Every ounce of food was incredible: we eat out a lot and I have to say, the seared foie was my favorite thing in awhile. We had escargot, foie and carpaccio. All incredible. Sat at the bar, and the service did leave a little bit to be desired. The bartender was pretty absent due to being very busy with making orders for tables. Martini was OK - would have thought a place like this would have a better vesper. The grilled tenderloin was absolutely delicious and so was the creamed spinach and potato confit (I switched the sides). But not sure it felt worth $70+ Dessert was sadly a bust. Warm chocolate torte was so gooey inside that tasted like flavorless brownie batter. The bartender said he would put a scoop of mousse on the side since I was deciding between the two. Didn't really want to pay for two desserts (hence trying to decide on just one), but he charged me for both. The mousse was also super average. Came for an anniversary dinner and we leaned into the richer side of the menu and it did not disappoint! Highlights - escargot came out in a piping hot buttery garlic herb bath, the duck was a very generous portion with nice crispy skin on top of creamy mushroom risotto that was balanced with the sweetness of the cranberry gastrique, and the osso bucco had good depth of flavor that went nicely with the polenta - definitely don't forget the bone marrow! The foie gras parfait was good, but a bit cold and hard - it got better as it came to room temp. Drinks were mixed well but nothing to write home about. We were stuffed by the end, but they treated us to some anniversary sorbet which was a nice touch. Service was excellent and the ambiance was elegant, just a bit loud. Came here for a birthday dinner and it was fantastic--from the service to the dishes we got, just about everything was well thought out. Father's Day, went to one of our old favs. We had stopped going two years ago as we thought it had gone severely downhill. Started going to their other restaurants , MOO and Soralina. Both excellent. Decided to give mistral a try again. Ambience excellent, service ok, food below average. Two of the three ordered the prime sirloin. Both overcooked by a lot . By the time the waiter checked in was too late to send back. The steak was not prime, tough, chewy. Hard to cut even with their steak knives. Worst steak I've had in a restaurant in years and at their prices that shouldn't be the case . The old rule , you want a steak go to a steakhouse. I guess that's why we stopped going there two years ago . Won't be back. read more

We recently took an out of town guest to dinner. We had not visited in a number of years and were very disappointed in the food. I had asparagus soup and Dover Sole. Both items were over salted by a large margin. I was surprised that the presentation of the sole was not done table side and was sitting in a pool of pan sauce. The soup looked beautiful with its puff pastry overlay but even that was too salt!y to enjoy. My husband loves duck but his was dry and looked sad on the plate. The ambiance and service were the stand outs.Maybe it was just a bad night in the kitchen but it was a drastic difference to earlier visits. Dessert was yummy...we all had a bite of rhubarb tart and ice cream. Sorry to say we won't be running back any day soon. read more

My lobster ravioli and rack of lamb from Colorado was extremely well executed. Frankly one of the best rack of lamb I ever had. Service was attentive and we had a great Barolo wine di Montelpuciano. Also love my improvised " Colonel with vodka and lemon sorbet. The profitero au chocolat are also very popular! You can sit at the bar without reservations. Everything was A-1 with my dinner here. It was packed on a Tuesday evening and very lively. Crab dumpling appetizer was delicious, and the pan-roasted halibut over saffron rice with mini-clams and calamari was perfection. The portions were just right -- the appetizer wasn't overly filling and the entree was substantial without being too much. Nice, citrusy cocktail and good wine list as well. The service was exactly as you would hope, keeping everything flowing smoothly and checking in just enough but not so often they were annoying. Would definitely return. The design is a little bland, and the light fixtures are those things with individual shades on the bulbs and many of them were askew, but your attention will rightfully stay on your plate most of the time. read more

Our evening at Mistral was truly exceptional. From the moment we sat down, the service was impeccable. We just walked in and they seemed very busy and we weren't even sure if we'd get a table. But after a few minutes they said they had a table. Cozy couch seating on one end. Dim lighting gives it this intimate atmosphere and the interior is beautiful with the chandeliers all over. The complimentary bread is really fresh and quite a big some shaped loaf cut into wedges. Warm bread came with butter and a spread. Very good! The Maine crab ravioli was delicate and flavorful. The squash soup came with a puffed croissant like bread baked on top of the bowl. Looked very fancy! The soup itself along with this amazing bread tasted almost like dessert! Very rich and creamy. We were quite full just from the bread and appetizers, so when the entrees came we just ate a little. I ordered the salmon which was nice tender light flavorful and came with mushrooms and squash. The hubs ordered the beef tenderloin pizza which was a thin crust pizza and he liked it although he ate only two slices of the six. Lots of leftovers which the packed nicely in boxes and brought in a bag to go. Overall great experience! read more

Personal favorite dishes of mine were the maine crab ravioli (very light, to the point, oceaney, in a fresh in-season tomato juice broth), and the foie gras brioche with duck confit (awesome umami, great slap in the face flavors, and very comforting). For dessert, we had ordered the chocolate torte, creme brulee, blueberry tart, and lemon/mango sorbet. The desserts were all very solid but my personal favorite was the creme brulee (loved the custardy creamy richness, and the taste of real vanilla beans). Had a good time! read more

Tonight my my husband and i went on a date. We were heated immediately at the door by someone that took our coats. We were seated. Our fuss came quickly. We were checked on often without it feeling overbearing. We ordered the scallop special, roasted duck, margarita pizza and the halibut dinner. Editing was flavorful. Always an exceptional experience at Mistral, despite being open for so many years. But they really took it to the next level with our visit celebrating my wife's and my 20th anniversary. The food and service was exceptional as always. We got the foie gras and peach/goat cheese salad apps, with duck and salmon for mains. All delicious and perfectly timed delivery to the table. But what really made it was that every single server knew it was our anniversary. They wrote happy anniversary on our dessert (normal for good restaurants), but I was floored that they also printed it on our menus!! For me, this is a guaranteed excellent meal. This was our birthday and anniversary dinner restaurant for years, like 15 years! But somehow we stopped coming- hadn't been in many years. Decided we were way over due so back we came. It was as wonderful as we remembered. A beautiful dining room with tall windows, gorgeous, comfortable seating. The servers are all professional and provide great service in a friendly, welcoming manner. The tuna appetizer is amazingly fresh and perfectly balanced. I also love the mussels but couldn't get all my faves! The manager heard we had been long time patrons and were back again, he stopped by our table. A nice touch. We had the profiteroles for dessert. Delicious as remembered. There is weekend valet parking but we opted for a nearby garage and a short walk. Happy to be back! read more

I went to Paris twice this year and had been missing escargot so much so when I had a chance to dine out with my friends, it was a no brainer to choose this restaurant as one of the reviews said they have the best Escagot in Boston. First of all, in term of the atmosphere, it was beautiful! The restaurant is gorgeous, and classic. There was construction in front of the restaurant so we couldn't see the beautiful architecture at the front door, but overall I love the vibes! The service was top notch!! Our server was friendly and attentive! A friend of mine spilled red wine on her white dress, and when she was trying to deal with it, a staff came over and asked if she needed help and then gave her the stain remover specifically to treat wine stain. That worked wonder and my friend was very happy!! I had the escargot which was as good as my Paris version. The bread was so good! Great start for a French dinner! I personally had the Cornish hen and it was amazing!! We had a side order of mushroom and I loved it so much!!! As you see on the picture, there was 2 types of lamb that we ordered - the lamb rack and the boneless one. That was because at first my friend ordered the boneless one which wasn't what she expected and the restaurant did everything to make it right!! The manager was very nice and professional! He remembered my friend who went there for dinner a couple weeks ago! She wasn't a regular customer just happened to dine in there a couple weeks before our dinner. Food and ambiance was fantastic. However the waiters rushed the service and did not allow us to truly enjoy our meal. For example, whilst I ate my escargot, servers came by multiple times to check if my plate was ready to be taken, while I was eating. I know this because they asked as much and also because they took my partner's plate during this time. Our waiter was fair however a bit stern, especially when we asked for recommendations on dishes and menu specials. This rigidness was not exclusive to the wait staff - it also included the hostesses. It is a shame because we truly enjoyed the food but for this price, we should not feel rushed or unwelcome. Very unfortunate but will not be returning EDIT: The GM, Charles, reached out in response to this review. We had a pleasant conversation surrounding our dining experience and that the above situation had been addressed with the staff. This was extremely professional and classy of Charles to do and it is greatly appreciated. Because of this, I have updated my review from 3 stars to 4 stars overall. Not for the vegetarian diner. Minimal options to be expected at a French restaurant however for the price tag, I expected the vegetarian options to taste good. The linguine was one of the most disappointing dishes as well as the portobello appetizer. I had to take it home and completely rework it because it had no flavor. We came back for a post-graduation dinner and the place was jammed, noisy, hard to move in between the tables only to find that our party of 8, big people, were seating at a six-top with two extra chairs jammed in. That's straight not OK for a restaurant of this class and prices. The service was OK, the rack of lamb undercooked in two instances, but those fairly major flaws aside, it was pretty good. But restaurants are all about trust and I can longer trust this place to deliver a first-class experience. read more

If you like it more spreadable, then this is for you - Classic Escargot burgundy style with red wine & garlic butter, this was very tender and the garlic sauce makes a great dipping sauce for the bread given at beginning Entrée- - Pan Roasted East Coast Halibut with seafood paella risotto with tiny clams, I get this one almost every time we come. The halibut is fresh and not overcooked, the paella is very flavorful and plenty of seafood - Pan Roasted Cornish Game Hen is moist and not dry. Very large portion. Enough for 2 (if you eat the bread given and ordered appetizers) When it came time for dessert, we were tempted but was way too full. We told our server next time. But he was so sweet and brought us out a light sorbet dessert anyways. He said he couldn't let us celebrate our anniversary without a dessert! He knew we were full so he picked a sorbet for us. Lovely place, great atmosphere. Food is great! I tried the duck and it was delicious. Pizza is a must try, very different than the regular pizzas. The staff were very warm and helpful and guided us well. We ordered the easy sway for drinks, it wasn't too great, but in the non alcoholic options, this one seemed the best. We ordered the beef tenderloin pizza, the thin crust was lovely and truffle oil added richness to it. The beef on top was well cooked and tasted great. For entree we ordered the roasted duck and it didn't disappoint. It was well cooked with the skin on which made it crispier. The risotto base tasted great too. read more

Mistral is our favorite Restaraunt. And that says a lot because we are tough critics. We are foodies and eat out in boston on a regular basis. Yes there are other wonderful restaurants. But in our opinion Mistral is our number one choice for a fine meal. The food is consistently good. The butler service is impeccable. they anticipate your needs and are right there.
