7, if you want to add cheese!! Or ham it's an extra 2 dollars. And $9 dollar breakfast sandwich... Really. They do have an intriguing looking breakfast bowl with quinoa, egg, avocado which I'm intrigued to try. It's a new place, so they are a little slow but I'm sure working on kinks. Prepare to be wowed by Juliet's simply beautiful interior, artistic plating, and very tasty/light food (not your typical greasy brunch fare). It's now our go-to brunch spot; I can see it being a cute date spot, too. Food: - Go early for the Avocado/grapefruit/fennel toast! Best one IMO. We were able to catch it once but other times we've gone (after 2 pm...hey, lazy Saturdays) they had run out! Get the soft boiled egg for a bit extra $, it's worth it. - Next best toast, esp. if you're a fan of smoked salmon, is the Salmon/yogurt/tamarind one. Creamy, flavorful, and guilt-free (not your standard version w/ cream cheese). - We always get the Breakfast Po Boy w/ House ham for a bit extra $ - also so worth. Chock-full of the best scrambled eggs ever (no idea how they make it so gooey/creamy yet light/fluffy at the same time), served hot w/ toasted bread, and paired w/ a side of fresh greens (which they dress with ONLY a bit of lemon juice), it's the perfect breakfast plate. - Other dishes we liked (not as stand-out as the above but still very good): Egg breakfast sandwich, Lobster toast (different from the roll), Spanish tortilla (if you like egg & thin-sliced potatoes). Drink: - The Rooibos tea soda! As a die-hard coffee person (and PROUD), I hardly expected to like this so much. So refreshing and only lightly sweetened. - The iced coffee here is also very good, not watered down. No complaints. First timer here. I ordered the Egg sandwich per the server's suggestion as their best breakfast option. The taste absolutely lived up to the taste. You get an egg served on an English muffin with decious pesto. Only problem is you have to add cheese or jamon which are $2 extra. It comes served with a small side of arugula and rhubarb. It's definitely on the smaller side so if you're really hungry don't order this. Go for the Egg Po Boy. I did really appreciate that the server told me the portion might be small. I prefer quality over quantity anyways. The interior is spacious and simple with white walls and tables. Good vibe and good addition to Union Square. UPDATE 11/25/18: My partner and I left Somerville about three months ago, and of all the things we miss, we may miss Juliet the most. Can't say enough nice things about Josh and Katrina, and Noah and Sam, and everyone who works here and always strived to make us feel welcome. The prix fixe meal in the dining room is special and a must at some point, but you can also make Juliet your neighborhood spot by grabbing a seat at the bar. Get the behind-the-scenes story on the food you're about to eat. Try the burger, which is always perfectly cooked, and the earl grey chocolate scones if you're in for brunch.
