This place never disappoints! Took my friend for her birthday and we of course did the chefs tasting. Food is always on point and this is the one place I would break my food habit rules for. If you're looking for a place to feel welcomed, I'd recommend spending your money somewhere else. We came here to celebrate the 4th of July, when people are out enjoying the holiday in casual clothes. Many guests were wearing shorts, just like us. When we asked if there were any tables available, the hostess first asked for our contact information. After seeing how we were dressed, another staff member came back and said, "We're fully committed right now. There are no tables available, you can sit at the bar." The interaction felt dismissive and unwelcoming. Whether intentional or not, it left us feeling like we were judged by our appearance rather than treated as paying customers. I really wanted to love Bistro du Midi because the location and atmosphere are hard to beat. It's right across from the Public Garden, the dining room is beautiful, and it's a great date night spot. That said, I don't think the food quite lives up to the price. The golden beets salad was honestly the best thing we ordered. Super fresh, well-balanced, and the flavors just worked. If you come here, I'd definitely recommend getting it. We also got the Wagyu beef tartare, which was solid. No complaints, but it also wasn't one of those dishes that makes you think about it days later. The duck breast was the biggest letdown. It was cooked properly, but the meat itself was tougher than I expected. For a restaurant at this price point, I was hoping it'd be a lot more tender. Even the bread service was disappointing. The bread was dry and chewy instead of warm and fluffy. The butter came out rock hard, so it was basically impossible to spread, and the olive oil tasted a little off. Not exactly the first impression you want. We also tried the Corsica Spritz and Les Épices Tonic mocktails. Honestly... just skip them. They were expensive for what they were and tasted pretty underwhelming. I've had much better NA drinks at restaurants that weren't trying nearly as hard. Overall, I don't regret coming because the ambiance is fantastic, but I also don't feel like I got my money's worth. If the prices were 20-30% lower, I'd probably be a lot more forgiving. Table Bread: Unremarkable. The bread was ordinary, and regardless, the aroma of olive oil simply wasn't as strong as butter. East Coast Oysters, Narragansett Bay Clams, Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail: The shells were fresh but on the smaller side; the shrimp were large but overcooked. The cocktail sauce was perfectly balanced in terms of tanginess, sweetness, and spiciness, refreshing and flavorful. The mignonette was ridiculously sour; one bite immediately stung my throat... Wagyu Beef Tartare: A delightful surprise! The oil richness of the Wagyu beef, the smoothness of the quail eggs, the subtle fragrance of the black truffle, and the sweetness and sourness of the vinaigrette blended beautifully. Bavette Steak: As usual, medium. The cross-section wasn't pretty, but the meat was quite tender and juicy. It's probably due to the cut of meat. But the aged balsamic vinegar was almost entirely burnt and bitter--unbelievable, is that right? Coffee Marquise: The texture was extremely dense and heavy, especially the bottom layer, which even stuck to the fork and was difficult to clean. Although I like bitterness, the bitterness from this coffee and dark chocolate was a bit extreme. Where was the mascarpone? Finally, I want to thank my waitress, Darian. She patiently confirmed and explained the dishes and sauces several times, satisfying my curiosity as a food lover. read more

The last two times I have gone to Bistro have been miserable. For one, there is a new manager there named Eric. When he first met me, he told me that "This is not a hotel. If I want a hotel, the Four Seasons is over there. It is booked up for six months." I could not comprehend that he was being insulting, because it was so extreme, it verged on nonsense. I was not underdressed. He then told me the room had no tables until 7:30, as I looked out over the room, at 50% capacity. So I said to put my name down. He asked if I really wanted to. I said yes. He then told me that it was actually 8:30. For a party of two... Last night, I came in with an easy reservation, and I was seated. I have eaten here for years. Toward the end of the meal, Eric came over to the table. I recognized him. I said, I know you. The last time I was here, you were incredibly rude to me. He said Okay, and then turned to my date. I told him that I would like him to leave. He asked if I was joking. I reiterated. He should have left. He called me an asshole. He seemed to walk off. He turned again and called me a piece of trash. My date was so upset by the exchange, she left soonafter in tears. The check was for $165. I left a $33 tip. She was the most beautiful and tender woman I had ever laid eyes on. I don't regret having asked Eric to leave, but I do regret that he was ever put in front of a customer. His behavior was sick. His composure was nil. He has a toxic ego, and he seems to think that then clientele of Bistro are for him to choose. He is not good at his job. I've come here for years. I sit at the bar. I love when the front walls are open and summer air fills the space. The decor is unique, gilded white marble. The bar is well appointed. Everybody I have ever met at Bistro is professional and kind, except for this new manager. Unfortunately, one such experience was enough, and now that I've had two, I will not come back. read more

The service was decent however within 10min of arriving, 1 server spilled a water glass on the table next to us and another server dropped a wine glass that shattered and some of the glass ended up hitting my partner's leg. We also noticed another server frantically rubbing a curtain they had in the top floor by where the food comes out in what I'm assuming that some food touched it on the way out or on the way back towards the end of our dinner. Starting the year out strong at Bistro du Midi - The food was amazing and I couldn't recommend more! For the main dishes, we had 1) Ora king salmon, nicely cooked and melts in your mouth and 2) duck breast, medium rare was the way to go (though not a fan of the texture of the foie gras barbajuan). For légumes, we had roasted carrots - 100% must have, wouldn't think I'd love carrots so much! We also had foraged mushroom tartine - this was a mixed feeling, the mushrooms were great but there was a very very thick slice of Brie, personally think could use a little less. The 2 starters we had weren't that great - we got the American wagyu beef tartare, which Idk if I could tell the difference if it was Wagyu or not, but taste felt a little blend. The Spanish octopus had a really good taste but texture was very very chewy and hard. It was overall a really great meal, though they kept trying to take our plates away while we're still eating away, which was a little off-putting. There was also some chaos happening (broken glass, spilled water, etc) but it was probably an off night. You do get a nice view of the public garden if you sit close to the window. American Wagyu Beef Tartare with Caviar - One of the best tartares I've had. Fresh, perfectly diced, and elevated by the quail egg and caviar. Only downside was the toast being a bit too hard. Spanish Octopus - Very tender, but the accompanying ingredients didn't work for me and took away from the dish. Duck Breast - The highlight of the night. Cooked perfectly with an amazing sauce. Would come back just for this. Lamb Cappelletti - The worse dish. Pasta was undercooked and the lamb tasted too gamey. Would skip. Service was friendly but lacked attention to detail. I noted it was a birthday in the reservation and mentioned it again upon arrival, but there was no acknowledgment or candle with dessert while other tables received one. Bistro du Midi is a fancy spot in Boston! It's definitely more posh than I initially expected which also means it's pricey. Two of us went for brunch, with just one cocktail each, and the bill came to over $200 after tax and tip. The restaurant has a lovely ambiance and sits right across from Boston Common, making it perfect for a post-brunch walk in the park. We dined on the second floor with whimsical views of the Common (it was winter and snowy!), though we noticed there's a first floor as well which seemed a bit more casual. We started with the beef tartare, which was one of the best I've ever had. It came topped with a quail egg and was absolutely perfect though a bit on the smaller side for the price point. Our cocktails were good, but nothing to write home about. They weren't over-the-top or experimental or anything like that; pretty basic, albeit still enjoyable. For mains, I had the burger and my husband ordered the steak and eggs. My burger was good, but I wasn't a fan of the bread they used. The steak and eggs were the real winner. The steak was delicious, although I wish the egg component had been incorporated a bit more thoughtfully rather than simply serving two poached eggs on the side. We ended the meal with the soufflé which was to die for. Definitely get it for dessert. Lastly, service was just okay. Our server seemed somewhat uninterested and barely checked in on us. Came here for the NYE tasting menu. Pros: The menu itself was very creative and I appreciated that they had multiple options for each course- It allowed us variety and to be able to try multiple dishes together. The food was fresh, beautiful presentation, and I enjoyed the taste of almost everything. The wild boar tagliatelle, fois gra, and wagyu cap* were my favorites. Cons: I was very disappointed in the serving size of a 5 course meal that cost $175. You can see in my pictures that each plate was basically a few bites. I left the meal still hungry and did not feel that the price was fair whatsoever. *Further, my boyfriend's wagyu cap was half fat. He was unable to eat HALF of that course, which was advertised as the main dish. We expressed our grievances very respectfully and the only thing they did was give him a free coffee... no new steak (I apologize for not taking a photo for proof but he left the half on the plate for them to see), no actual comp to our bill... just a free coffee. That is absolutely ridiculous to me. I'm paying a heavy price for a fine dining experience and one of the courses is half inedible. My fiancé and I love French food and Bistro du Midi did not disappoint! We decided to celebrate Valentine's Day here, we went the day prior as we prefer to avoid the crowds in restaurants on the actual holiday. It seems like there are two floors, we were seated on the first floor, it's a spacious restaurant with a large bar area with bar seatings. The menu offered foie gras terrine, however, we preferred seared foie gras, so we asked our server if it could be prepared that way. I was very happy when he told me they can prepare it seared. It ended up being a great pairing with banana and fig, it was the first time I've had that combination with foie gras. The steak tartare was a bit underwhelming for wagyu. Both entrees were great, especially the duck entree. The steak entree dish is quite expensive for what it was though. We ended our meal with creme brûlée, can't go wrong there! Overall, it was a nice experience. I believe it is a bit pricey compared to some other French restaurants in Boston. There's street parking. I would visit again. read more

I opted for their French Onion Soup, Mushroom Tortellini & Almond Torte. Each dish was lackluster. The most disappointing one was the almond torte because it tasted old / dry. The only redeeming one was the mushroom pesto tortellini which actually tasted decent (thanks to the pesto inside) but who doesn't like pasta? Bonjour Bistro du Midi! First time here but not our last. We made reservations for Dine Out Boston here, and so glad we did. Bistro du Midi (Midi is a region in Southern France) is located in the Back Bay--a stunning French restaurant with 2 floors. Upon entering, we were greeted by the Host, and after providing our names for the reservation, they instructed us to proceed upstairs to check in (ooh-lala). When we took the elevator upstairs, we were greeted by another host/manager, who escorted us to our lovely table. After a few minutes, they brought us the menus and gave us time to look them over. They had a great cocktail and wine list. Their wine list is a Wine Enthusiast awarded list for 2025, which was amazing to see. I started with their Bistro Quinze, and my husband had the Soleil du Midi; both were excellent. Since we were ordering off the Dine Out menu, we only had a few selections to choose from. I started with their Arugula salad, and my husband had their sweet corn soup. I enjoyed the soup much better. The salad was lacking in flavor, and the dressing was not the best either. For entrees, I had their scallops with eggplant ratatouille, and my husband had their steak frites. Both were good, but my scallops did not pair well with the ratatouille; it was a bit too heavy. I probably would've paired it with rice or a vegetable. For dessert, I had their Pistachio Baklava and my husband had a pecan gateaux. Both were delish! :) Overall: From first impressions to the last, everything was spectacular. Service was impeccable, and even though some of the dishes weren't my favorite, they were still very good. I would love to come back and try some of their other menu items. Boston really shows up polished at Bistro du Midi but take it off honey! We disrupt culture. Think pressed linens, hushed tones, and a room that takes itself just a little too seriously. Naturally, I did not get the memo. This dinner turned into a quiet social experiment where we straddled fun and inappropriate. Here's what we got...salmon that was buttery and I think it made me sit up straighter. The fromage moment because, if we're doing French, we're committing! This octopus actually understood proper texture (no rubber band nonsense). We also got the tuna tartare but tuna tartar is kind of tuna tartar to me. Somewhere between the first bite and the second round of laughs, the entire room started to loosen up. The stiff energy cracked, conversations got louder, and suddenly it felt less like a formal Parisian affair and more like a dinner party. Moral of the story is disrupt it. On arriving for dinner, we were offered seats downstairs but opted for the dining room instead. We visited on a weeknight for and there were a few tables but the room was far from full. The dining room is well decorated and a great setting for a special occasion. We ordered the seven course Winter tasting menu and couldn't believe how it improved with every dish. Absolutely extraordinary and recommended. The wine paring enhanced each serving. We did not plan on the tasting menu ahead of time, otherwise would have eaten less for lunch! Service was also extraordinary and at the highest level, with the wine pairing was narrated by two separate sommeliers during the evening and the food dishes distinctly narrated. I had lunch at Bistro du Midi this week, when I was in Boston for work, and it was a lovely meal. The restaurant is beautiful but comfortable (I was seated on the main level), facing the Public Garden. The service was outstanding throughout - friendly and attentive. I started with their Black Truffle Cauliflower Soup (with foraged mushroom, sweet potato, and Burgundy truffle), which was delicious. I almost used my finger to scrape every last drop in the bowl. Then I had the caviar omelette (with Osetra royal caviar, spinach, cheese, and chives), which had a little more cheese than I would have preferred, but was perfectly cooked and delicious. It was served with a small salad, and I was quite full. My server recommended a lovely white wine to enjoy with my meal -- so I was set. Overall, just a lovely meal - delicious food and good service in a beautiful atmosphere. I'd happily return. read more

We came here during Boston restaurant week. It is a beautiful restaurant across from Boston Common. In the summer you can sit outside and see Boston Common. The lunch menu is good and offered great price! I got the kale salad, duck confit and mango tiramisu. The kale salad had too much cheese. Way too much that you can't taste the salad. If I had known, I would have asked for less cheese. The duck confit was swimming in the bean sauce. I did not like the bean nor the sauce. The duck itself was good. The mango tiramisu did not taste anything like tiramisu. It was a good mango sponge cake. Now the service - the server did come many times before my friend arrived to ask if I wanted anything. That was nice. However, when we were ready to order, and when the bread was served, I asked him if I could have butter instead of oil and he said he would check. He never did. For the many times after when he came to our table he never said if there was butter or he just all forgot about my request. I understand they might not have butter, but at least inform me! Holding its own so many years later, Bistro du Midi is wearing the helm of Boston refined dining quite well. Our evening, headed by Chef Sisca, was a delight. After being greeted on the ground level and led upstairs to our table by what seemed to be a procession of "maitre d'hotel"s (they were so nice I'm going to give their full name), we were seated overlooking the public garden -- which is the real star of the ambiance (although the cream and soft wood tones did made the artwork pop). The chef trained at Le Bernardin, so I took it on faith that Chef knows his way around a fish dish. We decided to indulge in the Halibut (not everyone feels like bouillabaisse), duck au vin and pesto gnocchi. An odd-sounding combination, but it worked well. The halibut was well-cooked with enough firmness to capture the curry broth and a crispiness in the skin to serve as an interesting textural note. The broth itself was light (perhaps too light) but together with the mushroom in the dish brought an earthiness. The duck was well-cooked, but I found the flavors a bit muted -- perhaps the vin part should have been doing a bit more work. No matter because the gnocchi was pillowy, pesto not too strong and had enough textural elements embedded --pine nuts, fiddle heads -- to offer a surprising balance. The combination of pesto and feta even brought a hint of welcome saltiness. With No. 9 gone, I feel like the old guard is in danger of dropping like flies. Old but certainly not out here. Came for brunch with a friend but had dined a while ago for dinner (chocolate soufflé was unforgettable but is unfortunately only available as dessert during dinner service :/) We ordered french onion soup (perfect soup to warm up from the Boston winters, I do recommend), ricotta pancakes (generous portion, taste was ok) with a side of bacon (extremely generous size for a side), and the burger (good). All in all, great experience. Haven't tried anything else on the brunch menu but would recommend this place for dinner or drinks at the bar which was very cute! Professional, & attentive without being over-present. This is a great highlight that makes the menu really stand out. For lunch we had the Prix Fixe Onion Soup, Bouchon Chicken, a glass of Tatinger and for dessert, Crème brûlée. All excellent. Delicious and timed very well. Ambience was great. Service started off well, but unfortunately the afternoon tea assortment left us puzzled. There was an item advertised in the menu and website in the afternoon tea assortment. However, when the tiered tray was brought out, one of the items specifically the opera cake was nowhere to be found on both ours and a nearby table when we glanced over. When asking a nearby server, our waiter was brought back and briefly claimed that an eclair was meant to replace this item until he realized the eclair was already on the menu in addition to the opera cake which he caught after we went over the menu together. In his brief fluster, he said he would consult with the chef. Eventually we were offered more macarons (some were already included on the set) which we politely declined due to overlap as we were informed that they were supposedly out of opera cake. For context we had the earliest slot for afternoon tea that day and they only serve 2-4. After that incident we proceeded to finish our meal and it seemed that our original waiter was avoidant leading us to ask for boxes and the check through another server. While a sort of replacement was offered, we do feel the overlap of offered item wasn't a great solution and despite not taking anything, I do admit wishing they would of at least offered a small discount as we essentially missed out on an item menu. I did notice upon catching the mistake and informing the staff, that our very own original waiter did continue to do his full explanation of the tiered tray to tables that started after us, not pointing out the missing item we found not was there any explanation or supplement. This really felt like a lack of professionalism and lack of care from the chef wanting to offer any sort of compensation. My friends and I visited this past weekend to try the new afternoon tea experience. All things considered, I'd say this experience was just okay, especially with it being a new thing at this restaurant. The servers were decently attentive. There was no bathroom on the 2nd floor where this was held though, which I thought was a little inconvenient. I had the vanilla bourbon tea which tasted delicious, and the pastries and croque monsieur were good, but the cucumber and salmon sandwiches were a little off. They both tasted a bit too salty, and the cucumber sandwich was strangely tart. The amuse bouche (some type of soup with lobster and basil oil) was kinda bland and just tasted like cream. The tea also cooled off pretty quickly, not sure if different teaware may have prevented that. Maybe they'll get these things ironed out as time goes on. read more

A Taste of Paris in the Heart of Boston I visited Bistro du Midi on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, and it truly felt like a little slice of Paris in downtown Boston. The location is perfect, right across from the Boston Public Garden and the atmosphere is both charming and serene. I chose to sit in their full outdoor seating area, which was peaceful, beautifully decorated with flowers, and shaded by large umbrellas, perfect for a warm day. The restaurant also offers a cozy indoor-outdoor section that gives you the comfort of indoor seating with the breeze and vibe of being outside, such a nice touch if you're looking for shade and a more relaxed feel. Inside, there's also a downstairs bar and a private dining room upstairs for more intimate gatherings. For food, I had the chopped salad with shrimp and the mushroom flatbread; both were absolutely delicious, fresh, and came out quickly. The service was attentive and kind, and the entire experience felt effortless and elevated. Excellent service, food and ambiance. It was a perfect evening. Went with a group of colleagues after a long conference day and could not have had a better experience! We started with the Oysters Mignonette and Fois Gras. I had a 'Oui Chef' cocktail that was simply delightful. We also ordered a truffle flat bread that was reported to be amazing, too. For main courses we ordered the Bouillabaisse, a filet and a steak frites. All were simply lovely! We were so full but ordered dessert anyway; the chocolate soufflé and Creme Brûlée which were both amazing, but we could not finish them. The service was impeccable too. read more

This was one of the top spots that I was hoping to try out for Dine Out Boston! I came here on a weekday evening with a friend and we were able to be seated right away despite not having a reservation. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and there actually appeared to be two floors. The seats along the walls looked super comfy with plenty of pillows strewn about and the vibes were super classy and aesthetic, literally perfect for a fancy date night! While I was set on ordering from the fixed price menu, my friend ended up ordering from the regular dinner menu, which also looked super good. I have to give a huge shoutout to our server Nick, who was very attentive, kind, and made sure that all my questions were answered properly, as someone who has celiac with strict dietary restrictions. My friend ended up ordering a charcuterie selection (which looked absolutely amazing) and a classic burger that came with a special black truffle sauce and fries. From the Dine Out menu, I ended up getting the: - beef tartar for the appetizer - the dish was presented so beautifully and while this isn't something that I would normally go for, I thought it was one of the few opportunities that I'd actually be able to try wagyu tartar and it definitely didn't disappoint! - seared scallops for the entree - this was the standout dish of the night! the scallops were truly perfectly cooked, the sweet potato puree on the bottom was so smooth, and honestly I could've licked the plate it was *delicious* and possibly even one of the best entrees I've ever had! - vanilla creme brulee for dessert - you can never go wrong with ordering creme brulee from a French restaurant lol...though our server also did give a plug about the chocolate ganache dessert - one of the other options on the Dine Out menu. Overall, service was great - they were constantly checking on our water. I only wish they had been able to offer some gluten-free bread at the beginning. My friend and I stayed until a little past 9 chatting away and never felt rushed. I would highly, highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who's looking for a more upscale restaurant with wonderful food and service! I'll definitely be back to treat myself :) read more
